Script to remove apps? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flash a lot of roms and I always remove some of the stock apps.every time I have to do it manually either via adb or titanium backup.can somebody teach me how to make a script to batch remove the same apps every time I flash a new rom? I use a mac but have access to a windows box as well. Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Hero

There are a few different ways you can do it. A .bat file or MAC equivalent. Also do a zipped update to remove the files you want to remove.
Im on my phone but of this is still open when I get to my comp ill post links tp threads that would help.
Try a search for .bat file and update zip to remove apps.

Bootup Screen For Kyocera Zio M6000

First and foremost i want to thank esk02k and his friend for the images. All Credit goes to him for the images check out his post on xda called the thc weed leaf (i would post the link to his page but it wont let me says out side links are not allowed by new users but yet its an internal link). I didnt use all of them as there was only 37 images that i had to replace and i couldnt find the file that links to the boot up animation png files to add in the extra files so i used most of them and all i did was make it to the right size and converted them from jpg to png.
I am using the stock rom and my phone is rooted using universal androot version 1.6.2 beta5 (search for 1-click root for N1 to find this it will work on this phone) you have to install super user then you need root explorer found in the market. Now on to how to install this.
1) Install universal androot and the root explorer run universal androot to get your phone rooted you may chose soft root which only lets you temporary root till you reboot (dont worry it will not void your warrenty)
2) Download kyocera zio m6000.zip at the bottom of this post and extract it to a folder on your pc
3) Copy the folder to the root of your sd card
4) Open up root explorer and click on /data/FLEX/bootanimation
5) Copy Startup_Sound_M6000.ogg from the folder you copied to your sd card to the /data/FLEX/bootanimation folder overwriting the one in there
6) Next goto /data/FLEX/bootanimation/assets folder and copy all the png files from the folder you copied to your sd card to the assets folder over writing the ones in there
7) Exit out of root explorer and reboot your phone to see your new boot up screen and enjoy the first mod for this phone. (Note im not sure why the android screen dont show up no more when none of the files that was replaced was the android png files only the cricket png files are replaced)
Well there you have it the very first mod for this phone i hope you all like it as this is my first attempt at making a boot up screen animation im not sure how to make it animate more so please give constructive critisim do not bash it please and please tell esk02k thank you for all the hard work he did with the images all i made was the start up sound and resized the images and converted them to png to work on this phone so in all it only took me bout 7 hours his work was a ton harder and probably took him days maybe weeks. So major props to esk02k
**edit** Wow i started this by making the first mod for the phone and showed you all where to replace the stuff and got the ball rolling and not one thank you. Wow it shows me how much im appreiated here.
Everytime I try to copy the files, it says I do not have enough space. What do I need to get rid of?

Remove some unwanted apps or apps that came on the stock rom that are worthless to you i removed the demo games that the company put on it and that gave me enough free space you need 6.50 mega bytes free to use this i made it as small as i could with out making it look like crap. you can remove some of the apps from /data/app i would recomend to back up the files before u delete them in case u have to put them back.
I have tried to copy the new pngs to the assets folder, but every time. I do, the original files replace the new ones. The closest I got was when I rebooted and I saw the first png of the original cricket boot animation, then it skipped all but the very last one of the new png I attempted to install.
Can anybody help me?

Apparently, the same number of images as the original must be used?
I tried one of my own, using boot screen found elsewhere on XDA that had more images. Didn't work.
Going to play around w/ the images today, reduce the count to the same as the original and see if that's indeed the case.
Or maybe it was the size of the images. I dunno yet.
Doesn't do a thing to my Cricket Zio.

Well, the 2.2 thread appears to refer to the windows downloader, with which I have two problems:
1) I don't run windows but linux, and
2) To do this, it appears I need to get into USB debug mode. I'm stuck in fastboot.
What I think I really need is the stock ROM from the Sanyo Zio. Does somebody here have this?
I can see if I can use adb to pull the 2.2 rom and if I have any luck I will let you know

I'm wondering if ReactOS is far enough along to run the updater. Will have to give it a try, liveCD.
No go. Booted the live CD, couldn't access any of the media devices to access the update tool.
Hmm
but listen, I can't get the phone into USB debug mode, so how can I run the updater? At the moment I'm stuck with fastboot. Normal boot is black screen, no response of any kind, no adb.
Turn the phone off, hold volume up down and power and your phone will bopt into modem download mode. Then update.

