Stock Email, Partial Wake, and Battery Life - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running Froyo - as of today FRF83.
Has anyone noticed problems with the stock Email app and partial wake? I have two accounts set up, one IMAP and one Exchange. Both are set to sync messages Never as I want to sync manually when I access the mail account. I've even stopped all sync of the Exchange calendar. Regardless, I find using the Spare Parts shortcut to Battery History that the Email keeps a partial wake lock for well over half the time that my phone is on standby. I had my phone on complete standby after unplugging for about three hours right after unplugging, and I found a "partial wake" lock was in effect for Email for half that time. My battery life decreases by a few percentage points every hour.
The only way I can avoid this happening is to use a Task killer to kill the Email App along with stopping the service in the Applications setting. If I do this, I see no Partial Wake held by Email. And I find that I can go a few hours on standby and see my battery indicator stay put with no percentage change. Unfortunately as soon as I either launch the Email application or reboot, the Email service is back running and I have to go through the process again.
This also happened on FRF72. I just got my Nexus One and never really had my email set up until FRF72 so I don't know if this is a new issue or an existing one. Hunting around the internet I couldn't find much about Email app sync problems.

Additional info
Just some added info. I did a bit more testing, and it appears this is only an issue when an Exchange account is added. If I leave only an IMAP account, I do not have problems with partial wake.

Battery is draining due to WiFi partial wake lock on Android system process

Hi all,
After noticing my battery was draining quickly, and then after reading this thread , I installed Android System Info to see what was draining my battery so fast. I notice that whenever I would turn on WiFi, the phone will never go to sleep , regardless of what I set the WiFi sleep policy to. After turning off WiFi, the battery still drains heavily.
The WiFi will shut off after 15mins (if you set it to "When screen turns off" or "never when plugged in"). However it seems to keep the CPU on causing it to drain down the battery.
It would seem that whenever WiFi is enabled, the Android system process creates a partial wakelock that does not go away even if you turn off WiFi, and even when the WiFi shuts off as per the WiFi sleep policy. The only way to resolve this is by powering off or rebooting the phone.
You can verify this in Android System Info by going into Battery-History-Other Usage-Partial Wake usage to see how much time the "Android System" process holding a partial wake.
I even did a factory reset on the device; and it is still happening so it doesn't appear to be any app that caused the issue. As I said, it works fine as long as I don't enable WiFi.
I already know of two users having this issue, but I'm wondering if folks having battery problems are going through this as well. Is anyone else having similar issues after using WiFi? I'm hoping someone will be able to identify what exactly is putting the wakelock on and we'll be able to find a fix for it. Other than not using WiFi at all or rebooting the phone after using Wifi.
Does someone know if there is a utility to drill down and see which process would be causing the wakelock? "Android System" doesn't give me any more details.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
btw I'm not using any battery savers or task killers.
Update...i have the wifi sleep policy set to "never". Also have the network time sync disabled. I am no longer getting alot of battery drain from the Android System partial wakelock.
However, this means WiFi is on all the time....which burns up the battery as well.
Do you think this is a Samsung bug or Android that won't properly let the device sleep when the WiFi sleep policy is set to anything but Never?
Hoping someone at XDA can figure this one out.
I wonder the same thing...I lose about 20% during the night when the phone is not used for about 7 hrs. Not sure if that's normal or not

Set the WiFi sleep policy to "Never" and reboot the phone. Shut WiFi off if possible overnight. You should notice a big improvement with battery life.
Devs - is there any way to see what is wakelocking the Android System process?
The WiFi sleep policy seems to be broke on the Captivate so hoping someone that really knows these things can help out to identify what is going on.
I've had wifi sleep policy to "never" since I got it. Turning off wifi when going to sleep will slow down battery drain when the phone is not in use all night?

It should. Also setting the network to gsm only will use less battery. We need to find a way to see what process is holding that lock. Any dev experts out there please chime in.

