Awesome .. cache mate works perfect I was using another cache clearing app that didnt work bc it needed busy box.

AdFree causes a reboot of the phone, and doesn't update host lists.

Nothing to add here but I will test any app people are wondering about.

You can get spare parts from the market but it doesnt need root access. SOme of the newer ROMS, for the G1 atleast, had a spareparts where you could configure swap and cc. I dont know if thats the one he got working.

Would you tell me where to push the livewallpapers to?

I also tried the the meltus volume hack and that doesn't appear to increase the volume even after allowing SU. Now as for the live wall papers I installed a couple from the market and they all show up under the adw launcher without me pushing the files through.

Wifi Tether works, but...
Do we know if Wired-Tether works? I haven't rooted yet as I have found a method that works without root on my Ubuntu, but I've been having a hell of a time finding a free, user-friendly method for my wife's windows.

has anyone tried TA Utility?

I'm happy to hear that CacheMate works. I have the Slide but have not had any luck rooting it (I still don't believe it can be done ). CacheMate technically requires busybox so I'm not sure why it's working. I don't make direct calls to busybox but I know that it adds some of the some core functionality to apps like mine such as cp and mv. This is why some files managers specifically for root will not work without busybox.
I'm assuming a simpler root method will be available soon enough and ROMs everything else will be made available to get all the root apps working perfectly. If the Slide was mine and not my wife's, I would not have given up on trying to root it. Anyway, glad to hear CacheMate works and people are enjoying it on the Slide.

Chachemate is working for me as well.
AndroidAppCritic - One thing I did to get ADB to see the Slide in Recovery was format the memory card before I did anything. I left it in there the whole time too. That worked on two Slides. Pulling the memory card out before Fastboot saw it then popping it back in right before Recovery came up wouldn't work for me.
That is, of course, if that is the problem you were having.

I know it's off topic but believe me when I tell you that I've tried every possible suggestion. I own dozens of SD cards from 2GB class 2 to 16GB class 6 in every imaginable brand. I even tried my gold card from the myTouch. But apparently it really is possible. I guess I don't care as much since it's not mine.

apps2sd on stock froyo?

Has anyone found any apps that this works with or do we need to wait for all the devs to come out with new versions? All i checked wouldn't allow me to move them.

Every app has to be updated by the author. No way around it.
If your rooted you can just switch the toggle to 2 and all the apps can be moved over to sd and new apps install there by defaut. I'm not a real app whore having maybe 50 more or less but still, they are every last one on the sd.
No problem thankyou. Just making sure I was not doing anything wrong with it lol.

Try searching im almost positive that there is a tut on it but, You need to install the Android SDK and create a connection to your device with the sdk.
You can then run the ADB command from terminal(mac OSX) or CMD(windows)

anyone else having this problem?
i installed the ota from .zip directly over cyanogen 5.0.6 no wipe
sdcard is formatted fat32/ext3/swap
any help appreciated.
Is there an easy way to find out which of the currently installed apps have been updated to support FroYo's apps2sd?
There has to be a better way than to open Manage applications, sort by size and then click on on each app..

There's a free app on the market called "App 2 SD", it shows all apps that can be moved and moves them for you (that should be all of them
Visit this link from your phone or use Chrome-to-phone if you used the shell command above) if you're cool like that:
App2SD
[EDIT] Having the App 2 SD app running after using the command above will crash the apps!

