having problems unlocking the sim on my phone. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but it did say general for the htc kaiser.
I've recently acquired a htc kaiser from a friend. I contacted at&t for the unlock code but they gave me the wrong one. By the time I recieved the correct code I could no longer attemt to unlock the phone because there had already been 5 attempts. I have seen on some of the posts here that after 5 attempts the phone is permantly locked. Is there any way to get past this issue? Can i still use the kaiser sim unlocker without bricking the phone?

If you used your PIN 5 times you will need to enter your PUK code (You should ask AT&T for it, If you didn't get it when you received your sim)

I appologize I wasn't specific enough. My carrier is T-mobile and the phone is from at&t. I trying to unlock the phone so it will recognize my sim. There has been five attempts to unlock it and now it will let me input a code but I can't use the ok button to process the code. The message on the screen says "please wait until timeout is over." I did try using the puk code but it wouldn't let me confirm the code.

I already have the 8 digit unlock code from at&t.

Unlock code unavailable for AT&T refurbs

Hi Guys,
I had to get a warranty replacement for my AT&T tilt.
They sent me a refurb, and I can't get it unlocked. I tried several places that I found on google and ebay, but everyone tells me that they cannot find my IMEI in AT&T's database.
I remember that there used to be (or still is) a peice of software that just calculates the unlock code based on the IMEI. They had this for Nokia phones. Doesn't anyone have something like this? Or is looking it up on a database the only way?
If the database is the only way, can anyone recommend software that will unlock it for me?

Will it work with WM 6.1 and Vista?
My tilt is a refurb, and when I got to review my account, there is a link for my unlock code. I click it and it gives me a code and instructions.
To unblock your SIM card, follow the instructions below on your phone.

PUK Code : *******
How to Unblock your SIM Card
You'll need your phone in hand to unblock your SIM Card.
1. First, enter the 8-digit PUK code, then press OK/Yes.
Note: Some Motorola phone users will need to enter **05* if "enter PUK" is not already displayed. After entering **05*, then enter the 8-digit PUK code and press OK.
2. Select a new PIN code, then press OK/Yes.
3. Re-enter the PIN code, then press OK/Yes.
4. If the codes were entered successfully, the phone is ready for use.

No, I didn't contact AT&T for that. I didn't think that they readily gave away the code. I tried to use a few online companies that sell codes. But they all told me that "the imei isn't in ATT's database."

You are confused about this. the PUK code is not for unblocking non native SIM cards. It is for unlocking the phone itself from being used. Not "unlocking" as in let me put any sim card in the phone.
I just contacted AT&T for the code, and they were going to give it to me, but they also said that they just don't have the code. He said usually they have the codes, but for my phone they didn't.
So back to my original question.
I looked at the software shown above, but I don't want to reflash my phone with a different ROM. I want to keep the AT&T ROM. Any suggestions?
Tell At&t to open a trouble ticket, they will e-mail htc and htc will give you the code. It happens all the time, especially for refurbs.
I'll give it a shot.
Thanks.

Bingo. It took them about a week to get back to me, but they gave it.
Just tell them you plan on taking a business trip, and require a local number there for your customers to contact you directly, and you cannot see life without your tilt.
i just recently had the same thing, so they sent a claim to Hewlett Packard which they said manufactures the phone and i just got the unlock code 2 days ago. Took 4 days, but i couldnt resist but to unlock it myself. I unlocked it and flashed the newest rom afterwards, it stays unlocked!

I contacted AT&T via their online chat and did what you said, and they already emailed me the code today!!!
Awesome! Thank you for your help!!!

Dream Unlocking Procedure

I've done a lot of searching online for information about how the procedure is conducted, however either that information doesn't exist or there is just too much spam crap littered on the internet. I called T-mobile and requested the phone to be unlocked, and have recieved a confirmation email saying that I'll recieve my unlock code, however, after viewing someone actually changing out a sim card and inputing the unlock code I have to wonder if this procedure requires another sim card. I'm anxious...
It won't ask you for an unlock code until you put a different provider's SIM in the phone...
Just keep the unlock code around until you need it (I email myself with stuff like that)...
That does beg the question though of why you need a unlock code if you do not have another sim to use...? Just curious...
Also, I've been on a website called uniquephones.com and they claim to be able to unlock the G1 - has any actually tried them out?
Cheers,
Smiffy.
So does this mean that each time you start the phone with a different carriers sim card you'll have to enter the code, or only once? I'm a struggling student and I don't know if I can afford my contract here in the future, so I may have to use a different sim. Seems nice seeing how its a free service through T-mobile. TAKING FOREVER AND SOME though, I requested the unlock code last friday, I read others having their codes in 4 days, I'm going on 7 or 5 business days. Thanks though
hi I am new here, I get a g1 next week and I wondered if flashing a new rom affects the lock of the device... i bought it on ebay and have no tmobile plan. do i have to care about unlocking after flashing?
Was the device purchased "unlocked". I'm real fuzzy about this because I'm not sure if each time you use the device with a non-tmobile sim card I believe, but very well may be wrong, that you need to enter the unlock code before you can access the phone with that new sim. You shouldn't have any software boundaries that would make you unable to use the phone while rooting the device, as all the steps toward rooting are all done while the phone is either in fastboot or recovery mode.
it is locked.
maybe we have a non-tmobile user here, that can tell me whether or not he had to unlock after flashing. or does the locked/unlocked state "survive" a flash?
after rooting my device and flashing to the JF Dev 1.50 rom I was still asked for an unlock code for mine.
This is just my knowledge, don't fully rely on it. As far as I know, if the phone is rooted and is on one of the modified rom, it can be used with any sim card. If you have an unlocked code, you only have to enter it once. It will not ask you twice.

