Is CWM safe to use with the HTC Dream? the CM Wiki recommends amon_ra over CWM because of "memory issues and file corruption," yet developers like ezTerry are putting their HTC Dream/Sapphire ROMs in ROM Manager.
Little confused here. xD
Thanks.
amon ra is better for g1... most of the ROMs here are flashed from the recovery... if you want mod your own rom i think amon ra would be better
just my own opinion though
I used it for a long time and bought the premium app. Never had an issue for me. I haven't updated my G1 in a while but I think it still has CWM on it.
I also use it on my magic without an issue.
The question here is has two parts:
1) clockwork recovery
2) rom manager
regarding Clockwork recovery:
To the best of my knowledge there was never a problem with clockwork recovery. In many respects for many users its actually a better choice.
Pros of clockwork include:
* more accurate factory reset (including data on sd-ext and sdcard)
* Ability to low level (erase_image) format any partition from the menus
* accurate wipe of dalvik cache
* ability to flash files from anywhere on the sdcard via menu interface
Pros of ra-recovery
* easier to find the *.img files on the net (but you can find the clockwork files)
* better support for ebi1 (ie. rogers) dreams (actually the "magic" version of clockwork will work on ebi1 dreams but this is a bit counter intuitive)
* ability on the dream to enter the console for more advanced configuration (of course both clockwork and ra allow access to adb shell)
* slightly better looking interface
They both work at the end of the day.
Now regarding Rom Manager:
actually I'm quite pleased at how this has improved.. as I've not seen it ask me to re-install clockwork in the recent versions
good:
* allows easy access to download included roms (you can cancel the install after download if you wish to manually install)
* easy access to fix_permissions for those "scared" of the command line
* OTA updates for custom roms for those being properly tracked in rom manager .. That is if the dev can correctly create the javascript required
bad: (regarding the DS platfrom)
* I'm not sure if the new radio sapphire has a good option in Rom Manager
* Lables of recovers a bit confusing:
-- Dream for the HTC dream aka G1
-- ION/Mytouch for the ebi0 sapphire phones (32b magics or the 32a Fender/MT2.1)
-- Magic for the ebi1 sapphire (32a classic magic, also works on the 32b EBI1 rogers dream)
* occasionally fails to flash (if you have great dificulty enable erase recovery option, also sometime the first attempt fails due to superuser delay requesting root, last if it fails simply try again.. CM5 and sometimes CM6 had memory issues that caused increased numbers of failures) .. historically Rom Manager also forgot Clockwork was installed requiring re-flashing after rom installation.. but I've not seen this lately.
And not good or bad:
* requires a rom manager compatible recovery
Overall if you are careful about installing clockwork with rom manager the system works quite well in its current form.. Note for users of the 2708+ radio the Cyanogen mod enteries dont have the radio update.. get my 2.6.34.8 kernel or pershoots latest (and cancel the install) before installing the CM6.1 rom so you can switch kernels.. you will of course need to reboot into recovery and flash the kernel after cm6 fails to boot.
1st off I'm not a Dev, I'm using Ken's rom and added some mods and i thought i'd share it so some people can flash it and not have to apply patch/mods.

Don't forget to hit that "thanks"/Donate button or check out my APK(s) installer tool found in my signature :0)
Updated to version 1.51.
Added: Conversion of BMP images to ready-to-flash splash files on all 3 systems.
Modified: Graphical layout is now more in sync in all 3 systems.
Modified: All tooltips are now corrected and fully helpful :0)
Hi everyone.
This is a tool written in JAVA for easier flashing of the following partitions:
Radio, hboot/spl, recovery, system, boot, userdata, kernel and splash.
It can do much more, like:
Conversion of 24bit BMP images to ready-to-flash splash files.
Erase/wipe multiple or single partitions.
Reboot device either to system or fastboot.
Print of device info.
Flash of kernel.
Possible to run custom fastboot commands instead of using cmd/shell.
Flash of signed zip files (E.g. fastboot flash zip myzip.zip)
The above(Flash of signed zip) should not to be confused with flashing of custom rom files!
It's only meant for signed HTC roms with complete system layout.
Flash multiple files in one click by using custom folders and tags.
It's basically a GUI over most fastboot commands.
It works for Windows, Linux and Mac.
No need for Android SDK, the jar-file has all needed files bundled!
It's well tested and have more than +10000 users.
It works for all devices which has fastboot :0)
Any feedback is appreciated.
Requirements:
Min 30 % battery!
Engineering hboot/spl OR S-OFF!
Do not reboot or shutdown, if you ever get an error flashing the radio or the hboot/spl!
Ask here for help if it happens!
Instead of having to maintain multiple OPs, i have decided to redirect the OP to the desire forum. It's only the facade and nothing else. All questions and ect regarding the (Droid) Incredible will still be on this thread :0)
The tool is the same and will work on any device which have fastboot mode.

