Basically, I bought a Thunderbolt back in March when it launched. That is to say, my mom did as a late birthday gift, and she bought the buyback program with it. So, if I trade in my TB now, I'll get $350 back that I can put towards a Droid 3, which drops it down to lower than the Verizon off contract price.
(if it wasn't clear, I want to get one off contract, but money is fairly tight and saving that extra 100 or so dollars is a make or break thing)
My problem is, both Best Buys in my area don't seem to have the Droid 3 in stock. I heard rumors they were supposed to get them in today, but the site is pretty bad at confirming or debunking that. Has anybody been able to find one in retail?
I work at best buy mobile and no store in all of California will get the Droid 3 it will only be sold online. Can't speak for other states.

No New Hampshire store is currently planning on getting it either. We went in the other day to check and we were told that, so we had to go to a Verizon store instead.
I was told at a local Best Buy that the particular store I was in wasn't going to have them in stock. However, they said they could order it in if I wanted one through them.
So that's what I'm planning on doing... every time I go in a Verizon store, someone lies to me after a 45 minute wait to talk to someone, so it works out well for me....
Aren't the off contract prices higher in the third party vendors that from Verizon for the D3?

Yes, but my mom bought the Buyback program for the Thunderbolt, so $350 back in the form of a gift card brings it down to less than it would cost off contract from Verizon, full price.
If I get the money from the TB, that brings it down to ~$300, whereas from Big Red, I'd still have to pay $460.
But, working under the assumption that no Best Buy will be getting them in, can I still trade in my TB in store, go back to my Droid 2 temporarily and get a Droid 3 online using the $350 gift card I'd get for the TB?

You could always just try to get someone to buy that credit off you (like a family member who was planning on a big purchase from Best Buy) and you can get yours at Verizon and have it even cheaper!

A cunning idea, but I'm not exactly sure it'd work...not many people I know would be seeking such a thing.
Yeah odd, no D3 at the Best Buy here in Syracuse NY.
I am a Best Buy Mobile employee and can tell you that no Best Buy stores will carry the Droid 3; this is on the decision of Best Buy Mobile, due to the issues with the Droid X, the Droid 2, and the Droid X2; they will only be availabe through Best Buy via the Best Buy website; our store (in Illinois) doesn't even have a demo model (live or dummy).

How could the worst droid ever made become the Best Buy? I got my Best Sell when I found someone to buy this crap.
Nice job reviving a thread thats over a year old.
Does anyone know if and when Walmart stores will carry the LG Thrill? I've been waiting a long time for this phone and I'm ready to exchange a recently purchased phone for it. I live in Nevada and unfurtunately, it's one of the states that make you pay full retail price tax on cell phones...except at Walmart so that's where I make my purchases. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I know Radio Shack and Target are selling the Thrill. Radio Shack has it for $79 and Target has it for $49. So that might help you save in the sales tax issue.

Honestly if you can find a costco out of state thats not too far you can pic one up for $30 bucks unless costco in Vegas doesnt tax you
If your exchanging a recently purchased phone within the 30 day period, you'll have to go back to where you bought it. Or you can just return it, and undo the upgrade/new activation, then go wherever you want to go.

I would go to Best Buy Mobile. I worked for Best Buy as a manager for 3 years as their Mobile Manager at a large store and if you got a good manager running the Best Buy Mobile they are easy to deal with and do get preferential treatment for stock on phones of this caliber. Assuming that a Best Buy Mobile is near you. We used to get "the" latest and greatest phones before even the two AT & T corporate stores did and more product to boot. Sorry for the wall of text...my point is; check them out if you got one near by. They are in Best Buy's or have a stand-alone location typically in the mall usually in close proximity to the actual Best Buy store. I hope that helps.
So, i have been deciding if i should pre order from Best buy or ATT. The Media link is kinda cool and is worth more then the 50 best buy play store thing but what other advantages does best buy have over att? I was wondering which one are you going to do and why. Does best buy offer insurance on their phones? i always get insurance from att and its pretty decent i was wondering what best buy does and if anyone has had problems with them (i have had many problems with att insurance ) just trying to decide where to get it. i didnt see another thread that was like this its usually its own individual subject but i wanna hear why people would get it at best buy over att. thanks.
The pre-order link that I found on Best Buys website does not make any mention of that $50 gift card. Also Best Buy doesn't seem to be offering the 64GB model for pre-order yet.

hmm well thats what i found out from other peoples posts.
What about Radio Shack with the $50 Playstore gift card? I know it was specified for Sprint, however, if this holds true for ATT it might be worth considering as well.

