I have been combing the forums and searching like crazy for a way to get my MMS to work on T-Mobile USA with my ATT Tilt. It has the stock WM 6.1 on it.
Can someone PLEASE help me and NOT refer me back to searching? I'm about ready to get rid of the phone
Have you tried using the T-mobile configurator?
http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/
There was a Cab floating around called tmobyjoe599 that could also set all the data settings. It appears to be here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395203
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565522
Ya, non of that seems to work. I'm sure that someone out there must have gotten this to work...I've had other phones from other provides and didn't have an issue with MMS...
Check to see that you have 3G signal. No 3G no MMS. Also, I'm not sure but does the Kaiser3 (TILT) even support the 3G Frequency of T-Mobile?
Also, SINCE you are using a Stock At&t ROM I have a sneaking suspicion that you won't get an At&t Optimized ROM to work on another Network. Maybe you should flash a Custom ROM and see if that helps.
Ya, i've tried that too, and I can't even get the hardSPL to install...SOOOO i think I'm stuck with no MMS : ( I get the big "E" on my screen for the edge network of T-Mobile.
EDIT: Nevermind, I FINALLY got it, with the help of T-Mobile Configuration tool...
moneyies?
do you have to pay for the configuremyphone thing if you have unlimited texting?
I have been lurking and learning on here for about a month I bought a used Alltel MP6950 from craigslist and I was hoping to activate it on my alltel account I am legacy alltel with verizon well I was informed that I would have to pay 29.99 data plan.So I have been playing with it to at least see if I could get it to update prl ota and cannot get it to work I updated the prl last night from 30033 to 30053 and I finally have a EV signal icon on my phone and when I call I don't get the Roaming network I get Verizon but it will not complete the programing ota I have made some changes to the code thru qpst just to see if I could get any type of connection.I have decided now to go ahead and active it thru verizon but I want to do it online thru website and I was wanting to know if the changes I made like changing the phone number inside the phone from what it was to mine.I am running Mighhty Rom 6 and love it I just got my gps to work last night. Will those changes I made stop it from activiating and if so what can I do to fix this Thanks alot and sorry for the long post
the changes probably wont do anything well unless you did anything really wierd either way you can flash your phone back to the original rom and then it will reset all qpst settings to default. then you can go ahead activate it online. if you need help with the data ask and ill help once you have it activated

Did you flash a Sprint Hero over to Metro?
I had Metro till I got my Hero..
I know that if you flash a phone to work on Metro, there may be some features you will not be able to use.
i had sprint but moved to metro cuz i got a employe discount. i only pay 25$ a month for the 50$ plan. but yea its flashed over to metro and i need to know how to get metro wap settings on the phone
this may not end well for you...

sorry buddy....but you're **** out of luck..
Metro and Hero are not made for each other...i suggest you go get a plan with Sprint if you want those features on your phone to work..
I read a post on how to get it on win mo phones and I tried it on my phone and I got data for like 30 secs and then it just disappears. but I know an other dealer who said he can get web on it for me. but mms on is available for the Eris right now
Anycut
Use ANYCUT app download it and shortcut proxys to the desktop.
use wap.metropcs.net
port: 3128
this gets the browser working
but havn't figured mms yet
check howardforums.com, they have a lot of info on getting stuff to work on metro that is not supposed to.
I got my Hero on Metro with the browser working with anycut....and half of MMS working I can receive pic mess but can't send?
I need apps dude, the market I can't figure out. I'm being told that I need to use adb shell?
Any help with full access would much appreciated!

You need the Market at all times? Can't you just turn on wifi and get whatever apps you need loaded up? There may be times it is less than convenient, but I don't see how having 24/7 market availability is totally necessary.
I assume you got the browser going because Metro has web access, but the reason Market won't work is because you don't have a full data plan with Metro??? Do providers like Metro or Cricket even offer full data on any phones?
Anyone think we can get the Hero working on the new Beyond Talk plans that are coming out from Virgin Mobile on the 12th? Unlimited data and text on the sprint 3g network with 300 voice minutes for $25 a month. Best non blackberry phone they will have though is the LG Rumor Touch. If we could get the Hero to work I might have to do it just to try it out.
Full internet has beend done with Market working 24/7 it's not a free fix though!
Anyone what help out?
Huh? What exactly are you asking?

