Hi
I have the beta version of Froyo (FRF50) and I can't play the videos I record with the stock camera app on my PC.
I can play all the pre-Froyo videos, just not the new ones, except when recording with the "MMS profile"
Any ideas on how I can play them using FFDShow and Media Player Classic? (I don't want VLC or any other player.)
Thanks

vlc plays everything, transcodes, streams, AND plays the video just fine, but you don't want it. good luck !

I'm not running froyo, can you link an example video to debug?
PS are you running the 720p hack?

The funny part is that the "so perfect" VLC doesn't play the audio, just the video.

No, all stock.
But nevermind, I just made it work.
I activated the internal MP4/MOV filter from Media Player Classic. It's not ffdshow, but it works.
I guess the codec used by the High Quality profile is not completely compatible with ffdshow, since it made the decoder run, but the image was all black.
Thanks anyway

Ok. I know there are several video players at the market. But not sure which is the best on the SGT.
I have VLC player on several of my machines at work and at home. It has become my #1 media player. Also, I have videos in these formats:
Extension: .mp4
- -video codec: H264 - MPEG 4 AVC (avc1) 480x192 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: MPEG AAC (mp4a) 48khz
Extension: .ogv
- -video codec: Xiph.org Theora (theo) 1280x544 @ 24 fps
- -audio codec: Vorbis Audio (vorb) 48khz
I need a player that supports those video formats as well as others like xvid, .mov & .avi
I really want VLC Player on my tab but I guess it doesnt exist. So whats my alternatives?

I am using vplayer. But no matter which one you use, you will hear a faint humming sound in the headphones. I thought the problem was with vplayer but I noticed it in other players too except the stock player which has some cool features like bookmark and lock screen which others don't have.
Vplayer for streaming via tversity and upnp. Stock player is good but is very picky
Oh and vlc for android is due very soon

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will try both mplayer and vplayer.
Well I read the VLC discussion forums and it seems that the developers are working hard but are still a long way from a release. By the looks of it perhaps by May or June we could have a stable VLC Player version at Android Market.

Video Player help???
Hey guys,
I have a Spring Galaxy Tab. I have it rooted and everything. I've been trying to find a all in one video player but none of them seems to be working correctly. I have several movies and videos I converted to watch on my EVO or my Zune HD, but now that I have my tab, I would like use them there too. All the videos are in Mp4 format with either a 320x240 res 600x480 (forget what the numbers are but its the level above 320x240).
Vplayer - starts up and immediately shouts down. The the icon changes and is grayed out with a little memory card icon on it. Then I have to uninstall it.
Divx Demo Player (Rock player with extras) - and it wont play anything. But it plays any format of video or movie on my Evo.
Rock Player - I have the new version from the site and it wont play anything
Seems like nothing is working.. Most times it gives a error saying the video formats are not supported. But I have all these video player on my Evo (Which I know is a completely different device) but I'm wondering if my TAB needs video codecs or something?
Any ideas?
Moboplayer

I will try Moboplayer. I'm still running the stock rom. Havnet tried to update to Gingerbread yet. Didnt think any of the roms would work since they are not based on the Sprint Tab.
I think I know what's wrong
Still getting the same errors on my movies. I converted them with iSkysoft Media Coverter for Mac.
Some of the movies I used the iPhone 4 profile.:H.264, 960x640 res, 30fps, 1500kbps birate.
And some using the iPod Touch mp4 profile: mp4 video codec, 640x480 res, 30fps, 2500kbps bitrate.
So now I see why they arent working, although both of those profiles work for the Evo and Zune HD,.
What is the complete best video format, res, frame etc... for the Sprint Galaxy Tab?
anyone have any suggestions for the best video viewing app for the gtab?
thanks!
Rockplayer.

I'd have to go with MoboPlayer. Much better UI than Rockplayer, and doesn't seem near as choppy. Plus you can have a library type setup too. Check it out, it's free on the market. Also, when I downloaded the one from the market, it had me download an older version when I loaded it up for the first time. The older version actually worked better for me.
I like mVideo player. It runs very smooth on the G tab and it does have a library system with the ability for you to download cover art.
vital
my preference goes to vital player..

I like this player too but for some reason my avi files and mkvs sound seems a little low. I've raised the volume to Max and its still a little faint. Mp3s sound fine and plenty loud, I've got the volume app and tried raising the sound there but little difference...any suggestions?
Mobo player for sure. It is absolutely amazing.

Is there anything out there that plays 720p or 1080p videos? I have tried rockplayer universal, moboplayer, mvideo and all of them were choppy.
BTW, I'm running VEGAn-tab ginger rc1

Is there some way to run those well in pre-gingerbread?

It depends on the file and how it's encoded. I've got a bunch of recorded TV that I've compressed to 720P mp4 files for my HTPC. They run about 1 Gig/hour. The only combination I've found that plays them on the GTab is the Calkulin+Clemsyn combo with Mobo Player. Even then I sometimes have audio sync issues. I'm sure I could transcode them on a different setting and get better playback, but that's where I am right now.

