i was just curious if the hero was getting the 2.2 update? doesnt look like much of a difference but im still curious
It is highly unlikely that we will see an official release of 2.2, but the devs here on this forum will try to work on it. darchstar has already stated that when the 2.2 source is released and implemented into Cyanogen mod, he will port it over.
While it might seem that different, there are a lot of major changes, especially in speeed. The Market has an autoupdate feature in 2.2, Apps2SD is built in (but, I assume, it's not based on our same Apps2SD. Just the same function), and JIT is fully functioning and working as it should. The Nexus One running 2.2 runs almost 8 times faster than it does with 2.1, or so I've been told.
lol, let the 2.2 threads begin....
We barely got 2.1.
Im sure after the devs get froyo working, sprint will steal it, mod it slightly, leak it back out to the devs for them to tweak, and us to test, then sprint will release it officially about 6 months later, blaming htc for the hold up and it will still have tons of problems. Then the devs will figure out how to root it and sprint/htc will put out a update almost the next day to patch the root exploit.
Anyone else have a idea?

So would you say it will be an ......"extreme" improvement (har har har oh not funny). Yeah your right we'll probably never see an official release. Unlike tmobile who have said or rumored to say all their phones that can get it will.

Nope. I would, however, say it would be pretty Xtreme
I would love to see 2.2 on my Hero. Especially because that would mean I could go into Sprint and show them that my Hero is running faster than their EVO
thanks for the feedback guys. yeah i was watching videos of the nexus one running 2.2 and that thing was blazing fast!!!
i sent HTC a message last night asking if the hero was going to get the 2.2 release and this was there response...
(Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support about your device. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com.)

Only way to fix bugs is with updates.

So now that Google has release the SDK for 2.2 do you think we will start seeing it ported over to our heros?
engadget link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/android-2-2-sdk-goes-live-developers-likely-unable-to-crash-goo/
yeah, is this even a possibility at all? I'm guessing no since you needed a link from Sprint to get 2.1 on there. Am i right?
Lol would be awesome to see 2.2 on the hero though. now we just need another 3 years for the "Official"[Official]{Official} release of it from sprint lol
I am just waiting for the Evo
yes i think we should see it ported, we have some of the brightest devs here, if people stop insulting them lol i could see the port real soon, believe or not this cdma section has some talent.
Yes you will
will 2.2 work on older devices? i know google said it will work on all new 2010 android phones but i'm curious if it'll work on the hero, moment, g1, etc. i'd say yes.

Wow, we have had "official" 2.1 for 1 day and already asking for 2.2. Not like it wasnt forseen but it is still funny.
I just want to make a note here:
The 2.2 SDK is not the 2.2 OS Software.
***INSERTING FOOT IN MOUTH*** QuietCB has shut me up about the OS rant that was here.
posted this is gen discussion but thought it was funny enough to post here.
just ask engadget for a 2.2 leak. lol. oops, learn2blur
with the emphasis on Google's wanting to stop the fragmentation of builds out there, i think that our brilliant devs will do it, probably very AOSP-y
I just hope HTC releases a phone with 2.2 soon so we can not only have 2.2, we can have it with Sense.
I want JIT and Sense working together
I have updated my stock 2.1 N1 to Froyo (Build FRF50) manually. I'm wondering, though, if this release is really meant to be the official, final Google-supported update.
Is there any word from Google (except for MG Siegler's "The roll out to Nexus One devices has begun!" over at Seeking Alpha) that this is the one?
Same question here. Also if this turns out to be a pre released update, can the stock N1 be updated to a official version?
from what i understand there is no actual official word. That said im loving froyo: As with previous updates, froyo added features and bug fixes and also brought some new issues, so if you are thinking maybe its not official because of some bugs, to me that wouldnt be sufficient evidence: I havent experienced any of the complaints save one- Anyone else having the phone randomly go to sleep and not wake up?
The scrolling,
updated native apps (youtube is amazing now),
overall speed increase,
awesome camera/camcorder updates,
very smooth BETA flash,
simple and effective tethering,
fantastic new setting options throughout the OS,
left AND right rotating
updated UI (love the phone/app drawr/ browser buttons)
and im sure im forgetting stuff...All extremely awesome features and my personal new issues of freezing and hard sleep i can live with i just hope they arent harmful.
i't doesn't feel like a complete FroYo. I have little bugs that i noticed. screen goes black and don't go on anymore, have to take out battery. When the phone is in the charger and i'm playing with it, It gets really really hot.
The new features are great i miss some CM tweaks The UI was a little different at the IO so maybe there will be more surprises?
this was a prerelease to the developer holiday phone the official is coming out around the 29th of may and will continue to roll out till all nexus ones have the update

