failure in rooted FRF83 to FRF85B - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

really can't understand why
I used file here under "custom recovery"
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=67177
it always reports "can't open file xxxx (bad)"
anybody knows why this happens? I don't really care if it came to unroot my phone or not ,just want to upgrade to FRF85b
Thanks.

Disable OTA Update?

Hey all,
I'm running a T-Mobile G1, rooted with JF's newest 1.5 firmware and running just fine. As of last night I started getting notified that my phone had downloaded the new security fix from Google and would like to install it. There is no "Don't install" option that I can find, just "Install Now", "Install Later...", or "More Info". I just have been going to the "More info" option and backing out from there which seems to delay it for a few hours, but it just keeps coming back. Does anyone know if it will be safe to allow it to install (I don't want to try for fear of losing my precious root)? If I can't let it install, does anyone at least know of a way to get it to stop bugging me about it?
Thanks,
Bob
I thought JF's builds blocked OTA Updates...apparently not JF's ROMS are old flash the cyanogen's cupcake! So many goodies inside
That's what I thought too. After telling it off enough times it seems to have given up, so that should fix it for now, just hope that it doesn't come back.
I haven't heard of anyone loosing root from any OTA updates...think about it, it's the same as flashing a new ROM.
It will never go away as long as there's an update though, only when you actually do update. Google is picky like that!

To keep the phone from checking for new updates try:
Go to Settings>Security, then scroll to the bottom, click firmware download and tick never. Should do the trick tho I don't know for sure as I haven't ever been prompted.
Then again, you shouldn't be getting OTA updates at all, haha.

You lose root because the update replaces the boot image and other images which are the key thing that is needed for root access on your phone.

Easily upgrade to 5.7.893, keep root AND webtop now

Apparently since I have less than 10 posts, I am forbidden to post in the development area regarding my issue and the topic...Easily upgrade to 5.7.893, keep root AND webtop now.
I was told to post in "General Forum" so here it is:
I used R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 to bring my phone back to stock so I could upgrade to 5.7.893. I selected option 1 and then proceeded to apply the Blur_Version.5.5.886-5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US upgrade.
This worked fine without issues. However went I went to apply the [MOD] Webtop Via HDMI Without a Dock update, it gave me these errors:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
So I decided to skip the webtop since I probably wouldn't use it anyway and began to upgrade to SHIFT3R_BASE that I was using before upgrading the OTA.
This also showed the above error messages, so I decided to try using Rom Manager and manually reboot into recovery using CWM. However everytime it reboots the phone normally and never goes into recovery.
I have read extensively on both issues and because I don't want to waste large amounts of time, I was hoping I can get a correct course of action to resolve this.
I have removed Rom Manager and reinstalled but nothing is working. I have root access and it's allowed fro Rom Manager. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Is your phone rooted? If so, download Bionic Bootstrap from the market and use it to install Clockwork. Then try your reboot into CWR.
Worked...thanks. I did read about somebody using safestrap and it making the problem much worse. But this option worked...thanks.

[Q] Atrix HD unrootable after 4.1.1 update?

I tried using RSD with 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC and it failed (phone won't boot now either until I choose 'factory'). I tried using motofail2go and get the error: more than one device and emulator.
I wish I never updated (esp. since it broke Flash). Is there anyway I can root it, or revert the update?
I even tried running Motorola_Atrix_HD_Utility.bat and it gives the error "& was unexpected at this time."
I'm thinking maybe if I go to a different computer and just do motofail2go, it might work? Not sure, but the "more than one device and emulator" kind of sounds like there is too much stuff running? (I've been pissing with this for hours)
Can anyone fix any of my errors, or recommend a root / revert method that will work with 4.1.1?
Well

Part of the problem is I had bluestacks running, which apparently breaks the motofail2go app. So, I got motofail2go to say exploit complete, and reset the phone.
Problem is, its still screwed up from RSD, and it only boots on 'factory'. I got the root checker app, and it's still saying I don't have root - problems might be related, I'm not sure.

RSD fails every god damn time I run it. "preflash validation failed for GPT"
Any ideas? Please?
Update: I can get it to Flash ICS, but it won't overwrite 3 files, and the system version stays at 4.1.1. It also won't root with motofail2go.
I'll never update anything! I've NEVER seen a new version get rid of so many features - Google needs to remember it whole "Don't be evil" slogan. I could of literally dropped the phone in a pile of **** and done less damage than "upgrading" to jellybean.
I'm about ready to just buy a $100 phone off eBay that isn't ****ed up. If I could get a froyo phone with tethering, I wouldn't even need to root it.

[Q] most recent verizon software versions?

I rooted my phone via PwnMyMoto when I first got my Moto X. Then the OTA happened, and I held off on it until someone came out with a new root method (RockMyMoto). So I used the Moto X Toolkit to restore my recovery.img from a file titled "VZW_XT1060_4.2.2-13.9.0Q2.X-116-MX-17-53_CFC_1FF.xml" and proceeded to take the OTA. However after my phone finished rebooting, I got an error message saying something to the effect of "the software update has failed!". But I checked my version #s and they seemed to be up-to-date with the OTA, and I can't pull any more software updates... and my root was gone. I then ran RockMyMoto and all the steps seemed to go smoothly. Can someone confirm that I have the right version #s?

Thanks!

idk what flashed and what didn't flash when you tried to take the ota but it doesn't seem to have flashed everything or maybe anything. Your FW is still .51 not .57 which is the ota FW version. restoring recovery might not have been enough because if your /system was changed by any rooted apps then the update would have failed (which is probably why it did). There are several options for how to take the ota, and you would benefit the most from learning how to use fastboot/adb instead of toolkits because then you will know what is done and what hasn't been done. you can also just flash the ota to your phone as well instead of taking through the phone itself. You will lose your data flashing it though. But if you want to take the ota, just flash recovery.img and system.img in fastboot and then put the "ota file" in your /cache folder. Do some reading and you can solve your problems and won't run into close to as many in the future because you will actually know whats going on with the phone instead of using toolkits for the phone.
