Swype Beta *Official* - Touch CDMA Android Development

Swype is going to be officially released as a public beta tomorrow.
http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/15/want-swype-yes-you-do-get-it-tomorrow-for-android-phones/
It will be available here tomorrow (6-17)
http://beta.swype.com/
Apparently this will only be available for a couple of days.
ONLY FOR HVGA

Their page must be getting hammered. I time out everytime I try to register.

that makes me think that they're not even making the page live until tomorrow.

It tried twice, gave me an error. I tried fifteen minutes later, and it worked Looking forward to an email!

I started the download and got "does not fit this devices screen..."

same thing here.

Its only for hvga and wvga, so you'll need to use a 320x480 version of android

is there something wrong with me? I cannot sem to get my vogue to use swype as the keyboard... Any suggestions?

are you using hvga resolution?

I got it running finally. I was using 320x480, I just didnt seem to know how to change the input method. Still I cannot get it to read my swypes...

same here
its not reading the swypes at all
as a regular keyboard though it works fine...

does anybody know if swype works on 320x428?

I have Swype on my motorola cliq xt.. works fine? Definitely doesn't seem like a beta.

SlideIT
I've tried Swype, SlideIT, & ShapeWriter on the Vogue 240x320.
SlideIT and Shapewriter are the only ones that work with 240x320. They work great, there's a new version out today. It finally doesn't look ugly, very functional, I haven't had any issues.
mobiletextinput.com/Product/SlideIT/Android/download.php
(I can't post links, sorry it's not click-able)
Correction: As my2sense has informed us, ShapeWriter does work and it's amazing. I couldn't find it on the Market though, had to find it by other means.

WOW slideIT does work really well!

I know that Shapewriter works on 240x320 since that's what I'm using now. I played around with SlideIT and didn't really liked it but I can't remember why now, lol. It was a few months ago so I might have give SlideIT another try.

i can't seem to get this working. It installs and everything works fine, except when I go to "swype" something the tracer is there, but it just beeps at me. It works just fine tapping the letters, but nothing more than that.

I stand corrected. When I tried Shapewriter previously it didn't quit fit, I figured it was a resolution thing, I must have gotten the wrong version of something. Shapewriter is amazing, much better than SlideIT.
Nice to see we have two available options now.
I've fixed my post

Shapewriter does not show up in my market... I'm running 480 btw

swype, or swype-like keyboard

ive been using swype for a while, but it keeps ending its trial period and says to upgrade ( or something along those lines )
is there a fully working version of this or another swype-like keyboard available that works?
Here, this version wont ever end.

Yes, You can try SlideIT.
Available in the Market and works very much like "Swype" - in fact, I prefer SlideIt, which seems to accommodate for the eccentricities of my texting technique better than Swype...

Yeah, its been modded. It'll never end. I've been using it for weeks, maybe 8? It wont end.
I've tried this apk but i still get the "your trial has expired, please upgrade" dialog box. Any other leads on how to 'fix' that issue? I've already wiped my phone and reloaded Plane Jane v2 but i still get the same error. Thanks.

Realistically, your options are...
1. For an Eris, you want an HVGA version. Since Swype is commercial, although still beta, files/threads/posts come and go depending on content. We might as well not make the lives of the staff here more complicated by posting material that they are ultimately obligated to remove. Use google.
2. SlideIt mentioned above. Seems to get decent reviews. Like Swype, it has quirks that you will become familiar with as the system is used. If you're not in the Swype beta, and you can't locate a functioning tweaked apk floating out there, this is likely your best option at the moment.
3. The Swype beta is closed, but it appears that you can register there to get in line if it reopens. Frustrating solution I know.
None of those options are great, but some are better than others depending on your own knowledge base.

New versions of Swype available on my blog at
Have BOTH HVGA and WVGA versions on there. Just look for the swype article
Just throwing this out there. I did not waste my time checking out ultra keyboard. It has a swipe feature as well as multi-touch. I swipe in portrait and multi-touch in landscape. Exactly what I was looking for. Lots of customizing options. You can make it look pretty much however you want. Lite and paid versions in the market. Well worth the money, IMHO.
Slideit is great but I'm having one problem and I don't know if anybody else is having the same issue and thats the voice to text. I can use it for the first time texting somebody but if I try using it again for the same person it won't work. It'll record but it won't text it out for you not unless I go to my contact list and pick the same contact again then it'll work.

