(A Few) TOPAZ QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS HERE!!! - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit: We now have a whole Q&A Forum...

Ok theres something I've been wonderin, it might be a toddler question but what are the guidelines for full Backup/Restore from one ROM to another (with same rom/sense build)? (using SPBbackup, RescoBackup, or SKtools)
And when I know I can't do a FULL restore what can I restore? (ex: Dutty r15 23569 --> Nhathoa 23123) prob not registry, but what about sys files?
Or if its just a different version of the same rom.. for example --
-- Full backup Energy Cookie Dinik 23569 (july2) -> Full restore after flashing Energy Sense2.5 standard. (and lets say I skinned a few things and installed apps like cleanRAM, IconChanger, Opera 10.. before the backup) -- Would it work?
Thanks.

Basically, the only clean restore would be the same ROM to the same ROM, minus PIM data.
Let's say you're running Dutty HG15 23569 and he releases HG 16 23569 with fixes, whether registry, programs whatever, you would end up restoring over the changes.
With Manila, even if you back up your own ROM and restore, its not a good idea to restore your PIM data back to Manila as its been known to cause it to crash. However PIM backup works well for this.
I'm not saying it 'won't' work, but it 'can' cause issues.

I see.. Thanks!
So when restoring a backup from HG r15 to r16 like u said, besides PIMbackup, would any of these options be safe to restore
-databases
-registry
-system files
-device
-force rom upgrade (im not even exactly sure what this action does, just an option in SPB)
-Also Settings exporter from the same CHT ver.
Thanks for the help!

Use pim backup!!!
you better off using PIM backup and you wont screw it up...Use mortscript to create a script to install the files you need on first boot...(XDA-UC is written in Mortscript.). Just make .reg files, .cabs and what ever else you need , edit XDA-UC to your needs and you are ready to go!

Force upgrade is for different ROM builds. I wouldn't use it.
I use a combination depending on what I am restoring.
For same ROM restoring, I use SPB Backup with PIM disabled, and Google sync (gmail as exchange server) for contacts, e-mail and calendar.
For different ROMs, I only restore Gmail, my exported registries such as my sound settings, owner info, and various other tweaks I apply and databases.
Naturally any program specific settings would be fine.
As far as registries and system files, you could be restoring something that's incompatible or an older version.
Sashimi and User Config are 2 alternatives for auto installing your stuff.
Hope this helps.

Yeah I use XDA_UC with very few configs cuz I'm never sure if certain stuff will restore correctly. I seem to have trouble with settings exporter.
How do I restore specific program configs (bsbtweaks, advanced config, Tabs) without using the UC exporter or a full restore? Can I do it with SPB?
Because I like UC but just for CABs and PIMrestore (sometimes CHTedits)..
Sorry for all the Q's, I've been flashin a lot lately and always end up doin manual config labor and soft reseting a million times. But thanks a lot for the help!

I should note that the reason I don't use the Exporter is because I used it a bit before and when I would import the settings the bottom row of quicklinks would be all mangled and everything seemed glitchy. does this mean I was doing something wrong? I'm not sure but I think I remember NRGZ28 mentioning something in the changelog about an update/fix for UC so maybe I just need to try again.

How can I tell which Hard SPL / Factory SPL I have?
Hi All,
I have been reading the forums for a couple of weeks and I really want to flash my AT&T Pure with a new TOPAZ ROM. However, I got a second hand PURE and I don't know if they have done any modifications yet.
How can I tell which version or if they did change the stock SPL? Also, if there was a fail during the upgrade of the SPL would it still show the version and the phone still be functional?
This is what the bootloader screen says:
TOPAZ210 32M
SPL-1.83.0000
MicroP-Topaz (LED) v11
Turbo HW/Turbo SW
Thanks in advance!

It should say
SPL-2.51.OliNex or 1.83.OliNex
And it depends on the error you encountered. Did you try the upgrade already?

Thanks for looking into this. Well, I tried once to do upgrade (before checking what SPL version I had) and I got everything, but then the screen just showed 0%. I waited for a little bit, but then I just soft reset because it wasn't progressing. It shouldn't take that long, right? From the thread on the Olinex post, it seems like it should be over in a minute or so.
So does this mean I still have the stock spl?

Possibly, I just upgraded the latest version right when I got the device. I did have a bit of trouble with my upgrade though. Did you follow the steps exactly?
I ended up having to install a cab file (enablerapinew). Then it worked fine.
You can always try removing the battery/SD/SIM for a min or 2, put em back in, establish connection, then follow the steps.
Otherwise you should read the troubleshooting and Q&A.

