Installed Cognition, failed, restored with Odin to AT&T 2.1, Need help getting Rogers
Hi, I'm trying to get my phone to go back to Rogers default firmware, and I flashed with Odin (thinking that would work) but it gave me AT&T firmware, and now I'm stuck with a Captivate that doesn't connect to data and isn't running the proper firmware. I've been trying for hours to fix this to no avail, and I'm just about ready to throw this phone in the garbage. Any step-by-step guides (with the tools on how to use them) on how to restore Rogers original stock rom and firmware?
I'm assuming you used the one-click Odin downloader? That will indeed restore you to a stock 2.1 AT&T firmware.
Find and download Odin (not the one-click version), then use it to flash the following firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9096976&highlight=firmware#post9096976
That should get you back to a working phone. Mind you, you will still have the AT&T splash screen upon boot.
Hey, thanks for the response. Is there any way to get rid of the AT&T splash screen and put it back to the rogers one?
I have gotten back all of the Rogers default settings (including most of the splash screen) but I still don't have a Data connection. Do you know anything to fix that?

nope, until there is a Rogers ODIN dump that can flash a rogers param.lfs (where this image is stored) you are stuck with that AT&T splash screen. The one-click tools are designed for use with the i897 and flash a new param.lfs which can't be modified on the phone (LGSilva did some tampering with it, but I wouldn't personally recommend it). You would need an ODIN image (or possibly a bmlwrite/redbend restore) to get this back.
Either way, you would need a dump of the original param.lfs from an untouched Rogers Captivate to get this back. as the only image I know of right now doesn't contain that, you are SOL until someone finds one that does contain it.

go to AP Settings and enter the following:
Name: Rogers
Address: internet.com
user: wapuser1
password: wap
done.
Hey, thanks for the speedy reply. With those settings I can connect to the Edge network, but I still can't get 3G. Any insights?
I fixed my own problem. Thanks so much for the help! I couldn't have fixed it without you guys!

I need a bit of help with this. I have a Rogers phone, I currently have the AT&T ROM. So I want to get back to rogers.
Which of the files linked above should I use? Firmware or ROM?
Then what do I do in Odin? Get into download mode, unzip the Firmware file, and select the TAR file under "Phone" in odin and hit start? Is this correct? I dont' select any other files in Odin?
Thanks.

You download both.
-First you unzip the firmware and flash the .TAR file with Odin and with the PIT file. (Use the PIT file from this Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439&highlight=Odin3)
-Open Odin, plug your phone in download mode, select the pit file as PIT and tar file as PDA, Click start
-Let it reboot and then copy the ROM onto your internal sd.
-Download and install ClockWorkMOD, open it and choose Install ROM from SD.
-Select your ROM on the root SD and flash.
If you want to get rid of the AT&T boot screen use this procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849789

Thank you so much. That's exactly what I needed. I'm familiar with Clockwork, it's just Odin that's been screwing me up.

