is your volume down button soft/mushy? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My volume down button does not click like my volume up button. It's always been this way and It's kinda annoying. Volume up gives a very satisfying solid click. But volume down is mushy and you can't even tell its been pressed other than visually seeing it on the screen.
Is this normal, like a manufacturing issue, or is mine unique and defective?

I get a solid click. Must be your device.

Crap I thought so. Now what to do about it. I wish there was a way to easily fix it myself.

my vol down is slightly 'mushier' than my vol up, but still clicks and its still functional. though, i thought i had a similar problem. turns out i wasnt pushing the near the minus [-] sign because of my case.

Its mushy unless I take the battery off.. /: but its fine I can deal with it.

Anyone having issues with stuck power button?

Anyone having issues with power button being stuck? When I press the power button, it often gets stuck and phone reboots because of it. It's happened over 15 times today... It's getting quite annoying. I didn't spill anything or drop the phone, the power button just sticks and I have to keep pressing to get it unstuck... The volume buttons are fine though.

No problem here. If it were me, I would get the device replaced.
Hmmm. Yea. I'm gonna call them tomorrow. Still debating whether to return it or exchange it... I've been a little disappointed with battery life. Hmmm..
I am also having issues with my power button. It used to click when pressed like the volume buttons. Now I feel no click action at all. It still powers on the phone and screen but I feel that it is only going to get worse. makes me worried. No body else having this issue?
Not me, at least
The volume buttons on my Nexus 4 do the same thing although it happened much later in its life. If you can I would advise getting it replaced because its very annoying to say the least.
Mine just started this.
Last night I noticed my screen wasn't turning off after pressing the power button. All it would do was act like I was holding the power button with the intention of turning the phone off. one time it actually did turn off. This sucks. I'll be going by the Verizon store next time it happens. (because the phone is behaving completely normal right now)

has anyone found a solution to this?
i just received this phone as a motocare replacement for one with a cracked screen. it feels like they sent me a refurbished one someone spilled soda on. i kinda feel like a jerk sending it right back, but the constant resetting sure is annoying! i'm ready to send the phone in, but would much prefer to fix it myself if there's a way to do it. any way to fix it?
edit: nevermind. i sent it back. they sent it like this, they can deal with it. i'm afraid if i mess with it, i'll kill the warranty. still 100% love the phone and can't wait to get it back!!

[Q] Volume Rocker Cockeyed

I've had my Droid Turbo for about three weeks and am noticing the volume rocker seems to be a bit cockeyed. It looks like the volume up button is always being pressed, which is strange. See the attached photo for what I mean. Has anyone else seen this?
Note: It is working fine, though seems a tiny bit loose.

The sim card is hiding under the volume rocker, the above suggestion to pull it out and reset is a good bet.
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it but it's still in the same position.
I'm in the exact same boat. Reinstalling seemed to help a little bit, but the volume up is always slightly more depressed. Volume up down functionality works, but it is very annoying.
Mine has the same issue, but with the volume down.
Luckily it seems that if it ever gets too bad that the fix would be simple. Just replace the volume rocker instead of replacing the whole phone.
I have the same issue with the volume rocker. It is pressed in more at the top. Is there any way to fix it? Taking out the sim tray and pressing it in does not fix it. I am worrying putting on a case will make changing volume difficult.
maybe a spring is missing in the tray arm
When I pulled out the sim tray, I noticed one spring more pressed in than the other. This causes one end of the rocker to be more popped out.
Walk in to a Verizon store, go to the droid display, pull that one out and put your in... Done!
I believe this is an issue with the ballistic nylon in blue version. When I went to BB to exchange my phone I saw some phones that have the same issue.
I can live with the cockeye, my up volume is a pain. It is very difficult to make it work. I can turn it down with no problem.
I know this thread is old but I just bought one and have noticed the same thing. Both buttons still work perfectly fine but I am a little sceptic. Has anyone ever had this break one of the buttons?