Good question, however, since you purchase the phone new you should be able to add insurance to the device within 30 days of purchase. Just as you would at a traditional ATT store.
If you're purchasing in the USA and care about LTE, the version you buy is important. There are several versions with different LTE band support.
I don't really know how it works out there, but you're pretty much tied to your carrier due to frequency support.

I think what OP was talking about was Best Buy's "phone freedom" offer of which registration ended about a month ago. Basically if you registered your number with BB.com, and got a new phone at best buy mobile in the calender year 2013, you got a free 50 dollar gift card.
I never quite understood the reason behind these threads. Do you go online to ask which pair of underwear to wear on a certain day? Do what's gonna make you happy, don't worry about what others think.

you sir, have down syndrome. Regardless of what you say, i know you have an extra chromosome. I Was asking to see which one is the better deal, because i haven't bought a phone from Best Buy or Radio shack. I clearly ask for the benefits to purchase it at another store, you don't need troll for no reason.
I'd be interested to know if you can buy insurance from Best Buy for a phone you bought at AT&T. ATT's insurance deal sucks. It's $7mo with a $200 deductible.
Everybody should look into squaretrade for insurance. I've had in for the past 7 years on all my phones and it includes accidental damage.
If they can't replace or repair they send you a check for retail price of the phone.
I don't work for them or anything I just like their insurance plans

Yea but sprint doesn't compete with online retailers. Most companies can't.
And the HTC one has always been 200 since the day it was released.
But there are ways a new customer can get an HTC one or S4 completely free.

Best buy always has various great deals the one for the HTC One is good right now. $99 for the One trade in your old phone and put the amount toward the One and get a $50 gift card for Best Buy. The S4 had a deal a week ago. I will never buy from anywhere but Best Buy from now on and the last place would be from Sprint. They screw me over on my data enough I don't need there ridiculous prices and activation fees and about 1/3 the price for trading in your phone as Best Buy.

What makes you think you don't get charged activation/upgrade fees from Best Buy? Read the contract.
A Sprint store would offer discounts on accessories with a phone purchase, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store will take the time to educate the customer on their new phone, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store will assist the customer with applying or re-validating their discount, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store has access National Sales Support (NSS) to resolve complicated issues, Best Buy does not.
1/3 the price on Buy Back? Where do you get that info from? Sure, Best Buy MAY give you a little more for your phone than a Sprint store will, but we're talking maybe $20 tops. Sprint follows a national AVERAGE for Buyback value on phones.
Sprint stores can also offer different credits and discounts to beat Best Buy prices, such as the $100 port-in credit, or the ability to get $100 off any phone if you sign up for Sprint's Home Phone Connect service. I had a customer the other day who walked out with a FREE Galaxy S4 and free accessories... he had an iPhone 5 from Verizon and cancelled his Verizon contract. He got $100 for keeping his Verizon number, and another $100 for signing up for the Phone Connect... so that's a free S4 right there. Then he traded in his iPhone 5 for a $245 credit and used that money to buy a bunch of stuff for his new phone. Total out the door cost = FREE.
Best Buy can't match everything we do, as Sprint corporate won't allow it.
Hey Ryan, do you think you could explain how this deal works? Do we need two valid upgrade lines or can I walk in the store with my upgrade and walk out with two s4's?

Yes, you need two VALID lines. You must meet 1 of these 3 qualifications:
1) Be a new customer activating at least 2 new lines of service.
2) Be an upgrade eligible customer upgrading at least 2 new lines of service.
3) Be an upgrade eligible customer upgrading at least 1 line of service and adding at least 1 new line.
Any of those scenarios will qualify you for the BOGO offer.

Hmm..this sounds like a cool deal. I switched my line from ATT about 2 days ago. I was gonna wait till next month to switch my wife's line over to Sprint. But if they would let me get a free S4 for her considering I just started service a couple days ago, that'll be great. But I doubt they will go for it...but I'll definitely call and try to get this deal next week when its made public...