SPL-1.83.0000 is the stock SPL I'm pretty sure by the way

I tried again following their "automatic flash" but then I got the error of the server being down or something. I will try again. I have flashed ROMs on other phones, but this one is giving me a bit of a problem. I also tried the Manual version, but it didn't put the phone in the bootloader mode, it kinda just stood there.
So you followed the directions like they posted? Any other hints or tips? I installed the enablerapinew too.
EDIT:
I figured it out, I am such an idiot. Thanks for your help. After installing the enable I did a soft reset. That was what I did not do. Thanks. Any recommendation on a stable ROM? I am looking at Nhathoa's

Nice, yeah NhatHoa is good. I've been using the Energy ROMs.. close-to-stock and fully loaded versions available.

begin with htc pure rom install
I'm not finding link for how to take an htc pure with AT&T rom and install Tom Topaz Rom. Looking for link for instructions. Right now it has the AT&T rom and I don't know how to take the file and apply it to the phone. The AT&T provided rom is an .exe file.

Do you have Hard-SPL already?

Can't get sms dialog to automatically rotate to landscape mode
Hmm, I'm still not sure if this is the right thread to ask a general, non-rom-development topaz question... It says so in the first post, but the thread is located in the rom development section - strange...
Anyway, I'll try: I'm using the latest cookie sense 2.5 energy rom for my diamond2, but the problem existed on all previous (energy) rom versions - whatever I try to add to the touch tools' rotation manager (or g-config), I can't get the sms writing dialog (htc "threaded" or "normal" version) to automatically rotate to landscape mode when I turn my phone. Nothing happens... I have a default hard button assigned for doing that and that works flawlessly. Other apps added to g-config rotate automatically...
I'm desperate, anyone willing to help? Is there some setting I have to enable or some registry tweak to apply or something? I searched the forum but users don't seem to have any problems with that, so I must be doing something wrong...
Thanks!

Potentially Broken T.HD - Need help!

Hi All,
I have used the search function - but ended up getting confused.
I have a Touch HD that I bought in January of this year (2009) from Mobiles.co.uk (Carphone Warehouse) and is on the O2 network (UK).
I have been using Dutty's ROMs (both 6.1 and 6.5) for months now - and have always used USPL when flashing, using the SD card method.
Over the past 3 days, my HD has been playing up.
When it started, I was using Dutty's R7. The radio was 1.14.something.something. The device was working perfectly, and I was really happy with the ROM and the way the phone was working. I had installed NO other applications with the exception of a different taskbar and obviously SDKCerts.cab
First of all, HTC Sense stopped working - it would cycle between "Loading HTC Sense" and "Tap here to launch HTC Sense"
Then, when rebooting the device, it just hung on the "Smart Mobility" screen. I left it in case it just needed a while to boot, but nothing.
I had no other option than to hard reset.
It worked OK for a few hours, but then HTC Sense started to crash again. So I flashed a new ROM - Lost in Asia or whatever it is called.
Same symptoms.
I flashed Dutty's R7 back and also the new 1.17 radio.
No joy.
The phone also hangs for ages on the Smart Mobility screen - perhaps a full minute where as before, it used to be no more than 15 seconds or so.
The following is displayed on the "Smart Mobility Screen"
1.17.25.09
52.69.25.37H
1.59.Dutty
The bootloader screen (before running USPL) shows the following:
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) V6
So the question I'm asking - is... Is my phone suffering some kind of hardware malfunction, or is this a known and fixable fault that I somehow have caused?
If the phone looks like it is malfunctioning, how would I go about returning it to stock so that the CPWH repair centre do not know it's had an unofficial ROM installed?
I'd like to add that whilst I'm very PC literate, I'm no programmer and a lot of the stuff here is alien to me hence my confusion - I just know how to flash a new ROM etc.
Thanks to anyone that takes the time to help me - I'd be really thankful to anyone that helps me sort this - be it tell me how to fix the device, or tells me to take it back!
Thanks in advance & Regards,
Chris.
Will D/L and flash Dutty's R0 Holy Grail ROM and see if that makes a difference...
If you've been using uspl than it will still be the stock spl and thus you could try to load the stock rom from htc.com specially designed for the touch hd(blackstone). I've read and heard from a lot of people that after flashing several roms and even hard resetting afterwards, some bits and pieces stay behind and flashing an original stock rom will undo this. I don't think it's a radio issue. And another big thing if you use dutty R7 that's a 1.56+ rom so you should have the right uspl olinex software to load these roms, if you used older software then problems with colouring and other things will appear.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So is it perhaps better to revert to the original ROM before flashing a cooked ROM? I always Hard Reset twice after flashing as understand this helps.
OK - so the 1.56+ situation - I was under the impression that using the latest USPL (2.5) when flashing was OK? I have never had the colour problem... but perhaps if I'm flashing wrong then these problems could be to do with this?
Thanks again...
Chris
The Sense Manila has known bug that you need to press home to load it (sometimes).
For you case, I would suggest you to clean up your SD Card.
there may be several file that cause your system to freeze.
So, format your SD, hard reset.. and cross fingers.
Yes, It is better to revert to the original rom once in a while before flashing a new rom, if u used the latest uspl and the colours are ok, then you've done that right and it will probably be bits and pieces of old flashed roms floating around on the device.
Best to revert to stock rom and hard reset twice.
Afterwards flash the rom u want. If everything works again. U could hspl instead of uspl, hspl is more stable if u ask me. And you can go back to stock spl if you have waranty issues. there's a tut on that to in the rom section.

