Hi,
I'm not sure whether this should be open here.
I've been swyping ever since i got my sgs.
But as I upgraded into 2.2 (jph jpm) the swype's personal dictionary is pretty messed up.
I mean the contact names are all inside my dictionary and I had deleted the words everytime it prompts me to.
However it seems like the contact names are loaded into the dictionary everytime swype is activated.
Is it possible to get a fix on this? or any solution other than changing my input method?
Thank you very muc
q&a. ;p
anyway ye. swype has A LOT of bull**** words. they piss me off. Swype tends to add extra letters on my contacts.
example:
contact - jed
swype - jjjeeeddd
and words like arty, berti, tmr, 2mr. can't they just have ENGLISH words on it and users can then add anything they want manually?
dead pissed with swype, yet loving it.
I love swype, it's kind cool.
If only they could provide a better dictionary.
I think the older version of swype is better.
I wonder the other sgs user using what as input method

I personally never use Swype coz that would require me to hold the phone in one hand and "swype" with the other. For some reason it makes me feel I'm typing very slow ( even though I may not be). I use Smart Keyboard Pro and it's perfect! Very good dictionary/correction. Among freely available ones, my favorite is the Droid X multi-touch keyboard. It has a very accurate correction system too. Sorry if this is totally off-topic!

Thanks for the advice, I might look into the two you mentioned. I'll miss swype for now, it was cool to show off to friends, but in case of efficiency i guessed it's not so good at all
THANKS
Swype is efficient and will be the future once they improved dictonairies and android spreads further like a disease!
it only takes a few minutes to get used to and its pretty logical to "type" that way. I still use the samsung keyboard and I'm loving the improvements they did to it in froyo cause the dictionary is sometimes annoying and it doesnt support my language yet. I would use it alot if I was doing english mainly though
I too have a problem with swype in the newest firmware. Can any of you help me confirm it? It seems I cannot add certain words to the Norwegian dictionary (but works in other dictionaries). This is with the JP6 firmware. Please read what I wrote here:
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.p...-be-added-after-recent-SGS-i9000-froyo-update
Also - is it possible to change the swype version to an older one, specifically the one from XWJM9?
What keyboards are you guys using on your Droid Eris? I've tried so many but none can keep up with my typing speed. I can type so fast on an iPhone but when I type on my Eris, I always have to slow down because my phone is still trying to catch up or got stuck on one error or something.
I tried Swype but I'm just not as accurate as the regular keyboards.
Since I've basically lost interest in Swype because of their lack of releases for any new users, I decided to try SwiftKey.
I noticed they were running a sale (yep, guess Android dev's do that sometimes) so I decided I would try it. The text prediction is so good most of the time you only have to type one or two letters of a word. Not sure how it keeps up with speed, since I rarely type any full words. There's a free version you can try and see if you like it, just search "SwiftKey Keyboard Free" in the market and you'll find it.
I don't think I've tried SwiftKey, but I use Ultra Keyboard (Swype-like). Before that, I had tried Swype through several beta versions, but I thought it sucked, honestly. I preferred ShapeWriter to Swype; it worked better. ShapeWriter isn't available on the market any more, but I may have a backup of the last available version in an apk if anyone needs it (it was free anyway).
SwiftKey's text prediction is what got me hooked. In terms of "learning" it's one of the best keyboards, after about a week or two of moderate use you'll barley have to type anything anymore.
+1 for SwiftKey. I hate that it's bland whute and gray, but it's definitely the smartest keyboard. I too have tried them all, but keep coming back. My routine is this: flash rom, use themed, native kb for few hours because it looks cool, then break down and swap SwiftKey into system/app. The ability to have it instantly "learn" my language from my saved text messages is a nice touch aa well. It tracks saved keystrokes and I'm always @ 25-30%.

I've tried Swiftkey and I like the idea of it, but I find myself watching for the next word rather than just typing on through. I feel like a simple, fast keyboard would allow me to type the fastest.
I just downloaded better keyboard and it seems to be very responsive!!
I like the DroidX keyboard. Kaos has a thread on it in dev.

