Every time I press the market application it takes me to terms and conditions. Its not a huge hassle i just accept them over and over again. Anyone else?

thanks for the reply. Yes i actually do that with a lot of apps pretty regularly.
I also just pressed Maps and it went through the initial page like its the first time to press it ever or after an update. It doesnt happen every time with this app but sometimes. Again its not a big problem just kind of curious...Im going to keep track of all of the apps this happens with, maybe its native apps only, not that that would necessarily mean anything to me. Oh well, i forgot to mention i have the test froyo so in all probability its just a temporary issue until the official 2.2 is released.
I'm alos using Froyo and i don't have this issiue. do you maybe have a app that clears everything, like cache?
What i noticed in Froyo you can clear everything, if you do this the app acts like a fresh start. I had this with browser, lost all my bookmarks. Luckily i had a backup with titanium.
I don't have an app like that afaik but it sounds like it could be the cause so I'm going to go ahead and check my apps again. Thanks
If you are running an app like Advanced Task Killer or any other task killer app, you need to make sure Maps and Market are on the exclude list. From what it sounds like, you have it set to kill apps whenever you turn the screen off. So when you click on Market, it asks you to accept. Try this. Go into Market. Hit Accept. Click the home button, then click back on market. Does it prompt again?

So i tried what you said and when i immediately reentered the market i didnt get the terms and conditions page. Ive accessed the market 4 times today and ive had to accept terms twice.
However i stopped using a task killer a month or two ago. Could it be some app interfering?
Also, I have one nexus one that i use just to charge a battery so i exchange batteries usually at least once each day, i wonder if that could reset it? Except Maps has worked fine all day and i have to go through the initial info screen in that app every now and again. strange...
One last thing. When i use Flikie HD wallpapers, about evry third time i use it it freezes my phone and i have to pull the battery, but im not exactly sure when i installed that app and i believe the market/maos and other apps issue began prior to installing it, but possibly not. A lot of factors in play here

Is there any tmobile customer who actually likes this new market layout? Tmobile has replaced the "downloads" button with a "tmobile recommended apps" button. Not only is that self-righteous and gay, but all the apps there seem completely random besides the tmobile apps. Wtf.
Is there a way to push a non-tmobile version of market? Im not sure, but i dont think this is the new version 1.71. Mine still shows as 1.66. If anyone has 1.71 please post it here. Id rather have an updated market app than this gay ass layout change. Thanks.
I have v1.66 as well, and no I do not like the market.
I have never liked the market.
Category layouts are dumb.
People search the market in 3 ways.
They either know exactly what they want... Search Program Name
They know the type of thing they want... Search "program does this.."
Or they go window shopping. Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll...etc
The F*ing scrolling is driving me crazy! By scrolling through a huge list, I never remember where I was, and I have to constantly start over.
I want to be able to see what apps were uploaded each day. That way I can search a given day and know that there are no apps that I like for that time period.
Hmm what did the Dev's throw out yesterday....Oh cool! aw crap. Neat!
I stopped looking at their "recommendations" a long time ago.
I don't care what they think I might want. I sure as hell don't want My Account which has been listed as a #1 app since it came out.
For more experienced users..The F*ing program doesn't do anything that logging into your account, or using one of 20 other programs doesn't already do. Like I need ANOTHER battery monitor!
I just found a market app that might be better. Called My Market by Chris Hager- allows multiple filters, recommendations based on users comments, and you can bookmark items. Let you know how it goes.
OK this is one of those programs that you find once in a while that are the "OMG Why isn't this standard." type of thing.
It does have a little problem staying connected to the market server when I am using it, but....
I can scroll through all the apps in the market, bookmarking any apps that look interesting, and "Removing" ones that are not. (removing just hides them in a folder called "Removed")
I can mark an app as "recommended", not star'd like the market, but just a flag saying that I liked the program.
I can also email the market link for an app to someone from inside the program.
You do have to open the market to DL though which is kinda annoying, but the fact I can sort through stuff makes it totally worth it.
Yea i gotta say mymarket is pretty cool. Only thing that bugs me is that it looks like the old market from 1.1. Thanks for the suggestion.
So 1.71 is the market from 2.0?
I also noticed that apps I have installed originally from the market and later uninstalled due to a wipe or whatever. Then reinstalled from SdCard are now showing up as updates available. Would of been ok, however I have two apps I simply do not want to update and its annoying the heck out of me because I now have to look at them everytime I goto the market.
How did this Market update happen? I don't remember updating it or was it forced or a forced layout change or something?
Looks like you can go into Settings > Manage Applications > Market
Uninstall Market upgrade. Of course how long before that comes back.
I think this is the market you guys are talking about.
http://www.mymarket.cc/
I noticed in the /data/data/ folder there is two listings for the market. One being an upgrade and one being the regular.