How to force 3rd party apps and market to use wap.metropcs.net?
Everything else works but no Android Market and no Apps? I would like to use the GPS, Navigation and a few other apps?
Thanks for the help!
AFAIK - No one running a Hero off of another carrier has access to those over EVDO WiFi is probably your only solution for Apps/Market.
Metro can't be that much cheaper to go through all this work.
PLease Help Metro settings
Well it seems that this string ended badly for those looking for metro settings for a hero. However, i paid 60 bucks to get mine rooted and setup on metro (also got first month free). The problem is, that when i got home the internet stopped working including maps and apps, which i attributed to bad reception. SAdly enuff, it never worked again, now its just a touch that can make calls and text as MMS crapped out shortly after. If anyone has an apn backup they can share i would even be willing to pay again as long as it's working. Did i get duped or did metro chage their settings that quickly? Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Also i am having trouble getting my spc code, if it's not 000000 then what is it?
Try hexscrews rom it has the apn settings you need. Also I;m 99% sure that you can't get the market to work until metro gets a android phone of it's own. You could try apks like market enabler to fake like your on tmobile or sprint.

Hey Guys,
I'm really liking my first Android phone, but am having a heck of time working out the kinks. Phone calls and text work. Here's a list and if anyone can help out with any of them, I'd really appreciate it.
1. The phone constantly tries to do Sprint Auto-Activation. I *believe* this is causing the GUI to crash constantly...I've tried three ROMs and none run very stable. Is there a way to disable that pesky auto-activate?
2. I need data settings for Virgin or Boost. Coming from an iPhone, I don't see a setting for an APN anywhere. I think I have the settings, but I'm not sure I'm putting them in the right place.
3. Is there a special ROM I should install since I'm not on Sprint? I'm surprised there aren't more Verizon ROMs around.
Please help with any suggestions.
Realized this should probably be in the "General" instead....

So your on virginmobile but with a cdma hero? Awesome to get to the apn settings just hold the green call button down till you get the voice dial or just do it from your menu. When it comes up say, "open apns". It will take you to the apns. Are you rooted? Also to get the phone to stop doing that pesky
Thanks for the help. I'm working on the APN stuff now. I think your last post got cut short. I'd really like to know how to disable to auto-activate crap. I'm also getting invalid username/password, but I'm sure thats just becuase its trying to log into Sprint.
So u can use sprint phones on virgin mobile? please how do u do this..that 25 buck plan looks to good to pass up.. How would i say use my hero on virgin mobile..
I'm only able to place calls and text. NO DATA which is driving me nuts. I need the APN/Data settings for VM, but no one seems to have them.
And my phone keeps trying to do Sprint auto-activation, which is also driving me nuts. And I keep getting GUI crashes no matter which ROM I use. So far the process has been anything but smooth.
Does anyone have ideas on disabling Sprint auto-activation? Thanks!

I knows this isn't much help but do a search for cricket. I saw a way earlier just gotta find it cuz i'm not doing anything i'll look to ..... try this enter ##data# then hit edit enter your msl then turn off vocoder. Also hit menu then commit changes
I'm pretty sure I seen an APK in the phone somewhere that was related to the over the air activation stuff... might wanna look for it.
I could be wrong, that may be for the Moment, but that's Android on Sprint too so I dont see why the Sprint Hero would be different.
I too am really interested in putting my Hero on Virgin Mobile US. Has anyone figured out the data settings for wap/apn and whatever else is needed? If not, if one were to purchase a cheap virgin phone, say a jax, could the information be taken from there?
Also, would it be necessary to use a non-sprint ROM since virgin mobile runs on the Sprint network???? Thanks for any help.
Ok, I tried the BitterSweet and the nags went away and everything is running smooth on my Hero...I'm really liking it. Just no DATA. I'm still waiting on settings from someone. I tried VM tech support and they didn't even know what an APN was...seriously.
Yes, you can buy a cheap $10 Virgin Mobile phone and use those "settings" for the Hero. That's all I'll say about that.