I forgot to mention - that was one of the things I did. Previously, I had loads of email folders from all the ROM installs.
Now I have a folder containing the useful CAB files that I need, and the ROM image file. Thats it.
It's only a 1gb card as my 8gb card gave up the ghost.
Thanks for the suggestion though and my apologies for not mentioning this in the initial post.
From reading the Dummies guide, am I right in thinking that in order to use a 1.55+ ROM (such as Dutty's Holy Grail R0) I only need to run USPL and then flash (as opposed to flash a newer SPL) as my stock SPL is already 1.54?

Thanks for this - I didnt realise the device would retain bits and bobs, and you may well be right in that things are getting corrupted in there!
Which is the best stock ROM to flash - is there a link to one? I looked on the Wiki and there seem to be loads... which will work on a UK T8282?!
Thanks again!

what do you mean hang for age?
1 minute is nothing if it turns out boot up.
There are chances that the nand flash needs to refresh and wasted some times. But it won't be forever.

there's an original rom on htc.com for blackstone just use that one.
hope it will turn out right for you
I thought I'm the only one who had this problem. Last Sunday my blackstone started to freeze on the smart mobility screen too. I flash 3 different roms because I thought its an rom issue with no luck. On Monday it even managed to hardreset itself after I waited for about 15 min in the smart mobility screen.
After that I flashed a stock rom and it seem to be fine by now.
But now I will flash a custom again, the stock one is so 6.1

Questions about changing ROM

The first time is always the hardest.
Recently I've been playing with the registry to try and lower the 'lowest volume' setting for my headset with no success. Apparently I need to change the audiopara file. I'm thinking that changing the ROM may help. So here's a few questions:
1 - If I decide to go back I can download my original ROM from here (Generic Australia R3AA013 Software Update)?
2 - Do you reckon Christians 6.5 ROM is pretty good? Do you recommend changing ROM?
3 - Does each ROM come with it's own registry etc or do they rely on stuff on the phone (does flashing the ROM remove everything?).
Thanks!
.... sorry can't post links. Feel free to recommend a good 6.5 ROM.

3 yes and no; no, the rom is replaced and most probably rilphone.dll, but radio and spl are normally untouched

Hey guys. I just got my x1 back from repairs (they fixed the nasty crack for free XD) and wanted to know if I can Hardspl again. When I put the stockspl, the page said that dont bother using this if you are gonna put hardspl back. But I had to for warranty reasons.
Anyway...can i just flash hardspl again?
Thanks in advance

3 - Okay - what is the radio and spl?
Cheers.
That Energy ROM looks pretty sweet. May go for that one.
Another Question;
The 'NEW ORIGINAL X1 and X2 ROMS update 3.2.2010' thread lists all the original ROMS (in my case Generic Australia R3AA013 Software Update).
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
So could I restore my X1 to it's original ROM by downloading from the Link above?
Why would you choose to take the time to back-up your ROM if you can just download the original?

1. Yes.
2. Some people flash their phones 2-3 times a day, so it's good to have something to fall back onto where everything is setup the way you want to. That being said, I don't back up my ROM, I just do a clean install every time I reflash.

