Upgrading SD Cards

G1: White (Like it makes a difference lol)
Recovery : RAs 1.3.2
Rom: MLIGN 3.0
SD: 8 gig class 2
Love MLIGN but obviously my sd is the only problem keeping my phone running smooth, so I am upgrading my SD to a class 6. Is there anything special that I need to do since my phone is already running MLIGN and RAs when I pop in the new sd? (i.e. partition?)
Thank you in advance!
you won't have apps on your ext unless you pull them on adb then push then onto the new card.

Is the right way popping in the sd card, partitioning it, then adding the apps?
If it wouldnt be to much to ask, can someone take me step by step, or advise if the above method in red will work.
Thank you in advance
Well you need an ext file browser
try extfs browser by paragon
open up the ext partition on the SD. Take the folders app, app_private, and put them on your computer
partition the card, plug it in, and copy over the folders back onto the new ext partition

Format the card. It will still show 115. Remove card and then reinsert it. Run format again. It will show 115, but if you switch to fat32 it will format to 7.5 gb
sent from my NC
Power up your Nook Color *WITHOUT* the SD card inserted (Otherwise it will try to boot off of the SD card)
Press the button to pull up the context menu with device settings
Then go to device info

[Q] I have Rooted the Nook (SDCARD) but I cant get Clockworkmod to work

So I have installed the Rom on the SDCard and I can see the Rom Manager but I took the SD Card out and put the Google App zip from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version on the SD Card booted the nook back and then went into Rom Manager to "Boot Into Recovery" but nothing happens the system just reboots and I don't get that screen with the orange text to let me install the apps from the SD card.
Keep in mind that I rooted the nook the soft way buy making a bootable SD card.

It doesn't sound like you've actually rooted the nook - you've just booted into an alternate ROM on the SD card. If you want to get into CWM, you can either create an SD card which has CWM and will launch it when you boot with the SD card in, or you can install it to internal memory so the SD card isn't necessary.
Thanks for the notes. I basically figured out I didn't really need it if I used the trick of turning the unit on while holding the N button. As a follow up question. Now that I have everything setup can I make an image of this SD Card and put that image on a bigger faster card? Or will I need to start over?

If you use dd just to copy the raw data on the SD card, you'll get the advantages of faster speed, but the partition will be the exact same size. If you want to take advantage of the bigger space, you'll need to partition the SD card and copy the files manually.

So I don't know much about dd although I have seen it on the site before so I can look that up. As for the partitioning tool I know the first partition has to be 'boot' not sure on what size it has to be or any other specifics do you know any of that data? Also thanks for taking the time to answer all of this. I am hoping that this will stop some of the Force Close issues I am seeing.
The easiest way is to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 to install CM7 to your SD card. The image takes care of creating the partitions of the appropriate size. As for writing the image itself, you can follow any guide for dd, or use WinImage on Windows which is probably a bit easier to follow.
Yeah but I wanted to know if I could copy all my date over. Just by like copy and paste sort of thing. In other words I dont want to get to carried away on installing all this stuff then have to redo everything once I get a better card.

[Q] Power Button broken - can I still upgrade to a larger SD card?

Hey guys,
So I have a Nexus One with a power button that doesn't work (so I use the volume button now instead). I was able to root the phone though, and I downloaded ROM Manager and was able to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
My understanding is that I should be able to use ROM Manager to install new ROMs, but I also want to upgrade my SD card storage from 4GB to 8GB. From what I've found, it sounds like it takes some formatting and partitioning of the SD card and requires booting into Recovery mode by holding down the Power Button and the Volume Up key - problem is, as you know, that my power button doesn't work.
Is there any way for me to upgrade my SD card that doesn't involve using the power button? I know that ROM Manager has the option to boot into recovery mode, but that brings me to a screen with a triangle, with an exclamation mark and a green Android, and nothing happens. Same thing when I try to use QuickBoot to boot into recovery mode.
I tried looking around to see if there was a thread that would answer my question, but couldn't find one so I'm starting a new thread. If there is a thread that answers this, my apologies - please point me to it.
I hope I was able to provide enough information. Hopefully I'm not S.O.L, and I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
It's not necessary to partition SD card unless you flash sense roms or u want to use dt script or s2e to move data to sdext.so you can change your sd card.
I think you should try to flash recovery Again through ROM manager or terminal (try to flash alternate recovery through ROM manager too )
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium
Thanks amolji, you said a few things that I don't quite get since I haven't had to deal with them (dt script, s2e, sdext, etc).
So would I be ok with just a copy and paste of data from the old SD card to the new one? I should point out that I've moved over quite a few apps to my SD card, so if I do decide to copy/paste data to the new SD card, will the apps that are on the SD card launch properly once I've copied them over?

You should be OK. I went from a 4GB to a 16GB card.
-copy content of old sd card to PC
-format new sd card (might not be necessary but I format all new sd card)
-copy contents from PC to new sd card

Hi Cocktail, I'm a Mac user, but I do have s0me experience with file recovery. Your SD Card will be formatted in the Fat 32 File format. Try this utility on your laptop to scan your SD card. Free App
Or try any other file recovery program that you might have access to.
I hope this helps. Anil

Hi Cocktail, if you reformat your SD card whilst in your phone. This will wipe the directory and any dodgy formatting but not any of your files. Then you can scan the SD card for files on your laptop. Recovery software can be told to search the entire logical structure of a volume, and ignore any formatting to find files. This normally takes a little or a long time, depending on the size of the volume.
I've done this on a 1 Terrabyte RAID 5 volume, that took a very long time (days), yours should be a lot quicker. But still that is what I would do.
DISCLAIMER: I am only suggesting a course of action. If your photos are life or death important, then find a company that will do file recovery for you for a price. Google will help you here.
If you follow my suggestion. Then having half decent Windows file recovery software would be very very helpful.
I hope this helps. Anil
When you put your SD card in your laptop do you not see it when you go to "My Computer"? On the SD card adapter it has a little lock on the side which you can flick up and down to lock it, maybe it's locked? (Happened to me before) Or try putting the SD card in a different phone and see what happens.
