"WOAH! What phone is that??"
You: "This is the Nexus One. Check THIS out..."
(What do you do when showing off your phone? And have you converted any iPhone/BBers out there? Let's hear some stories!)
I show them the live wallpapers, especially the live earth rotation one.
I also show off how well google syncs up.
As well, I show off the youtube app, then that I have about 50 youtube videos downloaded.
I also show off the camera, damn good for a phone!
The keyboard, and how fast I can type on it(I can fly with this! Better than any hardware keyboard I have every used, although can't do it blind.)
Most of all, I show them how fast I can move from app to app, screen to screen, and what not... I usually do about a 2 minute demo that shows off almost the entire phone, and not once does it ever sit there waiting to load. That is the most impressive aspect of all!
I throw there phone to the ground crunch it with my boot then demand they kiss my phone as I pinch and zoom the pic of me crapping in a urinal.
OR
Do the "navigate to ___" to show them the turn by turn GPS nav.

Stock keyboard in landscape, portrait is a little small. One of the first things I do with any phone is type as fast as my thumbs can move, and I found that I could go way faster than I thought I could or would be able to...
I find myself typing really slow at times trying to make sure I hit the key, then remember that I can just start flaring away, and it will keep up. About the only thing I really do I can think of some might not is that I make sure I pull my thumb all the way up, partially and likely mostly easy and quick for me because I am a drummer and tap a lot, so am used to it. As well, I type with no fear!

Interesting, I've never tried typing fast. I get frustrated with on screen keyboards, I miss my G1 keyboard
Do you use the vibrate on keypress or leave it off? (If this has an effect on typing speed)
Where do you get the earth live wallpaper?

Personally I use haptic (vibrate)...we should start a keyboard tips and tricks thread
I have haptic, the vibrate thing, turned off personally... and yeah, when I type slow and deliberate I do much worse than when I just try to type as fast as I can, within reason of course. The only time I have a major issue is that auto correct will replace a word I spelled correctly with someting else, but I have been making a point of adding words to the dictionary so this is become a less common issue.
You get the earth live wallpaper in the market. Do a search for "live wallpaper" and it is one of the first 3 or 4... also, if you check the themes and apps section for the Nexus One, the dev has a support thread on here.
People rarely ask nor do I flaunt it, I never see anyone else with it. If they ask I would show them but I never have the live wallpapers enabled to show them right away, I would have to change the background just so they can be amazed by it

Ah, iPhone fan boys are the best! I had a customer come in with an unlocked iPhone a couple days ago, and I was finishing a text when he walked up... naturally, he asked what I had, showed it to him, and he said it was an iPhone clone... I said "No, it is a 1ghz Android OS Google Nexus One, see..." then showed him my live wallpaper and said "see, and iPhone can't do that"... it went on like this for a couple minutes... can your phone do this? Yup, and look mine is already loaded even though I started after you!
Then, I asked if his phone had google nav, with speech to text, speech to nav, speech to dial? Asked him to show me his background... If his iPhone had a 5mp flash camera? Expandable memory? It was brilliant!

Like others have said, point one I show them my spinning Earth Live wallpaper, that changes depending what time of day it is.
Then, if there's a decent print/piece of art/product I Google Goggle it. 'Yeah, of course its a can of coke', 'Okay, but can your iPhone detect that its a can of coke?', 'Erm...'
Then I point out widgets (nothing new I know, but iPhone owners don't have them) like the News & Weather widget.
Then I generally just show them how smoothly it can move in and out of apps and tell tham about the snapdragon CPU and 512 RAM and ROM, which probably no other phone this year will beat. I also point out the amazing OLED screen. Last night I had a 3Gs owner admitting he was leaning towards wanting one

No? I've been hearing about 800 RAM, 1.2-1.5 GHz chips and dual-core processors. Not that I feel I need dual-core in my phone (because holy hell, heating issues; see laptops), but there you go. Maybe not debuting any time soon, but toward the end of 2010, almost definitely.
I show them Layar, FxCamera, and Google Sky Map
Accurate would be too generous a term. The instant I set two fingers down to pinch zoom, the image already starts to float away.
Then, once I start spreading my fingers to zoom in, the image never zooms in on the part of the image between my fingers. It works perfectly in the browser, I just don't know why it doesn't work with the gallery.
Anyone else have this issue? I'd report it to the code.google.com website, but I can't find the exact link to the issues page.

