I am running the stock 2.1 from sprint on my hero and its rooted i was wondering if there was any roms out there for my phone
Uhhhhh.... have you even looked at the forum? It's full of them. LOL
The ones by Flipzmode and Damageless are probably the most popular ones that keep Sense and if you're looking for more of a vanilla Android build check out the ones by Darchstar
Thanks man i havent been on here for a long time so i kinda got lost on what was going on
collection of Roms
here is a list of current Roms on one page:

Since, from a hardware perspective, the Droid Eris is identical to the Hero (except for the radio ROM, that is), will (or can) the devs here use the Eris release to put together Hero custom ROMs as well? Or am I oversimplifying things? There's lots of talk here about "every custom ROM has bugs", but isn't that because they're based on an early leaked test version of 2.1? If I'm off base, please set me straight!

The eris leak was the first 2.1 leak, but it is Verizon, we already have sprint 2.1 roms, but they also have minors bugs.....

I realize that, but as of yesterday, the Eris ROM is no longer an early leaked version.

i think flipz basis most of his rom off the eris builds.
i dont see how our roms could get any more perfect

That depends on where you look on XDA. Some experienced ROM builders say that all custom ROMs have issues. That's not to say that the release from Verizon won't have issues, too.

Hello all,
I am new to this site and new to the custom ROM rooting, I not the biggest fan of android 2.1 so I looking for a new ROM, does anyone have any suggestion's on ROM's I could use for my phone and the directions, since I being new I have no idea how to root. I have the Sprint CDMA Hero, Thanks in advance and sorry for being a newbie
My favorite 1.5 rom was Fresh 1.1 accompanied by the gumbo kernel.
You'll have to do a little searching to find it though, pretty much everything has been built on 2.1 for the last few months.
Ya I notice most newer ROM's are based off 2.1 which is fine with me, I just not a fan of the andriod 2.1 update, lots of apps just run randomly, and horrible call and dial lag

Not a fan of Android 2.1? Or Sense 2.1? I'd go try darchdroid before going back to anything 1.5
+1 for DarchDroid.
Check the Stickies or the Wiki. Everything you need to Root and flash ROM's is in those.
can anyone hit me with a link for a stock 2.1 or 2.2 rom for sprint hero or is there a way to run sense with cyanogen
The Hero doesn't have a stock 2.2 with Sense. There are a couple AOSP 2.2 ROMs though. And no, you can't run Sense on Cyanogenmod. It's Android only, no Sense at all, and anything HTC or Sense-related won't work in it.
As for the Stock 2.1 ROMs, there are a couple of them in the Development forum. They aren't hard to find, just read the titles of the threads or use the Search feature (a good thing to keep in mind here). One of the stock ROMs is linked in my signature below.
I had a look through the Android development section and couldn't really find anything above 2.2. My GF has a captivate and she's finally willing to do away with the carrier installed stuff.
And IF there are no 2.3 ROMs (which really doesn't make any sense because I've been running 2.3 on my DZ since the start of January), what are some of the better 2.2 ones?

Don't Forget Serendipity, great support ,frequent updates
2.3 ROMs aren't out yet.
But there are some really nice 2.2.1 ROMs, di11igaf's rom being one of them

Serendipity is the best one I've found, Mike has a great eye for design, and he and Chance have great ideas on functionality. They pay close attention to detail and update the ROM frequently with easily flashed .zips in recovery (no wiping involved unless it's a major update). It's built on 2.2.1.

Care to enlighten the masses on this? Cyanogen's been trolling (IMO) on his wiki:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Flashing_CyanogenMod
"NOTE: As of right now CyanogenMod is not available for the Samsung Galaxy S family. Please check the wiki or the Samsung Galaxy S sub-forum for updates."
But then again, I suppose if you have a large amount of expertise and win in your arsenal, you could fit all of the witchcraft to the Captivate, unless I'm a complete noob and Cyanogen got a ROM hidden away that I'm not aware of.
Serindipity is one that I've been looking into. I have her phone ready to rock and roll, rooted + CWM. Just need to decide on a ROM
I find it strange that the Galaxy S lineup still doesn't have a publicly available 2.3 ROM... considering the first device to ship with 2.3 was the Nexus S. IIRC it has a near identical hardware set as the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, I9000 etc.
LOVE Pargaon RC6....Great ROM! Stable, fast, and great GPS! It is 2.2.1. No 'working' 2.3 roms out as of yet!

Here's a captivate update zip. Follow the instructions on the CM forums for the initial install using the GT-I9000 rom, and then follow the update instructions using this captivate package.

As for it not making sense, The whole reason you have been able to run it is that HTC likes putting the source code up as to where we are still trying to get it from Samsung. Heck 2.2 official just dropped to day. lol
You will get 10 different answers as to some good roms. Just have a read in the threads and chose one that seems good to you.
My girlfriend's old flip phone broke, so I set her up on my old G1 with cyanogen 4.
She likes it but it is android 1.6 so a lot of apps don't work.
I see a lot of roms talking about flashing radios and such and am lost (I am spoiled by safestrap on my D4).
Was looking for a good gingerbread or later rom that will function (calls, wifi, gps,bt,audio, camera, etc) and a detailed how to on flashing the rom and any required radios/kernals/etc. I tried cyanogen 6.1, but it kept rebooting.
Thanks in advance.
EzGingerbread is very stable and eeks just about every last drop of speed the old G1 is capable of providing. The opening post of that thread has pretty extensive instructions.
He also provides links to older versions of apps that work well. Newer versions of some apps like Maps are just too bloated to run on the G1.

Check out Royalknight6190s ROM Bible, and my recently posted G1 Oracle. I would recommend Feoyo by Laszlo, or any of the variants. Gingerbread is not a great idea on the G1. Take a look in the G1 XDA wiki for guides. Google's a good resource as well.
Do your own research if you want a ROM that lives up to your OWN personal needs. Which will probably be speed on a G1. So go for something old and lightweight.
Also, this is a development forum this thread should be in Q&A.
I agree that Froyo by Lazlo was a good build, but you will need to flash a different kernel over it - either Farmatito's or EZTerry's. There's a known battery drain bug with the stock kernel.
thanks for the input guys, I finally hunted down the old hboot and danger spl files, as well as a tiny gapps and have cm6.1 on it.
I might have to add in the EZTERRY 14mb hack, but that will have to come later.