Hello everyone !
After trying out most of Sensation-XL ROMs, i came up with these Roms:
1- XL 3.6 (v1.2) [Working like a Charm!]
2- XL 3.5 [Working like a Charm!]
3- CoreDroid (v1.2) [Working like a Charm!]
4- Sense 4.0beta (v3) [Working like a Charm!]
5- Insanely cool sense (v2.2.1) [Working like a Charm!]
6- AOSP (Senseless) [Working like a Charm!]
7- AOSP (senseless) based on the new OTA [Working like a Charm!]
8- 3 Musketeers ICS based on the new OTA [Working like a Charm!]
*Before anything do a BACKUP of your ROM, so if something went wrong you can retrieve back*
First: Install "Boot Manager" from Market.
Second: once you run "Boot Manager" for the first time, Superuser will pop up. Allow on everything. And "Boot Manager" will ask for:
A- Phone Setup - > Press OK
B- Warning - > Press OK
Once the app has backed up the PhoneROM boot.img it will give success press ok.
3rd: Then it will take you to the page of PhoneROM, goto settings & enable 'Force Large Boot.img'
Goto 'Manually Set Variables'
You should see the following:
Device: runnymede
sdblock: /dev/block/mmcblk0p33
system size: 1008
data size: 1024
cache size: 567
if any of the above value is different then set it as per above values, else leave it as it is..
go back to PhoneROM page & then scroll to ROM1
select Install Zip
"Warning: Before installing make sure you have Data Connection or wifi ON as the app requires few files from the server to edit boot.img accordingly.."
at Install Zip prompt select install Zip incase of a ROM, select the file from sdcard & select Okay
it will start installing the ROM.. first time installation will take some time as the app will create images for the ROM..
once done boot into the installed rom.. once booted in the new rom, setup your google account, run bootmanager & boot into phone rom.. shouldn't give u any issues.
Tips:
1- When changing from ROM to ROM on [Rom1] Make sure to wipe Data/Cache. (Boot Manager will ask you to do so)
2- Make sure you have 3.5GB free space.
3- If u are installing [XL3.6 Rom] make sure to install it as "Ext4".
4- After booting into the new rom & setting up google account, better to run the market before running bootmanager.
5- If u want to install [CoreDroid Rom], make sure to pick up [runnymede boot.img] and install it as "Ext2" (dont forget to wipe data/cache before installing)
6- While installing [Insanely cool sense] make sure to install it as "Ext4"
7- While installing [AOSP enhanced v1] make sure to install it as "Ext2"
8- While installing [Sense4.0 beta v3] make sure to install it as "Ext4"
9- While installing [AOSP based on the new OTA] make sure to install it as "Ext4"
10- While installing [3 Musketeers ICS based on the new OTA] make sure to install it as "Ext4" .

Advance info on BM & FAQ
More info on Boot Manager
Seker took us through installing a fresh ROM via Boot Manager, but we have more options as well..
Installation option #2:
You can also restore your NANDROID backup via Boot Manager on any slot you want. Procedure is simple, goto BM -> desired ROM slot -> Install Zip -> Restore Nandroid, select the folder & wait for BM to restore it.
Backup installed ROM:
You can also backup ur ROM slot for future use via BM. Goto BM -> ROM Slot to be backedup -> Manage Slot -> Backup Slot.. the procedure will take some time..
Warning: You cannot restore BM taken backup via Recovery as the backup is only BM readable
What to do when the newly install ROM gets stuck at HTC Logo:
Ok, once you have installed the ROM & the procedure went fine.. but once you try to reboot into the new ROM & your device gets stuck at the Splash Screen (HTC Logo).. no worries or no need to flash your PhoneROM again..
Take the Phone Battery out, insert it back & reboot into recovery.. goto Install Zip from SD Card -> browse to Bootmanager folder -> phoneRom -> & flash update.zip.. reboot & u'll be booted in ur PhoneROM
How to access SD Card once in SD ROM:
once booted into the SD ROM, you cannot use the default option to mount ur device SD card with PC, drag down the notification bar & u'll see 'USB Connected!' with a Red USB icon, select it then Mount SD Card & u r good to go, to unmount it use the same method
