Has this happen to anyone yet? I don't have a recovery, it just reboots into fastboot and if I choose recovery it reboots to fastboot... Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Kernel Version:

If this happens to you, do the logical thing, or obvious. Flash the alternate recover which is "RA Recovery v1.7.01.1". For some reason ROM Manager v1.8.9.6 is not flashing the Clockwork Mod Recovery v2.0.0.7 correctly despite the fact it shows a success alert.
Same problem here but with the FRF72 , I am root but can not get in to recovery, or get the root fix working.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706232[/url].
Okay the RA was not reading my SD card and the Clockwork Mod Recovery v2.0.0.7 was not working either. So now what I did was, in ROM Manager scroll all the way to the bottom and choose "All ClockWorkMod Recoveries" and Flashed the 2.0.1.0, or perhaps choose something higher than the version you already have or is the latest.

i had cyanogen custom ROM installed on my nexus i used the ROM option to install stock froyo ROM with superuser, after that I had the stock fr191 ROM then the O.T.A. update hit my phone and since that i lost my recovery I still can access it only by pressing power and volume + but it doesn't give me any option beside flash update.zip is there a way to install recovery without messing the FRG83, 2.2.1 its very good no problems I just want the htc camera with the 720 support. and i also miss the back up restore option, any help?
I used the rageagainstthecage method to gain root and then flashed the recovery with the method described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7392149&postcount=61
thanks allot but the recovery image in the link is not valid
Read my signature, read the relevant guides, and download the new recovery listed in "Recovery".
my 3 button recovery mode is working. however, i need to disable verification so as to install roms from the SD card. hence, i installed rom manager to use clockworkmod. i flashed clockworkmod recovery, and then chose the option to boot into clockwork mod recovery. however what appears on the screen is exactly the same as my normal 3br combo! no extra options whatsoever that clockwork recovery is supposed to provide. what did i do wrong?

You need 2e recovery in order to flash any unsigned ZIP files.
Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 using ODIN and then you can flash any ZIP files. You will also be able to enter CWM recovery.
Hope this helps.
oh lol thanks!
Hi all, I have the I9000 with stock (branded, h3g ita) firmware Froyo 2.2
I recently removed Ryanza OCLF and flashed Speedmod Kernel k13e in order to be able to use ROM manager and use custom ROMs... but there's my problem, if it is one...
When I enter Recovery Mode, it automatically opens ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.0, that comes with Speedmod Kernel. So I thought to install ROM Manager, but when I launched it the app didn't find the CWM recovery version previously mentioned. So I said to flash CWM Recovery and he says that he has successfully downloaded it... and then he say that my current recovery is version 2.5.1.2
Then, I ask to reboot in recovery mode but what happens is that my phone reboots in the original recovery (android system 3e), it tries to run something (i think the update.zip) and fails... so I manually go into recovery mode (3 buttons combo) and it load CWM recovery version 2.5.1.0 (the one that cames with SpeedMod)
What am I doing wrong? Why ROM Manager launches 3e recovery? Is it because the 2.5.1.0 version of CWM rec has became the "default" recovery (the one automatically launched with the 3 buttons combo)?
Hello.
ROM manager is unable to download clokworkmod recovery. Maybe because I'm in a "sanctioned country" CUBA and I have a lot of internet restrictions from both Google and my ISP.
My question is: Can I manually download clokworkmod recovery and copy it on the SD card and have ROM manager install it?
If the answer is yes: How? and where do I find Clockworkmod for the captivate?
i897 stock 2.1.1 rooted and unlocked.
Thanks.

all rom manager does is put this zip file on your sdcard. its not needed.
just drop this on the root of your sdcard, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice. CWM will come up then

the one caveat to this ... make sure you have the 2e boot loader when you boot into recovery. The 2e bootloader is the stock bootloader that comes with froyo. 3e will require you to have the update packages signed, and therefore will need to downgrade to 2e before you can switch to CWM.

Wrong.
2e RECOVERY comes from firmware 2.1, which the OP stated he was on. Froyo comes with 3e recovery. Has nothing to do with bootloader, because the bootloaders are the same between eclair and Froyo.

GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Working, one more question. I noticed three things:
1 - If I reboot to recovery again it goes into stock recovery (2e). Then I hit reinstall packages only once and ClockWorkMod comes up.
2 - If I delete the update.zip from the sd card CWM will not work.
3 - ROM Manager still says that CWM is not installed therefore is not working OK.
Is all this ok? Should I select: "Install sdcard:update.zip" while in CWM? Should I do something else?

That sounds pretty normal to me. If you are getting into CWM then thats all that really matters. The deal with ROM manager is that it doesnt work very well with our phones. But if you are trying to flash a custom ROM you can still do it without ROM Manager. However, you need to read up about the rom you want to flash because it is a slightly risky process. Its as risky as using ROM Manager and almost Russian roulette if you dont read.
But do not delete the update.zip after you install it. I dont know if it messes with the boot process of recovery mod but I do know its better to have that backup file on your SD card already if you run into a problem later on.
Don't bother with ROM manager. Its close to useless with SGS phones. Make sure your 3 botton combo works and you should be golden. Also making a jig isn't a bad idea also, just incase you do screw up and you get in a softbrick where your keycombos decide to not work.
Hello, I apologize in advance if this isn't the right section for this,
My captivate doesn't seem to be able to enter clockwork recovery mode. Whenever I select "Reboot into Recovery" or "Install ROM from SD Card" on Rom Manager, it just reboots to the Android Recovery.
Phone information:
Model: SAMUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband:I897UCKB2
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FROYO.UCKB2
I'm using Rom Manager v5.0.2.0 and ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 for Samsung GalaxyS Captivate
if it matters, I'm also getting this notification from superuser saying "su binary outdated"
I tried updating it but it fails. not sure if this is relevant.
Any ideas/suggestions to access cmr?
EDIT: following instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
