FRF72 and 3G - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I've recently upgraded to the new FRF72 firmware update and and for some reason I'm no longer able to use 3G. Whenever I uncheck 'Use 2G networks only' I loose connection to my network (Orange UK) and get the "Emergency Calls Only" message.
Can anyone help?
Regards,
Brent

Not sure, I know when I upgraded I got way better signal. Dont know if its coincidence or not, but Im also getting like twice the speeds. My latest speed test was 4.2 Mbps
Hope ya figure it out. Just saying its not a frf72 thing as my speeds fly

Try rebooting at least twice.
I've not noticed a difference.

I have a similar problem. 3G connection is now much worse, after upgrading I have noticed that the connection is now less sensitive and loses signal much easier, especially when holding the phone in in hand. Very bad update..

Well bugger me. After trying to fix this since FRF72 got leaked and I decided to punt it, I appear to have solved the issue.
For those who're suffering from the same problems; I remembered I've played around with Network Type in the hidden settings (dial *#*#4636#*#* then click Phone Info). I turned Ciphering off and set the Network Type to CDMA only rather than the default WCDMA preferred. I've now changed this back and things seem to be working.

my 3G speed is blazing now in Houston.
It's triple the speed of my work connection.

uk vodafone, 3g speed apparently increased.
I have literally just added the frf72 release, as I sit here.
I did test before upgrade and got 1555kbs
test after 2293kbs
not a controlled test as other apps could have been using the connection in the background, however, this is where I always sit and have never seen that high a result.
I am running stock, Froyo installed when first update.zip came out, and frf72 update.zip just applied now. otherwise nothing changed.

while we're on this speed subject is there any way to get EDGE any faster, where I live the providers only have EDGE unfortunately!

[Q] Intermittent Data Network after flashing rom

On stock 2.1, I get 3G practically everywhere I go, but when I flash a rom I always get the H or E symbol and sometimes it randomly goes dead even though I just had H or E in the exact same spot... What could I do to improve this?
H is another symbol for 3g lol ithink all builds have this

Tried JI6 - I'm using Serendipity 5.8 and it's the same. I get like 4 bars, then it jumps to 0 and randomly I have no connection. I forgot to note, it is for both Data and Voice networks...
If it helps, I'm in Orange County and when I do Speedtest my scores are abysmal on "H" I get 270KBPS down and 130 KBPS up.
The "H" is 3.5g a little faster than 3g. If it keeps alternating between "H" and "E", I would definitely consider flashing a new modem.

I've flashed 3. All of them do this. :/
Highest I've gotten on Speed test is with Jk4 and it was like 800kbps download... And it's usually around 200-300.
have you tried to disable HSPA? To do so, go to your dialer>type *#301279#
select [2] then select [1] . see it that helps
*edit* If that doesn't work, put the phone in airplane mode for a few minutes and re-enable.

Thanks man. Trying it now, will report back soon...
Still iffy... I dunno but I dropped my old phone in water with the SIM card. I got a new one, but could it be the SIM card that's damaged?
It very well could be the sim card.
Hope you get your phone working again!

[MOTO X XT1052 ] Time without signal

i wrote about my problem losing signal whlie switching 3G-2G 2G-3G
I live in an area where the 3G signal is not very strong, and it happens that the phone changes alone in 2G mode, then return to 3G when the signal is better..
It happens, however, that during these steps 3G-2G or 2G-3G phone loses the line, so that in that passage i'm not contactable if someone phone me, I realize that I get the SMS notification later.
I noticed that the indicator of the phone signal is reset, and I can not even call. As an indication of the lack of signal is about 4-5 sec
With other devices like Galaxy S2 and Motorola Defy+, in the same place with the same operator and sim didn't happens...

I look this on SETUP/Battery/Cell Standby
time without a signal x%
sometimes is abot 1% and sometimes even 7%,
can you have a look about your devices?
Thanks

I've had time without a signal up to 25%. However the phone had a signal pretty much the entire time but it was HSPA instead of the preferred LTE. The time without a signal seems to indicates how much time the phone does not have the preferred signal protocol, not the time it actually had zero signal, in my case anyway. Upstairs at home I have LTE, in the basement I only get HSPA so it is easy to see.
I'd only be concerned if your battery life is bad, with no obvious culprit. Then it may be your signal strength. And Gsam and other apps won't show you that signal killed your battery. But its always a good guess when your signal is suspect and nothing else shows up in Gsam.
battery drain is ok, but why the phone lost signal if there is good signal field?????

[Q] Frequency Band messed up

Hey guys,
it seems like i messed up my frequency band on my i9305.
i installed an app to change my network status to WCDMA only as the signal at my working location is very low and my phone automatically switches to edge (which i dont want it to)
The app itself is just a shortcut to the service menu.