Have you tried the app found in the market? (you need the original Sim card from where you got the phone and any other company's sim card
Try searching for "SGS unlock" in market place. It should be called the "Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool".
Simply Run the app after installing (while using the original Sim card) and it should give you two codes: an unlock code and an unfreeze code.
Once you get them, I suggest writing it down and/or emailing it to yourself.
After that, turn off your phone and swap the sim card to the one you want to use. The phone "should" ask you for the unlock code when you turn it back on and after it has booted. Simply enter the unlock code and you phone should then tell you it's unlocked (if everything works ok otherwise it will say it was unsuccessful).
Note: I am on Bell in Vancouver running the stock 2.1 firmware and it's worked fine for me. There have been people who were not so lucky and it did not work for them. There are even those who have gotten their phone locked due to trying to many time when after it fails to unlock, but that is what the unfreeze code is for. If you're with Orange mobility, I've read that some of their phones were already unlocked. You could always just try a different sim card and see if it accepts it if you haven't done so already.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying, new to this site not sure what I'm doing !
When i paid to have the phone unlocked i had already canceled my o2 monthly contract so the phone had no Sim in it when being unlocked, i don't have the o2 Sim anymore, i brought the phone from o2 so they might help me out I'll have to ask them. I've just put a o2 pay as you go Sim in the phone & it didn't ask for the Sim Network Unlock Pin but with the 3 contract Sim it does ask. I have installed the SGS Unlock tool but i haven't run the app. I'm having the phone unlocked again tomorrow so he hopefully can sort it out. Thanks again.
I tried to "SGS unlock tool" and nothing does not give me the codes. When I go to the root gene codes told me: "Sorry, no codes found. File not found: Do you have S Business"
I have no idea what to do.
Is there some other way to decode or knows someone why this is happening?
I also tried with Generate Unlock Windows, error is: can not find nv_data.bin

O2 PAYG HD7's sold unlocked?

Ok this is odd! I received my hd7 yesterday and immediately set about getting it unlocked once i had done the basic set up. Because of what i have read so far on numereous forums i automatically assumed the phone ould be locked and went to one of the two sites suggested here to purchase my code. Within 5 mins i had my unlock code for the sum of £19 something.
So i then read through the email and go to follow the instructions. The first instruction states that i should put in a SIM card from a different network. So i put in the t-mobile SIM i intend to use with the HD7 and would you believe it ITS UNLOCKED?! The phone tile shows T-Mobile as the network and i check and see if i can make and receive calls...all work fine?
Now my question is: was my hd7 unlocked when i purchased it? (bought online from o2 uk payg) or did the guys fromm the unlock site do some sort of jiggery-pokery that unlocked my phone OTA via my IMEI number?
Didnt O2 and Tmobile recent join forces to some extenet. I think they share the same network now so that may be why.
I bought a PAYG one yesterday and my vodafone simcard didnt work so bought the unlock code.

It can't be unlocked OTA, so it must have been shipped unlocked.
That was too good to be true…after appearing to be unlocked my HD7 has
now decided to lock itself. It is giving me this message:
"This sim card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service centre for the unlock code"
I've attempted 3 different PINS (1210, 0000 and 0000 again) with my T-Mobile SIM card in incorrectly so i guess i now need to get a PUK code. The question is who do i go to get this from T-Mobile (my current netwoork) or O2.

Errmm, That unlock code it's asking you for is not the SIM PIN, it's the unlock code you paid for from the site, I hope you did not guess it incorrect too many times otherwise you can lockout the phone completely.
OH GOD! you were right...that message was basically asking for the unlock code i paid for. Once i punched the code in it accepted it and i appear to be up and running again.
still find it odd that the phone acted like it was unlocked for a brief period before i had unlocked it!
thank you!
Glad it worked, good job you have not tried to guess the code 10 times otherwise you would never have got it unlocked.
Your right though, seems odd that it let you use it the first time, it's all software based anyway so guess it was a glitch.

Hi I work for o2 UK and it sounds to me like you luckily got a device set up for a contract. O2 only tend to sim lock the payg devices now. The salesman probably picked up the wrong device.

[Q] Does "SIM network unlock PIN" necessarily mean the phone is just locked?

[Q] Does "SIM network unlock PIN" necessarily mean the phone is just locked?
Hi all, so here's the story - I bought a used Samsung Vibrant (at&t galaxy s 1), upgraded to 2.2 to get the unlock code, unlocked it. I then tested it with my GiffGaff (o2 UK simcard) and it worked fine. Then I proceeded to flash CM7.1 on it and just assumed that it remained unlocked and forwarded it onto my friend in Japan.
Now that he recieved it, he put his softbank sim in and he's getting a "SIM network unlock pin" prompt when the phone is turned on. Now, I'm a bit confused as to why that's happening because I had previously unlocked the phone.
My questions are A) could flashing to a new rom have un-done the unlock? I thought not...but I can't seem to remember if I ever read that or just think that B) does "SIM network unlock pin" indeed only point to the fact that the phone is locked? From the various threads here that I've seen that contain the same message, it appears so...but I just want to double check?
The main issue is that there's another message saying 9/10 attempts, so I'm afraid to just give him (show him how to obtain) the lock code again.... if he did try it, and for whatever reason it didn't work, would it be as good as bricked? (I can remember back in the days when I would unlock the old school non-smartphones that once you reached the X or Y tries for entering the lock pin, it would become unusable)
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
update: oh man, I just found out that I sent him the wrong captivate...problem solved....his is indeed locked/etc. sorry!