This problem was less prominent on the previous version of Gallery. Granted, it still wasn't perfect, but there was no drifting.
There are alternatives to the stock gallery on the market (some are based on the Eclair gallery). I would recommend gallery 3D, but it has some issues.
I understand that a few of you have been using the phone. My contract has ended, and I'm really thinking about getting the Optimus 2X. I have read mixed reviews regarding the phone, and really want to hear from trusted XDA users.
So any advantages, disadvantages or verdicts would be really appreciated
Swedroid.se tested the phone a week ago, Swedroid is the biggest swedish community around Android, and its the only site I trust 100%! They said that its the best Android phone ever, they have tested so far.
You can check out the huge test here: http://www.swedroid.se/test-av-lg-optimus-2x/ (Its in Swedish though)
I agree with Hund. Swedroid does the best reviews you can ever see on the internet. They know their job and they test pretty much everything.
I've had the phone for a couple of days, so here are my first impressions:
Battery: I came from a Sony Ericsson X10i and the battery is a great improvement - can't give any stats though, but have pretty much been using the phone non-stop
Screen: Awesome screen with nice vibrant colors, good viewing angles and rather fair in sunlight.
OS: Everything is smoooooooth. Except when you change stuff like usb-mode. Then the media-player looks for new transferred media, but that is expected.
HDMI mirroring works like a charm! Great to show off and good when visiting people when you want to watch a movie.
Watched a couple of tv shows on a long busride today. Just standard 350mb .avi files that worked PERFECTLY! Even subs were crystal clear!
Camera - has some bugs with the blurryness, but I haven't really used it yet. Should be solved with a software update at some point.
I think that's about it.. BEST phone I've had so far and everyone I've shown it to was impressed BLING BLING

Do you use a Taskkiller like ATK or something. If you do stop using it, i had the same problems with those force-closes when using ATK. Also you have to bear in mind that it has stock 2.2.2 and most market place stuff is made for 2.2.1 .
My opinion on the LG 2x: I still can not believe it's from LG those guys really went in the right direction. I've had a BB9700 and a Galaxy S (darkys rom) and this LG really is a piece of work. The build is quite solid when compared to Samsungs Galaxy and the preformance is great. Battery live is about 130 % better then the SGS not 160 % as advertised.

I have this phone now for 5 days.
Before I had a HTC legend.
- speed is great.
- there is a lag in the lockscreen (when you press the power button you first see your homescreen, and a second later the lock screen)
- i didnt found a option for the email of my hotmail account to delete te messages from the server.
-I cant add wordt to my dictionary when typing a message.
- had several crashes while doing just nothing (scrolling through menus or something)
- a lot of programs start up by themself. and the advanced task killer is not automaticly closing it even when i put the setting on kill when screen is off.
overall a good phone, but it doesnt feel just that right like a HTC.
can anyone say something about multitouch on 2x? in a video i saw its capable to handle 10 points but more interesting would be if its now possible to pinch to zoom and move at a time.
e.g.: in browser you zoom in on a webpage and whlie zooming you move the centre of zooming to an other point like the upper right corner and it zooms to the new centre. ive seen this on windows phone and ios but android so far.

How do you set up your hotmail? I haven't been able to do that. On my X10i, when i deleted the messages of my phone, it didn't affect the server either, so maybe that's just they way android is set up.
The standard keyboard is pretty lacking in terms of features..
The random things you experience with programs could be due to the fact that you are using a task killer.. They only cause problems imo.

