[KERNEL] CoburnKernel v7.1-experimental - Click Android Development

This kernel is a joint effort between ralle.gade and myself to make a kernel that really performs as expected.
Introducing CoburnKernel v7 Series. Originally the heart and soul of AzusaROM, I'm releasing the kernel in case anyone wants to make a custom ROM that will rocket. On AzusaROM 1.03, this kernel loaded the Android home/desktop within 3 "HTC" logo shine cycles. It boots within a minute, depending on your ROM configuration.
You can download it from my Coburn's Domain Server in the Android Project File Browser located here. Login with the user "android", and password "android" and look in the ckernel7series directory. There is nothing private on the server and you are restricted in what you can do - no uploading, i.e. look but you can't touch. Your IP Address is logged by using the File Browser, and if you abuse the server I will ban your IP. Do not attempt to gain access in areas that you shouldn't be in.
Look at the system/modules folder for what CoburnKernel includes. EXT4 is used as EXT2 and EXT3 support, and ralle.gade has done countless graveyard shifts to clean out rubbish that HTC left behind and squish bugs. The kernel is based on 2.6.29 with countless tweaks and mods done by ralle.gade.
I hope you can make use of CoburnKernel! Let's see some ROMs that fly like the wind!

Nice!!! Thank you, will try it out right now!!
What did u change on the Kernel? is it OC'ed?

It's just hacked for optimum performance and has a lot of bloat removed. It has like NFS support and all sorts of cool stuff that ralle.gade complied in.

can you please enable oc ?

Not that I don't appreciate people spending their own free time improving the speed of the tattoo, but why would you spend time removing all the htc bloat only to add more (nfs support? why? to connect to nfs shares with your phone?!).

By bloat, I mean, leftovers from HTC's kernel cooking. There was a HTC bug that could cause mismatches between the kernel modules, causing Android to reboot that ralle.gade fixed. The NFS Support is in a form of a .ko file... Removing that wouldn't hurt, I guess.

is there anyone that would like to have a rebase of my kernel?
if yes i can make some new + old options like:
compiled with gcc 4.4.1
more compiler tweaks
android tether buillt directly in
maybe some ram could be freed
and lets not forget OC
and a ton of other stuff
then i would make a version with alot of addons, one with less addons and a super simple and fast one
would that something or?

Nice!!! I would tell my pals (still with tattoos) that you are making an OC Kernel! Would be nice if you would cook then

[Kernel] ikxdf's kernels (original HTC 2.6.29 stable and 2.6.35.4 for tests)

Hi guys,
I stopped a while to build rom for tatoo but I continued to follow the thread.
For fun I have compiled the latest stable kernel ... if anyone cares to test it I'll put the link here.
I take this opportunity to insert a link to my kernel sources generated using HTC.
I think it's correct to use this kernel for the development of libraries on the camera and radio, as it turns out to be the only kernel you know works.
Compiling the latest kernel I have seen many great features ... but totally missing some drivers, such as those in radio ...
I do not understand this anxiety developers to have a custom kernel and the most updated ... But I think it is appropriate to start building a secure kernel. When the camera and the radio works then you can create as many kernels you want ... but not before.
This is my thought ... meanwhile I'll use this post to whoever wants to download the kernel and HTC for those who want to test my kernel 2.6.35.4.
Kernel_2.6.29_HTC
contain for shure all drivers for FMRadio, camera,bt ecc and all htc patches (if presents). this kernel il generated from HTC kernel source downloaded from htc site.
Features added: ext3 and ext4 partitions support
Kernel_2.6.35.4_v1NOT WORKING
Is a testing kernel. it is generated compiling the last stable source released on kernel.org
Kernel_2.6.35.4_v2
- FMRadio diriver inculded
- voltage and current regulator support
- Led drivers
- ext3 ext4
nice job, my friend.

Although I´m no dev, this is actually very sensible. I´d rather had a slightly outdated but FULLY functional kernel, than the most up-to-date but crippled one...

I've been away from the Tattoo scene since we got root on this little device.
I'm currently interested in getting psfreedom to run on Tattoo but it seems that the stock HTC kernel is crippled (missing usb stuff). If your kernel is at least bootable, this would be a nice place to start

if u are talking about 2.6.35.4 version you have to try if it can boot because i haven't a tattoo for test it.
I have sell my tattoo after 2 week but all great users of this thread have always made a great testing job for me and for my rom.
If anyone want test if this kernel is booting or not i will contine to develope it.
If it doesn't boot and adb will start i need a logcat.
if u are talking of the original htc kernel 2.6.29 version it is already working on my rom (Pancake) .
i will release sonn the wlan.ko module for 2.1 and for 2.2 roms for the 2 versions of kernel.
Hi, ikxdf!
I'm willing to try your kernel. I am quite an experienced linux user of desktop and server but I'm quite new regarding ROM flashing. But still, from what I gather I have to flash your kernel archive in the boot sector, right?
I have AmonRA's recovery installed and tested. And I'm eager to try cooked stuff as I've just gotten my Tattoo out of service today after 3 weeks!!! I was so dissapointed in having my old Nokia again.