Why would you post something like this and not give us a URL so we can get it?
I was thinking the same thing.
I tried swiftkey and liked it but had a much better expeirence with swype seemed like I was making less mistakes which is always nice
I've been a big fan of smart keyboard pro lately. it's quite fast and accurate and it has a "dynamic key resizing feature" which helps improve it's accuracy. I think it's safe to say that it is my favorite keyboard and i've pretty much tried them all. swiftkey... swype... better keyboard... ultra keyboard... ect.
edit: Ohh and I forgot to add that it's auto correct is pretty kick ass too.

+1 to ShapeWriter. Been using it on my Eris since it was in the market. Very responsive. Im hooked on swipe keyboards now, touch typing takes to long for me.

I agree. I've been using gingerbread keyboard for several days now and have been very happy with it so far. I also just installed the new beta swype but I just can't seem to get into swype. I guess I like typing better than sliding my finger across the screen.

Hello,
I was sitting in my office today with my new Xoom in its charging dock next to my decent array of monitors and I thought to myself, hey, wouldn't it be cool if I could just drag my mouse over and use my tablet?
So I started investigating the potential for uses of Synergy with android and it seems more feasible with tablets in the market now more than ever, especially with the dock and it's nice resolution
I mean, checking and composing e-mail, small web surfing or using it for RDP or something of the nature for some quick tasks, or just for some media.
If you're like me and feel this could be a great idea, post in this thread and I'll see what I can do about getting the word out.
I know there is a smallllll project somewhere out there, but it doesn't seem to have any progress since last year.
Lets get the ball rolling!
iDisplay is already available on Android:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.idisplay.virtualscreen
Bad reviews for that app. Great concept though. I will try it.

This is already an accepted feature request by the Synergy project:
http://synergy-foss.org/pm/issues/572
If anyone decides to work on this, they should probably talk with the Synergy developers so that it's added as an official part of the project.
I cant get iDisplay to download from Market. Gives me an error. Both from phone and online market.
I looked at iDisplay, but after initial and subsequent read-throughs of the OP, I'm not sure that's exactly the concept he was talking about. To me, it doesn't sound like he wants to use his tablet as an extended display, but rather be able to control his tablet (and its ANDROID OS) using his computer's mouse and keyboard, but without the use of a program that simply duplicates the tablet's display on one of the PC monitors, but have the cursor and focus shift to the tablet as if it WERE just another extended display

Right-o good friend. Why would I want to use windows when android can do the little tasks I'd like? I think it'd a cool concept and have downloaded and tried the beta software for it on my Xoom, but its pretty early stages and doesn't have a mouse icon or much keyboard support.
Just trying to get people interested to further develop this awesome concept.
Thanks for the backup =)

I don't know about how everyone else feels, but I cannot use the swiping feature of Swype on the Aria. It's just too small for me to see what letter I'm covering up with my finger.
Also - when I use my left hand to "swype" and need to enter letters normally my right hand types, I slow down considerably.
In short - for me, Swype fails because of the way I typically type.
I can see this working better for larger screen devices or for people who have always used just one hand to type. But I find swyping very slow.
Just wondering how you all get around it (maybe use in landscape mode?)...
I have a Legend, (very, very, very similar in specs to the Aria), and I find Swyping in portrait works like a charm. Sure, it's a bit slow, but what can a little overclock not fix ;-)
I also find that Swyping in landscape is very inaccurate for me, probably because the prediction engines are adjusted for landscape use.

I have gotten so used to swype that's all I can use now. Get the "real" swype's from their website, not the fake pirated ones.
I have seen people swype in landscape and that just seems odd to me. swype was made to be fast turning you phone over every time to type is not fast, and I know a guy that has an htc evo and swypes in landscape? the keys are in different spots in landscape, so if your used to portrait you will have a hard time swpying.
So I just downloaded the latest Swype and I have to say its fun, quick, and pretty accurate. I just wish it had more options like getting rid of voice and Swype help button to make the space bar bigger. also it would be cool if you had more customizing options. Other than that its definitely worth trying out.
Swype.....not skype. Duh
I stopped using Swype for smart keyboard pro a few months ago but went ahead and gave the new Swype a try and all I can say is WOW! It has improved so much. Its 100 times more accurate than the previous versions.
To Dan: it takes a little getting used to but after a while it becomes muscle memory with the
letter placement to where you don't need to see the letters your finger is blocking and your finger just knows where to go. Until you can Swype without thinking about where the next letter is it will never be as fast as the two thumb approach. Even then, using two thumbs might still be faster. But for 'one handed' typing you really can't beat Swyping once you're used to it. I also highly recommend the tutorials on their website. Might sound silly but after using the tutorials my Swyping speed improved very noticeably. There's a lot of neat little tricks you might not otherwise ever know existed on the Swype keyboard.