Cool, thx.
When you do a hard-reset, which I've done recently, that take your phone back to square one. So I guess what I'm trying to work out is if it's necessary to back-up the ROM. Basically I'm being lazy.
I've downloaded two ROMs to try - Christian's ROM and Firestone V6.1.

I would advice on backing up your personal things: contacts, mail, messages, some settings if you want (like hw keybd layout...)
to back-up a rom is only useful if you change reg settings often and want to have a backup in case of system crash/failure
as you intend to change your rom once in a while a backup of one specific rom doesn't make sense you see? preserve your personal data, that does it
pim, sprite, spb, synch, myphone, ... there are many ways, read about them and decide for yourself
@truthglow did you try with your sd card taken out?

I've my person data sorted. All my contacts are stored in Windows Live - so all I need is the Windows Live app to retrieve my contacts.
I use online sync for my calendars - so no problem there. Don't care if I lose my SMS messages.
I've copied across any pictures.
I store all the .cabs for my favourite apps on my SD card.
I made some changes to the registry to try and adjust the headset volume but to no success.
So probably don't need to pack up my Rom.
I like the look of Spike's X1.5 ROM.

sounds reasonable so far
you can use apps to automatize (to a degree) the restoring of personal settings/apps/progs/data/...
e.g. with user customization (UC) or sashimi
that's especially useful when often flashing an update of the already installed rom, as menu structure and general reg layout is similar (expect for certain update)
that way you can easily get most of your customization done without major effort (except of course for the one time you need to config your uc tool), right after flashing, some roms even check for uc configuration during rom customization process
about the reg edit: did the adjustment not work or the export of the changed setting?
yes i did it

^ I edited the registry in an attempt to decrease the headset minimum volume (I found the minimum volume too loud for in call & listening to the radio).
I have since learnt that I need to change the audiopara file. But I don't have the expertise. So I'm hoping my new 6.5 ROM's headset volume is a little quieter .

Help.. I f..... up.. again :)

I am trying to get the cool 4 shortcut buttons and was directed to something called Cookies Home Tab. I installed it but no program showed up.
I would then try and uninstall it an install it again with sense deactivated, but when choosing uninstall on the program (which shows up on the "remove program" menu, but not in the start menu) the "busy-cursor" is just rotating and nothing happens. I tried powering off and try again, and the same thing happens: It says its uninstalling, but it takes forever and nothing happends.
Can someone help? How do I get the program properly installed. I am running a danish original rom and assumed it would be compatible when directed there. I am not sure where to find my sense version. Can it be that its 2.16xxxxx or is that windows?

If you cannot find your manila version, or at least search on how to find it, you really need to learn more before you mess up your phone.
I assume you did a hard reset after your registry issue. If not I suggest you do as you will probably have to do it a few times as you attempt to customize your device.
Your manila version can be found in Settings\Device Info\Software Info.
Read the thread on Cookies Home tab for compatable versions and install instructions. Post your questions there.
p.s. Thanks for implying...
I am really sorry for sounding like a total noob, but I DID read the post, installation instructions and whats not. I also read the "how to find your manila version" which also said to go to settings tab - device info - software info. The thing is that its danish on my phone and I cant find anything called device info on my tab, only "about" which leads me to a webpage with a lot of copyright and legal mumble jumble.
When going to settings - advanced - about the device I get a tab called version, where it says Rom Version 2.16.403.1 (67041) dan. But I dont know if thats it.
But lord, how many original stock roms can there be? Its a pretty new phone and I installed every HTC update available to me. I must say that configuring this little diamond seems to take a rocket scientist or above. I can use a computer pretty well, but getting a little modifications to the HTC UI seems to take a phd
You seem like a nice guy, and I would like to learn. Maybe you can help me out so I dont have to ask so many noobish questions. I really tried to learn by myself but it is a new world to me and it is quite overwhelming.
1) I read that installing a rom is ireversible. Does that really mean that I under no circumstances can replace the original software? Is a cooked rom really a whole other OS and replace windows mobile 6.5 completely? Or is it just a modified windows?
2) What is the distinction between HTC Sense, Touch Flo and Manila, if any? As far as I read the black and white icons is manila and the colored ones is sense... Is that true? And does that mean that I cant use any programs that needs manila to run if I have the HTC Ui with the colored icons?
I hope the above questions helps me to a basic understanding, so I further on dont have to ask so many questions.
PS) after installing TD2 tools my screen rotation line in my system registry came back, and I got rid of the landscape.. Thats one problem solved. Call recording aswell. If I find a way to get these 4 shortcut-buttons available and set one of them to my to-do list I think Im done.. No more tampering.. I promise.