[MOD] BlaY0's kernel 2.6.29 with UTF-8 NLS support + additional modules

Hi,
I decided to post here two kernel updates I mainly use or have used on my Legend. They are nothing special (not overclocked), with several additions and changes, just something I want to share with the Legend scene. They corespond to two different (stock) extraversions:
2.6.29-5f084974
Based on stock HTC kernel version 13be9c9c available from their Developer Center. The kernel is perflocked by default (123-246 MHz screen OFF , 246-600 MHz screen ON, 123-600 MHz scaling for ondemand governor). Modules (drivers) included:
aufs.ko (overlay file system driver)
cifs.ko (CIFS file system driver)
cpufreq_conservative.ko (conservative scaling governor)
cpufreq_interactive.ko (interactive scaling governor)
cpufreq_powersave.ko (powersave scaling governor)
lzo_compress.ko (lzo compressor)
lzo_decompress.ko (lzo decompressor)
perflock_disable.ko (forcibly disables perflock)
ramzswap.ko (Compcache driver)
sdio.ko (TI SDIO driver)
squashfs.ko (SQUASHFS 4 file system driver)
tiwlan_drv.ko (TI Wlan driver)
tun.ko (TUN/TAP driver)
ext4.ko (ext4 file system driver)
jbd2.ko (ext4 dependency)
lockd.ko (NFS)
nfs.ko (NFS)
sunrpc.ko (NFS)
2.6.29-8d705e0d
Based on CM's 2.6.29.6 GIT with some additions from Alex's GIT. Specs are the same as for above version.
UTF-8
As an option, I also prepared two kernels same as above but with UTF-8 NLS support set as default.
Installation
Just flash the update via ClockworkMod... it will run over your previous kernel and modules.
Note
These kernels are ment for those using stock based ROMs (like chefs using stock ROMs as a base) and are missing support for things mentioned above (nfs, aufs, cifs, tun, interactive governor...). Those using CM based ROMs don't need any of these... CM already has kernel with all support mentioned above.
Warning!!!
Please read the whole post before you download (it's really not so long)! Do not apply these updates if you don't know what they actually do!

Build 8 quite bogus, random reboots and non working TTS
have you tried with build 7?
I have similar problem with Azure Nightly 7 and Kernel 2.6.29-8d705e0d
Touch screen don't work !
Probably I should've mentioned that these kernels have been primarily ment for stock based ROMs.
I don't get it guys... I believe I mentioned in 1st post that second kernel is based on CM's so why would one ever want to us my kernel with CM... CM already has the right kernel with all the modules and statically built support for anything I mentioned above.
If you guys are trying nightlies expect problems but most important learn how to debug them. If you just write that it doesn't work, you basically did nothing to help solving the problem or improving things.
One more thing... did you guys try dumfaq's OC kernels with those CM nightlies?

With Azure Nightly 7 the phone starts correctly, I can not use the touch screen (it's impossible to navigate with my fingers )
And no I don't try dumfaq's OC kernels with cyano nightlies.
I would like to say something:
If you don't have any idea what these kernels actually change, then don't use them. There's no point in going "Duuh, BlaYo made a kernel, it must be awesome! I'll use it", when you don't know the advantages of using them. This kind of thing goes for a lot of stuff on these forums. If you don't understand what it does, or if you wouldn't know where to start with debugging errors, then either don't use it, or do research and make an informed decision on whether you actually need it.
And this goes for yez nightly users, too: nightly builds are almost never better than the stable. If you want CM, use Azure, not the nightlies. Unless of course your doing real testing, debugging and then feeding it back to CM developers.
Exactly!

Request: nls_utf8 module please.
Hello BlaY0, Thank you for you posting the kernel.
I am enjoying cifs with your 2.6.29-5f084974 on Azure, thank you!
Would you please add one more module "nls_utf8"? This helps converting filenames written in lot of languages other than English.
That can be arranged. But I have a question for you. What's keeping you from compiling it yourself? Since you know what those modules are for, I'd suspect you have done it before... at least for x86 architecture?
Thank you for your reply!
I am sorry, I've not tried it yet, only read FAQ #2 in "CifsManager" created by f3d0r.