How do you know this? also will we get that update too?
Well the "leaked" URL was pulled, wasn't it?
this was very likely to be a pre test release. I've looked into the build.prop and there are signs that it is a test release as the word test appears several times throughout.
Given the silence from Google, and the subsequent removal of the link, I suspect this was an accident... meant it to go to a select few whilst forgetting how easy it was to distribute the location of the update.zip.
Wouldn't bother me any if this was the official ... its flawless for me. No freezes or any wierd stuff. Pure froyoness

So the link is gone than it's definitely a accident.
I'm gonna say this ain't the final release. But I doubt it'll be any diff. How much more could they fix or improve from the accidental release to the real one.... I bet the same bugs people are seeing now will be present in the final...
Nothing's perfect
Except for me.lol no issues
oh dear... not so good if this is true!
I spose people on here flashed the update.zips from xda?
Hopefully Google will push out the live update now certainly with the potential problems people could be getting
No, I flashed with the file direct from Google before the link was pulled.
So it's all over the news Nexus has froyo now but has anyone with a legit locked stock phone actually gotten it? Like one of the ATT folks?
Anyone have any links to some real clarification on this?
No stock AT&T/Vodafone customer can get it yet.

No, I am one of the many AT&T folks that is still waiting for the official release from Google. I have a 3 week old N1 that is still stock and with locked boot loader, and I have no problems waiting, as I am not ready to root my new N1 just yet.
the official will we the frf86 as seen in a couple threads this version will work fine for the holiday version of the nexus one . i tried it on both the holiday nexus one and the official release of the nexus one and it runs better for some reason on the holiday version
Where are you getting all the info from?
Is there likely to be much added between FRF50 and FRF86?
How SO we know if its a holiday one?
This may have already been discussed but I couldn't find anything in the search. Has anyone done this or is it even possible to do? Are there any other ways to get 2.2 with sense on the Hero?
Not possible from evo. Its build for a different processor. Best bet will be when the legend gets there official release and gets ported over.

Anything is possible. Officially? Probably not. Besides JIT, I cant see it offering anything worthwhile for me personally. I have a computer for junk requiring flash. My hero, currently, is blazing fast and so responsive that Im left thinking about my next touch...my device is always waiting on me.
I want a cdma legend.
Hero won't get an official 2.2 update. Sprint has said so already. That's not to say they won't release an update on August 13, but it won't be 2.2
who cares where this is supposed to be but it's here now. Anyways what really should be asked is whether someone is gonna port the desire 2.2 official rom to busy watching evo

Knowing Sprint it will be an update back to 1.5.
As far as I know, the closest thing to a fully functional Froyo on the CDMA Hero would be Cyanogenmod 6.
According to this link, the only thing NOT working is the PREVIEW for the camera apps. Otherwise, from what I've read, its an all around stable ROM ready for daily use.. As long as you're not co-dependent on your camera.
I'm thinking of taking the leap today.

Desire froyo is way to big to be ported. The best chances for a full port of froyo is from a legend build which when it comes out in the next month or so I already know someone who is getting ready for the port. Other than that the home made froyo is all that's gonna work for now.

Been using CM6T4 for over a month as daily... camera preview? Just use camera magic for that and for camcorder... well that's the sacrifice I made to have this phone run waaayyy faster and the battery life last waaayy longer than any other ROM out there

Are you serious??? Have you not seen the post for CM6.0.0?
Just so you know, that's Froyo, build FRF91, overclocked to 768mhz. Only thing that doesn't work is flash, b/c it's written for an arm7 processor, not an arm6.

I would but my vogue is in my son's hands an hour away. Still running 2.2
Also there shouldn't be any problems running Gingerbread on the vogue/kaiser it's running fine on the Hero minus some needed hardware libraries which can now be fixed thanks to google releasing the source.

We just threw up a post about the latest Netflix update which brought support to the original DROID, but what we failed to originally realize is that the update removed the device check which means in theory, that it should be able to work on all phones. Well, guess what? I loaded it up on my DROIDX2 (which is “not” supported) and it installed just fine and is now streaming a video. I’m loading it up on other devices too, but wanted to make sure you all knew. Feel free to grab it below and install – let us know how it goes!
*Note – this is not a hacked version. This is 100% the market version.
Update: Works on Thunderbolt (rooted 2.3), DROIDX2, DROIDX (2.3), and Xperia PLAY.
Update 2: No XOOM support though.
Update 3: Looks like it’s pretty hit or miss. Definitely sounding like it’s not working on stock Thunderbolt which is a damn shame.
Cheers Brandon!

Doubt that will work or anything for that matter because they have been trying to get it to work on many devices on the main Android forums of XDA and not many people are having luck.

It is not the epic 4g, it is hummingbird based devices on the 2.2 kernal. Our cm7 isnt built on gingerbread source. It is still on 2.2.1 source. The reason that you need 2.3 because it has better hardware support for the hummingbird processor due to the fist flagship device to have a hummingbird was on 2.3 release not 2.2 release. Also, our software DRM that Samsung gave us in our 2.1 and 2.2 based ROMs sucks/is unable to support Netflix web streaming.
