replacement phone app - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i know there is a problem with the delay on the 2.1 stock (.5 and .6) and most of the custom ROMs with the phone app.
is there a replacement app that could be used?
not the dialer or the contacts but the actual phone app.
any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong (it's very possible), but I'm pretty sure that's all handled on the kernel (or similarly deep) level. It's not a problem with the way the apps handle getting a call, but rather the way the phone itself handles it. Run a logcat while getting a call and you'll see that it recognizes the call almost immediately, but the phone is trying to do so much that it just kind of gets confused...

Will do. Seems as though its a big issue but no one has a fix yet.

Photo Gallery Freeze

My phone freezes at times when i open the image gallery.
Just to give more info on the freeze: The phone becomes unresponsive (but if i have music playing, it will continue), after some time, the phone seems to restart, but not in the traditional sense. Like the lock screen will comeback, it will say no service...until it finds service, it will scan the SD cards...but the touch screen will remain completely unresponsive. If i hold the power button, the power off, flight mode and silent mode context menu will appear but i can't do anything because the screen wont response to my touch. The only way i can get it working again is removing the battery, which is annoying.
Is anyone experiencing this issue with the image gallery?
Also, when i send an image to my friend (BB user) it takes like 20 hours before he receives it, this isnt an exaggeration. I sent an image at 3pm, he got it at 8am. This is an issue for me. The image size was less than 200kb.

Im using the rogers stock rom. (Android 2.1), normally i would just use a different gallery, but honestly i really like the one the phone came with. The phone is rooted and i applied OCLF. Other than that, there are no major modifications.
I have the same problem, it used to just lag a little bit but just now it completely froze. I had to take out the battery to restart. Should we be worried?
Any help from experienced users would new wonderful! Thanks!
same problem, rogers stock 2.1
now that i know i am not the only one with this problem, i think there may be something wrong with the rogers rom itself, and not my phone.
About 10-20% of the time it will just fail to load the gallery and freeze on me forcing a hard restart

Yea this has been a huge problem for me and a real annoyance. Im just waiting until my exams are over so i can figure out how to get off stock rom and flash something we a working gallery. Its embarrassing when ur trying to show off ur phone and it freezes just by opening up the gallery

[Q] Quick question

When I turn off my phone because the memory gets real low even when i auto kill my apps or my phone simply dies due to low battery, i turn it on but somehow it resends a bunch of txts to my friends that i was txting with. I was wondering if this happens to anyone else and if there is a way to fix it? Thanks in advance
Which rom are you using?
I get what I call ghost notifications of text messages kind of the same way. I'll look at the message which clears the notification bar. When I turn off my phone at night and then back on in the morning I sometimes get a notification of the message I have all ready looked at. I think this was a problem in the international 2.2 roms hence the update to 2.2.1.
Oh, I'm using Cognition 4.1.1 ..... for now.
I am using the stock one. I haven't messed with the phone at all.
Oh ok thanks, to me it only happens when i turn it off it resends txts that i previously sent. It's kind of annoying not a big deal but gets old after a while. Thanks
I never had this problem with all ROMs I flashed. Or possibly I never noticed that happening. But I have to say that sometimes I still get double notifications for messages I have received previously after rebooting. personally I don't know why. I've tried cognition, phoenix, serendipity and now on firefly.

What do you mean by "I turn off my phone because the memory gets real low even when I auto kill my apps"? Are you checking how much ram is free and shutting your phone down because of that?

well when my phone gets to a certain point as far as RAM it will turn off on its own. kind of like it resets itself i guess or i will turn it off myself and turn it back on otherwise it will be really slow and that's when the resent text message thing happens.

