Have a stock unrooted at&t N1, with 2.1-update1 firmware, EPE54B build. Daily have to go into process manager and kill apps to get the phone to respond. Seems a ton of apps are running and even though some may not consume memory (empty), the phone locks up and won't respond to touchscreen inputs.
Wondered if rooting and using a custom ROM like Cyanogen or some new build like FRF83 will finally get the phone to work without frequent memory clearing.
Will waiting for OTA fix the problem? Is this a common problem with stock firmware?
Trying to get a last minute response that will help me decide to root and update manually. Any help is appreciated.

Question: I have tried updating via "software update" on the phone, but continually receive no update "available". I have tried requesting the update in both rooted and an unrooted state, with no success. I'm currently running I897UCJH3 stock rom, so I'm at a lost on what to do. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Although I lock on GPS without hesitation, I'm still interested in the update due to the media scanning fix. I'm also concerned that when froyo comes out OTA, that I will continue to experience the same issue.
I also am now getting no update as available as well, so it is not just you. I was able to see that there was an update but it would fail and since I was out of town I did not want to try to use heroic measures to try and get it.
Try Mini Kies

This is still an official avenue to update, you just don't have to wait for it to come over the air
Thanks for the responses guys, but unfortunately Kies mini says that my device is unregistered. I tried registering on Samsung's web-page, but still no success. I have wiped my phone and started from complete scratch so I'm at a loss. The only this in that is not stock is the Clockworkmod /rom manager...
If you have clockworkmod installed. You can flash the update with that. Check this thread here
Is this what you are looking for? Make sure any lagfix's are disabled.
Thanks Billa, it worked like a charm. I purchased this from someone else, so I was unsure if lagfix was installed(unsure how to check). I took a gamble and it worked! Kies Mini now recognizes my update fine.
Thanks again!
How can I make OTA updates work again? I'm running 2.1 right now. But would like the critical update that will fix my phone from double dialing and lagging. My phone was rooted with Universal Androot, and I unrooted it with that app and tried unrooting it again and it said my phone is no longer rooted.
I go to Settings>About Phone>System Updates>HTC Software Update>Check Now. Then it says, System Upgrade to 2.31.651.7 (7.49 MB). Then I hit Install Now. Then it goes to the boot screen HTC and white background. And then it just stays there forever. I have to take out my battery To reboot it. I already unrooted my phone so I don't know what the problem is. And I can't find a way to download it online. Sometimes on the Sprint site they don't have the OTA update because they are slow. So is my phone soft bricked? I am trying not to do a factory reset.. so any suggestions or solutions? Appreciate the help.

If you want to keep root you should download the root version of the newest update, not the OTA version
I believe the update is rootable. But if not, at this point I don't care. I just want my phone to work without having the lag and constant double dialing. The update fixes all that. So what do I have to do? Where can I download the OTA if not from my phone?

Search in the development section on here for a rooted stock .7 rom, and then just flash from recovery
I'm running decrap 1.1...My phone automatically attempts to install the vzw update every day, usually around 5 AM. With CWM installed, it seems that when the phone reboots after the install, it prevents the upgrade from actually being put in place. In theory this is a good thing and prevents unwanted downloads. The problem is that it is preventing my alarm from working and I wake up every day with my phone in CWM recovery mode. Plus I was late to work today. So, I would actually like to try the vzw update and replace it with the revolt rom if I don't like it. Does anyone know where the VZW update gets stored so that I can flash it out of cwm? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
You will need to flash back to stock and remove root to have the update install, and then if you change your mind, you will need to downgrade to the old software before being able to root again.

Do NOT install the update if you want root and Revolt. Just flash Revolt or Home-Less as instructed in their threads, and you will be good to go!!!
Edit: I solved it by going back to Stock rom, Android 2.2.1 Froyo. It didn't happen anymore, so it must be some software related issue which remained on the phone even after fully wipe including the OS. Now I will just need to root the phone again and flash custom roms on it.
Hi there,
When I bought my Samsung Galaxy S back then it came with Android 2.2 Froyo (or it was Eclair, don't remember), which I updated to 2.3 Gingerbread. Since then I flashed newer Android roms found on this forum. I never had any problems. So I had ICS (various versions), JB (various versions) and KitKat (I think I was on 4.4.0 and later on 4.4.4)
So up to Android KitKat 4.4.0 I used it on daily basis but after I got a new phone I didn't use it much anymore (I would only turn it on to make sure the battery won't die). But recently I turned it on, I can do things on the phone but when I leave the phone on standby it would eventually reboot on its own.
I tried installing an older version of KitKat. I picked one from an older date, which happened to be 4.4.2. The same issue happens there too. I just installed Android 6.0.1. made by Full Advance. and the issue happens there too.
My phone has an SD card inserted but no SimCard, anything else you need to know just ask.
I would like to keep Android 6.0.1 from Full Advance. It seems a fast and stable rom. It feels faster than the KitKat 4.4.4 I had.
I would be glad if the issue on the self reboot would be solved. I want to use this phone as a MP3 player. I really like AudioFX.
Any help appreciated, thanks!
Hey everyone. Seem to be having a real problem applying an RUU.exe to my phone. I did this a couple years ago without an issue, but now I just get errors, no matter what I try. (Sorry, no error messages at the moment. Computer I was attempting this on had a screen issue. Unrelated. lol)
HTC M8 non H/K, rooted, S-off, unlocked/relocked on 4.4.4. stock rooted rom.
I have some apps frozen through Titanium Backup. Was thinking that may be the issue, but haven't gotten around to trying the unfreeze to see if it helps.
Have attempted using Dual Boot as well, using an sd for the install, and I couldn't get anything at all to work through that.
Was going to RUU so I could just OTA my way to the latest update, but that doesn't seem to want to work.
I'm just looking for the simplest solution to get my phone to the latest update. Don't need anything fancy. A stock rom would be perfectly fine. Wouldn't mind an RUU working, because I can always root after if I really want to. Wiping doesn't really matter. Can backup mostly all I need to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. More and more of the important apps I use are completely dropping anything below Android 5, and I could really use a solution.
Thanks in advance for any help. ^^
Hey everyone. Is there any solution to my issue? Really need help. Can't use my TD Bank app, the Verizon Fios app, or even the Wal-Mart app anymore, and it's only going to get worse.
Please help me figure out how to update.
Also, I have used an RUU before, AFTER I unlocked the bootloader and went S-off, so I'm unsure why I can't RUU now.
