Nexus SD:EXT partition - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Stupid question... What is the SD:EXT partition and what am I deleting by wiping it in recovery?

well, if ur using the old 2.1 apps2sd method, u'd have created an ext partition on ur sd card and apps are installed there... wipe SD:EXT wipes the ext partition on ur sd card and u'd lose all apps installed on ur sd-ext partition...

And if I'm not? I'm using Froyo A2Sd.

Then it'll do nothing... this will only wipe an ext partition on the SD card

[Q] How to move all apps on my internal phone storage to ext filesystem on sd?

So i used to have all my apps on my ext filesystem on my sd card on my mytouch 3g 32B. Recently i wiped and upgraded to cyanogen mod 6.1 and also wiped ext filesystem. I used titanium backup to restore all my apps but they are on my internal phone storage now. Is there a way to move them all to my ext partition on my sd card without having to reinstall them all. also i dont want it on my fat partition i need them to be in the ext partition thank you!
Use a a2sd script? And terminal to move Them to ext

are you talking about firerats patch?
Yeah, but i dont know how it works on mt3g

but i thought a2sd moves only from the fat partition to ext? does it also go from internal phone storage to ext filesystem?
Apps2SD works by having your SD card patitioned into TWO filesystems. A normal FAT32 partition and a secondary ext partition. ext is just a filesystem, like FAT32, but it's the filesystem used by Android internally.
Apps2SD then runs a script on your phone which symbolically links the folder from your phone's internal storage where your apps are normally stored, to the ext partition on your SD card.
Android doesn't know that when it's installing it's apps to the internal phone storage, it's actually being stored on the SD card
in otherwords as LIL is saying. yes it moves apps from phone to sd card like the older roms did

[Q] Partitioned SD card, format apps also?

So I have a partitioned (ex2) sd card and I am moving to a new rom (froyobread). I want to start all over from scratch. But when I installed the rom, I noticed that all my apps are still installed. How can I format my phone so that everything (apps, settings, accounts) is gone?
U can format the ext2 with minitool partition wizard (windows app) o simplily use the ext format of clock work mod (partition -> format ext)
greetings
Thanks, man. I had completely forgotten about Minitool Partition Wizard (which I had originally used to create the partition)!

ya that's corrects dalvik cache use about 60-70 mb of internal memory and you can move the cache to sd by a2sd script but to use it you have to partition your sd card

that is because u did a partition of 1gb sd-ext which is a linux partition and will not be shown on windows.
so now u have,
7gb fat partition and
1gb sd-ext : use DTa2sd or any other script to move that dalvik-cache here if u feels it is necessary.
Hei can i use this script on stock rom...

Ok you can do
1) First partition your SD card by Gparted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php and burn to cd
2) make partition ext2 or ext3 (not FAT) to your SD card and insert
3) Download link2SD application from market
4) Link2SD will detect partition
5) select partition and reboot
6) Now link2SD shows all apps and that helps to move dalvik cache and data to sd card partition, and u will be able to free internal memory
7) Remember, those apps currently installed in SD card need to be moved to phone first then Data and dalvik cache need to be linked to SD card
after linking Cache and data to SD card reboot your phone
link2sd

link2sd recognizes and uses FAT32 partition as well.

[Q] Ext4 Partition issues?

I want to install RunnymedeMod and it requires that I have a 1GB Ext4 partition. I have an 8GB SD Card...
I use Minitool Partition to create a 1GB Ext4. I apply the changes... I take the ROM zip file and put it on my SD card. When I go to the Recovery to install it, I go to chose the Zip file and it isn't there...
I boot my phone back up and open my SD card's file on my PC. When I look, the partition is no longer there and the ROM zip isn't on my SD anymore... it is getting frustrating.
Any helpful ideas?
The reason you can't see the 1GB partition is because Windows cannot read ext partitions. I suggest you install 4ext recovery, then create an ext2 partition and then upgrade it to ext3 and the lastly ext4. This is your best bet to make sure it's partitioned correctly and smoothly.

So I have touch 4Ext Recovery... when I want to create partitions it says First Ext and Second Ext and then Swap size.
I have an 8GB SD and I need a 1GB Ext4 partition.

First ext: 1gb, skip second ext and skip swap. Then upgrade to ext3 and lastly ext4.

Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100 . You can partition your card directly from within the program. Your card will be wiped, so backup your data. Also, better to have your antivirus program disabled.
Or you can install the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r3 or the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r4 from that program as well, there's an option in the Advanced menu for partitioning.
CWM 4.0.1.5 and XRecovery don't have options for partitioning.

have tried that but none of the options will work on my device
well finally got the dam x8toolbox to detect my phone and partiton the sd card ait was working fine till i took sd card out to add files back on to it and back to square one the phone wont mount the sd card as it detect the sd-ext partition first and tried and fails to mount that as storage
Without digging deeper into it, maybe you could just not take the card out and just use the USB to transfer the files.
What OS are you running on your computer?
Maybe u are using Linux swap that's why it is unmounting the SD card. & both partitions must be primary (not logical)(ext2/3/4)

Make the ext partition as PRIMARY, not as LOGICAL partition (as suggested in the previous post) This the problem source. (The logical partitions have different partition numbers)