[FIX] For 2.2 Market issues, use this mod - *Updated* with Stock Build.prop

For those of you having trouble seeing protected apps, I modified our fingerprint in the build.prop. What this does is spoofs the market into thinking its seeing a Droid 2 (with Froyo) It worked for me, let me know if it does for you.
1. Put build.prop into your AndroidSDK\TOOLS folder
2. Connect via USB.
3. CD (Navigate) in CMD to your tools folder
Mount your /system (adb remount) works for me
Copy and paste this
4. adb remount
5. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
6. adb reboot
To test if you need this before you push the build.prop fix, search the market for Us Bank. If only 2 or 3 show up, you are not getting the full market. After this fix, you should see 10 items listed when you search for Us Bank.
Hope this helps.
2.2 Market Fix Build.Prop -- WITH STAGEFRIGHT=TRUE
This can also be done via Root Explorer.
Edit: Here is a "clean" build.prop for those of you who do not want the stagefright fix (which breaks video playback) Sorry, I was not aware it did that. Thank you.
Non Stagefright Build.prop -- WITH STAGEFRIGHT=FALSE
For everyone flipping out about Birdmans tweet and you want the stock build.prop, here ya go
Stock Build.prop -- WITH NOTHING! STOCK!
You only need the stock one if you ever plan on doing a factory reset. But, you also cant do a factory reset if you have removed or renamed apps so I feel that should be mentioned. If you've done any modding and you are planning on upgrading, your best bet is to always use the SBF anyway. I dont think birdman realizes the panic he sets in with one little tweet. Factory resets suck anyway. But then again... "you decide..."
Thanks to Jcase for giving me the original idea way back when. I just basically applied his Eris Market Fix to work with our phones.
This created several problems for me.
First, the build.prop file is a read-only system file and doing a push did not work for me.
I had to copy it to my sdcard and then in shell:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
This created some really fubar'd effects on my network as I couldn't access the market from 3g. It more or less disabled my 3g network.
When I activated wi-fi, it worked fine, and did let me into the market.
I'm trying to put my original build.prop file back on, but I still have no 3g connectivity.
Update:
restored my build.prop and still no go.
update2:
tried clearing the 'cache' from reboot mode and even did a factory reset ... still no go.
I'm starting over with SBF, update, FROYO, etc.
I don't know for certain that this file hosed me, but I had not yet done any other system file issues. Either way, I would not recommend you follow my above instructions
Found a fix
I must say I take no responsibility if this causes problems but this worked for me. Do a search in the market for "Eris Market Fix." It was designed for the Eris but works just fine on my Droid X. I can see all the apps that didn't show up before. I haven't noticed any issues since applying this fix. You must be rooted for this to work, but I assume most everyone on Froyo already is rooted.

Secondly,
Hmm... Sorry to hear that but I HIGHLY doubt it was the build.prop that did this.

I would not recommend this. I have talked to 2 people so far who said their phone have gone in to bootloops using the Eris Market Fix. After all, it is for an Eris. Read the comments on the app in market. Lots of people are using it on the wrong phone and having problems.
Do yourself a favor and just use the build.prop in this post as it has already been tested in numerous forums with no problems whatsoever, if done correctly.
he was just explaining where the idea comes from i think... You'd have to be crazy to use the eris market fix app on a droidx, just simply edit the build.prop fingerprint line.
I just used the root explorer meathod and now it wont boot.
I downloaded the file.
renamed my build.prob to build.prob/bak
placed the new build.prob in the system folder
rebooted and now after the M screen it just goes to a black screen with the backlight lit. Wont boot up. Im learning adb so this may be a noob question but can I access adb if the phone wont boot all the way up. That way I could change the build.prob back
Edit Delete Post: Im just retarted haha .prop not .prob :/
Could you plz give us some details on doing this with root explorer. Thanks
Prolly simple but I did try moving current build file then renaming and pasting yours without success doing us bank search. Also rebooted cleared cache and market history prior to search. Appreciate any help with doing this via root explorer.

I took a brief look at each file and I really don't understand how I got into trouble. As I said, I had not yet started doing any mods, just trying to install a few apps.
While I'm no computer or phone neophyte, I don't profess to be up to speed on Android yet. I do typically read through instructions pretty well, and search out multiple sources/explanations so I have a better 'understanding' of what I'm doing, rather than just "parrotting" the steps.
Having said that, I would like to know the difference between using 'adb remount' and the instructions I used in my first post. Is that just the difference in doing this via a shell command and not? ie, they perform the same action, just from a different starting point?
As for the Eris file, I did download that and all seems to be OK right now.
Sorry ahead of time for a possibly stupid question but I just wanted to be sure. Do you have to be rooted to do this fix?
Yes, it requires an edit to a file that you can only be edited when rooted

Silly question but is the Non Stagefright file edit like the first one so the Market is fixed if you use either of the first 2 posted files. Just use the non-stagefright one.
Just like the post says, stagefright breaks HD video playback for SOME people. However some people dont care and just want higher quadrant scores, so they use the stagefright=true build.prop
Use the =false version for better stability.
Thanks for the reply.