Hi everybody
I need help,I flashed a rom some days agò,I wanted to change it and installed new zip file in my phone,I did this operationcwd recovery)wipe hard reset;wipe cache;wipe kalvin;instal zip file from sdcard;chose zip file;I take the rom file;it seams to start, but every new zip files I have put inside my phone stopped the process with words installing updates, after that,I have to take off battery and reboot,so my question is:do I have to change the name of the new rom file in update.zip? It seams the system cannot find the update file,I don't change the name of the roms file in update,is this the reason why I cannot instal others roms?
nitr8's ROM will help
I can't tell what is going wrong for you.
It seems that you have flashed a custo/rooted/CWM kernel via Odin?
So you are able to flash with Odin?
Last week I wanted to Upgrade my girlfriends SGS and got stuck harder then ever before.
I used to flash JPM to get unstuck but this time nothing worked.
Flashed and flashed and flashed.. My girlfriend was on Insanity 0.99 and I wanted to put her on new Insanity 0.40 JPY.(OTA!!!!)
But I got stuck big time, Then I remembered that Nitr8 made a special fix rom.
This rom comes with root, busybox and CWM.
I flashed it with ODIN using a pit512 file and in one go all was working again.
Then I downloaded the ROM I wanted to install and put it on a Folder on the internal SD (I called the folder rom) then reboot in CWM, and flash your .zip file like normal ( no need to rename to update.zip)
just choose
- install zip from SD
- choose zip from sdcard
now browse to the folder containing your .zip file and that's it..(in my case this would be: rom)
This worked like a charm for me!!
No credits go to me if this works you should thank Nitr8 for all his realy great work... The stuff he makes is just awesome!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843019
or go direct to his site and go to rom and download insane.rar unzip and flash with odin (pit512) (I don't think I checked repartition) http://insanity.rollus.net/index.php?dir=rom/
You don't need to flash a nitr8 rom afterwords.. The roms he makes are extreme basic, all extra's like office, readers, gmail sync and so on are not in his rom.. You can add but this rom is I think to basic for you.. After fixing your sgs with insane.rar you should be able to flash anything you want using CWM..
Goodluck!! (credits to Nitr8)!
Stock 2.1 via odin, stock 2.2 via odin. hardcore's kernel via odin, ANYTHING after that.
Thank you for your answer and help,a friend of mine flashed the firmware with odin and then flashed androdena rom(the rom with pink wallpaper)this rom is great, well done and very fast, but it seams I cannot install others roms,I will try to do that with Odin,I have to lear how to use it before ahahah I'll let you know!
Thank you very much!
Hi,thanks for your answer,I did every passage before coming here, maybe it will better to flash with Odin....I don't know.
Sorry guys for being a noob.
Story is my tab is rooted and flashed with the OVERCOME RC 2.0 GOLD rom from following alterbridge's thread procedures. Beautiful rom, no complaints.
However the screen has been acting up lately with the finger held down and screen shaking issue.
Ive searched and searched and have concluded its a hardware problem.
I need to flash back to stock for warranty.
For being the noob I am, I've downloaded the stock files....but I don't know how to flash it back.
Attached is a picture of a .zip file of the files inside the zip. Do I use ODIN to flash back? What are the procedures? What file is associated with which box in ODIN? Sorry I just don't have a clue. Or do just throw this into my tab's SD memory and update from CWM recovery mode?...
Do I use superoneclick to unrooted after back to stock rom?
I just don't want to brick my tab...Thanks for any help...
The stock ROM should be a 2.2 FROYO, and the ROM I'm on right now is on Gingerbread...if this makes any difference...
Use this guide first flash with odin it tells you how to flash with odin at the bottom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763
and after flash whatever froyo rom you want make sure you got the one that shipped with your device if its going back for warrenty again flash with odin and your done.
Edit dont forget the thanks button if this hellped you .
Thanks for the link.
So i have the .pit file for the PIT section.
No need for phone and csc section i assume.
But for PDA section i dont have any files available? From my attached picture. i only have a data.tar.gz file. Im not sure what that file is? do i just rename it to .tar??? please help
Sorry not sure on them files i think you can use heidmal with those files do a search on here for that
Anyone???
What do I use? ODIN? HEIMDALL? I need help please.
From overcome gold you will have to re-stock to froyo. Which means a repartiton with pit file + phone + modem files. You will need odin for this.
I would suggest flash back to a safe froyo rom first - as per jutleys link above. Then flash back to your original firmware version.
From the pic above looks like you have unzipped the full.zip. For Odin You need the full zip in the pda section, modem zip in the modem and the pit file in the pit section. Download full zips from roto's link above.
Then check out roto backup thread (shows how to restore using heimdall / odin). As i havent flashed back to my original firmware yet, someone else could advise better. I am assuming for stock purposes you need to put the original stock firmware zip into pda section of odin and leave everything blank and then flash away.
Cheers

Thank you for your response. I'll work on getting back safely to a froyo rom.
As for the picture, it is a pic of the content inside the full zip already. Should i unzip and enter modem and pit according? But what goes into the pda section?

That pic is from a firmware from samfirmware? It has the bootloaders in it so be very careful as flashing bootloaders can cause bricks or be protected ones. As i said before, i think you flash the full zip in the pda section and leave the rest blank i.e no need to unzip.
But do so only after flashing using roto safe froyo rom.
As for the files above, It might be wise to take out the bootloaders then rezip & flash but i would wait on someone with a bit more knowledge just to confirm this.
As long as they are the original files for your firmware, you should be ok.
Thanks for your help ezynow.
UPDATE: I've successfully downgraded from Overcome Gingerbread to Overcome Froyo now.
Now it's just a matter of getting my head wrapped around this stock ROM right. The order, and where the files should go.
Anyone else would like to share their insight? This is the file I downloaded, and this is how it is presented to me. I just need someone to help me sort out what is what.
Thanks.
UPDATE #2: Tried re-zipping and converting to tar file. ODIN failed. Re-zipped into tar again without the data.tar.gz file because I don't know what it is, and failed again.
I don't know what to do anymore. How do I get this to work?
bump
anyone?
UPDATE #3: Tried loading the whole .zip file from CWM. No luck.
Who's your service provider?
I sugest look for another stock rom here that is in the correct format i am sure i seen a post showing all stock roms somewhere use odin
Link deleted. It mentions to use pit file + full zip in pda section . Then says out of date.
Also did you check rotobbackup method thread - use heimdall and flash individual files from your extraced zip files. Assuming you can avoid flashing bootloaders you should only be a soft-brick if anything goes wrong and download mode still available.
Forget about using cwm for anything stock related.
Sum1 who has reverted back to stock surely can help out here!
p.s what was your original firmware version?
I have succesfuly downgraded from gb overcome gold to arabic froyo using the file from samfirmware. First try resulted in stuck at samsung logo but I was expecting that due to the ext4 partition. A cache wipe and factory reset in recovery solved that problem. Also I observed when going to recovery that there were errors in red that are coming out complaining of access problem to certain files. Since I am able to boot I then proceded to format the internal sd. After that I again flashed using the same arabic fw. No problems so far even kies sees my fw as the latest.
Here is the procedure I followed-change the files according to your fw version

