Hi,
I am having major Force Close issues on multiple applications. I've posted my logcat here: http://pastebin.com/m51550315
I've tried doing a system wipe, installing the Android 1.6 Recovery image, installing the latest cyanogenmod MOD, wiping Dalvik cache and running fix_permissions but I get the same problems. When I follow these steps I am missing all of the Google apps and when I try to install them I get error messages saying that they can't be installed.
Is there anywhere else besides Dalvik cache that retains settings that will throw my phone off? It seems like even after doing the system wipe and Dalvik-cache clear there is something causing problems.
I have a Rogers G1 but followed Haykuro's root guide to change my radio image so that I don't need a custom kernel.
what exactly is the dalvik cache

A place where the system writes things about your apps. Every app you've ever had installed gets it's own little file in the dalvik-cache, wiping the dalvik-cache tends to fix issues with apps.
But wiping my Dalvik cache didn't solve the problem which is why I want to know if there is another cache that needs to be cleared or a better way to wipe previous data.
You could try to wipe the /data/data/

Iam in no way a dev or mildly knowledgeable about these things really, So DO NOT CARRY THIS OUT, IT IS MEANT TO POSSIBLY POINT OUT SOMETHING (Possibly) TO OTHERS WHO ARE MORE SAVVY............
Is signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721 Needed?
I'll Wait for someone else to say Yay or Nay, I suggest you do too

Android 1.6 Recovery image is another name for signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721

Sweet! Knew someone would know better then me!
Back under my rock I go...
I tried deleting /data/data, /data/dalvik-cache, reinstalling the 1.6 recovery, the latest Cyanogen ROM and then running fix_permissions but I'm still getting errors. I even get an error trying to open settings: "Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Is there anything else I should try clearing?
With everything you try, your ext partition is untouched. There is something left in there messing you up. Reformat your sd card. Then flash the HTC recovery, then Cyanogen, and you should be set.
BACKUP anything you want to keep on the sdcard first.
How do I know if my sd card has an ext partition? I haven't used apps2sd. When I get home from work I'm going to try a new sd card.
I tried a new sd card but that didn't have any effect. I cleared my dalvik cache and wiped /data/data and then updated my Cyanongenmod from 4.2.11.1 to 4.2.12.2 and the Force Close problems were solved.
I have some new problems now:
When I try to install apps I get the message "(application name) could not be installed on this phone"
I can't receive calls
My screen doesn't lock when I press the End Call button
My Home button doesn't return me to the Home screen
I'm guessing there is still something stored during updates. Any ideas?

I think you can probably fix this by flashing the HTC recovery image the CM 4.2.12.2 (probably do not need to wipe, but it would not hurt).

I've tried that and it didn't help. I've tried wiping, not wiping, using the defanged image, using the HTC recovery and I'm always missing the google apps.
Hello eveyone!
I was updating my apps on the phone and during the process, my phone crashes and reboots. This happened while trying to install the CPU Tuner and ever since all my apps that are on the SD won't load or work. They don't even appear in the app drawer. I checked the in the Applications list from the Settings menu and it shows that they visible but they are not installed. Market does not recognize them as installed either. I'd hate to have to start from scratch re-flashing the rom and re-installing apps.
I've tried to:
*wipe cache
*wipe dalvik-cache
*wipe data/factory reset
*fix mismatched apk uid
(not in this order tho)
...without success. I hope someone can help! Currently running CM6 RC3
Reported earlier by someone else, and he had to reinstall them all. The apps don't mount correctly, but the reason for them not to mount isn't clear.
Thanks for you response. Unfortunately I tried reinstalling those apps but they won't install. Same thing happens when I update apps that were installed on the phone, not the sd card, they get stuck on the installation part. Sad to say I had over 200+ apps
I suppose re-flashing the rom is my only option for now...unless someone has a solution.
Once again thanks.
My best bud was complaining about how slow his stock SGS was so I decided to help as I've fixed about 20 phones now without any issues! Until now!
Problem
Lost Contacts which were stored to phone memory
Lost memos
Almost all programs are Force Closing
History
Installed clockwork recovery as per Cyanogen Wiki page (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide)
Then using the new SpeedMod kernel by Hardcore, I rooted the phone and also converted the file system to EXT4 to ensure the lagfix worked nicely
The Recovery automaticalled generated a Nandroid back-up before the file system conversion took place.
When phone started, a lot of programs Force Closed, so we ran a Fix Permissions and this solved most problems. However, a few days have passed and now the phone is constantly FC. The loss of contacts and memo's was annoying but he wasn't too bothered as had various back-ups
So I tried a Nandroid restore which works apart from system.img which it cannot find.
I wonder if the system.img backup doesn't work since the file system was changed to EXT4? Do you think if I push the nandroid backup using ADB, it will successfully restore the phone with contacts and memo's too?
That's why I never touch someone else's phone. Always something goes wrong that never gone on my phone.
Sounds like you need to do...
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
...in clockworkmod to make a clean install.
If your friend didn't set up a syncronisation in "Accounts and sync" between google and the phone, AFAIK you cannot revert back contacts and memos
After turning the file system to EXT4, it removes backups.Because its not a nandroid backup. Just backing up your files before the partition formatting. So, no luck.
I'm not a android expert, so I might be wrong about it.
Greetings,
All of the sudden, I keep getting errors like this when attempting to install apps. Sideloading helps to migrate some of the problems, after trying much of the what that was recommended to fix this issue, as the following - none worked.
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
uninstall market updates
clear market cache and data
Please advise.
On well...realised what caused the problem. Google utilise the cache partition for installing large app for some reason. But because I resized the partition table for ICS, this caused the problem.
Here's the fix:
http://jimmod.com/blog/2011/10/andr...ng-there-is-insufficient-space-on-the-device/
splhexeditor is simple way to resize partition if you have blackrose installed
normally there is no app issue unless you are on MIUI
glad you got it anyway
Could use some input...
I have lost push notifications for words with friends after clean flashing AOSiP rc7 and restoring apps using titanium. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get them back... I've done it all, clear cache, clear data, uninstalled, reinstall, wipe cache /dalvik reboot... You name it.
This isn't likely to be rom specific, as this happened once before (I usually just download from the play store after a clean install but tried to cut corners). Also, it seems to persist across clean installs. The only way that I've found so far is to format and reflash stock first. So I think that it's some token file stored somewhere on internal storage that is messing this up... Any ideas?