Lol, not asking about that one setting. I already knew that part, I mean if someone were to buy a cheap phone would they be able to get all the settings, apn/wap and so on from it. If so, which phone, and what else would be needed?

can program your apns in by holding down the green call button and saying "open apns" also try pushing ##data# and you'll get a menu with data and mms stuff. Another note I've been doing some research to avoid the overpriced $75 dollars to get the phone flashed to metropcs and (two things) one they say they've rooted the hero. Two they say that for a normal flash all they do is change the prl.
I've accessed the ##DATA# and APN menus, but I have no idea what to change them to. I've also looked into PRLs but I can't seem to find one for Virgin. I know they just use the Sprint network so wouldn't the PRL be the same?
If anyone is really interested in using the Hero on Virgin, Boost, or Cricket PM me. I searched the internet for hours finding all the info and I don't mind helping someone else out. The more people we get working on this, the more likely we are to figure these settings out.

**** I'm trying to get it to work on metro. My main thing right now is to stop it from doing the hands free activation. I know we have slightly separate goals but that is something we could work on together. What you really need is for the op of this thread to send you his prl.
I got rid of the Sprint Auto-Activation by installing BitterSweets ROM. It's working great so far.

Just realized you were the op can you upload your prl for others? A full nandroid would be awesome
The PRL I'm using is the standard one that comes with the Hero. I haven't changed it. I can upload it, but it should be one everyone has by default on Sprint. I forget the version...

Getting GSM (& Straight Talk) working on the Droid Bionic running Jelly Bean 4.1.
If you're here I'm sure you know now that it is possible, contridictory to all those who claim it's not because of these specs or that data sheet or press release.
Apparently it has the exact same radio / chipset as other Moto World phones it's just not for lack of a better term "unlocked".
BTW...If I was to recommend an order to do the "trifecta" in, this would be the last step. I doubt it would effect rooting. But MOST of the problems I ran into updating to JB had to do with the fact I originally did this when I was still on ICS, then it caused a bunch of probs while trying to update. Namely all of the "System 7" errors. See that thread for more.
****FIRST AND FOREMOST*****
Make copies of every file you change in their current untouched state, before editing, and if you can't, keep notes of their current values.
Also do not do this with the SIM in, it's not required for anything other than testing and getting a signal at the end.
This, from my experience, is also the cause of the "android.phone" shut down error loop.
IF you get that, shut the phone down in between hitting the "ok" button of the error loop and remove the SIM and continue. Once you finish and have reception it shouldn't return.
Follow the build.prop edits shown on the XDA thread "Bionic working on T-MO."
*You have to have root access to edit this file. I use ES File Explorer, use in "root" mode and enable R/W for everything. Whatever file explorer you use I'm sure it's similar, just look thru the settings.*
Then I saved changes & rebooted, and did the RadioComm part. Apparently this is the step that turns on / unlocks the GSM radio.
When you open RadioComm and it asks what setting to start on pick, same as chipset setting (will edit & update w exact in a minute don't have it open right now, you have to scroll about midway down the list tho.)
*If the big box in the middle right doesn't fill up with code, or totally turn green after you make the change to the first (16) numbers & save, somethings wrong and the edit didn't save. restart the steps & make sure they're right. Close RadioComm. You're done with it (...for now)
Disconnect Phone & Reboot.
After boot go to Dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#info#*#*), should go right to a menu & pick Phone Info. go down to "set preferred network type" & pick WCDMA. back out and should be done.
People have said this won't stay set for them. Following all the instructions, I've not had a problem keeping a network set. I believe this is controlled with one of the build.prop edits. There are suggested fixes out there, if you go thru the settings and edits and you're still having a prob, try those.
In truth, mine defaults to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL), but it doesn't seem to effect my service, and I believe that will auto switch between networks which is fine with me becasue I can't get CDMA with the GSM sim anyways.
If you just want GSM, that should be it. Power down, put your SIM in and reboot. If you have AT&T or T-Mo, the APNs are already loaded and should default after phone reads SIM.
If you get "unknown SIM" dialog just click "ok". It will come up every time you reboot your phone tho so if you want to put an end to it, there's a quick build.prop edit that fixes it. Will Post exactly when I find it again.
but it's something like changing:
vzwphone=1 to
vzwphone=0 (only for ref until I get it up).
****Straight Talk (At&t SIM)
Before putting in SIM and after Preferred Network change.
go to Dialer, ##7764726 (##program) & hit "call" / phone button, enter "000000" for SPC password & "Verify".
Go down to #13 APN Controls,
then APN Config Edit.
Touch menu button on phone (4-squares) & New APN.
These are my settings & Voice, Data & MMS all work.
Name: Straight Talk AT&T
APN: att.mvno (make sure "MVNO" had this as MNVO and couldn't figure out what was wrong)
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default, supl, mms, hipri, dun (no space betw commas)
That's it. anything not listed above was left blank or as it defaulted.
power down put in SIM, and in a few minutes you should have service.
If you do, try going on internet, if that works, try sending yourself a picture msg.
All have worked for me.
****BTW - 2 things....make sure you have Wifi turned off, & you have mobile data enabled / on. (the mobile / packet data "On" thing was the issue with my Captivate Glide not getting data & MMS and it drove me nuts, then to find out it was just a switch & bang worked great.)
I hope this helps at least someone.
Cheers.
the one issue I still kinda have....
For whatever reason I get great data speeds.
typically 4.5 - 6+ Mbps down & 1.5 - 2 up.
but my voice levels are typically high -80's to -105 dbms
which equals at best, a not steady 3 bars.
Usually only 2 bars (mid -90's dbms) and quite often the little spec of a triangle.
I've tried the RadioComm Hex edit & adding lines to the build.prop to get boost signal reception that others have said helped them. Neither have done anything for me. (found here)
Currently still have both "running".
also tried this build.prop change
vzwglobalphone=1 to
vzwglobalphone=0
still no change.
The reason this is kinda an issue for me is my daily is currently a Samsung Captivate Glide and I Consistantly am at 4+ bars and high 70's. I don't know why I shouldn't get same reception in same areas, especially because I read that Moto radios are better than Samsung ones.
I do wonder if it's because the other is a "native" GSM, but then I think that the Moto is too, it was just "turned off" before.
Again I'm not a Dev, but I do want this to be my daily, so I'm willing to try pretty much anything since I have a back-up. So if anyone who knows more than me or has found a fix that works for them, please share.
i have followed your directions to the letter but still get bootloop. can u b a lil more detailed on how to save the build.prop to prevent this
@ smutta - Do you mean the android.phone shut down error? THe only time I experienced a boot loop was when I updated to JB, and that's when I was getting the "motorola dual core" boot animation loop. The result of that in my case was the "system 7" errors I mentioned in the JB update thread. Those are a result of, lack of a better way of putting it, the checksum's not matching what the update is looking for. Any hacks / changes you've made will seem to cause it to error out and the boot loop. Please check that thread too.
good luck.