[Q] Sideload Wonder Machine (SWM) failing after JH7 update + Root

Hey all -- so i flashed back to JH6 with ODIN, got the JH7 update through Kies Mini, and then rooted. I also decided to use Launcher Pro as my default homescreen launcher.
Now i'm trying to use SWM to sideload some apps, but I always get the error (something like this) FAILED INSTALL PARSE UNKNOWN EXCEPTION ... the program recognizes my device just fine and loads up the .apk just fine but fails on trying to install it onto my phone.
anyone have an idea of what might be going on
SWM is unnecessary after root isn't it

The 2 are not related. You do NOT need to root to use Sideload. The SWM just uses the ADB command from the SDK. You can do this all day long without root.
If you want to install apps from your phone (not your PC) then you need to root and then you need to edit the settings.db file to allow sideload on the phone. You can't get to settings.db without rooting your phone.
Does that help?

sort of not really, as i'm trying to upload apps/widgets from my pc. i want to hold off buying Root Explorer, and apparently Droid Explorer doesnt work on win7 64-bit systems yet ... just kind of odd that SWM can't load to my phone. i either get the INSTALL PARSE FAILURE UNKNOWN EXCEPTION or INSUFFICIENT SPACE or OLDER SDK errors. doesn't make sense to me...
turn debugging on ,
don't put the .apk files in the sideloader folder at all. caused the whole no space avaliable for me when i did that
try that... works for me.
updated with the ota an i'm rooted.
yeah i had debugging on, left the apks in a completely separate folder (didnt put them in the payload folder). the main failure i get is the install parse unknown exception one
im thinking it might actually be the apks i'm trying to upload. i got one apk to upload successfully, so maybe the other ones have some bad code in them. *shrug*
specifically i've been trying to upload the REVOlution transparent apps. all of them fail for me. then i uploaded minimal icons apk just fine.

having problems with rooting and android sdk file

okay im trying to root my phone i already downloaded the driver to sync to my cpu and the downloaded the rooting file change it to update and copied it to my phone. i downloaded the sdk file and extracted it to my c drive as c:/androidsdk. i did everting it ask me to opened up the command promt and entered cd first changedirectory space the entered c:/androidsdk/tools as it tells me to but says this the program cant find the path specified..can anyone tell me wat im doin wrong and y its not bein recognized thanks in advanced
Re-check your path. When I installed it looked like this:
c:\android-sdk_r06-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools
YMMV
PS ... note they are backslashes not forward slashed in the path
Q: still having a problem rooting my captivate
i switched it up to the backlash and it still saying no path detected...it wont enen let me root my phone saying file is not there i downloaded the root file extract it to my c drive n renamed it update i got windows 7 i then copied it to my phone...downloaded the android sdk file extracted it to my c drive.opened up the command and put in the codes and it tells me it cant find the path..am i downloading the file wrong extracting it to the wrong file??? plz help
I do it the lazy way, take the tools folder and copy it directly to C:
So it would be,
cd C:\tools
adb blah blah blah
That's an easier path to remember.

That works too ...
My point was it's clear the OP has the path wrong. Actually finding the tools folder in Windows Explorer is obviously the first step.
Also, anything he is trying to push via ADB has to be in the tools folder as well if memory serves.
Of course there is an easier way to root ...

Don't know what to tell you. Following the instructions in the post I linked to above is the easiest way I know of how to root, and has worked every time I've tried it.
If you can get into download mode, then maybe try re-flashing to stock with Odin One Click and see if that helps any. Or re-install your drivers.
So, you cant even copy and paste from your pc to phone via usb mass storage?
Use your phone, go to dev section, find unleash the beast or super rooter extreme, download either and place the update.zip on the root of your sd card using My Files or whatever. Reboot your phone into recovery and reinstall packages. There, youre rooted. Dont forget to delete the update.zip if you plan to use CWM.

You can use Sideload Wonder Machine or the Android SDK to sideload.
With the Android SDK, you just put whatever apk you want to load into the 'tools' folder and use the adb install filename.apk command.
Like i said, check the dev section for SRE or unleash the beast. One update.zip that does it all, root, bloatware removal, sideloading, etc.

What startngate said. Here in the captivate forum there is android developement, do a search for super rooter or unleash the beast. All the steps to run it are there. Works really well if you just want a stock rom with root and some other goodies. If you want custom roms i encourage you to read through the threads before doing anything.