Thats a matter of principle
Hi all,
This is my first post in these forums but I've been lurking for some time. I just want to bring attention to a few minor issues I'm having with CM7.
1) Sometimes randomly, the main dock disappears and only comes back after a reboot. Anyone else experience this?
2) On the stock HTC Sense, all running apps, or recently run apps, would show up when I brought down the notification bar. For instance, if I was playing Angry Birds and decided I wanted to send a text, I could press Home, write the text, then quickly drag down the top bar and click Angry Birds, which would be sitting next to the Text icon ready to go. On CM7, the apps in use do not appear there (only Lookout security shows up under "ongoing"), so I have to go back into the drawer or choose the icon from the home screen. I found that having all running/recently running apps was very convenient to have on the drop-down bar.
3) When I first started using the camera it was okay, and then at some point every picture I started taking with the stock CM7 camera becomes extremely grainy. When I take a picture with other apps this does not happen, so I know it is not the hardware, but the actual app causing the problem.
4) Camera app menu is oriented only for landscape. Any possibility of changing this? Also [side note], the stock Incredible S camera used the entire screen for the picture which I really enjoyed - I haven't been able to find an app that does this on CM7
5) Contrary to what I've read, I find the audio is actually less powerful than the stock HTC Sense for Inc. S. Anyone agree?
6) On the mail app (not Gmail), there is no way to add mail to spam
These are all extremely minor issues. Overall CM7 is great, quick and lightweight. Kudos to all the developers on this, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say your work is beyond appreciated. You take the possibilities to enjoy these devices to the next level.
Hi key2gb, here's my experience with your above points:
1- This happened to me, but only once and it was fixed with a reboot. Although I thought it was because of ADWLauncher at first..
2- I hadn't realized this as I didn't get to play enough with Sense before moving on to CM7, but now that you mention it it does sound like a cool feature!
3- I have taken a few pictures with the CM7 camera and I haven't seen too much grain in the images. Maybe it depends on lighting and if the camera changes ISO's (I don't know if a phone camera can do this).
4- I am running CM7 Nightly#68 and the camera icons rotate when I place the phone in portrait "stance". Although I did overall prefer the Sense camera and have yet to find one in the market that comes close to it.
5- When you talk of audio, do you mean the front speaker, back speaker or headphone jack? I haven't used headphones with it yet, but as for the two speakers I have found the volume adequate for my needs as of now.
6- I only use Gmail
I have found that Nightly#68 "fixed" or added a lot of features from RC1 and since my switch to the Nightly build I feel that the phone is near perfection.
Thanks for the response. I am hesitant to switch to the Nightly build because I am not experienced enough with the tech-world yet, though I am getting more into it. It warns against non-experienced people using those so I don't mind waiting a few months for updates and more confirmation that the Nightly is completely stable. Then again, that's what backups are for, right?
For audio - I use my speaker phone for conference calls often and the speaker isn't nearly as loud as it was on the stock.
For the camera - it's a very strange problem on my phone because it only happens with the stock camera. You know how when you take a picture, as it's done processing the picture kind of sets into itself? Right after I take the picture, it sets and then it gets this weird staticy-grainy layer. It doesn't happen on other camera apps, just the stock. I use Streamzoo and that works fine. I really with I could get the Sense camera though it was really great.
I'm sorry I won't be able to furthur aid you as my knowledge in the field is limited. Hoping someone else comes along!
Although I was wary at first as well in trying the nightly builds. I gave it a try on #68 and it has been very stable (no problems at all).
For the audio, I just got an idea. Have you tried playing in the DSP Manager options? I don't know if there might be something there that might help a bit?
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Good idea, I'll play around with the DSP Manager next time I'm on speaker.
Why did Google remove the auto-flash in favor of auto-night mode in the camera app? I mean night mode works pretty well, but I'll take a picture in a pitch black room and it attempts to use night mode and is completely useless. Instead you need manually toggle flash on and off, which is hidden in the top menu and super annoying. Am I missing something?