That is anything but normal unless you live where your cell signal is very weak. I see about 1% lose every 60- 90 minutes when idle. 10-12% when browsing or reading xda. Dont do heavy gaming do not sure what you should see there. Weak cell signal will kill battery life as can other factors.
I do have a weak cell signal at my house. I'll have to ck it in idle mode in my office, where I have a good signal to see if that makes a difference
On the other hand I just recently installed beautiful widgets and use it's live wallpaper. Also lookout..I'm thinking that could be a battery hog
I'm experiancing the exact issue in the op.
Android System is holding a partial wake lock of about 30-40%
My battery drains 40% overnight.
Are there any fixes for this?
The problem for me was definitely the stock email app continuously polling my Exchange server, killing the battery and my data plan. I resolved it by removing the Exchange server from the stock mail app, and by using Nitrodesk's excellent Touchdown app for mail instead. Touchdown isn't free but it's very good. And now my battery performance is back where to it was prior to the Gingerbread update.
Thanks, Google, for carefully testing this update before releasing it on the unsuspecting public (NOT). You caused a lot of grief for a lot of people.

I may be wrong, but isn't the default email app from Samsung?
Though, you are correct. I setup my work exchange on it as well and it is definitely a killer. Lately I haven't really been giving a **** and just charge my phone every night. However, I might look into this Touchdown app now.

for the stock email app you can configure the sync schedule so it doesn't continuously poll your exchange server overnight. i have my sync schedule set to push when i normally wake up and an hour after i get off of work. during off peak hours its set to manually update.

Another UNL3ASH3D battery investigation

ANYONE USING THIS [email protected]$$ ROM, YOU'RE INPUT IS VALUABLE.
It seems some are having the problem and some are not. I think for a community as strong as we are, it should NOT be too hard to figure this out.
**If you are having battery issues, please post anything you have done to you're phone that is not standard in the ROM. (i.e. Apps you've downed, mods you have done, etc)
**If you are not having issues, look over these lists and verify, by saying "Nope, it's not that app/mod because I've done that and am not having issues"
Just to set a standard, if you are seeing 12-18 hours on standard battery with moderate to high usage, you are NOT having a battery issue... This device is dual core, 4g, miniature computing giant.
If you, like many of us, are seeing >10% an hour with no usage (i.e. Battery dead in 7-9 hours), you do have a battery issue.

I'm experiencing this issue as well. I am running UNL3ASH3D v1.4 with the following modifications:
BLACK SWYPE/GMAIL (although the black gmail didn't work with mod like it did with v1.3. Swype is black though and working just fine. just a side note.)
I've reflashed v1.4 at 100% battery after wiping cache, dalvik, and system /system followed by a RESET of battery stats last night around 1am CST.
Hope this helps. I will try to follow this thread to contribute as much as I can.
I was getting 15% an hour on standby...But I ran the calibration, and now im getting 12 to 14 hours with normal usage.
I will say this to people...In the beginning, whenever I tried the calibration, it wouldn't do anything. After trying a few times, I noticed that after I did teh calibration, I had to wait about 2 to 3 days, til I noticed an increase in performance. Not sure if others saw this...
I went back to debloated rom. My battery drain was bad on extended battery. Now its back to getting all day moderate to heavy use and still have 30% or so before nighttime charge.
Rom is sick dont get me wrong. Something is just not right with the battery stat.

