Is there any aplication to make video calls over wifi on the xperia?
I hate i cant make any video calls here in USA with my phone.
Now the new iphone is advertising they can do it now. (Wifi only)
So my guess we already have it. Do we?

Thanks i will check it out.
You can't use Portrait until someone makes an app to switch the camera IDs. I have a post on that somewhere.
There's a service called QIK(.com) which can do it, but the app they have made available for WinMo can only stream. The Android version on the HTC EVO does proper video calls. Maybe someone will write an app that uses the service, or maybe QIK will extend their app, or maybe a phone vendor will partner with QIK, though it all seems unlikely with WinMo 6 on it's last legs.

I believe this link will take you to download the ripped yahoo messanger app. I've got it, but have not had the opp to use the video chat. But it does show up as an option check out it out people!!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812919
Edit: according to the above post only rear camera working on video, but hey its progress!
I am getting.. "Cannot download, The content is not supported on this phone."
I got mine from the evo forums I will post a link later. It is actually 2 downloads, the messaging apk and then the video chat addon apk. You must install the messaging apk for the video apk to work.

This is gonna be pretty awesome as soon as the devs get it working the right way. I'm waiting on the links, good work everyone, this community is the best.
This is the original link that I found the link to download the apks http://androidspin.com/2010/10/19/y...chat-application-found-in-leaked-mytouch-rom/

Tried it with my Epic. No camera from the phone is being recognized on the PC client and the phone continues to say "Connecting...".
Will try it at home where I can log onto Wifi for more testing.

I downloaded it but I can't seem to get it to wrk. Do I have to install it ontop of the prexsisting mmessenger client or do I uninstall first. I tried both and they don't work
Epic 4G
I still havnt had a chance to use it myself, but it is sounding like a no go for now. Hopefully someone can play with it and get it working, I don't know why google has failed to implement video with gtalk yet! It sucks having a front facing camera and not being able to use it. Because I don't know any one with an evo, epic, or iphone ect... we need phone to pc video chat!

Don't even try it won't work guys unsupported just like skype.
If ur looking for a pc to phone video cat try "qik in touch" its in bet now but frm what I hear its working
works on Evo just fine, but doesn't work on Epic yet
works for me (cell to pc) even tho the other party sees my front facing cam image sideways on their end but I see my image right side up in my self view window while in a video chat session. Still kinda buggy trying to establish a successful video chat. I have not tried cell to cell or over a 3g/4g connection, only verified cell to pc over my wifi connection.

Same here. Finally got a connection, but it was after multiple attempts.
It was working for me but then i had and update.push by yahoo... claimin to give better quality...which actually made the video call not work and give u a fc pop up
send it from maldito's phone aka (SolarSystemGalaxy)
Has anybody tried voice calling sans the video? How do you rate that? Does it work with earphones? Can you use earphones with video calling and use back camera for that?
What software do you use to video calls?
The only ones I have heard of are Fring, Tango and Yahoo. I think both parties need to be registered with the application for it to work.
Haven't used any of them though
Skype android works like a charm on my phone and worked on my POS pandigital tablet, but again, both parties need the app. Hoping to test it on the Gtab this week.
Reelportal is only thing that will work android to pc. I will post. Apk later, search on xda. You download and install and also install adobe AIR. Then all person on pc has to do is go to reelportal.com on pc. Go to same room, fast and simple. You click on number 10 to enable webcam.trust me,if you want to save alot of time go this route, ive tried it all.

Skype does not have camera settings in present release. Only voice calls are available. Also, not all ROMs support Skype.
Doh..brainfarted on that one. I skype video off my laptop and IPAD2..... My bad. (long week)
However, skype (audio) works fine on the android platform. I use it on my Droid all the time when I'm international. Cuts way down on my phone bill.
Apparently skype is working on a camera enabled android APK specifically for the tablet market, now that most of them have camera's. I wouldn't know about the G-tab though - Tigerdirect screwed me over big time so know I have to go hunt one down while I'm on the road.....grrr...
I pulled qik apk off my tmobile MyTouch 4g and it worked just fine.
I've used Yahoo messenger with video to vid chat with the wife and kids when I travel. No issues at all.
I am trying out reelportalhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908613&highlight=reelportal and really liking it so far.

