I'm new to Android.
QR code is simply a hyperlink so you use your Barcode Scanner app to capture the QR code, the app will translate that to a hyperlink linking your phone to Android Market.

The trick is that you'll first need to download the "Barcode Scanner" application from the Market.
Ahhh... >_>
Is there any way to install free application from PC to N1?
- Download to PC
- Transfer to N1
Anyone please help.
Yes, look for these apps in "APK" format they're just like EXE to a PC, but whether that is legit is another question.
Hmmm... I dont want to install those into my PC. Just want to transfer it into N1 using PC.
Sorry if i'm asking so noobishly.

There are about a dozen different ways to do it.
If you've got the Android SDK installed, you can use the command "adb install <package_name>.apk" to manually install it.
Otherwise, you can copy the *.apk file onto your phone's SD card and use an application like Astro File Manager on your phone to install it.

The file i downloaded was .apk
But i just dont know what to do with it...
sorry, let me clearify... the file you download is called "com.isaacwaller.youtubedownloader.apk.jar"... this does no good on the phone to install so i decompressed it so now its "com.isaacwaller.youtubedownloader.apk"... yet this is a folder now and not a file.apk.... so putting it on the sd and using an app installer doesnt do much when its a folder with the name only saying .apk... i need a file.apk so i can use an app installer, right? or am i way off? Think maybe because i use a mac has anything to do with it??? or does it need to be a dev phone? my phone isnt "unlocked," and im running rc33
but to answer your question Rescue7 if you do have a the file "com.isaacwaller.youtubedownloader.apk" and not a folder like i have... all you need to do is put it onto your sd card, then run an app installer. if you use linda file manager it will give you an option... if not use the application installer that you can download via the market

Hmm well I'm using a PC. And I don't have a dev phone, or an unlocked phone. Just a regular G1. Well why dont u just give it a try? maybe it'll work??
JLO: you're either going to have to download it using firefox or use right click + save as in safari, otherwise osx think's a zip folder and tries to decompress it as it downloads, which results in the .jar file.
Here is your application
GO TO THIS WEBSITE AND IT IS THERE. AND TELL OTHER PEOPLE CAUSE I WANT TO SHARE THIS APP WITH OTHERS CAUSE IT IS THAT GOOD.
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5415
IN ORDER TO PUT IT ON YOUR PHONE YOU WILL NEED TO USE APPMANAGER WHICH IS FREE FROM THE ANDROID MARKET.
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5417
TRY IT OUT AND BE SURE TO SPREAD THE NEWS THAT IT IS FREE FOR DOWNLOAD AT THE FIRST LINK FOR ANYBODY WHO WANTS THE PROGRAM.
solution
just go to keepvid.com from your phone to download youtube videos onto your phone from your phone.
simply just go to the video you want to download on the browser then hit menu then go to url the url is now highlighted on ur phone copy it by using (hold down menu button then press C on your keyboard) not the big menu button on the outside of the phone the button next to the Z key on the keyboard then paste the link to keepvid.com using (menu then V) for paste then download the mp4 walla use a video player to play the video u just got from youtube

I just thought I'd point out that you don't have to use firefox or save as.
Just delete the jar off the end of the filename. It does this when downloading themes also. So far, I haven't had any issues just deleting the .jar.

Pulled from Marketplace. The developer still offers it for download here:

Ooops... seems it isn't available for DL on the website either. It was a free app, so I can just post my backed up apk file in here when I get home tonight.

Love this app thank you so much!!!
I need an app that will allow me to text 30-50 people at a time (more would be nice too). I had text flooder and that app worked well but can't find it in the market anymore.
I know there are a number of text apps. But I'd like to see what you guys are using.
Handcent has a group message function that might work for you.

Haven't installed an apk file yet. I googled and these are the directions I got...
To install APK applications on your Android phone do the following:
1.Copy the APK file you want to install to your phone's memory card and insert the card into your Android phone.
2.Go to Android Market and search for the Apps Installer application.
3.Open it and click on the Install button.
4.After it is installed, just open it. It will show you all the APK files stored directly in the root directory of your memory card.
5.Just click on the application you want to install and it will be installed.
This is the easiest way? And I noticed there are a lot of apk installer apps in the market. Any particular one better than another?
I just put the apk files on my SD card. Using file manager navigate to the file and click on it for it to install. I'm root and sideloading enable.

