HELP!!!!

i tried teaching my friend to install 1.5 manually from my other thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3847374#post3847374)
and she screwed up because the last step she didnt push home+back and instead turned the phone off by pushing and holding the power button and turned it back on and it didnt install because she didnt do it the right way and we tried it again by deleting it from the sd card then re-transfer it still didnt work so if anyone has any ideas on what to do then please tell me.
p.s. im sorry if this was said some where else cause i didnt search it because i wasnt exactly sure what to say in the search.
oh and also you can gtalk me - [email protected]
did you check the build number in her phone? if the build is correct(latest) then the only thing that didn't complete is the radio, upgrade that manually or downgrade to another stock build and re-upgrade correctly
yea i told her to look at that it still said 1.1

After manual update: stuck on G1 screen after update file – help!

Hi guys
So after unsuccessfully trying to root my G1, I changed my mind on the mastter and decided to keep it stock OS. I managed to get back to Android 1.0.
I’ve put a formatted and FAT32 SD card in the phone, with RC8 (UK phone) on it named update.zip (file ext hidden in windows).
I boot up the phone holding home key, ALT L then ALT S. It boots successfully saying things like ‘package verified’ etc until it says ‘install complete’. Then it says ‘press home+back to reboot your phone. When I do that it says ‘writing radio image’ then reboots. When it turns back on it has a picture of a sim card and an arrow or a phone and a box then reboots again. And here lies the problem: it never leaves the G1 screen (the first screen displayed when powering on the device. I’m able to power into recovery mode and fastboot mode, and from fastboot mode I can recover the phone by flashing to 1.0 via DREAIMG.NBH, but I really want to be running 1.6.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks
What phone are you using...a UK G1 or a US G1, as your trying to flash a UK rom...(rc8) have you tried flashing RC29? After flashing to android 1.0 it will prompt you to update your phone to 1.6 after that.

That's because you didn't flash your SPL yet.. I'll edit this post with the link to it. Oh and before I do, which rom are you trying to flash?

That sounds promising I'm trying to flash UK 1.5 RC8. So I have to install this SPL first and then install the software? I'm correct in jumping straight from 1.0 to 1.5 right?

Do I need to flash this SPL? The bottom one on this page http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list?q=label:SPL
it's called G1originalBootloadernocheck.zip or something similar
I wouldn't trust that, but I don't know just hold on. Wait a minute, so you flashed the RC8 rom? Are you sure, how long did you wait at the T-mobile G1 screen for? Try flashing RC8 again and let the phone do it's thing. Wait a max of 10 minutes for the phone to load.

I'm hoping that you're rooted at 1.0.. And nono, you flash radio first, then SPL THEN the rom.

... sounds like he wants to flash.
-EDIT-
Why would he want to go back to stock if he flashed 1.0? Isn't that the first thing you do when you root?
After you flash DREAIMG.nbh, give the phone a few days and it will update over the air.

He said he changed his mind because he tried to root but he failed so he's trying to go back to stock OS.

Oh my bad. My lack of attention span prevented me from reading that but to go back to the stock, do what cloverdale said. Reflash your G1 with the RC8 and WAIT for the update. There's no need to do it manually.
Thanks guys! Yes the root looked like it was about to brick my phone so I abandoned it and was feeling overwhelming relieved to even get normal OS back on my phone. So I should just wait for the over the air update (in the UK) and it will automatically bring it up to 1.6 again? Sorry for the late reply, my internet has only just started working, and itll be off again soon!
Why not do it manually btw guys?
Yeah you can just do what cloverdale said, or you can go to the settings(pick it by pressing menu on the phone) and scoll all the way to the bottom to "about phone" I believe there will be an "upgrade" option but I'm not quite sure . You can do it manually by dling the upgrade off the internet somewhere but it's probably better(on the safe side) to just download it from your phone.

