Without loading a custom rom can someone point me to a metamorph theme for a dark or translucent notification bar? I took a look at the forums but they all seem to need custom roms.
I want to use this method to get a rooted phone just for the purpose of changing the notification bar so I avoid burning the screen in any more.
Burn in?
The framework needs to be de-odex'ed before themes can happen. Which means custom rom.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for when that happens.
If you look at the the area where notification bar is when it's hidden or when you're in a dark fullscreen app you can still see it ghosted on the screen since it's constantly bright white. Quite annoying. I've already got some - hoping to avoid more.
Don't have anything like that on mine...
Many of us have the burn in, me too. Black bar eliminates it.
You should look into modaco ROMs. Modaco ROMs are designed to be close as possible to stock ROM, with the ability to theme and customize them if you wish. Just install r20 modaco and metamorph the bar you want.
A tip is search the forum for black matte theme. That's what I use to combat my screen burn in. It's an amazing looking theme, you won't be disappointed.
since you rooted the phone, you could install the custom RA recovery and then flash a stock rooted Froyo ROM which has been deodexed and then you can go on from there

So I have Froyo on my nexus one, and I'm trying to change the status bar.
I have used MetaMorph and NinjaMorph in the past with no problems.
However, whilst applying a morph, the wait just takes forever, and I get bored.
So I tried to make my own using NinjaMorph, same thing. It just takes forever.
Any suggestions?
What about the status bar are you trying to mod? In depth mods can not be done due to the odex'd files. You need to wait for the source or a way to de-odex the system files.
The background color/image. I know it can be done, I think. (How's that for a contradictory statement?) Right now its gray, but I'm shooting for more of either a black or possible opaque one.

I have only seen gray/clear. Look in the Themes section (should have been posted there in the first place) that is as far as they have come with themes, like I said, because of the odex's.

I have had no success with morphing the status bar in froyo....Britoso said he has, but I don't know his setup.
Imho your best bet is to flash from zip.
click below
CLEAR statusbar
GRAY statusbar
BLACK statusbar
There is a clear statusbar mod that has a black notification background, but it had to be flashed instead of morphed.
Or use adb...pull framework-res.apk, change images, push, reboot. Done.
Yeah, morphs don't work but you can pull the apk and change the images.
The problem is with the text colour at the moment, you can't change it because it's in code and for that we either need the source or the deodexed files so we can reverse engineer.
So, you can get any colour bar you want, you're just stuck with black text at the moment for clock, date and tickers.
Has anyone figured out how? Last I checked, it wasn't possible to put white text on a black background or something

Look around in the Themes and Apps section; I believe there are quite a few mods out there to do this. Granted, you've got to be rooted to apply any of those anyway (I think?), so you might as well grab a Froyo ROM with it built in

I've been searching, but all of them seem to not be for froyo I'm already rooted so thats not a problem
Then check out the Kang-O-Rama Froyo release. It's got teh black bar sexiness with white text readability.
there is a black status bar for froyo but right around the clock area is gray due to the color problems... its def there, just look for the Morphs for froyo. I tried it, didnt like it, went back to solid gray
Froyo finally has a black status bar. I'm using the one with the gray clock area. But a few ROMs now have the full black bar.
Once official update is released it will be easy to do with metamorph.
Ok so i was searching around on the Desire thread and stumbled across this thread..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775970.
As far as i can tell it does not work on stock based ROMS.. but it is suppose to work on most versions of CyanogenMod.. I will most likely be trying it out soon and will report back afterwards..
I've used it a few times with sense roms but it doesn't allow you to change much, just the notification bar really.
It works on sense. I changed the battery icon and the boot screen animation.
Okay I stand corrected. This does work for stock ROMS.. Though its not quite an entire theme.. It is a nice and easy way to change notification icons, battery icon and status bar..
I want a theme that's black/cyan for my aria. It's running RC1 [from the RC1 thread], and I've already changed all the text colors to a cyan that matches the original cyano mod power strip/bar. but there are plenty other colors floating around (lockscreen, incoming call, battery icon, etc).
I'm a noob at fiddling around with actual the actual files (apks, jars), and I'm scared of installing a theme that's not meant for this rom (will it even boot? i got stuck in boot loop when i tried a cm6 theme >.<). I like a clean look like the glass themes (can't post links.. urg) but in cyan (and able to run on this rom/phone). Metamorph won't run on this phone. Is there a way to flash a MM theme without it (guess not?)?
..is there a black/cyan theme floating around that'll work for the aria rc1?
Im not sure if its exactly what you're looking for but if you search "CyanogenMod ADW Theme" in the market place there is a theme that sounds like what you're looking for. And its meant to work with ADW which is the launcher that comes preinstalled with CM6.
lol I remember seeing that one, but it looks like someone puked cyan all over the screen >_<
Also, I'm looking for more of a simple rom theme, and not so much actually changing icons/buttons.
In fact, if anyone can teach me how to change colors (lock screen, battery icon--so it's cyan and not green, incoming/ongoing call screen, other notification bar icons--alarm/wifi/mobile network/signal strength/etc, menu/setting font colors, icon highlight color, etc) manually, I'd be just as happy to go through the labor myself (..i think). A point to a tutorial would help too
EDIT: nevermind. I found some tutorials and stuff in the theme forums. I'll just read up there and figure it out.
My idea is to create a high contrast white theme, with pure white notification bar and pure white menu popup, and all pure black icons. (i got inspired by HerrKuk's screenshot)
The reason for this is that we're on an lcd device (and black doesn't get black).
When being on the amoled nexus one, there was a strong urge to get everything as black as possible, where as on the O2x, white would be the most battery friendly..
Stock android 2.2 is leaning towards that, but i just do not like the greyishness of stock.
Try SiMi clock with black text and white background and you'll get an idea of the final look that I'm after..
But, the framework needs black text on notification bar to get this theme on stock or paul's rom. I do not know how to do that.
I guess from vanilla rom it would be a walk in the park because it would only need the gray png's tweaked to white, but the handy power widget control for the notification area is not in vanilla android, and I cannot live without it.
Can anybody help me out by either porting power control to vanilla rom, or by changing the framework text on paul's rom to black?
That would be awesome

lol, 18 months ago we were working out how to change the text to white to use with black notification bars on stock Android...
It can be done, you need to make changes in framework-res.apk xml and services.jar code.
Know how to use apktool (here and here) and smali/baksmali (here)? That's where you need to start.
Once you've got that I can show you where... you'll need these skills if you want to do deep theming anyway.
Sounds great!

Cheers mate, I'll look into it and see if I can get my head around it..
I would like those skills, I just need the time to learn them..
Since I'm impatient I will do up an simple version based off the vanilla rom to start with, and then see if I can do the xml and jar edits for the black bar later