So save file to laptop and then hook USB cable up and copy/paste? Or is it possible to use my Captivate to come to this page, click on the file, and have it installed that way?
Do you have a specific file manager you use?
Hi all...
Sorry for the noob question but I am still really new with Android devices.
Can someone please explain how you "sideload" apps to my Galaxy S i9000M?
I really hope this is not an extremely dumb question but I really want to try the
z4root app out that RyanZA has created and it is not YET on the Market for download.
Any assistance and explaination is much appreciated!!!
PS... Im a quick learner so once it is explained I will not bother you PRO's again for something like this...
-EDIT- Ok... I see that this thread is not getting much response so I will add some further information in hopes that someone can explain things to me.
I am on stock JH2 Eclair Firmware (if that matters).
I want to know... How is the best way to download these apk files to my device to be installed? Via my computer and then xfered to my SGS via USB or should I download the file directly to my device?
Once its on my device, where is the best place to put it? ie. Internal SD, External SD, somewhere else?
Please oh mighty DROID experts... Help this unworthy noob in his quest for "DROID-DOM"...
There probably isn't a best way, but if you download the .apk to your desktop computer you can email it to your phone and then save attachment. I use internalsd/download because I don't have an external sd. Then use a program like Astro Browser on your phone and navigate to the download directory. Tap the file you saved and then open app manager to install.
USB or through kies will get the file to your phone easily also.
I like when people create a QR code for their files. I browse mostly on my desktop so I use barcodescanner on my phone to get the link to my phone.

Thank You Videonut. I appreciate the response and the help.
Any way works. Card reader for your SD card, KIEs, USB debugging mode, Dropbox, email attachment, web browser, bluetooth... none of it matters. Location on your phone doesn't matter either. You are still going to have to install it.
Thanks everyone for the explainations. They will come in handy in the future but for now it seems that RyanZA has put the z4root on the market and I no longer need to side load it but again... Thanks for helping!!!
Locations is now available for HTC WP7 devices for offline navigation. You can use Wi-Fi to download maps for many (most) regions around the world. You must connect to a charger to download.
The description is "Find your way with directions or voice guidance. You can download maps to your phone for offline use, or search and browse online maps when you're connected."
Current version is Locations_v2.1.0.0.xap
Rename files to:
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.001
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.002
ie take .7z from end of filename
.002 is giving me a 404 File not found...can you re-up?
fixed. please try again
Also could try this:
Thanks!

if you have HTC device, or dont know how to handle with attachments, no need to download this, simple go to marketplace, HTC Apps and download from there
or for other devices, use wAppStore for PC or WP7
PC

WP7 XAP

After renaming how do I copy to HD2? It's not a .xap file.
Extract with WinRAR or similar on PC then deploy. Id suggest you take dxdy's suggestions above instead though.

Yes, extra with a compression program WinRar, Winzip, 7-zip
Then deploy using a .xap deployer such as XAPDeploy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016766
Connect USB, fire up Zune, then deployer and load xap
Having a free GPS app like the one in Lumia phones, was my only reason to have an unlocked ROM. Now i think i'll keep my actual ROM (XBmod-Yuki). Congrats to HTC for having this app available to all.

Depends I what you want.
I prefer to have an .xap that I can load if/when I change to a different rom. I don't always want all .xap apps installed right away.
Downloading a file this each time from the marketplace would take considerable time.
That's why I went to the effort of making it available
is many tools to download xap from marketplace to PC....
i also suggest one...
It works, just need to decompress to get the .xap.

Yes, then just download the maps that you want.
I have an LG Optimus 7. Is there any way that I can install this app? I tried installing aAppStore from the link mentioned earlier in my Windows 7 laptop but I keep getting an error message before the app starts and it closes instantly... I also tried visiting the wAppStore.xap using the web browser of my mobile phone but I got a message that this type of file is not supported by my phone.
Any detailed help would be more than welcome!

why not install xap file with XAPDeployX? XAP install via IE is only for HTC devices with DFT custom ROM....
did your phone unlocked (Chevron or interop)? did you have .net Framework 4 and WP SDK installed on PC?
did your Zune running and synced with phone when try run wAppStore on PC?
P.S.
my advice: use Nokia Drive 2.0 if you can use this app.... is much better than Locations....

Thank you for the detailed reply. I just got the phone a week ago, so I am not familiar with all these apps and ways to install xap files. The phone is not unlocked.
I guess I will have to do a research on the apps that you mention, hoping that they would work (for example Nokia maps is bot available for my Optimus 7 through the marketplace).
Thanks again and apologies for the off-topic!

Hi there, when i browse play.google.com and i find an app i want to install i can just click it and it will install itself on my tablet.
A nice feature and i wonder if there exists any tool or maybe a site that does the same for .apk's i have already on my PC?
Try "MoboRobo", software that installs on a windows PC...let you load anything via the PC.
Videos, music, apps, etc...
Enjoy.

If you are command line savvy then a simple way may be to use 'adb push' to copy the apk directly to /data/app or wherever.
Or for multiple apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835732
And also a really simple methid is to have adb and the app in ths dame directory and run adb install app.apk

Re: Whatsapp working on the hp touchpad
Well, thank you for the reactions, but this is not what I meant.
I was talking about installing from a PC without wires.
At the moment I mostly use dropbox or box.net to upload the apk's to, then installing with ES file explorer.
I used to use Samba filesharing too.
But Googleplay manages to let me click on install and instantly installs it on my Android device, I don't think that your options work that way, right?