Hi BlaY0, please hold my request.
I found your message at "[Q] Custom Kernel" thread. I will try by myself with kyosa's config. Thank you!
Check this one too...
I added nfs support to 1st one and ext4 to both. I also prepared optional kernels (same versions) with UTF-8 NLS support set as default.
My two cents:
For a few of these it doesn't really make sense to compile them as modules. tun, lzo, utf_nls don't really bloat the kernel or negatively affect performance for example.
I know... I just put them here because you can freely extract them and use them with plain (not modified) stock kernel. That's why I'm using stock kernel extraversions and not my own.
As for NLS it is already statically compiled (not as modules) in those two kernels...
Hi BlaYo, Thank you for your new kernels! "5f084974" kernel and modules worked perfectly with Azure1.01! I can now read any filenames on my file server. I am so happy!!
Ah-- Yes, last weekend I gave up. I could not make wifi active...
(Of course, I re-compiled tiwlan_drv.ko) So I gratefully accept your favor.
Hello Ali ba!! Thank you, I found "nls_utf8" was already enabled in your nightly build. (I saw in config.gz) I am sorry I've not test them yet. I will test and report about this!

Hey, the desire s needs an AOSP kernel. It runs on the same processor as this phone (MSM 8255), so maybe you can make one........
If someone can tell me how to reflash the CM7 kernel (in case wifi bug still exists), I'd be happy to test this out also.
Would I just reflash the CM7 nightly I want to run, as (afaik) the kernel is packaged with it?
Yep ... reflash the nightly and you will hav the cm kernel again

Ok, well 1.0.3 has fixed the wifi issue. This puts you 1 step ahead of CM right now, as in the latest nightly the kernel was updated and wifi was broken in the process .
It's 245am here, so I will try and write more tomorrow. Just wanted to report that wifi is working .

CM hasn't merged support for the saga (Desire S) in to their kernel yet, but the HTC source is out. I would love to add the device in with this series of kernels (and the lexicon -merge- when that source is out), but that isn't a project I can commit to without some testers or having the device.
If you're willing to test, let me know and I can work on it.

Hi Cayniarb
Count me in for Desire S kernel testing.
I would certainly be happy to test a Desire S kernel too. Using a stripped down Sense ROM right now because of the battery drain on the unofficial CM7 mod, but would love to switch to CM7 full time.
Have plenty of Linux experience and know my way around Android, ADB, fastboot / etc.
Cheers =)
Since this is quickly turning in to a Desire S thread...........
I have a built kernel for the device - but as I don't have it, I have no clue if it works. I'd rather not post a link for a test build like this publicly.
I have the code isolated in a branch away from the mainline (cm-like, really cm+ tbolt) branch for testing, but I see nothing that should make merging it in very difficult. Check it here: http://code.tiamat-dev.com/7x30/htc-kernel-msm7x30/commits/android-msm-2.6.35-saga
The best way to contact for testing is via IRC. If you're not familiar with it, I have a webportal for it setup on my site to make it easy: http://tiamat-dev.com/web-chat/
wonderful .

[Kernel][OC][11/24/11]The Doom Kernel V0.3 BETA

Doom Kernel V0.3
Apparently on the Xperia forums DooMLord has a kernel out called DooMKernel as well. This is in no way affiliated with that. I may change mine to Doom Boot or Doomed Kernel but for now he asked me to make a note like this so here it is.
First, I would like to give a big THANKS to Echts for helping me with repacking the boot.img and get this thing bootable...
Second, THANKS to tekahuna for the OC modules
This kernel contains OC and non OC versions. Speed tweaks, memory tweaks and network tweaks have been included after V0.1. All the non OC versions include all the tweaks.
V0.3 Now increases SDcard read write cache from 128kb to 4096kb
I appreciate any feedback I can get from this. It will work with ANY FROYO rom this is NOT a GB kernel.
How to install:
1) Download
2) Flash in CWM
3) Enjoy your OC kernel

Nooooo as of right now, testing tekahuna's modules, 1.23Ghz was as far as I could push without reboots and FC's.
Sorry forgot to mention that. Right now it is at what tekahuna calls the sweet spot of 1188MHz or 1.18GHz. That is the max as this is just a test speeds will increase slowly. Other tweaks and features will be added slowly.