1) What exactly is the difference between installing Cookies Home tab and installing another rom? As I understand it, a rom is a whole other OS, where this software only is a skin? Correct?
Correct, The ROM is the whole OS, where CHT is a modification to the Sense (Manila) UI.
2) I read that installing a rom is ireversible. Does that really mean that I under no circumstances can replace the original software?
No, You must first install hard SPL to be able to flash a cooked(custom) ROM.
Once you install HSPL, your device is considered "out of warranty".
However you can reflash a Stock ROM and then reflash Stock SPL to return the phone to the factory state for warranty purposes. So it can be reverted.
3) What is the distinction between HTC Sense and Manila, if any?
They are one and the same, also referred to as Touch Flo 3D (TF3D)
4) The original question about getting Cookie to work, if someone feels like helping.
If you have installed Cookie's Home Tab and soft reset, when you are on your home screen you should see the flip clock (assuming that in Settings\System\Home\Items is set to HTC Sense), on top right of that is a little dash, this opens up additional panels for your shortcuts.
There should also be a new program possibly in settings or \Programs\Tools called CHTEditor to access your tab settings.
I suspect that it installed, you just didn't know how to access it.
Lemme know.

See above for answers. One quick word of advice; If the program interfaces with your today screen, phone functions, etc. install to device memory and never to Storage Card. Programs that just tweak the registry and settings can be installed to SD card.
Uhm, and I wouldn't be promising anything because its addicting. Once you pop, you can't stop!
Sorry.. I edited my post while you were answering. I found the preguide to roms which was just about basic enough to enlighten me. Your answers helped a lot to, and everything fell into place.
I do think that I will stay away from flashing as it seems like risky business.. The option to hard-reset without to much hassle seems like the emergency brake I like available to me
At the moment I am trying to reinstall Cookies Home Tab, but the installation just hangs.. Probably because it wasnt uninstalled correctly. Any tips other than Hard Resetting which means several hours of setup
Edit: Ahh f... it.. I may aswell do it.. All the tampering made my phone slow anyway.. Now I know what I need and can get it to work without too much experimenting..
Thanks dude.
I did some research on your stock ROM and it looks like you are running Manila 2.1 which is the older version so many tweaks you are attempting may be for 2.5.
You would be better off changing ROMs.
Here is a download of our stock ROM for warranty purposes, keep it just in case. You may have to register for the site, but you may also find a nice cooked ROM in your language on that site. Dutty is a great chef and I use his ROMs because of their stability.
I can attempt to walk you through HSPL, but there have been many issues lately. Almost seems like the only way to get it to work is to "donate" to the developer.
Okay Mr Dope Pusher.. i see where you are going.. Telling me to stay away from these sheningans and 1 hour later you got me hooked anyway
Jokes aside.. Yes.. I Do think I am gonna need some help here.. While the stock backup rom is downloading I will try and find out for myself, but I would very much like some confirmation on what to do before I take the leap.. Stay tuned and thank you very much.. Your help is very appriciated.
I have a question though.. Now I downloaded the stock rom, but what if my phone breaks when Duttys Rom is installed.. Then I wont be able to reinstall the original rom before sending it in for repair. And then Im screwed warranty wise, right?
..., in anticipation of your next question;
As long as you have over 50% battery and do not interupt the flash (unplug the USB) there are very few chances of it bricking.
I have never had it happen and most errors are correctable with a hard reset. It really sounds worse than it is.
Most devices get bricked because the user attempts to flash a cooked ROM w/o HSPL or a ROM or radio from another device.
I have attached 3 files.
Do the following after you download these files;
1. Remove your SIM and SD card.
2. Sync your device to your PC through Active Sync or WMDC depending on your windows version.
2. Copy the enablenewrapi.cab to your device through file explorer and install
to device memory.
3. Open both the SPL 1.83 and the RUU zip files and place contents of both into a new folder.
4. Run the RUU.exe and you should see a progress screen appear.
5. With any luck, you won't get stuck at 0% and the flash will complete.
As the screen states, it may take up to 10 minutes. You will see your device disconnect from active sync, which is normal. Let it run until it completes and do not open anything or let your PC go into standby. Also, you may want to disable your AV and any firewalls as these can mess with the installation.
Make sure you have greater than 50% battery before you attempt this as any interuption during the flashing process can brick your device.
If the steps above complete, you can go into bootloader mode by holding down both volume keys right after you hit the soft reset buton, but before the device begins to boot. You may have to try a couple of times if you are not fast enough. Or you can power off the device then hold both volume keys and press the power button. In bootloader mode which is a tri colored screen, you should see SPL: 1.83.Olinex, then you will know it has installed correctly.
From this point, you are able to flash any cooked Topaz ROM.
The ROM flashing process is the same as HSPL in regards to placing the ROM's .nbh file into the same folder as the custom RUU.exe, so keep that RUU.exe file for future use.
You need only flash HSPL once to continue to flash as many ROMS as you like.
If you ever have to revert to stock, you would install the ROM you downloaded, then find the StockSPL file from the HSPL thread and follow the instructions.
Always hard reset after you flash a new ROM.
**If you are not successful in flashing HSPL, you will need to go to the HSPL thread and read up on opening a ticket with HTC Support, which will give you an autoinstaller that will work once you donate through the program. I believe they are asking for 4gbp.
Ok.. And one of the above files is the Dutty Rom? Edit: Oh I se.. It isnt.. I will download it then..
Will it look and feel similar to Sense, just with more features and customisation options?
You write: Most devices get bricked because the user attempts to flash a cooked ROM w/o HSPL or a ROM or radio from another device.
Can you please elaborate? I understand it like you need to make sure I install the hspl first before cooking, but "radio" from another device. Please explain it for a dummy as me, so I dont attempt to do it by accident.