My goodness, has anyone used this yet? This is the most impressive keyboard I've ever experienced. After tinkering around with the settings and allowing it to "learn" my typing style, I have never made a typo, and I type fast.
Anyone who remembers me from the past will know I'm very critical of the Android stock keyboard (and of alternative keyboards too, including Swiftkey) and that the typing experience has been a real thorn to my Android experience.
All that is gone. Anyone else using Swiftkey X? The improvements are astronomical.
Swiftkey X is outstanding, been using it since it was free.

Words cannot describe how amazing this keyboard is. I downloaded the trial version today and will most definitely buy the full version.
The first thing I do with keyboards is type like a madman just to see how many mistakes I would make and to my huge surprise, Swiftkey made no mistakes whatsoever.
The only downside is the lack of themes, but then again, I'm using the free trial version so I hope the full version will have more to choose from.
Yea I definitely love SwiftKey, I too have been using it for a long time.
If anyone is interested here are some themes for it. Idk if they work on the most recent update but they work on the 2.0.5.153 version

The only quibble I have seen so far with Swift Key X is that... for whatever reason, it seems to inadvertently register the space bar twice sometimes, resulting in unwanted periods.
So an example sentence would look something like this: "Hey John how's it. Going?" When it should look like "Hey John how's it going?"
Is this happening to anyone else using the keyboard? I have my space bar settings as Spacebar Will Always Complete Word, and I have the Quick "." turned on.
Lol I remember you and your constant keyboard woes. I tried SwiftKey a few weeks ago but had a lot of issues including the double space thing. But after reading your rave reviews I just tried it again. God DAMN its massively better. I'm going to switch back to it full time now. Thanks for the heads up!

Of course we remember
I could have sworn you said you tried swiftkey back then too, but I guess not this latest version. Anyway, I'm glad you've found a acceptable keyboard solution.
yup swiftkey is really the best thing ever. the only thing still missing is the ability to learn from whatsapp typing patterns, but i think they also seem to have the best word correction, so prediction is less of an issue.

Yup I get that too, plus a lot of accidental caps. I think its just a learning curve issue since I've been using the stock android one for so long my fingers keep hitting places they shouldn't.

Strange. After I changed the Typing Style setting to "Precise" instead of "Rapid" which I thought would serve my faster typing style best, the inadvertent periods in the middle of sentences have occurred less. Though it's still popping up. It's becoming quite problematic. I'm getting sentences that look like this: "Hey I'm. On my. Way. To. You now." I kid you not, it gets that bad sometimes.
=T
Ya its rather frustrating. Also, I'm rather unimpressed by the selection of skins. I have a blue theme on my phone that doesn't really match the bright neon blue nor does it fit with the neon green and I don't like how plain the HTC IME skin is...

Yeah, agreed. The lack of skins is disappointing. Frankly, all three skins are hideous. I'm using the classic white one for now.
Anyway, I've started a thread over at the Swiftkey Beta X forums: http://vip.swiftkey.net/index.php?/forum/88-discussion-phone-x/
You can't miss it. It's titled "Inadvertent Periods in Middle of Sentences." Chime in if any of y'all are experiencing this odd glitch too.
It's becoming more and more common. Like every other sentence will have inadvertent periods. Frustrating, and sad after I finally found a keyboard that could keep up with my thumbing speed. :[
The only solution now is to turn off Quick "." but that is not ideal. Hitting the period button to add a period at the end of sentences is awfully cumbersome. CORRECTION: It seems even after turning off Quick "." the inadvertent periods still happen. It's incredibly baffling!
So one person suggested that I'm hitting the period button when typing fast instead of the spacebar. This is may be the culprit! >__<
However, I'm still experiencing some odd double letter glitches, and it seems people over at the Swiftkey Beta X forum are as well. It's already a reported bug. This double-letter glitch seems to really plague a lot of Android keyboards; I wonder why. =T
Haha that's what I was implying but I suppose I should have been more clear. It's an adjustment to such a short space bar.