I use this one to keep it simple.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And I think it has the update.zip file in it... so if that application doesn't work.. you can just install the update.zip into your sdcard - reboot into recovery and install update.zip from there.
You don't need the SDK - just need to make sure your phone can be seen by your computer. I've used it on both an XP and Win7 64-bit machine at home and it works great.
To "side-load" applications - you can use the wonder machine... or place the *.apk file on your SDCard and use MyFiles or your favorite file explorer to browse to it and it should install just fine.
I'm testing my phone out with a stock ROM - and I'm rooted/sideload avail and even have a lagfix installed with all of my apps installed in under 15-20 minutes... it is a pretty simple process to root this thing nowdays

What program are you using to find it? You need something like root explorer which is a file system available on the market which gives you access to files you can not see with my files. It us not free but is very useful.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
i am not using any program. i am just connecting my phone to the computer and going into the command prompt...and then it tells me to pull settings.db i can't find it anywhere.
Do you have your phone rooted?
yes i do justmde
To use that command you need adb google it and will tell you how to install. Or you can use super manger from the market its free to get to the file. Be careful if you don't know what your doing you. I would read up om odin. One click and make sure you have the bottom combos just in case.
I am not too familiar with the command approach, but if you have root explorer you can navigate to your dbdata, darabases, com.android.providers.settings. Inside there us the file you are looking for. You can copy and paste it to you're internal sd. Then hook up to your computer and transfer the file to your pc. I believe you have to open some table and change a zero to a one. Save then drag back into your phone. Copy, paste back into the original directory where you found it. Over write, reboot.
Or you may consider a custom rom, all have this enabled, and have additional perks. Just saying, it is only a matter of time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
the main point that i wanna do..is i wanna go back to 2.1 and just save all of my apps and the progress in my apps. can somebody please message me or AIM me and walk me through???
I am completely new to this too man. I just rooted and enabled sideloading in about 10 minutes without even connecting my phone to a comp.
I'm not sure if it will work without installing the unleashthebeast thing, but to enable sideloading i just downloaded android terminal emulator from the market, opened it, typed in su, hit enter, then typed "sideloading". phone rebooted and now i can sideload.

[Q]Creating an Update.zip, AND?

ok, so maybe im slow or stupid & yes ive searched & searched, but no luck for me.
im trying to make some "flashable" update,.zip files to install to the system/app section of my htc cdma hero, & ive read & read, & researched, but im still at a loss.
so can anybody please in "noob/dummies" terms explain on how to do this, what files i need, b/c i see these "manifest.mf, cert.sf, & cert.rsa" files inside the update.zip files, & then theres the update-script file, & the apk.
how/where do i make/get these files, etc.
im ADHD & dyslectic, so please make it as simple as possible to follow.
also, how do i uninstall system apps & all the apps folders/cache files w/ adb, ive tryed but get "failed" error, i mean i can go in w/ root explorer & delete these, but it seems like a pain to track it all down, i just dont want to remove the app, but uninstall them completely, & not leave any junk behind.
thanks a million!
im trying to swap out some system apps (same apps), just different versions & size, & i tryed to just replace them w/ root explorer & reboot, but it doesnt work.
im on cm6.1 stable if that helps

Check out http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Barebones for a great guide on using adb to uninstall system apps.
As for update.zip info, I'm just starting to break into it myself. For a noob, I would suggest using the attached update.zip template (a read me is included ), and then you will need to sign the update. Two easy options:
1) Search the market for signapktic by Stericson.
2) Check out this amazing program: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/android-development/126517-pc-ppcgeeks-android-apk-zip-signer.html

Those three files are created when you sign the zip. If you just want the apks flashed to the system then you don't need to modify the script file in that template - as for the framework.jar/apk part of the instructions, you can ignore those because that part was added bc the zip was initially created for themers
If you're interested in doing more than flashing to /system, such as flashing to /data or /sdcard, or removing items with a flash zip then check out my old post HERE - as a forewarning some of the stuff can get pretty technical
Otherwise follow the above post and you should be set both signers he/she listed are pretty easy to use

LOL, I wasn't sure exactly where I got that .zip template from (That was a looong night of Google'ing and reading ) And the blog that you linked to is where I learned a lot of what I was after.