That doesn't sound right at all.. Android is supposed to try to fill up the ram with the most recently used apps for quick access, but still manages a pool of free ram to keep things running smoothly. It should never get to a point where it "runs out" or shuts itself down, or even causes the phone to 'run slow'.
If you're running the stock official KB1 rom, then it's probably some app you're running that launches a very poorly coded service in the background that is eating all of your resources. You can try using a program called "Watchtower" that will tell you how much memory and cpu cycles each program is using to debug your situation, or simply uninstalling suspect apps until the situation improves.
Also, what batch is your phone from? You can find the build number under the battery, it's a four digit number like 1007, 1008, etc. Some of the earlier batches have a random shutdown problem affecting them (hardware defect), and if yours falls into the range of affected phones, you can go to an ATT store and they'll replace it with a new one.

Let me try the watchtower app first and I'll see if that helps me find the issue.
My build number is 1012, do you know the range for the ones affected by it? Thanks for your help

I don't know the specific range, but I remember hearing that if you bought your phone before Nov 2010, you were eligible for a replacement. I could be wrong though.. I think there's a thread about it in the general section.

[Q] Is there anyway to get the notification LED to flash for more than 5 minutes?

HI everyone.
I have just owned my Incredible S for a week now and theres one big issue with it that makes me crazy.
And it´s the notification LED and that it stops flashing after 5 minutes.
I have been able to get around this problem for missed calls and recieved messages after rooting my phone and install the app lightflow.
But the problem still remains with reminders. I use an app called "COL Reminder" and I can´t get that to flash the way I want. I want it to flash until I unlock the screen.
Can you guys help me?
Is there an other app maybe or can you get in to the scripts handling the LED in the phone and do some changes?
My phone is (as I wrote) rooted and I run the stock 2.3 Gingerbread ROM.
Please anybody??
Miui Rom maybe can do that.

Unfortunately not.
i remember having this issue with Hero as well.
In fact HTC got back then saying that this is a hardware issue & the programming is such that the blinking is for 5 minutes or until the user checks the notification, whichever comes first.
The LED type in the Hero is very similar to the IncS.
not sure why!

Notification delay issue?

I have a delayed notification issue on my device. Whether I'm on stock version or using ARHD, the issue is still there. Even I used an app called push notification fixer, it still can't help. So anyone can help me pls??
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I'm also having this problem, I've already tried the AT&T version and the US unlocked version, on stock software and ARHD. It happens with all of them. Power saver is off, phone set to keep data connection even when screen is off.
So far I've noticed that Whatsapp, Gmail, and Google Voice are affected. I wake up in the morning and have to go to each app and refresh to get my messages, and sometimes even during the day I get the notifications hours late.
It's driving me nuts and ruining an otherwise fantastic phone!! I'm surprised there's not that much talk about this on the forums.....Any ideas?
Notifiction Delay only using data
first of all, i have a HTC One (available to use on all networks) with delayed notifications whilst the phone is sleeping, ofcourse ive searched and selected all the correct settings but unfortunately i still get delays.
However, this problem only occurs whilst using the data package, i dont get this problem on wifi even if the phone has been sleeping for hours, the problem is only whilst using the data provided by etisalat. (the data works fine whilst using the phone, but when the screen turns off it just seems disabled) Ive tried multiple sim cards, still the same problem.
I contacted HTC, i hard resetted my phone and adjusted the necessary settings i was instructed to, but no use, they told me to send my phone for repair using the warrantee, the repair shop said it was a feature of the phone and ALL HTC ONE PHONES HAVE THIS PROBLEM, i then emailed and complained to HTC customer support and they agreed with the technician saying it was a permanant battery saving feauture and a new device would not be sent to me,
so, is this true? does everyone experience this issue?
I found an app 'Push Notification Fixer' , it requires rooting the phone , do you think it will solve my problem?
any help on how to proceed would be much appreciated,
thank you
Problem solved. U can download an app called Push Notifications Fixer. Use this app and everything should be fine. Btw change of firmware also solves this most probably, not confirmed.