I am on UNL3ASH3D 1.4 and I have the extended battery. After a day of moderate to heavy use I had 60% left at 11PM last night. My battery life is excellent. Here's the advice from NoBloatware (at DF) that I followed:
consider doing a factory reset. Do not sync apps, wifi connections, etc. with Google services as that may cause a problem. Install all apps and wifi connections from scratch. A bit of a pain, but not too bad.- install a home/launcher replacement. I use Go Launcher EX, which is free, and I love it. No reason not to try out an alternative launcher as you can always go back to how you had it.
- don't use an automatic task killer--not even the one that comes with the phone. Reboot your phone and look at what's running. If anything that you've installed is running and there's no reason for it, then uninstall it and find an alternative that behaves. Ignore any stock apps that run on boot as I've found them to be more or less benign.
- weather widgets, live wallpapers, news/social feeds, any app or service that you use that runs--do without it if you can.
- don't use antivirus
- the DLNA app pops up a dialog box that will set your WIFI sleep policy to never. The default is "turn off when screen turns off" and I personally think that this setting is the best thing for battery life. Under wifi settings view your connections then hit menu to see "Advanced options" where you can set the sleep policy
- if you have access to wifi, leave it toggled on as it is more efficient than 3G. This is different from the sleep policy.
- I leave GPS toggled on too by the way. Apps use it as needed. When I'm done with Maps or an app that uses it, I'm sure to return to the home screen so GPS can stop. Under wireless settings turn on "Google location services" so that an app is able to use network resources to get your location instead of GPS. I have "VZW location services" turned off--don't know why that option is even there. By the way, I increase the speed of voice output > text to speech > speech rate because I like the directions to get spit out faster. That saves a bit of battery. Turning off the display and just listening for directions help. Also, often I just get the directions and then exit back to the home screen: GPS uses so much battery I try to get it over with ASAP.
- when you get a new battery, do a factory reset, or an OS upgrade run your battery all the way down until the phone shuts off and then charge the battery all the way up. This will callibrate the phone's understanding of the battery's capacity. Do this once every month or two also, but don't do it too often if you can help it.
- I have my battery set to "Performance Mode" and data is on all the time because I am on call 24x7. If you don't mind, try out a more conservative battery profile to save more gobs of energy.
- set screen brightness to "Automatic"
- under Accounts, click on any account listed and turn off sync for any items that you're not interested in syncing. For example, Google Books if you don't use it. Don't use Backup Assistant--I prefer syncing my contacts with Google. You don't need both. Also go into your contacts > menu > display options > backup assistant > UNCHECK. Also do contacts > menu > more > settings > contact storage > and select your Google account and "remember this choice"
- if you never use bluetooth then toggle it off. If you do use it sometimes, it's fine to leave it toggled on all the time.
- consider turning off voice privacy. This may not be a big deal but it will save some processing (and therefore battery). It may also improve call quality.
- turn off haptic feedback, animations, and any un-needed sounds in Android settings and in your apps
- set your screen timeout to as low a time as you can stand (I use 1 minute) and manually turn the screen off when you're done using the phone. I use an app to lock the screen so I don't wear out my power button...as happened on my original droid.
- turn off in-pocket detection
- keyboard: turn off vibrate on keypress and sounds for any keyboards you use
- use a red screen background. On the original Droid screen--not sure about this Droid 3 screen--red was the most efficient color that could be displayed. Anyone know if this still holds true?
- camera app: i like keeping location on and flash on auto. Consider turning location off or at least returning to the home screen ASAP when using camera if location for camera is on.
- in stock browser the default home page is Google and it uses your location. This is a bad idea as it can waste your battery for no reason. Make something else your home page and make sure to close any web page that uses your location when you're done viewing it.
- charge your phone via the wall charger instead of computer USB as it is faster. Also, don't use long USB cords--use regular power extension cords instead. I stick with the charger that came with the phone.
In addition to those suggestions I also do the following:
1. Emails: I don't know what email app you use, but try this. It saves battery power and in some cases emails arrive quicker. This scheme will have you using only the Gmail app on the phone for all email accounts whether they are pop3 accounts or Gmail. Go to the Google Gmail inbox on your computer and log into the Gmail account. On the top right of the screen is an option called Settings. In there is an option to have the Gmail program poll your regular, non-Gmail accounts (From the inbox; Settings/Accounts & Import/ Check mail using POP3). Provide the email address and the password. The Google Gmail program will then poll your other accounts on a frequency from 1-5 minutes and push the email immediately to your phone. The polling frequency is determined by each account's activity - more emails = faster polling. This saves battery power because on the android OS pop3 accounts are polled at a frequency of 1-30 minutes and that really eats battery. Because the phone goes and checks those accounts for mail whether there is mail there or not.
2. If you are using Live Wall Papers, stop!
3. Use wifi any time it is available. It uses a lot less power than 3G and it is much faster.
4. If there are widgets that automatically update (facebook, weather, etc.) change their update frequency in their settings menu. Set them to 30mins or 1 hour.
5. If you use an Ad Blocker, turn it off.
6. If you are using Launcher Pro, try Zeam or Go or QQ.
7. Reboot the phone once per day.
Good luck.
I have the battery issue
I have the battery issue and the only apps I have that would maybe affect it would be juice defender (which I thought would improve battery life if anything) and chainfire 3d. Those are the only apps that I have that I would think are an issue. I only get maybe 6-8 hours of battery life and I am running Unleashed V1.4.
P.S. Geezer I don't think everyone has to have those exact settings to get a good battery life, not to mention no one wants to spend the time doing all that BS when its an issue with the ROM somehow because when flashed to stock ROM no problem.
Why the battery issue only effects some.... No idea. I really believe it is a app that is not playing well that the ones having issues have in common.
I have been on stock for the day after the debacle last night, and it is the first time I had to use my car charger... Really I don't one. But.... a preventive measure is a battery script that I am adding to the init.d in 1.5. I am really hoping it helps those having the issue.
There are 3 things I have always accomplished in my ROMs ... Great battery life, zero lag, and fluidity. 2 out if 3 isn't bad.... But I want the trifecta. Lol