Market update unsuccessful?

I am unable to download/update new apps and existing apps via the market because i keep getting an error that says unsuccessful download. I flashed over the new 2.2.6 market into my phone and i still get the same problem. It turns out that only apps that are in the sdcard are affected, and moving them back into the phone will finally allow them to be updated with no problems.
I tried everything i could find on the internet, clearing cache/data and stuff like that, but they dont work. One method that does work is a factory reset but i dont wanna lose my stuff right now. Usually when i get this problem i'll just wait out a few hours and try again but i had this problem since last night and i also read about people who had them for over a month!
Is there any fix to this? Or is the market just broken? Running on CM6.1-N1
cmon 56 views and still no answer? I know many people have encountered this problem before. Is there any solution to this?
Probably because there's 56 threads on the same subject...

1. Open Terminal Emulator on the phone
2. Type su to activate SuperUser
3. Once the $ sign turns to # type in the above code
4. That should do it
And BTW - it's smdl2tmp1.asec (with the letter L before the 2) not smd12tmp1.asec (with the number 1)

Oh, god no. My phone and pushing are not a good combination.
Can't connect my phone using ADB.
When I want to start up my pc and my phone is connected, it just freezes at the Splash screne until I pull my phone out. Then it boots normally.
Yeah that's probably because it's odex'd. I don't really remember on wich one I tried. If I'm not mistaken it was on Clemsyn's Final Froyo Build.
Downloaded it somewhere off Megaupload. Got the link from some video on YouTube.
I've managed to odex the updated market, and use Terminal Emulator to transfer it to my /system partition overwriting my original market, and it seems to work. Granted I had a gapps FC at boot, but restarted without a hitch.
So far no other FCs, and Market is fully working. Though not sure how many apps I still have available. :-/

same here on polaris with scoot's Kernel With Separate Cache Partition.
also no dialog to choose between charge only/hard drive/etc when connecting to booted pc via usb.
adb does work though, just make sure the drivers are installed on your pc, connect and wait for >120s before calling "adb wait-for-device". once your prompt reappears you are connected and ready for e.g. "adb shell".
use "adb kill-server" and "adb wait-for-device" when you get disconnected (not exactly stable) - i use WiFi Keyboard and WiFi File Explorer from market instead.

[Q] Rooting just won't work

So I have the GT-S5830, and I have some pitiful 8MB of internal storage left. To fix this it appears I have to root the phone (to get all the junk pre-installs out of there); however every way I'v tried has resulted in the installation itself being successful, but still not root access. I'v tried several methods including the main guide in the development section of the forum.
It's an Australian phone, locked with Optus, Android version 2.3.6
Baseband V. - S5830XWKT3
Build Num. - GINGERBREAD.XWKT7
Would anyone know what I could be doing wrong; or even better write an idiot-proof guide which should work?
Thank you in advance
Not quite sure here but in order to root you need to have more than 8mb of storage as rooting installs Busybox,SuperUser etc. You need more storage mate. Try deleting some stuff you don't need or use and try again.
Edit: I heard somewhere that in order to install an app you need to have TWICE the amount of storage as the app takes up. E.g. App is 10mb then you need 20mb free. Never had low storage so I'm not sure how true this is.

Thanks mate. Superuser and the testing app usually install fine (well their icon is there and they run fine), it's just that they don't do anything because I still don't have root access.
However I will do it again with more space (I don't know what i'll delete, pretty much everything is pre-installed bloat) and if that works I'll let you know.