Thank you i got it working and with a few roms also
@MoodSwinger
I am very new to this whole hack thing.
I've read, read, and read some more about trying to find the right way to do this.
I've successfully (through a combination of steps on here and other threads) got my (previously Verizon) Bionic on the Straight Talk network. I have voice, text, and data. Now, I'm running into a few of things that I can't seem to fix.
1st- My radio signal is real low (1 bar to 3 max) The network does not read 3G, it reads "H" ... What does that mean? I've never seen "H".
2nd- The phone seems to have a hell of a time detecting the SD card. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it doesn't.
3rd- I usually have no problem getting my apps back on from my Google account that backs them up after I would FXZ. I usually have to re- download them, but they are at least there. That doesn't happen anymore. I don't know how to recover them. This might have something to do with not having the proper signal. ???
What do you think I should do from here? Any input?
I have a feeling that a couple of tweaks in the build.prop would do the trick, but I'm not sure which ones to modify.
Also, I called Straight Talk and they gave me a more suitable APN for my area(I guess):::::
Name:
Straight Talk
APN:
tfdata
MMSC:
h t t p://mms-tf.net (without the spaces in the http, of course)
MMS Proxy:
mms3.tracfone.net
MMS port:
80
----------------
The rest he told me to just let it default, and that it would fill in itself if need be.
Otherwise, I tweaked the build.prop just like you illustrated in your post.
Thanks for the help, or even pointing me in the direction of an amazing Motorola radio tech.
I have root and I have flashed thru radiocomm the 1877 values.
I get the android.phone FC every time I switch to anything GSM or WCDMA related in phone testing.
I can't find the current workable build.prop edits, am trying to get it to work on Simple mobile.
Also what does renaming / deleting the stk.apk and atk.odex do?
Current edits
persist.radio.ap.phonetype=2 and changing the value to 1.
^only for JB
ro.telephony.default_network=7 (to set GLOBAL preferred network type)
ro.mot.phonemode.vzw4gphone=0 (to make possible APN edit)
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 (to fix signal strength and wrong carrier)

