Okay... I bought a gently used N1 and the previous owner has it Rooted and flashed to FroYo... I am wanting to try out CM5.0.8t5, but I can't find any directions for going from 2.2 back to CM.
What are the steps I need to switch over? Thanks in advance!
just flash it man - maybe change the radio to the old one.
Damnit... I thought I was posting in Q&A... that's what I get for having too many windows open at the same time. Thanks for moving it.
wipe, flash CM, flash GAPPS....... Froyo radio works on CM5.0.6Test now
So... next question... does Adobe Flash 10.1 work on CM?
No the flash does not work on CM 5.0.8 t5. Since the new CM uses the foryo radio just download the the rom. wipe everything and flash away.

I flashed to the CyanogenMOD 4.0.4 ROM then flashed in Ted's Hero theme for that rom and then all hell broke loss. My phone is suddenly unstable. To get back to the original 4.0.4 rom do i just wipe and then load it on again?
Also, any reason why a theme should make the phone unstable? It thought that all the theme really did was to replace some of the system images.
Thanks

Well I'm not really sure why in the world you would be using a CM ROM with version 1.anything... The most recent ROM is version 4.0.4. Now if you flashed his recovery image version 1.4 that is not a ROM and a theme will mess with a ROM it was not built for. If you really are using his ROM version 1.4.1 then Ted's hero theme is built for version 4.0.4 so yes you will run into lots of issues.
Yes, just wipe and reflash.
Also questions belong in Q&A.
Title should say 4.0.4? build not 1.4.1. sorry about that.

Did you wipe before you flashed CM 4.0.4 and the theme? You shouldnt have to but it might help resolve any issues. You also might want to reformat your ext partition.

try the wipe first, make sure you have the update.zip on the root of your sd card, then use the good old power off then hold home and power button and flash the update
I wiped before the 4.0.4 ROM install yes. obviously not between the 4.0.4 and the theme.
All i'm really wondering is to get back to 4.0.4 can i just wipe and reload? Wipe essentally clears the phone of anything that was on it correct?
wiped and reloaded 4.0.4 build, worked like a charm...thanks guys for help. quick side question...just need a short answer...is installing the stable hero rom that is floating around as easy as the cyanogenMod? or is it much more complicated?

You need to have the newest radio and Haykuro's Special SPL installed to run any Hero ROM. once that is on it is just as easy to flash a hero ROM. If yo install the new SPL make sure to follow the instructions exactly to avoid bricking your phone.
Here's a basic tutorial I wrote up to install Froyo on the N1. Seems like most are having trouble with it. All Files Included. Follow the steps as listed. Report any problems but I have yet to hear from anyone about any issues... Enjoy!
My Way also updates to the newest radio. New radio includes new Video Encoders so you'll want to try the new radio first.
Tutorial Here
Please Post your Results - Feedback. Thank You.
If you try any optional kernels, try .34 kernels, not 33.4. There is positive feedback w/ .34kernels + new radio. If you're using the Old Radio and a 2.1 Build then stay on the 33.4 kernels.
I know it's redundant to install CM first as it mostly gets overwritten. Again, these are the steps I took and it's what's worked for me and others. Don't skip steps, if you have any issues let me know. I also just updated the CM 5.0.7 to Final, it's not test-3 anymore.
Like I always say... ENJOY!
+1 - Worked like a charm
The N1 can't boot up and hang on the 4color logo after flash the CM 5.0.7, what can I do now ?

Did you wait for the radio update to finish (the picture of the box with the arrow coming out of it pointing to the android) and have it go back to the recovery screen again?
The instructions don't appear to make any mention of the radio flash & reboot. I also don't see the point of installing the Cyanogen ROM first, what's the benefit of doing this considering the majority of it gets overwritten by the FroYo /system flash anyway, and the gapps all get replaced as well. (Cyan installs nothing to the /data partition).

Try the tutorial again, the radio part wasn't the issue as you haven't even gotten to that step yet. I re-uploaded CM 5.0.7 to final, it's not test 3 anymore... Try again and post results please... and follow steps exactly. As far as doing CM first, it's not necessary, I just include that step because it's how I did it and it works great for me and everyone who's tried it this way.
Also, make sure you do the prerequisites first like installing the recovery
Why not just load up FRF50 straight up, why the need for the EPE54B, and CM 5.0.7?

Again, this is the way I used and it worked... Also, there are 2 update.zip's floating around. 1 Is an update from 2.1 to 2.2 and one is the full update.
Better safe than sorry
I recently purchase a used unlocked rooted Nexus One and am trying to learn about all the N1 terminology and update processes. The below is my "About phone" info.
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
Kernel version: 2.6.34-cyanogenmod, root(at)pershoot-ubuntu#56
Build number: Kang-o-rama 0.9b2 SP1 (FRF83)
Can you guys please tell me what all this means? I know it's Froyo FRF83 but:
Am I running stock recovery?
Am I running stock release?
What version of Cyanogen mod am I running?
I'd like to update to either FRF85B or FRF91 but I replaced the SD card that came with the phone and stupidly formatted it so I'm not sure if I still need anything from that card. I don't really need a backup since I haven't put too much on the phone since I got it. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
You are not running CM. you're runnning the kang o rama rom, which uses the CM kernel. You most likely do not have a stock recovery if you've got that rom on your phone. If you want to get back to stock, follow this:

Thanks for the reply! So if I go back to stock, I can flash to, say FRF85B, root and then install custom ROM?

