Theme (or un-theme) HTC dialer - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

I'm using the Sense-Able ROM and the theme on the HTC Dialer is too dark for me (I'm color-deficient). Myself and others have asked how to replace it with the stock app with no luck... The ROM author has offered to fix it when he has the chance but I don't want him to feel he has to.
In the meantime, does anyone have other "themes" for this dialer that I could replace it with ? Or, as mentioned above, simply replace it with the stock look (I'm okay with that).

you could also try the dialer one app. has both light and dark settings. works much like the HTC dialer.

I like Dialer One but HTC's dialer keeps popping up. For example, during a call and you have to hit a number following a prompt, HTC's Dialer will open...

I used Dialer One for a while till I decided I didn't like it. You should erase defaults for the HTC dialer, then when you click on your new dialer, it should ask which one you want as default. then press save as default, then click Dialer One. I think that's what I did? hah. Hope that helped a little...
Peace

I did a vanilla theme a while ago for the htc dialer, you can find it here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679909&highlight=vanilla+htc+dialer
If those apk's don't work you can always pull the png's out and add them to your own.

look around here, someone made a file that replaces stock with dialer one, so you can use the phone button on the rosie laucnher to launch dialer one

Got this one installed and running... Will see how I like it.
Can I ask, why did you remove the divider lines ?

This is done by simply installing Dialer One and removing HtcDialer.apk. Even if you are using the Sense launcher, tapping Phone will bring up Dialer One.

You can't "Clear defaults" on the HTC Dialer.

Need help with phone canvas

I use Matt_Jacksons blue theme and the new slide to answer phone canvas with the nice edition to cover the keys while in call.
However, Matt's theme came with a "kinda default" dialer and I would like to go back to the black on white original dialer to place calls.
Is there any way to do so by just replacing files?
I'm aware that the dialer in particular can be a very nasty animal... (been there done that on my Tilt).
I already tried to install PdG's VGA dialer hoping that after removal the original dialer comes back ... but .. guess you figured .. it didn't...
See my current dialer attached.
Edit: AFAIK the dialer is anyway skinable so an extract of the HTC dialer skin in VGA resolution would do, too. I have a Fuze so don't need video call.
Edit:
Cause closed showaco extracted two bmp files from the HTC dialer. Replaced them in the Windows dir... done. Thanks showaco!

AOSP 2.0 rom modding help needed

I love the AOSP build, but I'd like to change some of it...
Is it possible to get the sense keyboard on it (I HATE the vanilla one)?
And how do I remove the background on the lockscreen?
thanks for any help!

I believe to do much of this you need to modify the source. For the Sense keyboard you need the HTC frameworks which essentially makes the system an HTC Sense system anyway. I know back in the day Cyanogen released an HTC_IME.apk that would work standalone but I never got it to work on AOSP.
For the lockscreen, I believe this is part of the AOSP source as well but someone will need to confirm that for me.

I figured that much. I just don't know what .apk's to push. I flashed the signed IME from that new thread about stock Rosie, but it did nothing
I figure the lockscreen is just an image somewhere that I need to edit. I know the 2.1 build has a clear vanilla lock.
What don't you like about the keyboard? I think its just as good as the HTC one. Once you get the dictionary working properly that is. I posted up a thread just the other day on predictive text. Flips sent a link where you can get an updated IME file. Check it out. If you're still not happy, check out better keyboard apk from the market.

the layout is WAY off. and, the lack of a 'keyboard close' button, i cannot stand. plus, with the HTC one, i don't have to hit a button to get to my punctuation...
i've flashed the IME and that helped (i'm glad he had all the curse words. lol) but i'm still against the general layout...
i'm in love with the AOSP because its so minimal on the system memory that it makes my phone quick as lightning. i just want a clear lock screen and the Rosie keyboard...

Gingerbread Launcher2 APK

This is just the Launcher2.apk with a few Gingerbread icons. This goes great with this mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863860
Rename the file to Launcher2.apk and copy it to /system/app using root explorer.
This just changes the phone icon, web browser icon and app icon in the dock.
Enjoy!
Edit: Added screenshot.
When I click the phone short cut button. A message pops up saying app not installed

The app needs to be edited because that button points to the stock Android dialer, which is not used by Captivate.