So is there a ROM that runs 720 and 1080 videos with hw acceleration ?
Guys, use the hardware encoder and make sure your video file is MP4 H.264 - I said this because I spent 1 weeks just for trying to get better player and turns out ---> It's all about hardware encoding/acceleration.
I'm currently using QQPlayer & VitalPlayer (both free version) and all my videos are 720x480 MP4 H.264 (this give me a good size of file 1.2GB each movie)..AND MAKE SURE YOUR PLAYER USING HARDWARE ENCODING rather using software encoding!
Video converter software that I've been using (IMO) - very low CPU usage, 12hr for 10 DVD movie conversion in MP4 H.264 720x480 with subtitles is WonderShare Video Converter Ultimate - pretty good converter and average CPU usage (all 4 core 3.3ghz) is 15% - repeat 15% all cores' CPU usage....
Tried another such Cyberlink Media Espresso, Movavi converter - LOL they are all running 100% CPU utilization
Good luck guys!
ughhh dude....You WANT IT TO BE 100% CPU utilization................
Unless its using Cuda or Open CL...
lol....
I found a new player I am trying out. arcMediaPro can be found on the Market. It has some great configurations but it too struggles with some HD movies. I use my GTab as a video player to hand my drivers to review their practice session as they get out of the race car. Just grab the microSD from the camera and put it in the GTab and launch the video and hand them the GTab. I do notice the audio has some syncing issues on some recordings but I am still going through the settings which are more complex than any of the other video players I have found. Here are a couple of links to these in-car videos..

Hi,
I want to play tv-show 720p MKVs on my droid 3.
However there's a problem.
The stock player plays MKVs fine (very smooth) but there's no audio.
I then tried rockplayer and moboplayer.
Both play the MKVs fine too in hardware mode, but again no sound
In software mode, both players produce sound however now the video is very choppy.
What player WILL play MKVs properly?
Thanks

Just tried it (neon version).
It has sound but like the others..very choppy and corruption too.
Read some good things about dice player. Tried the beta but it doesn't even show video (all corrupted colors etc).
I had the same problem with stupid-ass DICE player, big disappointment. Mobo is good for standard def, but not for hi-def/MKV.
The .MKV standard was invented by the guys at CoreCodec IIRC, which would explain how I used to be able to play 720p MKV's on my old 528MHz Tilt2 with CorePlayer; the player is naturally a master of its own codec... Do they make CorePlayer for Android? I bet it would totally play anything MKV better than any other player.

The thing is, it DOES play the MKV just great! It's very very smooth on hardware acceleration.. If they could just add the sound from software decoder mode..
All TV-shows use Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch audio. I know it's not the most simple, but how hard can it be to convert 6>2 channel and play this?
Hrm... Have you tried CorePlayer? I think they have a demo/trial version.
[EDIT] - Well crap-sticks. Looks like they don't have it for Android yet. It's $30 though, so not a cheap app anyways. It would have been a surefire method though...

but I tried a 1080p mov on d3, and it plays silky even with the default player.

the file you linked was removed (teporarily I presume) while I was downloading it.
It has the ac3 audio, i tested other ac3 6ch audio and they are working.
BTW, just in case, trans coding just the audio of a video file, with avidemux, is matter of a couple of minutes, practically on an actual pc, it takes less than copying the file on the phone.

I don't want to convert my files.. ALL tv shows are in this format.
It's not like its rocket science.. MKVs like this have existed for a long time and are used a lot. I don't see why it's not supported?

I am. I just ticked "show fps" in rockplayer. Im averaging 13fps in software mode. I find it very hard to believe your droid 3 magically adds another 11fps (nearly double!)
try qqplayer, it usually works for people incompatible with rock player
Sorry for starting a new thread, but I searched and couldn't find answers.
I'm trying to play 720p mkv files and they are all stuttering in my CM7 kang and etana kernel. Youtube 720p videos are ok, but the only way I could find to play my files was converting then to 640x480 (someone wrote that in some thread).
Is there any other way to play these files?

The built-in player (and all other players usig "hardware acceleration") works for some videos, for some others software-decoders work (mx player has a pretty good one).
BUT, you will not be able to play everything on this phone. "Hardware decoder" only supports up to a certain specification and "software decoding" is limited by the processor (overclocking might help a _little_ here).

Weird, I have same rom and kernel right now, plays ok even in HDMI the only problems this have is with 1080p with high profile, or some main (see bitrate), simple profile plays good.
when i play 720p mkv files i get a little stutter and audio-video sync problems. A 720p mp4 files plays perfectly though.
when video is playing it is only 2 or 3 pictures per secund.
It 's to laggy to watch.
Video decoder is not working (properly). That's why all videos lag.
It's said in the first or second post-I don't remember exactly- that video decoder doesn't work. This also means that you can't play videos you import in your phone (in the sd card for example) as well.I think.
Same happens to me

I was actually answering Vicky26 on importing video to sd card...mobo works fine there....for streaming if you somehow get the streaming link, there is an option in menu of the player for streaming. I somehow made it work using default manager, setting streaming default as mobo....copying link url by long pressing video in browser and re-pasting it in the browser.....so when you zoom in...you see two play video icons(arrow), one of them opens the video in mobo
Thanx!I actually switched back to my GingerDX because of some other problems I also had, but I will try this as soon as I install Paul's rom again