ANY OTHERS? The developer is obviously cognisant enough to monitor these threads and take consideration. Put in your two cents.
Is anyone using the corporate email app with an exchange account and having GOOD battery life?
Is anyone using 3dchainfire (or any of the others mentioned above) WITHOUT irregular battery drain?

I installed the ice cream theme posted in the theme section and unl3ash3d 1.4 at relatively the same time.... I love the theme, but if that is causing battery issues it's gone.. My battery drains drastically now(down to 85% in an hour). when I was running1.3 with adw ex I was at 14hours heavy use...going to my nandroid to see what happens.
no other mods or apps..

I had the 100%-charge-to-dead-in-6-hours voodoo on me since v1.4 came out until last night. I factory reset, reinstalled and have been adding an app every few hours since this morning. As of now, I am getting FANTASTIC battery life...
I am currently at 19H 49M on the STOCK battery, with 31% remaining... That's with 6 of those hours running WI-FI, almost 4 hours of display time on. Yesterday I'd have charged three times for that many hours.
As of now, I've reinstalled the following apps:
RomManager
Titanium BU
GoLauncher
Beautiful Widgets
ES File Explorer
Handcent
K9
XDA Prem
Multiple GO Themes
All of these seem to be behaving pretty well together so far. I was going to add the extended battery tonight, but the results so far make me want to keep riding the wave one app at a time with the stock battery so that I can get an apples to apples comparison. Honestly, several of the apps I've already reinstalled are among those I considered likely culprits. If I can even APPROACH battery life in the long run such as I've experienced today I will be ecstatic.... LOVE THE ROM!
Hey all, I am _NOT_ having a problem, getting 2 days out of mild use and 1 full day (18 - 20 hours) out of moderate use.

Dood. This is really some great news. I still have the voodoo but I'm hopeful. I did the battery cal this afternoon at full charge and it's just now going fully dead. I was going to see how it worked out for a few days but looks like the ROM is being updated and I'll be flashing again tonight.
Do you have any apps frozen or removed?
How did you do the battery calibration? Does the factory reset include the stats?
I want to emulate what you have done.
Still curious about exchange accounts. Anyone NOT having a battery issue that uses a corporate email?

