Froyo ... so where is the official announcement - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Still nothing on www.google.com/press/
Can they fumble this update any more?

There is none and there probably won't be one. Look at the archives, do you see any announcements for 2.1, 2.0, 1.6, or 1.5? There's no reason 2.2 would be different.

If you want a dog and pony show hosted by the king of the turtle-neck laden hipsters, get an iPhone.
They already 'announced' it at I/O btw.

hahahaha +1
Why would they announce an OTA.....

Because these are test builds, and are not OTA to everyone.

This just in:

False. FRF85B is pushing out OTA to everyone with release keys and a market signature.
That said, why would they announce it again? They already did at google I/O.

Yeah you won't but I'm sure they'll be a MOD version of cupcake out before the real cupcake even reaches your part of the country.

or when cupcake is released you could always revert back to "unrooted" original firmware and get the OTA.

Seeing how the rooted RC33 came out first and how we already have access to the Magic Firmware and such, I'm sure we will be able to get it before its released lol.

Dont place all your eggs on that thinking.
IF, we get the update we are all waiting for, it'll be a major one.
For it being leaked, nah. Someone will have to "extract" it out the phone.
Then "Jesus" will have to get his hands on it, do his magic and get it modded for us.
That is IF "Jesus" is still willing or isnt taking a vacation where there is no internet connection too get the news about the update, so on.
Well hey, I'm just saying lol... If google is going to do the same thing as they did with the RC33 Update, which is release it online before releasing the OTA update, then our friend JF WILL mod it for us before we resort to violence

FYI, he real doesn't have to do anything
We are at his mercy It's not like he gets paid too HAVE too do it.
yes, but him not doing anything will drive the community into insanity, then we shall form a mob, forcibly tie him to a computer chair, and make him mod it for us!!! BwuahahahAHAhAHAHahAH!!!!! lol
I would so keep going with this but religious comments are not recommanded. lol
As for the tieing him up part, exclude me out of it. I enjoy my life, doing that, who knows what will bring into our future. OVER A PHONE!!!!

Google Maps 4.0 on the market

Maps 4.0 is now up on the market, which includes the new google buzz.
Can someone upload a copy of this APK? I can't download it, because I have the modded version of 3.4 from the Nexus one, so it's not letting me overwrite it by downloading from the market.

I downloaded it and it broke my multi-touch. On Super-D 1.8. No thanks, I'll keep 3.4.
here's the apk for anyone else who needs it

I think it can be a great extension of Places Directory if used correctly. You will have fresh new information about specials, deals and new things going on in your town or city. It could also be used as a gossip kinda thing too where people can talk about things going on in there neighborhood or whatever. If you have a ton of people watching lost you can find a group that's talking about it in your neighborhood and converse about it there. It has it's potentials but it can also be ruined if people treat it like twitter when it's not.
It's Twitter, and it's lame. Sorry Kidz.

It really shouldn't be. It is *NOT* free software. It is only licensed to people who are licensed to use MARKET, it is therefore ONLY available through market.

[Kernel Source]

So I guess Htc/VZ decided to release the source: http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/incrediblec_cc1c2268.tar.bz2

We have been down this road before with several other devices...
HTC has ALWAYS released the source code....within a few months or so.
You can email all you want, but your going to get generic responses, and its going to be released anyways.
The phone is only available for pre-order and its not even the 29th yet...so give them sometime.
Cheers!
Will having the kernel source for the Incredible make rooting the device easier because of the potential for "work arounds".
From what Paul is saying over at Modaco, it seems HTC is going out of their way to make the Desire and Incredible "more secure"... which means locking down bootloader, kernel, etc. More of a pain for rooting... agh!

We blasted HTC before with thousands of emails, and even got News sources involved, but since all that they have always released the source codes within a few months or so.

Its a marketing strategy because they know people are going to mod it anyway, so this way if people mod it, they are more inclined to stay with the device and HTC.

Did you receive Official Froyo OTA?

Did anyone receive official Froyo via OTA yet?
It is supposed to be pushed during the end of this week.
And we are here already.
I'm buying my N1 this week so that'd be great if it came out the same time!
I've quit counting on Google and 2.2. They said it would be released "shortly" weeks ago.
Maybe they are waiting to try and steal some of Apple's thunder next week.
Even so, I have a trip to take and I would like to have Froyo on my device as it's MUCH quicker and more reliable than 2.1(I have 2.2 on my Tmobile Nexus but not my ATT Nexus)
I simply wish Google would just give us the damn OS already. I've been waiting so long it has ceased being fun. Now I just want to load the OS and move on...
They really managed to ruin the fun of a new OS(for me) with all of this hurry up and wait crap.
Don't get me wrong, I love Google and my Nexus, but they've burnt me out waiting on Froyo.
I know this is going to come across as crass, but are you guys 8 years old? You can't wait 2 weeks for an OTA update? You can't manually update in the mean time? How could a company burn you by not releasing an update when YOU want them to? That's like complaining that while living at home, Mommy didn't make the dinner that you wanted that night.
Grow up. It will be here. IO was 2 weeks ago. You must have something better to do with your time than ***** about this.

+1, Its not like eclair is uber slow or sucks. I too believe that it will start releasing during. Wwdc2010 to steal headlines from apple. Also, a bug free version is much more desirable for me as well.

That's the thing though, 2.2 is not that buggy. I have it on my TMobile Nexus One. I'd be thrilled to have the exact same version of 2.2 on my ATT Nexus(without rooting).
