Is there a simple UnrEVOked style root access like the Evo for the Hero?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G using XDA App
For 2.1, yeah. It's based off of Unrevoked.
if you look at unrevoked.com it says for Hero too. I ran it, it worked just fine.

Ok so I used universal androot to root my phone, now what.every thing looks thee same.

you need to read the stickies in every part of the hero forum and do some google searches and you will see what you need to do. after about two weeks of reading and lurking here you will have all the info you need to make your phone awesome.
heres a good first step for you though
flash a custom recovery, then flash a custom rom.

Rooting your phone wont change the way it looks... you just have root access, that gives you the ability to change any thing you want... like the way it looks.

Now you want it to look different ?
Now you get to decide how you want it to look and operate. Your going to be the one doing this so you got some more work ahead of you... so you best get at it.( You actually didn't think it would be magically different by just rooting it did you ? ) That my friend is just the first step of the actual process..Now...go look at all of the different custom roms built for it and all of the different custom themes available..then... once you have a good idea of what you would like on your phone..start reading all you can about the rom & theme of your choice.Start at the beginning of the threads and read everything there..all of the issues and all the problems folks may have had and how they got fixed. This will save you a-lot of grief once your actually ready to make the switch.
I have found there are plenty of good folks here that will help you once you make up your mind of what you want to do to your phone..
Good Luck...& Good Reading to ya

Incdoes mentioned the 2.15.00.11.19 radio on his twitter. This is an EVO radio. Please be sure to check the MD5 sum before install. Be advised this has the potential to brick your phone.
So far this one is getting mostly positive reviews. So give it a try.

IncredibleDoes put it up on his Twitter page, saying:
Here is the new EVO radio.img for those that want to flash on their incredibles. I have not tested the new radio.
I am guessing that is why it is in this forum...

Exactly why...I didn't even know you could do that but don't think incdoes would steer wrong

I can't say that explains alot. The EVO and INC may be able to share ROMs and Kernels with some work , but i seriously cannot believe the radio software (which is at a hardware level, and is the only things that WILL brick a phone) would swap between them. The radio file controls the software for the radio, GPS, camera, and i highly doubt they would be compatible at all.
So i second the question - why is this here? It has nothing to do with the INC.
I thought the 9.01 radio was from the evo..

Thats what i thought as well and thats what i am using
I flashed the link from IncDoes after aiccucs posted on Twitter that he did it with no problem.
It update the baseband to 2.15.00.11.19 (The previous radio leak was 2.15.00.09.01).
All radios and camera continue to work as expected. It hasn't been long enough to report on battery usage or other performance.

just put the PB31IMG.zip in the root of your sdcard, and hold down volume down and powerbutton and load bootloader and it will finish the rest for ya
GOOD LUCK!
also FYI guys, the evo and incredible are EXTREMELY similar phones. Havent you noticed how its possible to port roms between the evo and inc without too much effort? remember the old days of WM when you could exchange radios between the diamond and touch pro? yes, the Evo has wimax, but its a separate radio flash. the part we are flashing corresponds to our 3g and 2g radios which are the same on evo and inc. I would know...i have both phones too...
Worked for me.. no discernable differences..
Not true at all the Eris and Hero radios were completely compatible. "BUT" A SURE WAY TO TRULY BRICK YOUR PHONE IS A BAD RADIO FLASH. Lol...

EDIT:I have not tested this on 2.2 - I can only confirm that this will work on 2.1
First, install z4 root, located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=446145&d=1290341328
Once installed, click "root" and let the app do its thing. The app will root your phone, but will hang before it is able to restart. Let it sit for a few minutes before pulling the battery. When you turn your phone back on, ensure that superuser is installed to make sure your root was successful.

The Wildfire I rooted was sold by Alltel, and the phone most certainly does not have a sim card slot. What would the phone be, if not CDMA?
If not sure what one you have look on google images since there is a big difference

Is this going to be any different than rooting with Super 1 click? I've already rooted that way, but if this will open up things better, I'll redo mine...

If you're running firerat mod, you need to run the remove zip first or it won't take. Then set it all back up again. If you're not, disregard.

^ Wcx recovery is in version 2.2 as stated. And that is the version I recommend to everyone
Although TWRP 2.6.3.0 seems to be working great for me, might be something to test