Apparently it takes less than a day to come back. I uninstalled the T-market yesterday morning before work and it was back before the end of my work day. This kind of sucks. All their "update" did was make me have to use the physical menu button to check my downloads for updates. More time wasted and more wear on my menu button. Thanks T-Mobile.
I went into /system/apps and deleted the vending updater program. Also uninstalled the "update" to the market. Not having any trouble now. Was having a ton of trouble with stuff not install after downloading. The update hasn't come back yet either, so so far so good.
After my uninstall I haven't seen it come back as of yet.
Yeah the market app is kinda screwy lately. Literally last night before I went to sleep I was using it to download something.
I wake up today in the morning and it's completely gone I have never had that happen before.
Lets see if it comes back on its own through out the day hehe.
Honestly I really hope it's my rom doing something screwy though cause I would hate knowing that they can take off an app off my phone when ever they want just like that. WTF you know.

How did you uninstall the update? I just went to settings>applications>manage applications>Market--uninstall updates. I may try Gilliland12's method but I don't know what else that method may effect.
sxfx:
Many people seem to be having problems with the market on Cyanogen's latest. I always wipe and do a full install and I don't use a2sd, compcache or swap and I've had few to no problems with his ROM's (just some random reboots on one of the older versions).

Yeah Iv been using Cyan for as long as I can remember. I do use a2sd, and some swap nothing major.
But I don't seem to have 99% of the problems everyone else is having heh.
Just a glitch here or there but nothing I cant really figure out.
This market thing really just happened recently when tmo started screwing with it. I guess we will see what happens in the next few days .
Supposedly there is a really nice updated coming from Cyan sometime soon. ..

Same issue with Meridian Pro player, the widget would make it crash.
Deleting the widget, clearing application data, then re-adding the widget fix it.
Note that clearing the application data makes it forget your unlock code for the pro version. Make sure you have a copy of your code before clearing the data.

Anyone have the Trillian 1.0.145? (final beta before it went to market)

Just close the Market and then re-open and you're back at the new one. You may need to kill Market in app management, or just wait a couple of minutes to go back in.
I'm having the umts hsdpa switch issue. It switches back and forth every few seconds, and I have strong signal. Anyone seeing this?
Ever since the gingerbread update and new Google maps version, my nexus one "gps" icon in the notification bar has been popping up throughout the day. So I began checking under "running services" and now Google Maps is constantly running, I am 100% positive this was not the case before because I checked it repeatedly throughout the day while monitoring battery life like an OCD patient.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?
try signing out Google Latitude and see if the problem persist.
I've noticed it since they updated to Maps 5.1. Its definitely related to Latitude. If signing out doesn't solve your issue, I have an apk for Maps 5.0 that you can use. I rolled back when 5.1 first came out. I'm gonna see how much 5.2 caused maps to stay running.
How do I sign out of latitude? I have never used this service.
If you have never used this service, then you don't need to sign out. Under Google Maps option do you see "Latitude" or "Join Latitude"? If it is the latter, then you don't have to sign out anything. If you see "Latitude", click that and go to your Latitude privacy settings to sign out.

Check again, it's a GB feature.
Settings>Applications>Developement>Stop app via long press
Anyhow I always use back button to exit out of any "GPS" related applications
That option is NOT in my applications>development folder either, check your info.
That said, what I am looking for is a way to disable latitude/google maps from constantly restarting itself in the background and staying on and now using 2-5% of my battery everyday even though I am not using the program. I know how to kill it under running services but it always restarts now.