Yes, just give it some time and it will update to 1.6 (or maybe 2.0/2.1). I would suggest waiting of the OTA update and not doing it manually simply because I what I read about your reactions to rooting. I am not trying to be mean when I say this, but the stress it seemed to cause from starting the rooting process may be recreated through a manual flash. Take life easy, relax, and it will update very soon.
OK, no offence taken. I didnt know 2.0 was out for the G1 yet..
I think my rooting went wrong because I didnt flash a radio image or SPL prior to the software - I tried to complete it with limited net access and therefore information, and a non working phone and non working internet is too much of a hinderance as i need these things every day.
I mainly wanted to root it to make the higher end 3d games run smoother via overclocking and use it as a wifi point so i could access the net properly again whilst BT stop ****ing around.

g1 help, cant get past triangle screen.

Ok so i got this g1 for free. I dont have t-mobile im on att. Im also nostranger to HTC ive been using the Diamond and TYTAN 2 for years now!
So when i first turned the phone on it would boot into android and tell me i needed a t-mobile sim. Well my plan was to get an unlock code and use the phone with ATT. Anyways for some reason i turned the phone on and and it started booting to the triangle screen... Id treid alt l then wiped the phone and reverted back to stock settings but it still boots to the triangle screen. I have no idea why the phone just started doing this. I also have no idea the history of the phone if its ever been rooted or anything. I need to get this phone working again so i can attempt to unlock it.
I tried to follow the unroot article to get back to stock but when i put the spl on an sd card named update.zip it wouldnt install it says no signiture found verification failed. I also downloaded rc29 and renamed it to update tried to install but that failed with a diffrent error.
Im not sure why im going straight to the triangle screen like i said i never screwed with the phone at all i just turned it on and it started doing that. Im turning the phone on by taping the end call button.
I know you said you tried to follow the steps to root the phone but it sounds like you didn't do it the correct way.
If you have the RC29.zip you need to unzip it and move the Dream.nbh file over to the root of your SD card. Then press and hold the camera button while powering on the phone. It will go to a gray screen where it SHOULD say "Press power to install update" you do that....DO NO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS! and then once that is done you should be back to the very bare bones stock G1. Problem is you need to do more than that to get Root access, and the rest of the steps would require being signed in. There should be a thread on here somewhere about signing in w/o a SIM card which you need to search for and follow.
here is the best root guide if you haven't found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
ya i havent tried the above article yetl i tried to unroot the phone, not root it. Becuase it saidit would revert back to stock settings and im not sure wether the phone has been rooted.
.
I will work through this a little bit later but like i said the phone goes straight to the triangle exclamation point screen where you press alt l or whatever alt combo you want. So there is no way i can tell if its below rc30... Also screwing around earlier i held down the camera button and tapped end call it still went to the same screen with the triangle. Maybe that becuase theres no spl installed? Like i said this phone was working fine and then it just stoped booting into android and started going into this recovery mode or whatever it is, so im not even sure if rooting is what i need to do. As of right now i jst want it to boot up again and tell me no sim card found so i can work from there.
The triangle screen is stock RECOVERY.
You have set the boot recovery flag.
Try pressing home-back when you're in there.