I've not uninstalled or frozen ANYTHING - I've intentionally been minimizing any variables, hoping to isolate an app or app-combination which is delivering the hit.
My process was:
-Full factory reset.
-Flash v1.4 per DT's instructions (wipe cache/dalvik, format /system).
-Wiped Battery Stats via recovery
-Booted up (already charged to 100%), then unplugged and let her rip, installing
the apps listed above 1 at a time every couple of hours.
Haven't change anything else at this time. As far as battery calibration, all I've done is wiped stats and and letting it full discharge - so no real "calibration" to this point.
Can't help you with the exchange issue, only sync'ing 4 exchange accounts.
ETA: I realize that much of the wiping/formatting was redundant after the factory reset, but it only took a minute or two, and I wanted to start as clean as possible. I'm not entirely up to speed on the mechanics behind each element.
One thing I noticed was that prior to this my battery info screen showed a solid blue bar for "awake", it is now a nicely "dashed" line properly coinciding with actual time used.
lots of apps but "always running" google music, WSJ, SMS popup, battery indicator, photobucket, advanced task killer
"mods" = root
extended battery, moterate usage = 70% in 3hours
I have the problem, and it seems to have become worse since I recalibrated the battery (twice). I'm running UNL3ASH3D 1.4 (which I love, BTW) with no modifications or task killers. OFC, I haven't tried all the battery-maximizing tips listed by Geezer Squid, but IMO if you have to disable half the features of the phone to get a day's standby, something isn't right.
Running Unleashed 1.5, fresh install, im down to about 85% after 20 minutes. Only installed ADW launcher EX
I am back to stock deodexed. I'm going to recalibrate the battery, do a couple complete backups, and then try flashing 1.5 after completely wiping the device. Maybe the regular sequence (cache, Dalvik cache and /system) is not enough?

[Q] Best settings for optimal battery life?

Hey,
What would be the best settings for optimal battery life?
- Brightness: I set backlight to +/- 50% in the menu. I disabled auto-backlight as I like my screen brighter generally.
- Screen lock: I set 2 minutes.
- Exchange: I have my work e-mail connected through Exchange. I just set the "Peak times" setting. I normally don't receive e-mails after work or during weekends, will that make a big difference?
- E-mail: I have (obviously) a Gmail account, however I do not use it for e-mails, I have one almost only because of the Market and other Google services. Can we disable push Gmail? I looked into the Gmail app and into Accounts and Sync and couldn't find anything, unless I missed something. I use mainly my (sigh) Hotmail account through the Hotmail app. I set it to update every hour.
- Facebook: I have initially synced my phone contacts with Facebook, but don't require update the minute a change is made. I set the refresh interval at 4 hours.
- "Always-on mobile data": Not exactly sure what this is, can anyone clarify? If that matters, I usually disable LTE as it's a battery-drainer and I don't necessarily need that much speed; HSPA+ is more than enough for me.
- Location Services: I turned everything off. I hate "checking-in" somewhere and barely use Google Maps/Navigation. I usually enable and disable when needed.
Can I change anything else to get a better battery life? I LOVE my Raider, but the battery has to be the worst I have ever experienced.
Thanks for your help!
I have the same settings but the exchange and the brightness (which is set to auto) plus location on. I get about 10 hours of use till the battery hits ~15% with 2 hours of screen time. I can't call it awful because I don't need more than that, as I charge it every night.
Unless you have a widget or an app that drains it really bad or you need more juice, I would suggest to keep the settings you like/want/need and get an extended battery.

Sharing my settings
I usually have the following settings:
- Turn on Wifi, GPS Satellites, Mobile Network only when I need them.
- Use less widgets
- Sound: Disable Quiet ring on pickup, pocket mode, flip for speaker, vibrate feedback
- Display: Sleep 30 seconds, brightness 45% is good for me
- Account & Sync: I disabled the accounts I don't use (News, Stocks...)
- Disabled keyboard key vibration
hope it helps and apologies if any of this is abvious
Haven't thought about the keyboard feedback, I assume it'll make some sort of difference. I'll try it out.
I don't make/receive that many phone calls, so I can definitely live without the "flip for speaker" and "pocket modes".
Silly question: I've returned my phone back to stock Rogers through the RUU last night as I need to send the phone in for a faulty headphone jack (had unlocked bootloader + running RumRaider Beta 11), and I noticed the battery was significantly better today with it than when I was running RumRaider. Using the same widgets on my home screens, same accounts (Exchange, Hotmail, Facebook, etc), mostly same settings.
I even forgot to turn off LTE so it has been on all day (don't get LTE in the office, I guess it's been searching for it all the time?) and even with it on, battery was better. Can a ROM affect battery life that much? Can it have something to do with the kernel or anything like that?
I sound a bit n00b, my apologies lol I know how to unlock a bootloader, how to flash a recovery, flash a ROM, and I understand the concept of the inwards of a phone like a Raider, but I'm unsure how software can affect hardware (i.e. the battery).
Anyway, I'll tweak the settings a bit as per your recommendations guys and see how it goes from there!
(P.S.: I'll miss my Raider as of next Friday, I'll have a BB Bold 9000 w/o a data plan for 2+ weeks...)