Will Post exactly when I find it again.
but it's something like changing:
vzwphone=1 to
vzwphone=0 (only for ref until I get it up).
Cheers.

i have done many bionics using this radiocomm hack, everything works on stock, but when i try AOKP rom 4.2 (milestone 2) , custom rom, my sms do not work (inmeadtly receive a message not sent error) any ideas why?
No, no ideas. Is it just SMS or MMS too? or all data? can you get on the internet? does it work w WIFI?
I have been wanting to try the AOKP rom, but I installed the MS1 and at that time it didn't work w GSM, so I haven't gotten around to trying it even since the GSM patch had come out. Does the MS2 have the GSM "Built in"? If I can use it w Safestrap I'' give it a shot and see if I can fig it out.

Honestly, every straight talk modded phone i have seen that isnt getting sms has a problem within the apn settings. The ones you quoted in that post are the best i have used but depending on where you live, you may have to use the tracfone version. Or it ay be something totally different and unique.

I got it fixed, just tweaked some biuld.prop settings , that was the problem, i had made the buildprop tweaks only in the stock one, so no wonder the aokp had problems, and to answer your question , everything works, WIFI, DATA, just by installing it you will not get GSM working you have to do:the the radiocomm edit, the build.prop edit, i even got FM radio working again on JB, no the MS2 doesnt work as GSM until you make the changes, but ponce you do , everything GSM is in there in the aokp menus (apn edits, etc)
I have my bionic going on straight talk w/At&t. Under settings>mobile networks>Network operators I have the choice to search networks and select from a couple of different At&t options, a t-mobile option or I can set it to "choose automatically." Should I keep this on choose automatically or should I select one of the At&t networks it detects, and is there a difference? The two at&t bands appear to operate at the same frequency whereas the T-mobile network looks like a smaller range. I'm trying to optimize signal/data. Thanks in advance.
***UPDATE*** I left my house for the first time today since getting my phone going on GSM w/AT&T StraightTalk and I had 4 bars of reception and full 3g downloads and full messaging capabilities. I'm satisfied with the results and I think any difference in signal strength may come from having been spoiled on Verizon's coverage, even though I never got good reception at my house with verizon either so I guess I can't expect more from someone else.
I can root, flash recovery, flash the TBH GSM.zip hack -- As soon as I reboot from CWM I recieve the error "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen.
I am on 0A.78 - restoring with cdma_targa_9.8.2O-72_VZW-22_cfc.xml.zip (It is the only build that won't err on flash.)
After Restore, I use Oracle VM Ware to root with Root_Bionic_JB_20130501-4.ova
I then install BionicBootstrap.apk - I reboot into CWM, then BAM- Encryption error all over again......
Any ideas? I've been all over the Android boards and can't find much help. I have only had SIM detection and service 1 time previously- I tried to make a call and the phone would not connect. I had to do a manual reboot and I was right back where I started.
You can't use Bionic BootStrap recovery on any build after ICS and you also can't use the TBH zip method anymore.
You have to use RadioComm or other NV access tool to make the edits manually along with the build.prop edits needed.
Is there an actual STEP BY STEP guide? I had it working on stock 4.1.2 ... as soon as I flashed a custom recovery I was right back to Encryption unsuccessful. I was up for 24 hrs + last time when I managed to get it going, so needless to say I'm a little fuzzy on the details of how I managed it.
finally
I had an awful time of trying to use my stock ROM with ST AT&T; I damn near lost my mind.
Most threads fail to mention (or as a newbie I couldn't decipher) that a custom ROM is the way to go, and oh so amazing.
SS slot 2, changed a few lines in build.prop including my default network to WCDMA preferred (which I could not do in stock), easily added APN using the ST Data Settings app, and it is going pretty good so far. The only problem I am experiencing is the absence of my car dock, but that is a whole 'nother thread!
Thanks for all y'all's help! Very brilliant!
I have rooted my phone, and am trying the radiocomm hack, but, radiocomm is not recognizing my phone. how can i get radiocomm to recognize my device is connected?