No, I have not provided you with a ROM, just the HSPL unlocker.
You can go to HTCPedia and search for a Danish ROM with manila 2.5, or take a look through the ROM development thread and find one from another chef. It should have Sense installed but 2.5 unless it states otherwise. 2.5 has more features and functions and is the most current.
Many ROMs are multilanguage so I believe you select your region language when the ROM first loads. Just look for one that supports DAN. I use WWE (World Wide English) so I am not experienced with multilanguage variations.
Just make sure your HSPL is successful before you attempt to flash a ROM.
If you search hard enough you may even find a ROM with CHT cooked in which will alleviate you from having to install it yourself, but I suspect that your previous install didn't work because your on Sense 2.1
I have never used CHT, but use Max Manila Themes which is just a different mod, but I am thinking about trying CHT.
I'll take a look and see what I can find.
Regarding Radios;
A stock ROM comes with the OS and Radio ROM.
Most cooked ROMs take just the OS and tweak it for best performance, adding programs, removing other useless programs and do not include the radio ROM, therefore you will still have your stock Radio unless you flash a cooked ROM that has included the radio (usually denoted in the title of the ROM by the radio#, i.e. 4.49.25.57 (which is a Topaz radio version)
The only time you can brick is you attempt to install a radio from another device (sometimes they work better) such as a Blackstone radio to a Topaz device unless your SIM is unlocked or attempting to flash a Topaz radio w/o HSPL.
Personally, there are enough Topaz radios posted in the radio thread that I don't need my SIM unlocked to try others.
Symptoms of a problem radio are poor signal strength, rapid battery loss and your device heating up.
I have switched my radio ROM a few times but honestly haven't noticed a difference from my stock radio.
The stock ROM you downloaded would replace your Stock Radio if you happen to flash to a different one.
Your region and carrier are also a factor in choosing a radio, so again, just stick to stock unless you have issues.
Dude.. Don't sweat it Bro, if its posted as a Topaz ROM then its got the Topaz Radio, the only thing you risk is not being able to connect to certain 3G bands.
I've used Dutty's R-8 and its not a bad ROM, but its a little outdated and I didn't see that it had multi language support.
I am really having a hard time locating a Danish language ROM.
I find FRE. GER, ITA, ESN, NLD, WWE, but no DAN????
"I am really having a hard time locating a Danish language ROM.