Yes it will work with any of the thrill roms should work with O3D roms as well AS LONG AS IT IS FROYO this will not work on GB it is a froyo only kernel. Any rom in the Thrill development section will be fine.
How did you manage to get the boot.img repacked? I started trying to use mkimage instead of mkbootimg but to no avail. I have tinkered with all the different settings. Basically I'm just curious what you put for -a , -e , -d , and -C , because I can't get mine to repack. Also, how did you order the various inputs. Because, I just keep getting a usage output. And when I don't get that and it seems to run, still no new boot.img is created.
Thanks.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I will be writing up a nice tutorial here soon. You have to edit unpack-bootimg.pl and like you said the mkimage command has to be just right. Once you get it down the unpacking and repacking is a snap takes no time. It's the adjusting things and what not that becomes the most work.
Beta version 0.2 now contains OC at same clock speed (will release different clock speeds once testing phase is done) also has adjustments to lowmemorykiller, adj, network speeds. Slowly but surely moving along don't want to do too much at once just tweaking a bit then test, tweak a bit more then test. Safest route.
Thank you!
Word. A good how to is definitely needed for working with the Thrill Boot.img. I figured that it couldn't be too difficult. I just feel like i have tried every possible combination for the repacking. But im sure i am just missing something simple. Im assuming the Unpack edit is to change the initial data stripping from 2048 to 76? For now im gonna just include your boot.img that you posted here in my rom im working on (as long as that is cool with you...).
Props to you though for figuring it out...
And thanks to Echts and others for their assistance...
Thanks dude!
So glad that the thrill development scene is finally starting to take off!
Please do, anything I release is free and open to use. That's why we are here right?
And I didn't figure the repack out, it was armcee (sp?) Ricardo that figured it out, he just merely passed the info down the line it finally made it to me lol I actually gave credit to Echts over on O3D forum because he passed the info on to me.
I have to say, the V0.2 kernel definitely speeds things up. Apps run faster, load faster, it's nice... very nice. This is what I have been waiting for, kernel tweaking.
How is the battery useage with the kernel?

Its kind of hard for me to tell because I have been flashing a lot of things. For what I am doing it seems to last a while. Try it out if you don't like it flash back to stock.
Testing the new Kernel, so far i love it, running SetCPU to keep tabs on CPU... Excellent job @Urabewe
cant wait to see if we can get more frequencies to test the OMAP4 processor... make this phone FLY!!!
nice kernel man but Battery drain seems a little high. well it is a no brainer when OC it take more battery power
Yes it's still a work in progress I did notice a bit of extra drain, I am going to release another kernel that's is not OC but contains the speed boosts. I'm hoping that will cure a bit of the battery problem while still keeping the what I think is incredible speed boost.
Also, can anyone else confirm that the delay/lag while installing apps from the market is basically gone with governor on hotplug max at 1188? I have installed about 5 apps and was trying to see how bad the lag was and didn't really experience any.
Well it's official I am calling it a feature... no more lags when installing from market. Phone remains nice and smooth. This kernel combined with Doomed Froyo Slim (which btw includes this kernel in the rom) has no lags and if you can find any lags in any programs or with the launcher let me know.

Is this kernel working with optimus 3D 2.3.5?
Urabewe said:
Yes it will work with any of the thrill roms should work with O3D roms as well AS LONG AS IT IS FROYO this will not work on GB it is a froyo only kernel. Any rom in the Thrill development section will be fine.

It will work with ANY FROYO rom this is NOT a GB kernel.

No froyo only.
Not being rude at all but please read through at the very least the 1st post before asking questions. 2.3.5 is GB this only works with 2.2.2 I will be releasing a 2.3.5 GB kernel soon that one you will be able to use.

[ROM][ARC/S]Lite CM by maxio1998 v1 Beta

Hi! Do you need a really fast ICS ROM? CM Lite by maxio1998 v1 Beta is perfect for you!
It's an AOSP ROM based on CM9 RC1 for Sony Xperia arc/arc S. It has a lot of unuseful apps deleted and that's why it's so fast. ROM is dedicated to people who love fast and smooth Android without taking care of awesome MIUI visual look and battery drain. The kernel used here is very stable and overclockable FXP 126. With FXP you can overclock up to 1,6 GHz. Governors available:
conservative
ondemand
userspace
powersave
interactive (i am using that one)
perfomance (perfext for benchmarks)
IT'S A BETA, BUT SHOULD WORK AS A STABLE RELEASE
ROM is dedicated for Xperia arc S, but it will work on arc also. Only processor's frequency is set up to 1 GHz, so after flashing the ROM overclock your CPU as you want.

Not really. It has some modifiations and improvements like turned on hardware rendering or new boot animation. In next releases I am planning to accelerate GPU with modificated Adreno drivers.

yes..you are right...
This is just sad! Trying to market a rip-off by taking on the FXP team's hard work.
Deleting apps and adding (wow) a new boot animation? :O That sure must have taken a lot of effort, huh?
This is pathetic on so many different levels.

I don't totally agree with you considering it being open source, thus adding or tweaking options should be consider legit. I have seen a lot of members using DoomLoRD, Jimbo77 and others sources and made them into their own ROM or Kernel without too many people complaining about it. Perhaps something good will come out of this, if we give the guy a chance to continue? But posting a link for donations or neglecting to mention the original developers is as you express it, pathetic or at least shamefull.
