I am receiving my new N1 Fri. Have been reading about rooting and all, does a new phone come with all the settings to the factory resets? Are there differences between my unlocked AT&T phone and others? If I choose to upgrade to new ROM's are my steps different? Been trying to figure it all out but unsure. Thanks
yes it comes with factory settings if its brand new.
upgrading to new roms won't be any different if you're on AT&T.
Link below is for nexus one in general, carrier doesn't matter.

Makes sense. If I do decide to install a rom I would only have to load the file onto the sd card and install? Are the advantages of the rom's better performance or features?Been spending a lot of time trying to get educated but too many ques.

Saw your post after I replied. So after reading, I wouldn't have to root for the Froyo install? Just the steps you listed? Is the reason for rooting going from one rom to a newer or different one? Or do others have to do that because their phones are locked? Mine is unlocked cause with AT&T.

all nexus ones are unlocked lol. and yes you do not need root for froyo and there are ways to downgrade to an official 2.1. an unlocked bootloader allows you to run unofficial roms cooked up by people and lets you flash anything you want.

you don't need root for froyo but you need the correct zip to flash.
theres one for people with root access and the other is signed by google.
you bought an unlocked phone but your bootloader is still locked.
just make sure you follow the 2 prerequisites first, then follow the instructions on that post. you'll be good to go.

So I would have to root to make my phone able to run Froyo? Correcting the zip to flash is making it able to run flash? I know it is elementary but not sinking in.

So basically, Nexus reads and loads roms etc like a computer? For new programs etc sometimes you need to upgrade driver ie zip to flash

nope... I must be confusing you.
- you do not have root access after flashing froyo
- no you don't need root to flash it
- follow the steps in the thread and you will be fine
You do not have to root to run froyo. There are two flavors of Froyo floating around the net. They are the same OS version, but each can be used on a different setup.
One is a .zip signed by Google that can be flashed on an untouched/stock Nexus One, i.e. a locked bootloader. It's just a simple option selection in the bootloader to enter recovery mode. Recovery is where the updates are flashed.
The other version of Froyo that is out there is one that has root enabled, which is not signed by Google, and can only be flashed using a bootloader that is unlocked. Remember everything is flashed in recovery mode. By unlocking the bootloader you are able to replace the default recovery (which only allows the installation of signed files) with a custom one. The custom recovery allows you to flash unsigned files, many of which have root access.
In short, unlocking a bootloader does not give you root. It simply provides a mechanism by which you can flash an update that has root.
The signed file is only available for the T-Mobile 3G frequency phone thus far. It can still be flashed on an ATT one, but additional steps are required.
Hi there,I'm chinese,yesterday I got a RUU base on 2.03.405.3(LEGEIMG_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.zip)in my legend. now,I connot root...SOS~

isn't that the version he wants ?
that version is rooted...
Yes, sure! But once used the RUU with 2.xx it is not possible to flash another ROM. So he also cannot flash the rooted 2.03.xxx. I am in the same situation - I am also waiting for the possibility to root my 2.xx ROM.

Which region/country are you in? What is the version of HBOOT you have on your IncS?

Since you have HBOOT 1.13, just go to http://revolutionary.io and gain S-OFF on your phone and then you can flash any ROM you want. The process of S-OFF and rooting will not change your 3G bands. These are determined by hardware in the phone and nothing you flash can affect these frequencies.
is there any tutorial for this?, having the phone I can get s-off any rom without having to make a GoldCard? and finally after installing the rom, I can again have s-on the phone?, should be able to do OTA updates where s-on?
thanks for your help ...... and forgive so many questions, but do not want to fail in anything.
on the issue of model id, because they have another model debrand rom id and phone number of virgin has another, nothing happens with this situation?

OK, here is a link to the official HTC Gngerbread 2.30.405.1 Unbranded ROM that has been rooted for you. You should be able to flash this from recovery and not have to worry about the modelid error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168796
ok, I apply this rom the phone, but what about when a new ROM available via OTA detect the phone?, because apparently this is a custom ROM.

It is only custom because it is rooted and the way you flash and install it. It is 100% stock otherwise. You will get the notification that an OTA update is available with this ROM, but if you attempt to update with the OTA it will fail because you have a custom recovery in place.

easiest way to 'jailbreak' your WP7 device is with a Custom ROM.
check out the tutorial in my signature.
i already tried it but when I get to the step where I have to use task 00 I get an error..
but an another question is whether it is possible to flash original nodo over original Mango and if yes how do I do that?
I had Official Mango too. Used the same signature links last week and everything works. Win7 x64, HTC HD7

yes, it is possible to flash a pre-Mango Shipped ROM specific to your device, but only if your OSPL isn't 5.x

Well thank you for your reply!
I am absolutely confused!
I just want to upgrade to your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition.
So... following the instructions under your signature, first i am trying to downgrade to a different radio with HD7_RUUWrapper_00 (Ex. 1.20.531.01 or 1.54.531.02 or 3.01.531.02) but the bar on my phone stucks at 0.00% and then i have the error 262. tried different pcs and different radios.
Is it necessary to change the radio before doing that upgrade?
And is it possible to make that update via zune? (i mean to copy your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition files at some specific zune's folder and complete then the procedure some-how?
Thank you once again!

if you have Bootloader 1.54, you don't need to downgrade OSPL first with SPL_Signed.nbh
though, you'll need to XSPL before you can flash a Custom ROM or Unsigned Radios.
i do not believe it is possible to do that via Zune.
You bring up the configuration of your phone
I am wanting to downgrade my SPL so i can install an unlocked ROM on my HD7.
The OSPL is 5.0.2250.1
I have looked at many threads but am just getting so confused.
I have also tried the ansar thread but cant download the file from rapidshare.
Can any body post the right links for me to do the downgrade?
Im not new to Rooting/jailbreaking/unlocking devices But WP7 has me stumped.

you have Asia WWE...
if you are looking to flash a Custom ROM... you'll first need to downgrade your Bootloader.
OSPL is a stock locked Bootloader.
RSPL is a temporary unlocked Bootloader, which reverts to OSPL after reset.
HSPL is a permanent unlocked Bootloader, which replaces OSPL.
you'll need to downgrade your Bootloader, in order to XSPL.
i wrote a tutorial, link is in my signature.
refer to Step 07 or Step 08.

See bold print , and also I cant do the goldcard way.
you won't be able to use ansar's SLSPL, it is for Europe only. you have Asia WWE.
you needn't need the goldcard, only the method of doing it.
the goldcard way looks more of a hassle , Might just leave it.
Thanks for your help dude.