Won't work. When the store processes the phone in SNAP, your line would be a service when it has to be a new or upgrade. So even IF the store personnel didn't know what they were doing and gave you the in-store credit, Sprint themselves would not pay the store back for the credit because the BOGO offer was done wrong.
The only way you can do this is if you add TWO more lines of service. Then just give the 3rd S4 to someone else or something.

Buddy you got all the wrong information. I work for Best Buy Mobile, and we do all of that.
Buy any case upto 24.99 get a zaggshield HD or car charger for only $10. OR all 3 for just $50
Buy any case upto 34.99 get a Zaggsheild HD or car charger for only $10 Or all 3 for $60
We price match accessories to any online or store retailer, including the $50 Otterbox's for $25 that are on sale at Amazon. And most of the time if you ask if you can give a discount on a case or charger, mobile manager or sales leads can give you a "customer satisfaction" discount.
I don't think any carrier store spends as much time with a single customer as we do at BBYM. We do not work on commission and don't rush you out of the store to get to the next customer to make money off of them and rush them out. There have been times where I have had older customers come into the store and I've spend an hour with them just educating them about the technology, finding out what their needs are, what they plan on using the phones for, and all of the different pricing options, plans etc. then another hour setting the phones up for them, google, corporate email accounts, apps, showing them how to work it and etc.
True we can't do the $100 credit for new service/bringing your number from another carrier, but Our system we use does allow us to search for corporate discounts to apply to the customers account.
And we do have NSS access to Sales Support for issues that may come up, and trust me, Sprint is the one that usually has the most issues with phones not wanting to update and activate and prl and profile updates not going through, also we have our Sprint Account Manager just a phone call away if there are issues that need immediate attention that calling NSS can't resolve as far as phones not activating due to still being on another account or Bad ESN's that need to be taken care of to reactivate for the customer.
As far as our protection plan, the best in the industry, $9.99 a month (a dollar cheaper than Sprint) with $0 deductible and UNLIMITED Claims. Although we do not cover loss of theft, but then that's why we have zero deductible and unlimited claims. As long as you have your phone, whatever is wrong with it, (cracked, broken, dropped in toilet, charger, battery, charge port) we'll take care of it. As for Iphones go, we now even replace the glass In Store. And if you have our Geek Squad Protection you automatically get our Trade-In Plus for free, and that will give you an additional $50 on top the trade in value of the phone.

I'm going on information I have on hand, where I live our Best Buy sucks and I've been told that by customers many times. People tell me it's just like RadioShack, where yea they'll sell you a phone and if you're lucky they'll transfer contacts for it, but that's it. And the reason is BECAUSE you don't work on commission... a LOT of salespeople have no motivation to go the extra mile. They make a base pay and that's it. If they deal with 20+ customers a day, each one ending with the same result, then where's the drive to be the best? If you can't LOSE money as a sales rep, then you shouldn't call yourself a salesman IMHO. In that case you're just a customer service guy.
People have commission all wrong and it cracks me up when I see the Best Buy commercials that say you guys don't work on commission. Commission is what motivates salesmen to do a good job. Say a customer comes in my store and buys 4 new phones and I make $100 off that single transaction... it's my JOB to make sure they're 100% satisfied, because if they're not they have every right to return those phones and then I lose the commission, so now I just wasted time AND lost money because I half ass job. A typical single line upgrade will last about 45 minutes with us. We don't rush, and if we have customers waiting we simply set the expectations, tell them how long we'll be, and invite them to come back later so they don't have to wait. We go over ever aching detail from contact, picture, video, email, ringtone transfers to customer education. Then afterwards, the customer gets a CSAT call where they get to rate us. If our CSAT score is too low, we lose even more money off our commission. So once again, the result is that if you're dealing with a salesman who's pay and lively hood is directly effected by your (the customer's) level of satisfaction, then why do people assume commission-based salesmen don't do their job? Makes no sense.
But I digress.. Don't get me wrong bud, I am certainly NOT saying you do a bad job. If your particular Best Buy is a good one, and you in particular do an awesome job in phone sales, then that's great. I'm simply saying ours is not a good store, and the people there don't really give a crap.
Also, our accessory deals are pretty good. We do almost the same thing as you... buy any case for $29.99 or less and we'll bundle screen protectors and a car charger for a flat $40. We simply don't offer Zagg's because we don't believe in wet application screen protectors. OtterBox's are a big seller for us, and if you buy a Defender you don't need a Zagg anyway. We can't really match Amazon pricing for OtterBox because we're a preferred retailer, but we'll take a Defender down to $39.99 if we have too and still make a bundle deal.