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I will try going to another stock firmware later this afternoon.
However, the firmware I really need is P1000MUGJJ7 (Bell's stock firmware).
The files I have in hand are apparently the files for this firmware, but how to restore it, I have zero clue. These we're sent to me by a member on this forum.
I think the member said that these were created from roto backup.
I have looked everywhere else for this firmware version but it's NOWHERE. Neither does samfirmware.com
So to sum it up, pretty much these are my only sources to play with, and just gotta make it work...
Please help and thanks again.

Please refer to the attached picture.
It's a pic of the contents inside the .zip file I was given.
Now I just need a solution as to HOW to use them.
Only the pit.pit file can be used.extract it and in odin load it under pit. then under pda load the whole tar file. then check repartition ,reboot and time.....start...

OK. So you are suggesting I take out pit file then CONVERT in someway the whole .zip file into .tar file for the PDA section, am I correct?
Now, I need a proper way to convert this file because I tried this using a converter I downloaded online. And after the conversion, the .tar files was double the size (over 400mb, original ~200mb). And flashing through ODIN using this new file didn't work. So what's the proper way to convert?
Far ago I have try to update to 2.3.4 nb0 file by flashing via stock recovery. I've tried to flash firmware.nb0 file but stock recovery reporting error and cant flash it. And then, I renamed firmware.nb0 to update.zip (just rename, didnt do anything more) and when I try to flash update.zip its worked. so now I'm running my device on 2.3.4 with no problem.
But now. I need to flash back to 2.2 but stock recovery cant do it. it cant do flash 2.2 nb0 file as a update.zip or firmware.nb0 file. I must use stock recovery to flashing because my usb hub doesnt work. so how do I flash back to 2.2 with stock recovery?
The error that stock recovery reported is the update is unsigned so its stoped.
ooooppp. could anyone help me?
Use SUTL3 program to load stock 2.2. You can search this forum for both.
Hi all,
I am trying install the stock rom P7310XXKJ4------2011 October----P7310XEUKJ4-----UK/Ireland on my P7310, via odin
It seems to be successful, and then reboots, but then gets stuck in a boot loop. I can access recovery mode and download mode. I have tried this twice, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance

Go to recovery and do a factory reset. This will delete everything but it should fix your problem.
Also check "F Reset Time" in Odin and repartition using a 512 pit file. This will avoid you some common errors.

Make sure you wipe data/factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache in recovery then flash this should work fine for you maybe even clear the cache's after flash too

Hijacking the thread to the same destination. I was throwing in the towel and about to start the exact same thread, but I'm sill stuck. After researching a bit and trying a couple of things, I seem to be making things worse, so I thought I'd bite the bullet and ask for help while I still can use Odin.
I had also tried to install stock over CM9 and ended up in a bootloop with the blue CM9 guy showing. If fact, I couldn't even shut the tab off, it would power on and re-bootloop. I could get into recovery or Odin mode. I did a factory reset, didn't help. Installing from recovery wouldn't work, as I didn't have anything left on it to install. I researched and the thread with the stock firmware says "Extract tar file from the ROM(remember to extract it till .tar or tar.md5, dont go deep).". When I use 7zip to extract the zip file, I don't have a .tar file, what am I doing wrong? If I take the unzipped file and compress them to a tar file, the installation fails. After reading this thread, I installed the GT89pitfile.pit from the toolbox, and now I'm stuck in Odin; if I try to go to recovery, the icon just flashes and won't go anywhere.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

I gave you a link in this post to a thread which contains all ODIN images. Select one image depending on your model (7300 is the 3G model whereas 7310 is the Wi-Fi only model) and then extract the .zip contents and there is your image. The PIT file, as I suggested in my guide, is to be used in conjunction with a .tar ODIN firmware image to Repartition the device in case something goes terribly awry and still, that's no guarantee it will be the ultimate solution. Redownload your desired image.
EDIT: Once you successfully flash through ODIN, in order to go back to stock you HAVE TO do a factory reset in the Stock Recovery menu. Note that you will lose everything including the SDcard contents.
My point is, when I extract the .zip file, there is no .tar file to flash.

My question is, have you downloaded the zip file from the link I gave you, and even redownloaded to make sure it wasn't a corrupted download?