You can always go to Play Store and uninstall Google Camera. This will uninstall the updates and give you Auto Flash back. I'm not sure what you'll give up though without the updates. Of course, if you have Play set to auto update you'd need to turn it off for Camera. I've turned mine back and don't see any difference in my photos.
Egh, that's a decent workaround. thank you
Still seems like an odd choice on Google's part.
People still use flash? I don't think I've ever used it
Shining a light directly on an object or a person you taking a picture of from the very same point the camera is at, is probably the worst lighting scenario you can achieve. Pretty much any semi-usable ambient light coming from a different angle should yield better results, as long as a camera is capable of bumping it's sensitivity, and the the "night mode", while technically is computational, is pretty much just an equivalent of that. Seriously, even just lighting that pitch black room with a "flash" of another phone (hopefully without shine it directly on the photographed object, though) will give you a much nicer picture.
Want a demo? Shine a flashlight (possibly the very same one, from your phone) on another person's face in a pitch dark room, from about the same distance you want to take the picture from. Hold the flashlight somewhere at your nose level. Now your eyes see exactly what a camera would, while taking a pic with that flash.
PS: IMO, removing auto-flash makes perfect sense. Kinda shifts people into using it as little as possible.

Yea, they do. To see some creative uses, Google "slow sync flash" and switch to images tab, but in general, flash is still very useful. This doesn't apply in any way or form to a mobile phone "flash" which isn't really a flash (too weak, fires for way too long to freeze motion, and that's in addition to being non moveable away from the lens).

You're advocating having a second phone or flashlight to add ambient light into the room? WTF lol.
Google should make it an option, if someone manually turn's off the flash, great use auto-night mode...But don't remove auto flash entirely. I don't need artistic pictures.

Agreed, there are some instances when I want to use a flash. Contrary to what some say, Night sight won't always give you the best photo and having that one switch isn't an option that should bother anyone, it was dumb to remove it.

What i meant is that pretty much any ambient light thats coming from a source that isn't at the same point (shining from the same angle) your camera is at would do better than a camera flash, and you can DEMONSTRATE it by using a flashlight or even a second phone. I don't advocate actually doing it in real life day to day pictures, turn your damn lights on and stop making a strawman.

Well agree to disagree then. I've been using cell phones since my first bag phone and have probably take hundreds of photos using the flash. Obviously you've either had bad phones or don't know how to use it because I can and do take good photos using the flash.
One thing i definitely agree about, Android is all about customization, and there would be absolutely no harm in providing an option to get either auto-flash, auto-night-mode, both or none.
Most of the pictures I end up taking are of things for work that I need to be able to read later. That's why flash is absolutely essentially. But also annoying when it's manually-on and used in bright settings (almost entirely because of the delay it adds to the capture).
I attached two pictures one of auto-night mode vs one with flash turned on... and this wasn't even that dark of a room.. auto-night mode doesn't work miracles. - I also dislike that since you're forced to hold the camera still for ~5 seconds, the pictures can end up out of focus.
This kibd of pic would really benefit from high ISO, would be noisy, but readable, and without the glare on the 3 phases column.
And i've just been surprised to discover that pixel 5 camera app (a feature being praised everywhere!!!), unlike Samsung, is completely missing manual controls. Damn.
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 PM ----------
As an experiment, can you download any camera app that allows manual ISO, and retake this pic in the same conditions, but without flash, without night mode, no complex magical stuff of any kind, just raise the ISO?
Running into this today trying to take pictures under the bathroom sink and it's too dark for the night site feature and I want to use the flash. They really should have an option that when it's really dark and muddy it'll use the auto flash. It could be defaulted to off and that's fine but there's a handful of times where the night site is just not going to work.
A real obvious need for flash is if you are a gig delivery person and you have to take a pic of the burger in the bag on a very dark doorstep. Night sight •might• work but it's not a situation where you want to be stading around for several seconds for the camera to do its work, all to yield a meh looking image that is barely in focus. Flash, boom, get out. That's what is called for in that situation.