That 'Stop app via long press' is actually a CM feature, not Gingerbread. It was introduced with CM6, which predates GB.

I figured as much. It seems enabling that could cause problems. How well does it play with apps like Browser which have their own action defined for long press on back?
My bad, though it was a GB feature since it was not under CM settings

I have the same issue - never used Latitude, Long-press to kill Maps and still when I go into Applications/Manage Applications/Running - Maps is still there!? Even tho it doesn't appear in my Advanced Task Killer app?
There should be a way to exit this app properly?! I use it from time to time and going deep into menus is no good.
Froyo with CM6 here...
bump for an old thread, same issue with my gsm RAZR running 2.3.5 stock. i have signed out of latitude, it always restarts!
Hi,
I notice that even if I kill applications "Maps" and "Sms" they keep showing in the list. I guess they are restarted by something. I have my GPS turned on but surely that should not start Maps? And I'm using Handsent for my messaging - not Sms.
Any advices?

Lately I've noticed a lot of apps myself that never used to start by themselves doing so now. Even after shutting them down in settings they seem to start up again. The only way I've found around this so far is to clear cache and data. Clearing data is a bit of a pain because it means entering user names and passwords again everytime you wanna use the app. If there is a better solution I'd also be interested to know. As far as I know from my own experience none of the app killing apps out there really work and I've tried a good few.

No that I'm seeing "Maps" in the application list without starting it is a new experience. And surely a navigation application is not a system app...

Got it!
My GPS was lit (as it should be), and if the "Maps" application is set to automatically register my locations it will fire Maps when the GPS is lit. Disable the GPS or disable the automatics in Maps and it all works
Thanks.

Do Market notifications work for anyone? Or is it a known Android issue? Never worked for me and I'm on wifi/cell towers about 50/50.
Does it work in 2.3? I've never seen it work on 2.1 or 2.2. I've only seen it pop up in the notification area when manually checking/downloading an update. (thanks Google! -eye roll-)
Rarely it will pop up for me when I open the market and don't go to my apps. But almost every time its popped up for me was because I went to my apps.
I was really hoping Androids implementation of this would be better than iOS. Especially when froyo let you update all or enable auto update. In reality I think iOS is better (in this one tiny area), because if you open the app store you instantly see updates are available. But in android if you don't go to my apps sometimes it will take several minutes of browsing the market before you are notified.
Sent from my Captivate running GR-12
I rarely get any Market notifications unless I'm at My Apps in the Market app and let it sit there for a while. It'd be pretty nice if I got notified to update my apps before I go into the Market though, I agree.

Thats the thing....they way the market was sold....so to speak....is that you would get a notification, whenever any app you have installed has an update. Seems most everyone gets that notification after they manually check. Thats what happens with me.
Could it be because you're shutting down the market app? I know that's what happens with all my other apps that have notifications. You only receive them if you don't "close" the app, but instead leave it running in the background.

That can't be it because Android judges on it's own what should be shut down based on the memory it needs I think. In other words, I never closed it.
These guys found a way to kick start it a while back, but I can't find the files to do the same for us.

I think Demonic240's referring to the difference between exiting any app (i.e. Market) using the back button until reaching Home versus 1 clicking away to home or another app. The difference is measurable in Task Manager. Method two: Market still runs. Method one: Market closed.

Gotcha. Regardless, I don't see any point in having update Notifications if it requires you to keep the Market app running constantly. I assumed Google had it connected to one of the basic Android services that always run in the background.
In the link in my last post, they talk about a value in a settings.db that triggers a CheckinService. Stuff that I can't find on our phones.
It's an interesting question. I got notifications regularly in 2.1 and can't recall when I got one in 2.2. I kept background data enabled under both.
Checking Manage Applications, Market Updater 1.0 only shows up when viewing All, and appears to be a dead service even when Market is running. I never checked it under 2.1 because it appeared to work.
Mine has never worked...only when I open the market does it decide to tell me I have a update!