[Q] Mushy Power Button

My power and volume up buttons are starting to stick a little bit and to press them feels a little mushy. Any way to clean them to restore the click they made when being pressed? This is really frustrating...

same here with the power button... one of it's sides is down. but it doesn't look like it's stuck. I can manage to put it on the right position again easily. It's more like if's loosing the tension...
Me too. Used to have a great feeling click to it. Not sure how long it's been bad, but noticed it a week ago. At times i can't feel it might at all. On a few occasions it's got stuck for long enough to bring up the power off menu.
My volume up is perfect. My volume down isn't so clicky any more, but nothing like the power key. It seems with volume down that now I've noticed and started writing this I've fixed it by pressing repeatedly. Didn't work for power...
I've just watched to this video where she disassemble the moto x:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dweww9_RF2E
At 13:40 we can see the button mechanism. It's an ordinary plastic membrane that offers the resistance for those buttons. I think the metal buttons are just too heavy for the kind of membrane that Motorola used on this... The curious thing is that I press the power button half of the times that I should press on an ordinary smartphone, because I always wake it up with the Moto Screen stuff...
Anyway.. I don't think there is a way to fix it without sending it to repair. They will probably disassemble it, change the membrane and send it back to you. And unless they change it for a more resistant membrane, nothing will prevent the issue from appearing again...

[Q] Power button not clicking

Hey guys
Just wanted to know if there is any way I could fix the power button to make it click. I picked up a Nexus 6 about a month ago used. The power button has no click to it,but I thought that was normal. But just today, I thought I would read into it because I noticed the volume buttons where clickey(never really use them) and that the power button should be too. How or can I fix the power button?
Thanks
hmm the power buttons works but there is no click?
Replace the power button/volume rocker flex cable it's all one unit. Easy to replace.

Hahaa. For you. I'm not opening my ****. If it works don't need no click.
It will fail soon enough.
I'm a technician. When these types of buttons lose the click, they fail soon after.

That's right. It feels terrible to press, plus some times when I press the power it doesn't turn on and I'm not sure if I pressed it hard enough....so usually I press very hard to make sure I don't have to press again. 90% of the time it comes right on.

Well, I did already take of the back to put on a real leather slickwrap skin(with replacement back) and the stock back was really on there(ripped off a piece of the plastic that stuck to the back cover), but I managed to get it off. Sucky part is, I'd have to rip it back off again and I'm not sure it will stick as well if I do that.
I just need to find the part I guess. I do think that eventually it might stop working.
pretty sure you can use a hair dryer or heat gun and get the back cover off rather easily, should be able to reapply it back again. here is a link to the power and volume buttons.

Changing ringer volume randomly?

Randomly throughout the day, my phone changes the ringer volume from vibrate to the lowest sound tick on the ringer. This happens at least 5 times per day (usually more) as long as the privacy switch isn't set to a silent mode. This happens on OOS, lineage, RR, etc. This happens to both me and a friend all the time. He bought his 3T a few weeks after I got mine, we're both bootloader unlocked, have different versions of TWRP, he runs OOS and I run Sultan's lineage build normally. Basically we're both extremely annoyed at this little issue. We cannot figure out why it's happening but it happens to both of us regardless of ROM or firmware version. This has to be a software issue, what are the chances that we both got devices with a hardware issue. I have a 64gb gray, he has a 128gb black, purchased about a month apart, no way we have phones from the same batch. Any help to fix this annoying little issue would be greatly appreciated.
Is you phone in your pocket when it happens? Any chance it can be something as simple as the power & vol rocker being pressed when the phone is in your pocket? Reason I say power & vol rocker, is that both would need to be pressed for the vol to change (pressing vol up/down when screen is off will normally do nothing).
Hasn't happened to me on this phone. But on my old M8, once in a while when crouching down (with phone in my pocket), the power button would be depressed long enough to reboot the phone. Although the power button was on the top of that phone (and easier to accidentally depress, I would think). I was starting to think there was some hardware/software fault making the phone reboot; before I realized it was just me depressing the button on accident.

It happens even after sitting still on my desk after an hour of not being touched. It's been going on ever since I've had the phone. Definitely not accidental presses

I know that with some custom ROMS, it works in sets of three.
Alarms/priority/all notifications
Total silence/vibrate/ring
At least it's what I've noticed. And only with a few custom ROMS.
Hope this helps.