Is your end goal to install custom roms? Because that is a very roundabout way fo doing it. By the sounds of it you can already install whatever rom you want. Including the stock rom made for unlocked phones.

I guess so. I haven't had a chance to look into which custom ROM is the best for this phone. It seems like a lot of instructions mention stock recovery/release. I just want to be able to follow along with the instructions If I can already do that, then I'll look into it! Thanks
Pretty much find a guide that tells you how to do it form start to finish. But skip past the unlock, root, and recovery steps. You probably only need to know how to use the custom recovery to flash new roms. Learn about nandroid backups, and how to flash, and you should be good.
Thanks for the advice guys! I just flashed to CM6. Seemed relatively painless. Hope I don't run into any issues!
Hi, my first post..
so i read some and rooted my captivate, flashed it to Cognition 2.3b7 and since then my wifi stopped working...
I am guessing I can flash with another ROM ?
and don't have to go back to stock build??
if so which rom should I go with? I like the Gingerbread look and feel but open to try others...this phone is new and I don't have to worry about files/information yet.
thanks for your help
First, welcome to XDA, but...wrong section, this belongs in Q&A not development.
Mods please move.
You want to flash stock using odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Don't try to flash another rom directly on top, you will compound the problem.
Have you tried reboot on your phone
If you are lost you can pm me

You should have an update zip on your sd from rom manager/clockwork. Take this fille, and save it to your pc, our external sd. When you are on stock put it back on your internal sd, boot into recovery, reinstall packages twice, you will have clockwork recovery. Youcan flash roms from here without root.
I am not sure your problem was from cognition, maybe a bad flash. I am using assonance, so far so good but I have not been on it for long, axura is nice as well.
I would also suggest that you do a master clear after odin, make sure you are not keeping any troubled files. Make sure you backup anything you do not want erased to your oc or external sd
Remove sim and external sd before odin, master clear, or rom flash. Suggested not to flash roms with usb plugged in. always best to flash with full bat

Well, If you are going to flash trough CWM then no, you dont need to root again because you dont need to root to use CWM. Just make sure you keep the CWM update.zip on your sdcard boot into recovery and choose reinstall packages and you will boot into CWM.
And about the ROM. Well, you could try Cognition2.3b6, Perception8 or Assonance. I heard Cog has better battery life than Perc but Perc is faster, also the main diference is that Perc is based on i9000 ROM and Cog is based on Captivate ROM. I really dont know anything about Assonance escept that people say it's good.
If you are looking for another ROM, consider Assonance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856877
Full instructions are included in the original post.
Hi guys. First post so hope I don't look like an idiot!
Flashed Cognition v2.3b6 2 weeks ago but had to go back to stock 2.1 jh6 reason being while @ home I can connect to my protected wifi network with no problem but if I try to
use an open wifi network say at Denny's or an AT&T hotspot my wifi just loops and no hook up! {N/G} Have to switch back to 3G to get to on the net. After flash back to stock no wifi problems anywhere. Yesterday, 12/22/2010, flash to new Cognition v2.3b8. After flash went to Denny's and wifi N/G! Am I alone here or is anyone else having this problem? Flashed back to stock and today did Kies mini update to jh7, AOK! Went back to Denny's and had no problems connecting to wifi??????????????????
I am currently running Cognition v2.3b7
(2.6.32.9 cogKernelv2-non-oc-uv-Designgears #4)
and my battery is HORRIBLE lately. In the beginning it was fine so now I am thinking of moving over to Andromeda just to try it out
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917727&page=109)
Mind you I m still new to flashing roms and etc so cognition was my first flash and I heard that it runs a voodo lag fix and i need to disable it or something before i can flash over to another rom? is there any instructions into how i can flash over to Andromeda or any other ROM with cognition 2.3b7 already running??
Thank you for any help !
Ok.. mind you I am still some what of a newb to the android phones myself.. but i recently bought one and the first flash I did was to cog 3.04.. then wanted to try out the new Andromeda 2.0 myself and I was able to flash right to Andromeda without having to use Odin..
From the other thread that I got the info from, supposedly if it is running the same Kernel?? (sorry if incorrect, I will try and get you the link to the thread and repost so you can read it for sure) then you can flash right to it without going back to stock first..
the thing is, your not using Cog 3.04.. so I am not 100% sure.. are you using Froyo or Eclair with that Rom?? If Froyo, guessing that you could just flash to Andromeda.. if not.. then you would have to do the Flash procedures that is in the sticky in the developers portion that says something along the lines of "Hot to FLash a Custom Rom" or similar title.. think its the only sticky on the page iirc..
let me get you that link.. and hopefully helps some..
Zug
Edit: here is the linke to that post i used to help me flash from cog to andromeda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933275
You should be fine to just flash over as the new rom also has a kernel which recognizes ext4 file systems. If you are more comfortable disabling it you do so by placing a file in the voodoo folder that should be on your sd card named "disable-lagfix" without quotes, and reboot. It should take some time to reboot while it goes through the conversion process.
THANK YOU
THANK YOU GUYS !!!!
It worked out perfectly i didnt have to go thru the hassle of using ODIN and running through that whole process over again..it was very quick and i have to say this rom is AMAZING so far..its supper quick but i cant seem to get the whole animations (like how the settings pop out flying out from the side of the screen) but getting that to work is another mission for me now ..but thank you both once again ...Gona go have fun with this now