If the phone is over clocked or the gpu is messed with, it can change your battery life for the better or worse. Not sure about RumRaider settings so can't tell you why you got bad battery life out of it.

Well, the clock one would if you had it enabled with location, check weather when screen unlocked, etc. Email would be a battery abuser if you had it check for email and send it to you every time you got one.

it's the same thing like laptops as well... some apps are either poorly developed or they just use more processing power (or other resources like GPS, bluetooth...). and the more processing power is used, the more battery power it consumes.
you can always check the battery information under settings, and see what consumes your battery the most. (Settings > Power > Battery Use)
Mine is consumed by Screen, Wi-Fi, Cell Standby, Phone idle,...)
you can get programs to analyse it, and give you more info on apps and their battery consumption.
I found Wi-Fi consumes much less power than mobile network. When leaving the phone connected to Wi-Fi over the weekend with a few texting and moderate email internet browsing, I got 24h and still 53% remaining.
BTW I have two Google accounts synching and one voip app always running. Brightness is around 20%.

Operation Tweak Stock

I've seen a lot of people complaining about battery life, and while I've had my Atrix HD only for a few days now (coming from an Atrix 2) I've had pretty good success w/the stock battery. I was initially bummed that we can't root yet, and with that comes the inability to turn off 3G/4G/LTE when the screen is off as well as other build.prop tweaks. I will be doing the EB40 battery mod, but before that I wanted to ensure I was getting the most out of my stock battery. I've done some things to get me the most life from my battery and many are just a reflection of my personal habits when I use the phone. Once size doesn't fit all, but hopefully you can use a few of the tricks here to improve your battery life. We can use this thread to share our results and findings.
Yes some of these are no-brainers, and we're not going to discuss the fact that using wifi, bluetooth and GPS all day will drain your battery. I operate on the idea that if I need it, I'll turn it on. I don't need every single one of my accounts synced to the split second. Half the time my phone is sitting next to me while i'm at my computer. Of course others live and breath through their phone. I don't care to be bugged every 5-10 seconds by my phone; got better things to do....but that is my style.
I will post some screen shots of my system as I complete some other tests. The first test I will do is turn off data and background sync and see how many days this phone can last w/out a charge. Other tests are TBD.
So here is what I've done so far.. While all of this is no more than enabling/disabling and configuring items, I still will take no responsibility if disabling any features/apps breaks or harms the your installation of your phone or bricks it.
Enjoy

Deep Sleep
This one is critical, in fact I didn't have good battery life until I was positive that the phone was entering deep sleep when it was idle (cellular data on or off, it doesn't matter). I used Better Battery Stats to determine this. I'd set a custom reference point, lock the phone, wait 1-2 minutes and then look in BBS. If i didn't see any Deep Sleep time, i'd uninstall or re-configure apps so that the phone would remain asleep. Even if you see a high % of 384mhz and no deep sleep, you will loose battery power. Low CPU usage is NOT the same as deep sleep. The culprit i've honed in on is Beautiful Widgets. I'm suspect this app, despite telling it to only update the weather every 2 hours does not let the phone enter deep sleep. Further testing is needed to confirm.
Accounts
Sync only contacts
I have one account (exchange) that has its calendar synced
Manually sync other items when you need them
Background Sync
All apps have any kind of notifications and sync turned off, this includes ebay, words with friends, facebook twitter etc. Again, when you need to see an update, manually update/sync.
Social Apps syncing? - NO
Email Client - I'm using Enhanced Email, I'm not using the stock email client or the gmail app.
# of accounts: 3 (2 are gmail, 1 is exchange)
Sync: Check every 15 minutes
Using Gmail client - NO
Smart Actions - This alone is a huge battery saver, over night my phone only looses 1-2 % of battery life. By the time I pick up my phone at 8:30am, my email is already synced and i haven't lost any battery power. My reson for doing this is that I came from a Blackberry about a year ago. They had a great feature that would put the phone into a super deep sleep, essentially a hibernate. Everything was off; this is the closest we can com to on Android, sans turning the phone completely off. I estimate if you use this setting all the time you would be close to the advertised 8.5 days of standby time.

