After an adventure in Froyo I have found many things to be strange since the update. I was curious how I could do a full wipe and reinstall of Froyo so I get the experience of a brand new phone.
What is the process?
Ummm...go into settings, privacy, then factory reset. Note...this WILL NOT revert back to an older version of Android.
I have done that.
You may have seen my other posts and frustrations with Froyo.
What I really wanted was to completely remove my OS and install again so that there is NO pieces of the past OS or other remnants left over. I am guessing this is only possible if I unlock / root.

Nexus One Stock, not rooted (yet)
Got a couple bugs since manually updating EPE54B > FRF95B....OTA FRF85B > FRF91. Swype absolutely will not work anymore (i'm in the beta and have been communicating with Swype Support, including Logcat, with which i'm not able to ID the problem), when using Settings > Manage Applications I get a loading screen that never goes away. Documents To Go won't work in Word to go, Sheet to go, and i'm not sure about Slideshow, but PDF seems to work. WiFi may or may not work I didn't have time when I had access to thouroughly test it, I just seem to recall it wouldn't connect to the free WiFi at the bar I was at.
Other than these relatively minor problems everything runs great, the device is blazing fast no matter what it is i'm doing
I was thinking about Wipe data/factory reset through recovery or maybe just try Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset. I really miss Swype but at the same time factory reset might be a little over the top just to maybe get Swype back, although I really don't mind reinstalling all my stuff from previous backups (multiple). Having said that, anybody got any ideas on which might be the best way to go about this? I did clear the cache in recovery after the FRF91 OTA, although Swype, DTG, ect, weren't working post FRF85B and that didn't change.
Also my understanding is Wipe data/factory reset will take me back to EPE54B just the way it came to me from the factory, correct? Or will it keep the OS updates?
Thanks
Good Morning All,
I have done some searching and have not found anything specific to my question on Factory Resets and Frozen Software Updates. I am assuming a Factory Reset will essentially thaw anything I have frozen with Titanium since it is essentially reverting the phone back to factory default. However, when I have updated ROMs or installed new ones, I have always been told and had to thaw Software Udpate before updating otherwise it would cause issues even with performing a data wipe.
Is this the same with a Factory Reset? Or do I need to thaw Software Update before doing a factory reset?
I am assuming a Factory Reset is different from a Data Wipe but I am not 100%.
Normally, I would just thaw the freeze since it is so easy, but I had lost root reverting back to the stock kernel from Blitzkreig. I know I can just regain root and then thaw, but I would prefer to not waste my time if it is necessary. Also, it is just something good to know for future use.
Appreciate the help here.
I want to permanently customize setting and apps that stay even after factory resetting phone. so that when I*factory reset*my phone, it would revert back to*almost*factory settings, except with a few alterations. For example: some extra apps (maybe settings within those apps already selected), certain an!droid settings already selected (developer tools, unknown sources etc), superuser with permissions already granted for certain apps, basically things beyond the scope of just pre-installed apps.
I understand the phone would need to be rooted, I would want to keep the original rom with the above mentioned changes. Of course I can always make a backup and simply load it, but I want to know if it can be done through*factory reset. I only have experience rooting and loading custom roms (on many devices*, I've always done so since droid 1) but I have never made a custom rom, which from my understanding, is what I need to do to for something like this.*
Basically if you guys can tell me if I am in the right direction, completely off track and where should I go from here to make it happen.
Factory reset is a reset. Not a partial reset.
Everything you're looking for is accomplished with a nandroid backup. Which also "resets" your phone to the point the backup was created.
But to directly answer you ....no, I've never heard of a way to modify a factory reset. ?

That's exactly what you would need to do -- basically make your own stock-based rom. It will require an unlocked bootloader (not just root) - no way around this.
Good Luck
Edit: Keep in mind that OTA updates will absolutely not be possible. You would need to make a new stock-based rom built off the new SBF when a new updates comes out (assuming you want updates).
Your first step will be downloading and researching the SBF for your particular phone. Find the SBF files here:
sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
You'll need to find a guide on custom roms, and learn the procedures. Once you have succeeded and packaged up your rom with all the modifications you want, it will *absolutely* survive a "factory reset".
Additionally, KJ is correct. The 'nandroid' backup option in custom recovery makes this an extremely easy process (though it won't 'survive' a factory reset, it's easy enough to restore back assuming you saved the backup somewhere accessable). Building a ROM is considerably more involved. I personally wouldn't attempt it just for the convenience of having persistent apps and a few mods that survive resets.
Finally, if you are using Safestrap, or don't have a custom recovery, this is NOT possible.
I have searched all over this site for hours, and all I find are old descriptions to restore S5 to factory default. Most of them I know do not work any more.
The guides that I have found to do this are old, and we need a specific guide. Like some mention to use Samsungs old app, Kies. It is now Smart Switch. And Kies wouldn't install factory settings on certain phones including the Galaxy.
I know that with Super SU, I can remove the root from my device. But if my the OC4 is something I downloaded from here, with "rooted" in the title, then I probably shouldn't just use Smart Switch to restore to factory default.
What do I need to download besides Odin? Or if there is an updated article on here for OC4 that I am somehow missing, please give the link. I used FlashFire for the rooting.
Thank you!
Lets say I want to not void my warrenty. How do I get back to factory settings. I want to wipe everything.
My phone is getting too slow, and most of it has to do with rooting. Apps crash, phone camera is almost unusable, and getting back to the home screen takes some time, and major delays in switching apps. I don't want to do this and find I bricked the phone by unrooting with SuperSU, then doing the regular method of restoring factory settings.
Thanks.
Hello everyone. I asked this in another thread for a specific ROM, but I figured it'd be better to have my own thread about this. I have not had a custom ROM in many years. This is mostly due to living in the U.S. and having a locked bootloader since (I believe) the Samsung Galaxy S6. I finally purchased an Exynos device and have the true root with TWRP that I have been missing for so long. There used to be no way to keep apps and app data when changing ROMs. If I were to use this ROM is there a way to keep existing apps and the app-data associated with them? Or is a clean install followed by re-downloading everything and then setting it all back up again the only option when changing ROMs still?
P.S. I like the idea of a full wipe still. That just gets rid of everything, and I like the clean start for the most part. I just didn't know with the way these backups work now (it used to be just a single backup of the entire ROM, but now it is broken into sections) if possibly one could restore apps and app data after the full wipe and loading the new ROM. Then everything would be a clean install (fresh start) with the exception of the apps.