List of bugs on Note 3

I love this device but it has a couple of issues. I thought it would be helpful to list bugs in this first release of the software. I'm not rooted. These are mine:
Haptic feedback on menu keys sometimes stops
Air Command has stopped working. Its intermittent.
Sound controls sometimes don't allow me to make changes (right now I can't change notification sound level)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I myself have not encountered the haptic-feedback, air-command, or sound-control problems.
The one problem I've found is that Google Hangouts won't do video calls via LTE. It pops up a message saying a WiFi connection is required instead. (The Note 2 used to have the same problem on ATT, but it was fixed about a month ago.)
Another annoying bug is that AVRCP 1.3 does not seem to be implemented properly.
Song/Media metadata does not get properly sent via bluetooth to receiving devices. This has been seen as not working at all to song information getting stuck on display and not changing when tracks change.
I'm definitely looking forward to a big fix for this one.
This has been seen on ATT, Tmobile, and Sprint variants.

You have to edit some code to allow video call on LTE. changing a 0 to a 1. Google to learn how. Can be fixed

But the workaround requires rooting, doesn't it? (For me, the disadvantages of rooting at this point outweigh the benefit of Hangouts via LTE.)

Whats the disadvantages to rooting?
The only bug that I have noticed is sometimes when I get an email notification from the stock email app, it appears in the status bar and then disappears within a couple of seconds. I've seen this a couple of times.
I guess we have to expect some issues since this is the first device out of the box with 4.3.
I really wish they would allow the widgets on the lock screen while having a pin for security. At least read only.

Some of the disadvantages are:
* If I screw it up, I could brick the phone, or at least make the phone unavailable while I have to spend a lot of time fixing it.
* Rooting will wipe my existing setup, requiring more time than I want to spend to re-initialize my phone.
* There may be security, stability, or performance problems that have not been discovered yet.
* If my phone exhibits any subsequent problems, even if they're not actually due to rooting, I won't have any easy way of knowing whether that's the case.
* I don't know whether rooting may interfere with subsequent OTA updates (unless I go to the trouble of flashing back to stock first).
* No one can rule out the possibility that rooting will void the phone's warranty.
screen and sound
has anyone noticed occasional brightness flickering? I thought it might be adaptive display or something like that, and i disabled it all, but I still see it.
also, I'm not sure what in the world happened, but my phone started randomly playing music. the music player didn't open, I had air gestures, off, and it wasn't ringing. I turned off wifi and the music stopped. In fact, i don't even think I have the song that was playing saved to my phone.

Rooting any device voids warranty. It does not trip the flash counter or Knox. Just flash back to stock or supersu unroot.
As for the other stuff, no issues here. Phone is as stable as it was on stock. Runs even better because debloated it myself.

Using Google Music over headphone aux cable, setup eq the way you want, listen for a sec and slide the track knob to another part of the song. The eq turns off. If you go in to the eq settings, it is showing on. Toggle off and on and you will hear the difference.

I don't have any of the bugs being list here. However, when I have S Voice on for wake up when the screen is off, it will sometimes turn on randomly even when nothing is said. Happened in a movie theater for me and it was embarrasing. That feature is now off.

Anyone else having problems using whatsapp with pen window?
It seems that when I minimise it from a conversation I then can't open it again or move the icon around on the screen.
Works normally if I press back to the conversation window first though
S voice gets weird with me too. Had it in hands free mode and it kept telling me something about my safety while it simultaneously read my text out loud. it kept getting stuck in that loop for any new messages.

Screen brightness and
Screen brightness issue: occasionally, when brightness is set low (not auto), when phone is turned on, screen turns on at full brightness for a split second then go to low setting level. Happens about 25% times.
Haptic feed back when screen off: after I turn screen off, if I move phone, I get a haptic feed back once. Doesn't repeat until I turn screen on and off again.
Edit: this is caused by 'smart alert'. Under Controls -> Motions. It vibrates when you pick up the phone and you have a notification and the screen is off to let you know there is something you missed.
