Does GPS need a data connection? I would like to use the Streak in my car with Google Navigation, without tethering? Is this possible?

Thanks, looks like I'll have to buy CoPilot USA and down load the actual maps.

If you are going away from cell coverage, a stand alone GPS will be excellent. Just remember when buying software that one can also purchase GPS devices for under $100 these days (of course you would have another device in that case).
Google Maps Navigation will also cache your route, if you download it before you leave and look it all over. It'll even cache a few reroutes. This is nice when going from WiFi to WiFi, but not useful as a standalone GPS.
Thanks for the blurb about "CoPilot". I was using Google Nav, but took a detour in an area with no cell service. GPS was of no value. (compass is still there though)

Every time I start Copilot USA it asks for my google checkout number. And then it has to log into the internet to verify. Am I doing something wrong?
I just got an email regarding google checkout and wallet and their plans to consolidate. It was such a tease because I thought it was being released. When do you think us 3g nexus folk will get it???? It Sucks not being able to use our nfc chips..

My guess is it will come in ICS. At least I don't see why it shouldn't. I don't see the point of the NS 4G exclusive lasting much longer. At some point they are going to lose out on competition if they don't start getting this on NFC enabled phones.
I really hope it comes supported on all nexus s phones when ICS comes out for us so I don't have to flash a zip each time and can instead just get the updates from market

I've been using my Nexus 7 as a phone that only makes calls and texts. This way I don't receive any from it when I don't have a WiFi connection available. This also works really well because it saves the battery life of my Galaxy Nexus LTE.
Using TalkaTone and Google Voice this was very possible and very easy. You can also use GrooveIP, but I'm not using my $25 PS credit on that.
Since I'm always on WiFi w/ my N7 at home it's very convenient to be able to call on my tab. It is awesome texting from my N7!
I'm not going t go into great detail because if you're serious about this then head over to the GNex forum area and check out the massive thread on this subject.

I tried calling from Google voice but I can't hear anything.
I don't even see a dialer.
How do you turn on speakerphone
Google Voice texting is working well though.

you have to install the Google voice app, allow it access to your Google account. Once you open the voice affiliation due the first time you will be able to allow it access.
Then whenever you text/receive text you will see the notification...It's like chatting.
You have to have Google voice number previously for it to work.

+1 for groove IP pro, works great and I use text+ gold for sending and receiving texts. Might have to have a different number for each app but it works.

I depend on Google Voice + Groove IP + Verizon unlimited LTE on my smartphone. Glad to find out it's working fine so far on Nexus 7 WIFI tethered off of the smartphone.

Google Voice and GrooveIP
I agree. I've been using GV and GrooveIP on my galaxy player for several months. I'm glad to see that this combo works even better on the Nexus 7.
+1 for GrooveIP
You can use it as a speakerphone, but with a headset it's fantastic. (as long as you have a solid internet connection)
On my other tablets I had to tweak the settings to make it usable, but on the N7 I have had no issues whatsoever using the default settings.
Has anyone have any luck to get these two working...somehow not working on mine.

I tried yelp, it seems to be buggy and not working correctly but that might be because I live in sweden. We have swedish yelp so it should work I guess.
It might also be because I'm using custom ROM called liquidsmooth in my galaxy s3, yelp doesnt work always when my screen on my phone is off, so it could be some powersaving feature that turns off GPS and stuff in that ROM, I'm not sure.
It's a known issue. Foursquare doesn't seem to be working at all, and some people have Yelp working intermittently. Neither work for me at all, and never have. I've e-mailed Yelp and Foursquare's tech support departments but it's been months and have yet to receive a response.
no dice here on FoursSQ.. any one heard from the devs ?
Foursquare was working for me while it was in beta. Now it doesn't. Ha

I can confirm - It doesn't works at all (Czech rep.)
These apps are highly recommended in most reviews..surenly will get updated soon.
Tell me though - do they have much content outside the USA?

On Yelp.. try disabling "Discovery" on your Pebble Watch. On mine.. Discovery works when enabled but rest doesn't.. if I turn OFF Discovery.. all works but Discovery feature.

In Czech Republic has over 48 thousands active users (3/2014) and still growing, which is no so bad :good:
See at http://www.gosquare.cz/4sq-stats-cz/
Last I checked I got the error that Yelp couldn't access location on rooted, stock galaxy s3. All location settings were good and other Pebble apps a day watchfaces could get weather.