Is Command Center kill the battery?

I see on my phone that the Command Center took 16% of my battery which is crazy. Therefore, I disable the app and my battery seems to be all normal now. I can get six to seven hour screen on time easily.
Just wondering if anyone else experience the same problem?
I didn't have it show in my battery stats, but I disabled it anyways.
Command center uses the GPS for the weather location. Disable the GPS/location services and the battery drain should go away.
I ran into the same problem as you (Command Center draining the battery). I found that removing the widget and then disabling the Command Center helped. I replaced it with an AccuWeather widget that uses almost no battery, although it was nice having the battery percentage listed on the Command Center widget.
Command Center drain
I agree with the previous poster. Command Center will cause significant drain if you have your Location settings on High Accuracy and if you have a lot of events in your Calendar. The Location setting allows the weather to update and be more accurate. For example, I'm in Denver and my Command Center says its going to rain in 68 minutes. I love that! It can use my location and weather info and predict how many minutes I have until it rains! The reason it can be so accurate is because I am currently on WiFi. Normally, I have my Location on Battery Saving, I only put it on High Accuracy for Navigation, so when I'm not on WiFi it just gives the temperature for my location. On the right side of Command Center it gives you updates about events coming up in your Calendar. For those it uses the GPS to tell you when to leave for that Meeting or to see if you're driving if you ask it to remind you to pick up something on your way home. If you don't want to use Command Center just remove it from your Home screen by long pressing on it and dragging it up to Remove. You don't have to Disable the app, it won't run in the background, no widget does if it's not on a screen
Another "vote" for removing the CC widget. I didnt find it all that useful anyhow, and its definitely a drain on the battery, much more than it needs to be.
Dumping the CC? I was just trying to get a little more out of it.

I guess I'm missing something here. I ran my phone with CC, GPS, Wi-Fi, playing podcasts, etc for 20 hours, it finished the day with over 50% left. As HongKongPh00ey said there are some advantages. I have decided to leave my GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFI on all the time, this 3900MaH battery doesn't care. The deal killer for me however is if I don't find the solution to
calendar appointments for other people showing up on the app.
I have the stock CC on my Turbo, running stock Launcher3. My question is how or even can I configure it. The 3 small dots on right of command center circle open the sides, 3 dots on left close it. When open it shows appointment times for appointments not on my personal calendar but apparently of all who share a calendar with me. I need to have a dozen co-worker calendars shared and synced with me, but to unclutter (when not needed), not all of them are set to display in the calendar program. My wife's is always displayed. How do I (can I?) configure Command Center to show only the appointments for my calendar?
Thx!
Allen
Command Center is pretty sweet, just set a custom location instead of using GPS and then there's no reason it would use much battery at all.
Yesterday, tried on my gf's droid turbo as well under battery saving mode with commander center. Just one night it kills almost 10% of her battery without any use and that's under location setting in battery saving mode. I actually really like the look and the convenience of this widget, but can't seem make it right with battery drain.
Command Center my biggest drain too

I'm disabling it until the next update. Light use of all else magnifies this #, but it's taking upwards of 25% of my reported battery stats. That's too much, with limited options for changing settings. (And I already have location set to Carrier+WiFi and not GPS as far as I can tell.)
Fwiw I have the command center widget on my G3 and it doesn't even show in my battery stats.
I know 2 other owners of this phone and CC doesn't show up in battery stats or seem to affect battery. Mine though, it causes drain. Only way I found to fix it is to switch to ART. Now it never shows up in my battery stats and I am getting rock star battery life.

Set a custom location, don't use network location or gps
there is something most definitely wrong with the firmware. I went to sleep with 90% and woke up with 8%. Over 7hrs, its said hangouts used 35% of the power. If its sleeping, not services should be accessed right?

You need to open the calender app, then hit the menu button in the upper right and select "calenders to display". From there you can disable other calenders that you do not want to be displayed such as "Contact's birthdays and events.