Then it aint just me being total clueless.. I cant find any either..
Im bafled by this world.. I basically have two modest demands: To record calls in mp3 and get easy access to my to-do list.. preferably on my homescreen, but just as good by one of the nifty Hotbuttons Ive seen in pictures..
To get those two modest demands fulfilled I either:
- Need to give up on my danish interface and crack my phone beyond warranty and a chance of bricking it.
- Disable HTC sense and go with WM interface
I know how limited I would be with any other phone, but this road I got myself on is really amazing

I found some Danish support threads, just search Danish Topaz in XDA and you may find something to load over a WWE rom.
Personnaly I think you will be disappointed if you do not take the plunge.
I had a Rhodium before my Topaz and once I go tmy Topaz, I couldn't stand it. It wouldn't do half the **** my Rhodium did. Because I had my Rhodium flashed to custom.
Finally HSPL was released and I flashed it immediately and can't believe I ever liked that other brick of a phone.
Take your time, get comfy with the process first, and read lots on the language packs.
The brick warning is just a disclaimer and it is very difficult to achieve if you follow the steps correctly.
I know these are expensive toys to take a chance on, but they really are only at 50% capacity out of the box. What a waste....

I agree.. The helpfulnes here has been overwhelming, and has given me the bravery to try this out. But I am still very nervous.
Let me sum up what I learned from tonight.
1) When following your instructions I will have a phone which I can modify with custom roms.
2) As long as I am 100 % sure the rom is for Topaz I dont have to worry about messing up and bricking my phone due to doing wrong stuff to the radio-thingie? (yes, I still dont understand what that is)
3) I will be able to get back to factory defaults and warranty by installing the official rom you linked and afterwards install the original spl thingie afterwards?
4) Should I mess up and brick my phone, there is a fair chance of being able to restore it by the help of another device and a micro SD-card? (See I DO try and learn myself.. (Its probably incorrect though ))
5) I need to give up on the danish interface, but I will without too much hassle be able to get a danish keyboard?
6) To be absolutely sure not choosing a wrong ROM, please confirm this one as a possible choice: "Duttys Topaz HG R10 [5.2.23541.5.5.0]"
It is downloading and I am ready to take the leap... Geronimoooo!

You would definitely be on 2.1, just not sure what your build number is.
I don't recall if its in 2.1 but, can you go to your Settings Tab\About Phone\Software Info? The build is listed there.
If you don't have About Phone on your settings tab, you can install TD2 Tools which will also tell you your build#.
As I recall 2.1 was easier to theme, so most 2.1 tweaks should work, regardless of build#.
In 2.5, they constantly changed the manila file names with different builds.
it says on td2 tools that its
2.0.37905.0
so i take it that its 2.1
yeah?
I noticed it was wrong on my ROM as well.
That number is virtually useless, sorry.
You're on the stock ROM with WM6.1, you definitely have manila 2.1.
2.1 has programs tab, 2.5 has program shortcuts on home tab.
k thanks
what version of cht should i download then

I'm not sure CHT supports 2.1. The main tweak is to add program shortcuts to home tab, which is 2.5, it has additional functionality to customize home tab appearance.
Since 2.1 is older and XDA is about "cutting edge" there is not a lot of ongoing support for 2.1
Here's a start
If I were you, you'll be much happier, I would look into flashing a custom ROM with 2.5 and CHT cooked in.

Then here
The first thing and hardest thing you have to do is Hard SPL.
This unlocks your OS so it can be overwritten.
It is only difficult because the developers have added a function that checks your IMEI# against their database and will likely force you to donate.
I was able to get it to work manually, but other's I have tried to help had to donate. It's always good to donate to chefs and developers, but IMO if its required, its a fee not a donation.
Just a quick education;
When you flash anything, ROM, SPL, Splash screen, etc. the base file is an .nbh file.
There are 3 ways to flash an .nbh file.
1. RUU.exe. You find this program for Topaz, unzip it to a folder, place the .nbh file into the same folder, sync to your PC and run the .exe. This is the method I use exclusively and it has always worked for me.
2. Flashing from SD Card, With this method, you place the .nbh file on the root of your FAT32 formatted SD card, put the phone into bootloader mode (when phone is off, hold power and volume up keys until tri-colored screen appears) and it will flash from SD card.
3. Auto Installer. Typically the .nbh will be packaged into an .exe and installed via active sync. You will only see this with stock ROMs and the HSPL autoinstaller.
Again, it doesn't matter what you're flashing, ROM, SPL, etc. the process is the same.
For HSPL, download the enablenewrapi.cab, RUU, 2.51.nbh and 1.83.nbh files and try to flash as I have listed above(in order of preference)
2.51 is the latest and you want to flash this one, I am just not sure if 1.83 is a prerequisite. Most including, myself already had 1.83 flashed when 2.51 was released. So try 2.51 first, if it fails, try 1.83, then 2.51
Make sure to copy and install the enablenewrapi.cab to your phone first!
Worse case scenario, your flash gets stuck at 0% or it stays on tricolored screen and you just reset to get your device back. Most common errors...
If you get progress screen and it says it completes, make sure to go back into bootloader mode and it will show what SPL you have installed. It should list 2.51.Olinex, the suffix is important.
If you have not successfully unlocked your device and attempt to flash a cooked ROM, you will brick your device.
I can't guarantee that it will work, because I haven't been able to get it to work for others (I think its rigged now). You would just need to try the autoinstaller donate the 4gbp (which is well worth it), and open a service ticket if needed as stated in the HSPL thread.
Then you go ROM shopping....

