A couple of questions - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, does anyone know of a good picture frame widgit that allows for a larger frame size than the default widgit one? paid or non paid is fine
Second question is, is it possible to mod the stock wallpaper software to allow selecting pictures in portrait mode instead of the regular landscaped selection? I know I can just use an app like Wallpaper Plus, but I really do not like that app because it is extremely unpolished with lots of bugs and glitches and the dev has not updated the app in ages

Does anyone have the straight poop on wallpaper for HC?

I am having trouble with using custom wallpaper and need some input from you fine people. I understand our tab has a resolution of 1024X600 so plain, dumb redneck logic tells me a wallpaper image of that size will fill the screen perfectly and completely. However, that is not the case apparently.
If I put a 1024X600 image on the tab and select it as wallpaper, I am presented with a photo-cropping interface that FORCES me to crop the picture. OK, no biggie, it is high-quality at 300dpi, so I do that and it includes the whole picture I want displayed.
The problem comes when you actually go back to the home screen, the picture has been blown up so damn large that it only shows a small piece of the image.
Does anybody have any real specs on what format the wallaper needs to be in?
I've searched forever regarding this as well...and can't find a straigt answer. What's strange to me is that if you click on a picture on the web, and select set as wallpaper, it will be formatted relatively accurately (there's a little cropping, but not much) if you save the same photo, and set it as wallpaper through the setup screen, it's all zoomed in and cropped horribly.
I've used an app called Wallaby to set wallpapers. you can tell it to NOT resize the image you select, and it works OK.
Basically, what I've found is that even though the resolution is 1024X640, you actually need an image that's more line 1024 wide by 1920...the reason for this is that when you are presented with the "crop" screen, you select a box, but it will only actually show the top 1/3rd of that box as your wallpaper. If you make the box smaller, it will select the top 1/3rd AND zoom in. the odd part for my is that the box is not axis specific...you are only able to crop vertically AND horizontally, not one or the other.
If you pull out a wallpaper image from a rom, you'll see that it's REALLY tall, and the bottom 2/3rds are pretty much blank...that's how it needs to be made in order to look right on the tablet.
so, if you can locate an image that's 1024X1920, it will not zoom in, but it will only show the top 1/3rd of the image on the screen as wallpaper...
Hit up the market for MultiPicture Live Wallpaper. Free app. Easiest way to get the most of your wallpapers back in landscape. Most of the current versions of android are based around Portrait orientation so it crops to fit across a few smaller windows.
For those with newer devices that are landscape oriented, we get screwed. lol But, gladly this app is free to get what you need done at the very least. Has some other interesting features too, need be, but a lot are paid features, I think.
Hope this helps.
Flick ur pics from the market does a really fine job also.

I actually have had multi-picture live since I first got the tab. It does something very strange with BoS. Multi-picture provides for screens 1-7 but the device shows screens 8-14 so it won't even configure correctly at all. I am sure it is the difference in res for screen.
Actually, I have been able to get both 1024X1024 and 1024X600 images to work with the regular wallpaper chooser. The problem comes after waking it up from sleep, the image is borked.
Tried Wallaby - absolutely worthless for me. Wallpaper Wizardrii is ok, but still difficult to work with.

[Q] Photo Editor automatically resizing photos!

The bundled photo editor on my Note keeps reducing the photo dimensions from over 3,000+ -by- something px, to a pitiable 1280x960.
That editor is mighty powerful, but with this re-sizing, you don't feel like using it at all.
Any work around to prevent this from happening?
Try TouchRetouch. I believe you are using Note. So this is one good app which acts loyal to you. I mean it asks you before resizing
Thanks @badjaguar007.
Yes, I use a Note. TouchRetouch seems like a good app but it doesn't have blur functionalities (lens blur, motion blur etc.) and colour correction etc. either, not good enough, although the resizing problem is solved just like you said.

Fix square aspect ratio?

After sideloading lots of apps onto the gear and comparing to the motoactiv, I have discovered the second most crippling thing about the gear after the lack of wifi is the square aspect ratio screen. It breaks 75% of the apps I try because they're designed for a 4:3 or wider screen and all the interface elements either overlap or are drawn off screen. It has excellent hardware, and with a normal aspect ratio like on other smartwatches it would run most apps and games perfectly.
The landscape/widescreen apps that do work tend to scale the image down so it fits within the width of the screen. Does anyone know if it might be possible to force apps to do this, or to fool them into thinking its a 320x240 screen? Like how paranoidandroid allows you to set the DPI for individual apps. It wouldn't be perfect not filling the screen, but it would at least allow the majority of apps to function.
If only it were 480x320 instead of 320x320...

What your asking from my knowledge is not possible..
One thing you can do tho is set the independent DPI's of apps like Paranoid Adnroid using xposed framework & app settings module.
You can also application titles, which breaks some apps although does free up some screen real estate.

Stock Photo Gallery Color Issue?

I've noticed the color of the thumbnails in the stock Samsung gallery app differ when they're actually enlarged. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't happen with third party gallery apps, but I'd prefer to keep the stock gallery app simply because it plays back the slomo video. If you haven't noticed, check it out. Watch the vibrant reds/blues slightly shift to a lighter red/blue.
Now, I've experimented with this, and noticed it does this when the "Adaptive display" setting is left on. However, leaving it on and testing this out with a third party gallery app, it worked perfectly. The display adapted and the colors matched. Of course the color will be the same once enlarged so as long as you change the display's screen mode to "AMOLED photo". However, I'd prefer the adaptive setting because I don't like the warmer white tones when using my phone for everything else besides photo editing.
Leaving it on "Adaptive display", the software should know when I am actually opening a photo and adjust the colors so they're accurate. But now I'm thinking that there's a glitch with the stock gallery. The adaptive display setting is working fine with third party gallery apps, just not that stock gallery app. Which is sorta ironic....
Thoughts?
I noticed that too, doesnt really bother me.
What does bother me is how there is no "Capture" feature anymore what playing back a video and how trimming videos takes a ridiculous amount of time all while not being able to retain 4K resolution. My Note 4 trimmed 4K videos in seconds and kept the resolution.

Dialer/Call Screen mods/fixes

After recently rooting my J7, I've decided to use one of the resolution changing apps to give my phone a 1080x1920 pixel faked resolution, with a dpi of 280. For the most part, it works. Some built-in apps such as the camera or even the touchwiz launcher (seems some UI elements used hard-coded numbers to define regions, or in case of the camera, the view is almost a quarter of the screen with black around the edge, and the touch input is offset to a different corner.
All else seemed good, until I realized another major flaw - the call screen - it works, however when trying to pull up the keypad when in a call, it only displays a single, gigantic 1 button. no other buttons are available. Button-based menus are of course now impossible to navigate... unless every button to press is 1, 1 and 1. And then 1.
Can't take pictures of it now as the resolution change causes an issue for screenshots - I'll need to get a screenshot app for this, but ultimately, are there apps that replace the call screen? I thought a dialer app would fix this but the one I have only replaces the text/call/contacts apps, not actually calling. I'd prefer there to be an app that can replace it, as it seems most third party apps are almost never hard-coded to a specific resolution, meaning I'd imagine it should work on my modded phone.
If more explanations are needed I can try to provide some screenshots as needed when i'm done. I'm really hoping I don't have to reset the screen. I love how everything works otherwise...