The one on the market worked for me with the tw dialer.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/gingerbread-launcher/com.modaco.android.launchergb
I also tried the one from the market under "Gingerbread Launcher" and it installed perfect. Once I clicked the home button it asked which launcher to use, I mainly use launcherpro since it seems you can tweak things a little more but I checked it out and it kept my same background image. I did NOT uninstall the stock launcher in Perception so I had 3 choice to pick. Looks pretty cool though, I may stay with launcherpro though due to setting it up different with whatever buttons I want to use at the dock.
Cog'd Perception or Cog'd 2.3b6 depending on my need for flash addiction

Just download the icon pictures and then edit right on your phone, then put them in your dock. So easy even a caveman could do it.

changing dock buttons?

i hate that the right button is dedicated to enter the personalize screen when i can get there from a long press on the screen or with the menu button. is there anyway to change this to a messaging button or browser button or anything more useful?
i guess not w/o rooting the phone but after that... sky's the limit right??
Agreed wouldn't mind seeing that be internet shortcut or something more useful

Were these Sense skins or just another launcher with a Sense theme? I know alot of Launchers on the market have customizable keys at the bottom.
I was looking for the same thing the other day. Can't believe this isn't just a standard option.

Ok, thats why I asked. I was 99% sure you couldn't change the links in Sense.
You'll have to wait for modified rosie apks to emerge (or flashable themes that do the modifying for you)

Dialer keypad color issue with MM OTA?

Installed OTA yesterday. Anyone else not able to change dialer keypad from the mental hospital white? I would prefer a dark dialer keypad, which was available in Sense 6. The only option under personalize is default (white). Initially the same was true with the keyboard, but after changing themes in the new theme settings, I got other options for the keyboard that were part of those themes. Still only default for dialer keypad, and no theme change would change it either, so regardless of theme chosen I still only get white.
I looked around the forums and saw that some had the same problem with sense 7 ROMs running on M8 and M9. There was a workaround by uninstalling the dialer app, and then updating it or simply reverting back to sense 6 dialer, but I've no option to do that under the app (just force stop, no uninstall).
Kind of at a dead end in figuring it out. Don't care for the bloat of 3rd party dialer/phone/messaging apps, but might have to try one. I'm not into rooting or mods on my main communication device, and so this phone has never been anything but stock (except for apps available in the store, naturally). I did have Apex launcher as my app launcher at the time of OTA, but that should not have thrown a wrench into the update (at least I don't think it should have). My next step is to factory reset to see if that resolves it...which I'm not eager to do.
Any thoughts?
Use the themes app and download a new keyboard theme.
Not all themes come with keyboard recolouring...

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. None of the themes had any affect on the dialer keypad -- still just white --, even the ones that showed in the preview to do so. The keyboard was changeable with via applying themes.
Hmmmm, if it is a Sense 7 based Sense 6 ROM , it won't work, AFAIK the only official Sense 7 ROM is Stock Rooted, soon will also have Bad Boyz 4.0.
Try the stock rooted, then report back please!
I'm not running a ROM, I'm newly OTA updated with Marshmallow, so I'm stoock Sense 7. I guess I'm wondering if what I described (only white phone dialer keypad) is normal behavior for Sense 7. Like I said, I can't change the color of the phone dialer keypad from white, either in settings or themes. If this is correct behavior for stock sense 7, that's OK, and I'll explore other options by way of a phone app.
Again, thanks.
It doesn't seem like normal behavior, I'm on Stock rooted MM...that is literally just changing the theme for me.

Got it to work. Don't know what the problem is. Some themes that show a change to the dialer in the preview do change it when applied, some do not. Now to find a way to edit the theme and retain the change to the dialer.
Thanks for the help.
Same problem same solution. I've only got one theme that was actually able to change the dialer colour to black "darkside" but I hate everything else about it. Could you suggest any other