I agree with brandonpavo.
The reelportal method is the best method for android to PC/Mac right now (hopefully Skype will get something going soon, and not just for iOS ).
I tested it with both a PC and a MAC on my GTab and it worked perfect!
Now the question is how long it'll be free. (I wonder this since reelportal is posting on xda asking for testers). but until then I will be able to video chat with my wife whenever I'm away.
thanks for the tip!

Thanks for testing it out. I intend to keep ReelPortal free. That's why I even make the server available, so anyone can run their own service. Imagine getting hold of a Skype server software .
My intention is to use ReelPortal as a foundation for developing other software I had in mind, beyond the video conferencing aspect.

Very good to hear. With a little refinement of the UI, I think you have a world-class app. Now that our son and daughter-in-law also have G-tabs, my wife plans to do some video chat with our grandchildren.
Fring is working nicely on latest [CM7][WIP] Honeycomb/CM tablet tweaks - updated 03.04.2011: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002000
I don't have my gtab yet, but my wife and I used yahoo messenger for PC to phone video calls on her EVO. It worked well, and I plan on trying it out as soon as I get the gtab.

Thanks nunja. I just updated the GUI a few days ago. Hopefully it's better, but I would really like to hear feedback and suggestions from users.

The phone functionality hasn't been realised, yet (maybe never). Use the app GrooVe IP and you're set:
Android Market Link
$3.99 on the Market and works through your Google Voice number. The call quality isn't perfect, but it's definitely "good enough." Give it a whirl and enjoy your phone calls.
Vietnam can't use google voice now, what regret...(
well it seems we have a way of getting video chat on our phones.
Thanks to sakisuren for this....
By using Vtok and the new gtalk from gapps it is possible.
Its based on gtalk and connects with your gmail account so no need for extra accounts!
New Gtalk Video
Flash this in recovery.
Vtok
Install as a normal apk/app
you won't be able to download this from market as it says its not compatible...but we have tried it and it seems to work.
I have contacted developer for support, so i shall see where this goes
We need this testing on wifi to wifi see if call connection does work!
happy videoing boys and girls!
Thats really great. will flash it and check today
just flashed and installed .apk. its working fine. Thanks a lot for the app
My contacts list is empty
I have tango and when i make a video call the other participant sees me upside down. Any idea to solve it?

that's the down side to video calling. its the app dev you need to talk to there...vtok is the same.
hi is there any rom for our phone that has video calling feature on 3G network?
if not, why?
is it unachievable or what?
@Mr.LOVER try third party apps. There are a lot of features that can be added to a phone, software wise.ROM devs usually try to keep their ROM size low, while maintaining a medium range of features. And most apps which you can easily obtain from playstore are usually excluded from the ROM.
I haven't tried videocalling with my phone yet.But I'm pretty sure you can videocall with this phone, just get an app for it.
Don't think any app can do real 3G video calling as it's heavily RIL dependant. I saw traces of such code in frameworks, but as it's not exposed anywhere I guess LG has abandoned it finally. How could it keep a stable connection if even single RIL standby crashes constantly?

i'm not talkin about video calling over internet like skype. i'm talkin about video calling through network call. and no 3rd party gives that option, if there is any app then please correct me and tell me it's name. i have free video calling on my network, it only charges me normal call rates even if i make a video call. but our phone doesn't have video call feature in dialer or in contacts.
so i was asking if any rom has it or not.

i'm sorry but i don't understand your language (technical terminologies). i think you're saying it's not possible for any dev to add this feature in a rom? or even through xposed framework?

Short answer: Yes, it's not possible. Long answer: There is always a chance that someone takes the challenge and extends the code, but it is probably an enormous work and might not even be possible.