Sprint Guy... how can a new customer get a free s4?

NEW customer?
If you port your number to Sprint from a different carrier you will get $100 in-store credit. If you sign up for the Home Phone Connect on top of that you'll get another $100 in-store credit. That means you can get an S4 for only $50 in store, but then you get a $50 mail-in rebate. So after everything is said and done, you get a free GS4.

The current offer is get $100 off when porting in, I assume you did this on your Att port in 2 days ago. This offer expires the day before the new offer starts. Just do that now for her line as it nets the same total cost as the bogo.

Interesting cause sprint is selling it on pre-order with only $100 markup.
Lol wow...

It's pretty straight forward.
Best buy makes money by selling contracts not phone. So they have no intention to sell this off contract and put some crazy number. They could as well put 1 million dollar.
Anyway not sure who still buys stuff from useless companies like best buy.
*** worst buy ***

Do they price match the play store?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
I believe the fine print says they only match contract prices, not non-contract...
Best Buy also sets insane prices on their inventory that hasn't been released yet. So it is not certain this is the final price.
Best Buy doesnt price match cell phones...I bought a droid maxx for my wife for 499 at verizon store, i went to best buy first to see if they price match and the manager there said cell phones dont qualify for price match
Best Buy has updated the price to $449 to match Sprint's price. As I suspected, it was just a placeholder.
Sprint doesn't have a cheaper plan if you bring your own device do they?
Seems dumb. If you want sprint, why not sign a 2 year and get the phone for $50....

I think it's only $50 if you switch from another carrier. It's $150 for upgrades.
Negri has the D820 for $459.50 and $524.50 for 16GB/32GB. International D821 for $70 more. Or, they will on the 8th if they don't give the same runaround as the Note 3 for T-Mobile.

Since this is a BB thread and my gift card pretty much means I have to buy it there, figured I'd share the fine print of the price match deal:
At the time of purchase, we will match the current pre-tax price for new, identical, immediately available products from a local retail competitor's store and these designated major online retailers: Amazon.com, Apple.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, Frys.com, hhgregg.com, HP.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Newegg.com, OfficeDepot.com, OfficeMax.com, Rakuten.com Shopping, Sears.com, Staples.com, Target.com, TigerDirect.com and Walmart.com. We will match prices between our stores and BestBuy.com®. We will also match prices post purchase if we lower our price within 15 days of your purchase.
The Guarantee is limited to one price match per identical item, per guest and does not apply to: Contract mobile phones sold by any online retailer, the online prices of retailers not listed, the online prices of third party vendors (Marketplace vendors) on designated major online retailers websites, post purchase price match requests to competitor's prices, Best Buy for Business™, offers that include financing, gift card offers, bundling of items, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers, competitor's service prices, items that are advertised as limited-quantity, out of stock, open-box, clearance, refurbished/used items, our and our competitor's Deal of the Day, daily deals, special hour sale event items and credit card offers, BestBuy.com Clearance & More and Marketplace items, and items for sale Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving.

So basically even if they WERE willing to match Google's $349 and build your contract around that price (which would come out to $50), Google.com doesn't fall into the group of websites they're willing to match in the first place. There ARE however two interesting wrinkles here: For starters, while they won't match ONLINE contract phone prices, print ads are fair game. Secondly, from BB's faq on price matching:
How do I request a price match from a Best Buy retail store?
When making a purchase, or during the return and exchange period after your purchase from a Best Buy retail store, please talk to a Customer Specialist or go to the Customer Service desk for help with your price match request

The return window is 15 days, so if you see any print ad selling it for less during the two weeks after you buy it, you can just go back in to BestBuy with your receipt and they'll give you back the difference (excluding any black friday specials).