Decided to take a peek at Ultrakeyboard. Agreed. Well worth the cost (under $3).
If you have a hankering for trace typing, are locked out of the Swype beta or simply don't want to play the expiration dance game that they insist upon, want something supported and available in the market, this is a very nice option. Very configurable (can be a plus or minus depending on user). Dictionary management seems better on a quick look. Highly recommended by me as well.
B
Ultra Keyboard has become the only keyboard I use. I have it set for trace in portrait and regular multi touch in landscape. You can even use any other Keyboard's theme or create your own.
Im also searching for the ultimate tracing style keyboard as i hate the traditional typing method.
To date i have tried Swype (very average and overated however the new version 3.5.83.26516 is much more accurate). Also there are nice skins out there too.
SlideIT: Great keyboard and i believe is faster than Swype. Can also learn custom words and phrases that you commonly type. ie/ swpe 2 letters that you teach it to replicate an entire sentence. More language support as well.
Shapewriter: no longer supported but if you find the APK floating around, it is by far the most accurate in my opinion and ive used all the ones ive mentioned for months. It looks dull but man is it accurate and fast. smile icon right on the main screen as well which i like. Easy to learn words etc, very no frills but extremely accurate.
FlexT9 Input: They have brought out shapewriter with this release. Also great keyboard in that its very accurate, moreso than Swype etc but Shapewriter has great edit word capability. ie/ just type fast and then select anywhere in the word to get the word suggestions which FlexT9 doesnt have to date.
Ultra keyboard: as others have mentioned, very customisable, not bad. I question the dictionary though and this reduces its accuracy which Shapewriter has otherwise great potential, there is nothing you cant customise.
TSwipe Pro: Only drawback is its dictionary, many words dont exist so its just not as fast as Shapewriter but excellent features, just like Ultrakeyboard. You can customise anything, looks great, great features and one of my favourites but at the end of the day it needs to be accurate and fast as well.
Can anyone else think of anyother sliding/tracing/swping style keyboards, im always on the lookout for one that just excels in every area which im yet to find (yes being picky). Wish one of the keyboards had a combination of them all
I add another vote for Ultra Keyboard. I think Swype was a bit more accurate in guessing and had a better dictionary, but I was sick of dealing with Swype not sticking.
REALLLY dumb question.... but what is swiping in terms of kbd swipes?? I get the swipe up/down and left right on screens and in apps but when typing?? Confused and want to understand.... laughing welcome .

Swype for rooted Sprint Hero 2.1

Is there any way of getting Swype on a rooted HTC hero from sprint? All of the ones i have downloaded have trail expired.
Go to themes and apps, I believe on the 2nd page I have a thread with a swype that has not expired.

Getting the latest version of Swype is hard to come by. I've searched for the latest beta and no one seems to have it, or if they do post it, it's yanked off line pretty quickly.
From what I've gathered, Swype is trying to position themselves into including the app as a default keyboard for as many upcoming Android phones as it can. Having a contract like that will net them a heap more money than just releasing the app into the Market. So they've really been on top of shutting down any non-sanctioned copies of the latest version.
I like the Swype keyboard and hope to use it again one day, but in the meantime, I've just been using SlideIT. It's a decent enough app that mimics Swype, though it's a bit more non-forgiving of sliding over incorrect keys. Just takes some getting used to I suppose.
I had the same issue, and then gave up on Swype and installed SliteIt. I've actually found that I prefer SlideIt over Swype after getting used to it. The hint line and other UI features are more intuitive.
swype is pretty easy to find if you now where to look. just google it with some common file sharing terms and you'll find it. the current version im pretty sure is 2.4.44, at least thats what im rocking.