Help needed reverting back to WM6.1

Hi, if anyone could please help me i would be gratefull, i recently purchased a D2 but its already preloaded with WM6.5 rom version 2.53.405.5 (76952)WWE, But i really wanted WM6.1 as, among other things, i wanted to use the handwriting rec.
does anyone know what stock rom to reload? and where i can get it? sorry to ask such a basic question.
thanks in advance,

thanks for that, however it seems to have just bricked the phone
it seemed to work, all the correct messages displayed
but......
now all that happens is it turns on, shows the touch diamond2 screen, then resets
it has the following text in red in the lower left hand corner
r 3 . 43. 25 .19
g 61. 20t. 25. 10U
d 1. 39. 47382
does any one have any ideas?
Try to hard reset.
tried that before i posted
and a soft reset, and another hard reset to be sure,
i searched the forum but couldn't find any reference to that type of error either.
any ideas on how to retrieve it from paperweight mode?
Download stock ROM for your region
Unpack it with WinRar or TotalCMD
Rename RUU_signed.nbh to topaimg.nbh
Copy topaimg.nbh on your SD card
Enter bootloader (hold volume down and turn on phone) and follow instructions
edit:I guess for wm 6.1 you need lower version of SSPL
thanks dude, i used the bootloader to reinstall the latest rom from HTC.
Topaz_S2_HTC_WWE_2.53.405.5_Radio_Signed_Topaz_61.44etc.25.35_4.49.25.91_Ship
my phone is no longer a brick however i am back to square 1 in that i still have wm6.5, and i want 6.1
ive tried to reflash with the older rom fighter7139 suggested
RUU_Topaz_HTC_WWE_1.39.405.3_Radio_Signed_Topaz_61.20t.25.10_3.43.25.19_Ship
but it gives me the same rebooting error.
any ideas why wont the older rom work on my phone? or if theres an alternative to that rom ?
thanks
I've loaded hardspl 1.83 and extracted the file RUU_signed.nbh and renamed it to topaimg.nbhand,
i moved it to the SD card, reflashed the phone with the 6.1 rom,
but i get the same error.
any idea on what rom i should use to update from?
or what stock spl i'd need to run this rom's version of 6.1 ?
a thought
maybe i don't even need 6.1, all i want to do is to fix two things -
1) make the sms messaging work like on the old htc devices ie diamond or tytn ie not use htc messaging
2) add handwriting recognition
- would also be nice to have the taskmanger icon, the battery icon and the original windows start menu back too, but im not dependent on them....
so i guess any rom would do that allows these functions, any help or info on this would be much appriciated

Note: AP version control -> The criterion will pass if the Touch Input for Pocket is equal to Version 2.1 (Build1919.1320), or lower.
mines a higer version, which i assumed originally had to do with it being wm6.5 not 6.1,

does anyone know how to get this update to load, or how to change the AP version control back to a lower version ?????

i don't mind flashing back to whatever, i just really need the handwriting app
The handwriting SIP is likey hidden.
There is a reg edit to unhide, just search SIP Reg Edit and you should find it.
If I recall it was under the WM general tweaks.
thanks for that, i got the letter and block rec working, but still not the transcriber the reg key shows it should be showing, but i think the actual file may not be there,
fixed after changing the reg, and downloading the update, you then need this transcriber cab

Any luck finding a way to get 6.1 working on this phone? I just bought the Pure from AT&T as a replacement for my LG Incite that had 6.1 on it. So far I can't stand 6.5 at all. My main beef is with IE, I really like the one on my Incite vs. this one. And my other problem is with the start menu, I also prefer the drop-down style in 6.1.
Thanks for any replies or help.

Once you unlock your phone, you can flash to anything you want.
6.5 is hands down better than 6.1, there are 6.5.219xx builds that have the drop down start menu.
Thanks Bruce!
For some reason I couldn't find a good Pure forum, so that link helps a lot.