Changing the network mode worked fine, but i accidently tapped the menu button AND changed the frequency band to USA while holding the phone in my hand without watching the screen.
my question is:
how can i change it back to EURO band?
as you see, there is no option for that.
i switched the preferred network mode back to LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
as you can see on the first screenshot, it shows -81 dBm 59 ASU for the signal strenght.
so for me (im a noob at this) it seems like the phone actually recognizes there is a network but it doesnt connect to it because it is set to USA band. May that be right?
However, i need to know how to switch back to EURO band, flashing another modem didnt help at all.
can i do that with adb for example?
(com.android.settings.BandMode) << scratch that.... am start -n com.android.settings/.BandMode in adb gives me the same options of course (USA Band, Cellular 800, PCS 1900)
Please help me somehow
Edit: to clear things up: When using *#06# it still shows my imei. it also shows the baseband in the phone info under settings.
if i get it right that means that the efs partition is still okay.
i have no idea what could be wrong
Update:
Looks like i solved the problem.
i just flashed a lollipop cm12 rom + gapps, flashed the modem again and voilĂ .
I even have a better signal now due to the new modem.
After that i went back to the nameless lollipop rom and everything is still fine.

Force LTE only without root access, Huawei P30 Pro

I would like my phone to always reconnect to the network once it looses LTE bandwidth.
The thing is that the provider gives me LTE for the first few minutes, but then reduces my speed to HSDPA
So what I need is an app that goes into the airplane mode for just one second and then reactivates the connection.
I found out that rooting my phone is impossible and all the apps that I tried do not work without root.
I downloaded about three different apps all claiming to provide a "Force LTE" experience.
Any suggestions on how I can achieve the goal of auto reconnecting to the network in case my bandwidth drops lower than LTE?
It wouldnt be an issue if I would be actively sitting on the phone, but I am using it as a hotspot with the phone at the window to have best connectivity.

Download this app and change the numbers I've circled in red to just "11" and reboot. You'll have loads more network choices.

It appears to me that the provider doesnt allow me to choose LTE only? Is that possible?

The method is very easy:
1. Use SIM 1 as the default connection setting
2.
You need to install this app for FREE
at Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teknokia.force4glteonly
pro version : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teknokia.force4glteonlypro
galaxy store: https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.teknokia.force4glteonly
pro version : https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.teknokia.force4glteonlypro
3. Run the application, press the SIM 1 only or Android testing button. You will enter two LTE Switcher options and also 2 Android testing options.
4. You can try all of them which support your phone.
If the telecommunication operator you are using does not support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and uses LTE Only Mode, so regular calls will be blocked.

"Automatically select network"

In my Pixel 5's Mobile Network settings, there is an option entitled "Automatically select network".
I use T-Mobile as my carrier. My question here is, is it better to leave this enabled or disabled? And also, why? (See attached)
My phone was showing that it got the "5G Standalone (SA)" update cuz under About Phone and SIM status, it showed "NR SA" (NR = New Radio) just after I saw an article saying Google just put this update out last week. That was a couple days ago. Then I saw it had gone back to non-standalone (NSA) again (Mobile Data) and LTE (Mobile Voice).
So then I went back to Network settings and disabled Automatically select network, and it went back to "NR SA" again (for both Mobile Voice & Mobile Data). (See attached)
What do you guys think? Any negatives to leaving this disabled?

There shouldn't be any negatives to leaving it disabled.
So I spoke to Google, and I realize now that this option really doesn't make any difference enabled or disabled. So yes, I agree swangjang.
I also came to the realization that what was much more likely affecting the "NR SA" status was the new "Adaptive Connectivity" option being enabled in Call/Network settings. This settings switches the phone to 4G LTE when you're doing simple things like texting or web browsing, and for bigger things to 5G. It helps to save battery life, but I don't really like not being in 5G for as much as possible, even for web browsing. So I turned it off.
(**So now I consider this issue to be resolved.**)
Now that I did, I notice that the SIM status went back to NR SA right away, and pretty much stays in that status at least MOST of the time. So I guess this was the issue, not "Automatically select network". So I recommend anyone who wants to be sure their phone is in NR SA status more often or most of the time (esp once your carrier upgrades your local cell towers to NR SA status!) to disable Adaptive Connectivity immediately. SA will give you the better version of 5G which again does NOT piggyback on 4G LTE towers to work (aka NSA). This version I believe offers better range, service, speed, and building penetrability.
In my area (Chicago and nearby suburbs), T-Mobile has not yet upgraded my local towers to NR SA (I called them and they were able to check this for me on their end), so it's not a big deal yet. But my guess is by this summer they prob will, so I'd prefer to be ready since my Pixel now has this capability thanks to the most recent February update.
Let me know if you guys have any questions!