better keyboard

I wasn't quite happy with the stock keyboards that came with vegan or tent lite so I went searching for something else... I have better keyboard on my phone so I decided to download it on my tab. I ended up getting some errors on tnt but it works great on vegan. It is free to try now, but you gotta pay for the options to be enabled. Gonna check the version and see if I can find the full working version for us. If there is more keyboards you think I should try, lmk
Update: I do have the key and app. What would be the best place for us gtabbers? I know mediafile works in dolphin but is there an universal site where everyone can see them? I plan on putting some packs together
found
I have set up a new sendspace account and will be using it until I find something better. Currently sendspace has an app on the market that lets me upload anything
Dolphin only lets me upload pics/music/videos ATM
key:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/kvg8lm
bk 8 (gingerbread version)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/lu09gh
added links
What makes it better?
Interested and willing to try but I would like a bit more information.
Thanks!
+1 thanks for your efforts but, more info?
I have one keyboard that auto corrects but no sound, and one with sound but no auto correct, so I'm very interested in something better....
Brought to you by the happy little droids in my G tab.

edit: t9 is awesome, and the sound works
install the key first then the main. it will guide you through the rest.

+1 on Thumb Keyboard. Simply the best layout for a 10" device available for android devices at this time.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
I have come to like the keyboard from notion ink. I really like the fact it has arrows on the layout. It does take a little getting used to, no lines between the letters.

Thanks Clyde for reposting it. I'm looking for a lot of beta testers Feedback, suggestions, bug reports etc are very welcome.
Btw. Take notice of the "known issues" list. Also, if the keyboard behaves strangely after installation just reboot the Xoom.

Okay, I'm going to install it now and start banging on it
I think this will take a little getting used to but it installed properly right away, I enabled it in the settings and then switched to it and said hello to some people in #xoom on irc.freenode.net
Anything in particular that needs to be tried out?
I have been using thumb keyboard since I got my wifi zoom on the release day, just installed the beta. Will use it and see what I can find. I do like the new location for the .com button. And the multi touch is pretty sweet.
Sorry for the newb question, but how does multitouch help this keyboard? I've been using the regular thumb keyboard and it works fine?
nevermind I got it now
Thanks op working great on landscape enjoying my xoom even more!
2 questions:
Is this working on the gTab bc I would like to get a feel of it for when I get my xoom bc i am currently a swype user and xoom has no swype
is this available in the market?

ATM it doesn't work properly with the gtab yet but heard the dev is working on it.
The one on the market is the old one I think I used the one the op linked.
I thought that I would have trouble not using an android without swype (tried swift key too) but this keyboard is amazing and feels more secure holding my xoom with 2 hands when typing rather than holding with one hand and swyping with the other. But who knows what swype might bring but for now this will be my main keyboard.

Cool, I will be checking it out.
Absolutely love the new layout and functions. Much much better than the one in the market. Love the Shortcuts feature, makes loging in that much easier. Can't wait for full version.
@appelflap: I'm loving the new beta. Multitouch is a very welcome addition! I appreciate all the work and creativity you've put into this app - it's made my XOOM a real pleasure to type on. Hope the market sales are treating you well.
@appelflap Keypress sound is not working on my Xoom with the beta. Checked to make sure it was turned on. Still no sound.
Nice! Is there a tab button? I don't know if this is expected behavior but the long-press (secondary keys) don't do anything when caps or caps lock are on.
@appelflap. False alarm. Rebooted and sound is back.

It is working, but in this beta only the default Xoom keypress sounds are implemented. These are loud enough when you lay the Xoom flat on the table so the speaker can reflect them. But are hardly to hear when you hold the Xoom in your hands.
In the final release the sounds of the current market version will return. These sounds are a lot louder.

@ all Just released a update of the beta, with some fixes and some small additions.

KeyBoard?? Write instead of type??

is there a keyboard app where you can actually write instead of typing?? example....there is a full keyboard but there is also a small box where you can draw/write the letters and it will go onto the screen as if u texted it.

graffiti for android is almost exactly like graffiti used to be on palmOS. It's not hand writing recognition, but it is pattern for letter recognition.

It works for me but I wish it could just be openned like a regular app, instead on being a keyboard replacement.