varifying update package.....
E:No signiture (5 files)
E:Varification failed
Instalation aborted
im at a loss now. any ideas???
What recovery are you using? the alt L thing makes me think you are still using stock.
If you are using RA you don't need to rename it to update.
im using recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img
ihave just tried to use the one u are using but flashrec wouldnt see it, imreally at a loss now.
i just tried to install android stoc 1.0, so that i could start again but that to wouldnt install. so it looks like i may be stuck with 1.5 for now atleast.
edit- it wernt the one u have it was the recovery-RA-dream-v1.6.2.img i tried second
mate u have Uk model?right
just intall flashrec and 1.6.2 recovery image
start flashrec / in the box type something like
/sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.6.2.img
then flash it dont interpt then process and u got root ...
note : put img file in the root(main) of ur sd card
thanks for your help jamb, but i seem to have damaed the boot loader somewhere on my rooting journey ,
i think i know where i done it as after post one, and before post two, i did (i think) get root and managed to flash superCSDIv14, (i got the custom spash with the android bot peeking from behind the A) but after the splash the phone just went black.
when i got your first post i decided to follow that post, i managed to flask android 1.0, then update to 1.5 then from that point i couldnt flash nothing, i even tried to flash back to 1.0 at one point.
last night i went to bed thinking that id be stuck with 1.5, but when i woke, i made the QTA upgrade msg on my phone so i ran it and now am back to where i started 1.6 (which is good cos google nav was released yesrerday)
as the OTA update worked all must not be broken so i decided to start again and tried to flash 1.0, it just faid so. my friend i am giving up, thank you for your time.
stephen.
its been two days now since i gave up on my root of the G1 and am starting to get the craving to start tinker with t againg, i dont want it to beat me.
can anyone outthere shed anylight on my plight. also give me some pointers.

[Q] Need assistance rooting 2.1 update 1 Hero200 build: 2.27.651.6

So xda, here's the situation.
I'm on stock 2.1 update 1, build number 2.27.651.6. I know you can't root that, which is why I downloaded the RUU that installs 2.27.651.5 back on my phone. Right now, I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 under BootCamp. Whenever I run the RUU, plug my phone in, and start it up, it just hangs on that "Verifying information on your Android phone, please wait..." gray box screen the entire time, I see no progress. I just wiped my phone completely hoping it will show up as a new device now, and I also removed all the device drivers installed. I'm about to try the RUU and plugging in the phone fresh one last time, but I need your take on what the problem is. The phone is showing up fine under devices.
Basically, when running this RUU, I have the phone on charge only, on, screen timeout off, and just sitting there plugged in. Once I get this RUU to run and install the new firmware, I'm golden. I just need someone to identify the problem of why it's not getting past the verifying info on my android phone.
Help would be EXTREMELY appreciated, to the point where I'd be willing to pay something like $5 via PayPal for your time if you solve the issue.
Thanks XDA, I'm fully confident if somebody here wants to do this they could solve it in a matter of minutes, and hopefully someone will be as kind to help me out here.
You might try booting into fastboot and trying to run the RUU.
Fastboot: while holding the volume up button press the power button.
Okay, I did that, it says FASTBOOT USB in a red box, do I just leave it now and run the RUU? Or do I need to select any options?
Can you 'adb devices' on the Win7 machine?
if you can, just let it set there - mine took at least 15 minutes to verify or error.
If it errors don'u unplug or mess with the phone, let it sit there. Then restart the RUU and it should work the second time.
I can in fact abd on here, the process works up to the point where I need superuser and it doesn't appear as it's .6 build. I'm going to try running it in FASTBOOT and see what goes on, I just wish something on the phone changed so I knew it was working.
Trashing the RUU, redownloading, and fastboot all solved the problem. Now, it's currently running the RUU. In a second when the RUU finishes I will post the results and retry the adb process, and let you all know. For now, what's the best official 2.1 ROM? I know Regaw has one, and I'm also wondering how his toolbox works.
Alright here's the deal, it's been stuck in the RUU on "Rebooting Android Phone" for more than 10 minutes now, however the bar is still animated and its still working. It just won't reboot for whatever reason. On the phone is htc with a full green bar underneath.
Same problem on my Hero with 2.1-update1 , build number 3.32.405.1CL191507 relase-keys.
Is any way to get this rooted ?

Worked on my new Hero just fine. You can root it,then unroot it if you need to have any warrenty work done on it.You do have to do all the back ups you normally do if you switch to another rom though.
I'm not running any custom roms yet cause I haven't decided on which one to use,but my Sprint CDMA hero rooted easily with this method. Now if the developers will just come out with a 1 click method of installing one of their customs roms.....One can only wish
Mac
Yup, one click root works perfect on .6 builds.... done 2 myself
Thanks "Mac11700" It works
