I think there is something wrong with video playback on froyo i use Any DVD Converter it has an option for the nexus one but all the videos are choppy
Any one else experiencing this
If you are getting smooth playback on Converted videos please share your configuration..
Use handbreak, zero problems.
Best options have already been discussed, search.
If you use EncodeHD, there's a Nexus profile so you don't have to mess with any of the bitrate/resolution settings.

Audio is not properly synced to video much of the time. It was bad on rooted stock but still problematic on nookie froyo.
What is the reason for this? Is there a fix?

Not sure what video you're referring to but suffice it to say that for optimum quality of video file playback re-encode your video to a format that the hardware acceleration of the nook supports by default.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894165&highlight=handbrake+preset
My recommendation is to re-encode using Handbrake with the preset posted in the first post in that thread. The only other change I'd suggest to that preset is to change the video setting to constant quality at a setting of 22 (or 20 if the format of the original file is smaller than 720 pixels wide).
Video playback questions pop up almost every other day on this forum and it always ends up being a debate about what works and what doesnt. Much of the time the difference is basically subjective opinion on what is acceptable playback quality. Some are satisfied with some audio lag when playing back avi or other format files using 3rd party software. Others demand no dropped frames and perfect audio sync which is where your best bet is re-encoding to MP4 in H.264 baseline.
I have some movies that I'd like to encode for playback on my Nexus One using Handbrake or some other type of freeware. What format is best to use with the Nexus One, that would give the best playback performance. I assume there must be some type of format that is natively supported, or hardware accelerated.
A google search should probably pull up that info, but I stopped worrying about that a long time ago. I just switched to Mobo Player and now never worry about encoding video. It will play anything.
So I assume from searching that MP4 is the preferred method of encoding, but what about the sound? Just looking for some more details on this.
Well, mp4 is just a container. It doesn't tell you about the video nor the audio codec used in the video file. You can try recording a video and then viewing the codecs used in making that video.
Can anyone recommend some good settings for converting videos for the Bionic thru Handbrake? I found some online but they didn't really seem to be optimized for the Bionic. TIA
bump...anyone have recommendations for using Handbrake?
I was wondering the same thing, but then I just threw the videos on my phone, downloaded Rock Player and let it do its thing....no more converting

Thanks for the reply. What's the resolution of the videos you're playing, and is the playback quality any better with Rock Player vs. default player?
The reason for the thread is because I have a lot of movies in 720p format that have choppy playback on the Bionic. I found this somewhat ironic since the video camera allows you to shoot video in 1080p and it plays back fine. So I copied one of my 1080p vids recorded by my phone over to my PC so I could look into stuff like the frame rate and audio settings to try to figure out what settings I should be using in Handbrake. And despite my best efforts, the videos I convert in Handbrake still have choppy playback.
Since the Bionic has HDMI output capabilities, I'd like to find out what are the best settings in Handbrake to preserve picture quality while maintaining smooth playback on an HDTV.
Hi all!
I'm a new member of the forum but I've lurked here before for assistance with my devices. I recently had some misadventures with flashing a Dell Streak 7 but was able to recover with help from various posts I found here.
I'm now running a stock Honeycomb (build 21700) DS7 and am seeing some odd behavior during video playback. Specifically, several players I downloaded from the market will drop the audio after about a minute. Stopping and resuming playback brings the audio back, as will jumping to another point in the video but it will stop again quickly. Video playback continues without issue.
The apps I tried are DoubleTwist, MoboPlayer, and mVideoPlayer. The behavior of all three is the same. (I had tested all three using stock Froyo and all three would actually stop playback after about a minute.)
The files in question are DVD resolution (720x400) MKV, video encoded with H.264/AVC at about 1000kbps, audio encoded with AAC. These were created with Handbrake using a modified preset (DVD High Profile, with resolution settings changed but encoding options unchanged). Some files are transcodes from 720p source files, others are DVD rips. I picked 720x400 since that approximates the DS7's resolution and minimizes the file size.
These files play fine on a Galaxy Tab running stock Froyo, which makes me think the problem is the DS7. I did find another thread that mentioned an app called Dice and that does seem to work, which suggests another cause for the problem.
Has anyone else encountered this problem with a stock HC DS7? I'm debating trying one of the custom ROMs listed here, but I don't know if there's an underlying problem that isn't OS-specific since I've had issues with two different versions of Android. I've tried different memory cards, thinking there might have been a problem with the 64GB SDXC card I originally tested with, but the playback problem occurs with other SD/SDHC cards too. I haven't tried music playback yet, but can do so if it would help find a resolution.
Any help would be appreciated!
i use online player and haven't had a single issue maybe you should try that and i stepped up to honeystreak and love it id recommend it
Hey everyone.
I have the Bell (Canadian) note 3 and I just tried the smooth motion video recording. Very neat, but the playback is very garbled and distorted. When I play it on my PC it's fine.. Could this be a flaw in the phone that could cause issues?
Anyone else have or hear about this?

I resolved it. Turns out another video playback app was set as default and it cannot handle the video. Only stock samsung app is able.
Works great now.
Video playback on android is where video playback on PC was a decade and change ago: A maze of incompatible codecs and video playback tools, and nowhere is there any decent explanation of how the whole mess is supposed to work together or why it sucks so much.
It was just as bad on PCs before. I remember having to have like half a dozen different video players, because each one could handle some - but not all - video formats. And you couldn't rely on file associations either (as is the case on android today), because all the video formats that we talk about are just "containers", which can contain video data encoded with any of a number of different codecs. So you can't say "Play the .mp4's with this player, the .wmv's with the other player" - but that's the level that file associations work on.
Suffice to say, my experience with making my existing video library play on android has been very frustrating, and there are still numerous videos that play fine on windows which I haven't been able to play on android. Naturally, just like on windows in the dark ages, none of the players provide useful feedback on what went wrong - a failure results in black screens, or no sound, or a force close, or occasionally a useless error. God forbid they say something like "the required codec ______ is not available", so I'd know what I needed to look for. Is there a reason for this? Who knows?!
It probably doesn't help that google has a financial interest in it being difficult to play video from sources other than their Google Play Movies store and Youtube.
