Is it possible to have folders in the applications part of the touchwiz? I have already filled 8 screens with silly apps and I have difficulties finding what I want. (And I do not want to put stuff in my home screens).
Is this fixed in other roms?
I could not find any way to create a folder in the application launcher, I could of course on the home screen, so that is my best solution to the problem.
But I would like to see one being able to do what you prupose.
I run the JFB firmware.

Thanks. Btw, I understand that the JFB = JF12 version. Have you seen any (substantial) differences between this and JF3?
thanks
Touchwiz 4 and newer allows you to make folders within the apps drawer

Hey all,
one thing i am really missing, is the ability to have an app (maybe spare parts) or whatever, that allows me to hide apps from the app drawer (and only there).
Like when i download a free app, and have another extra app, that functions as license key, i want to have the opportunity to hide it from the app drawer, so that i dont see it anymore....
hope i was able to describe what i mean
=)

One way is to decompile and edit the manifest to not show the launcher icon. Not the best solution though.
What would be REALLY cool is a root app that can change the properties for installed apps.

Exaxtly what i meant...an app, with that you can set every other app to vissible or not!
Actually... there's been a recent message about this somewhere, some launcher dev, perhaps it was even cyanogen refering to his older (launcher2) launcher before ADW came along... might have been somewhere else.
Yes, the problem with a root app, which I looked into developing ages ago actually (to do exactly this, and only this really) still can't remove the required entries from androidmanifest.xml without stuffing up the signature. The app then won't get approved by android at all. This particular xml file is sensitive because it contains permission information. This is where I ran out of ideas for a standalone app.
However, the correct way to do it is via a launcher that reads what it needs to display from a different database, which is entirely feasible and not even difficult really. This would give additional benefits like the easier and more elegant ability to support custom launcher icons, adding custom shortcuts to the launcher, reordering the launcher...
The rate LauncherPro and ADW are going one of them will have it sooner rather than later.
dxtop home actually has the ability to do this...but I love ADW too much to go back
Yea....i dont want to leave my launchers as well,
exactly that is the reason for me, to ask for an extra app that does the job.

As I said, it can't be done in a different app, it must be done in the launcher.
There are separate apps out there that hide things from the launcher but they do completely disable the app whilst they're doing it.
Are you able to extend AWD for that option?

Pure speculation on my part, you'll need to hit up one of the launcher devs...
Hello guys,
ive been browsing the forum for a while now and been reading alot of guides, and i dont seem to understand how people have achieved to use themes where they have text icons for different apps at the bottom of the screen and such, and different slide options to unlocking the screen.
Im also unsure if this is done via root or not.
Thanks in advance
DHD FTW
I'm new to android also but I found this:
lifehacker.com/5627286/battle-of-the-android-home-screen-launchers-adw-vs-launcherpro-vs-helixlauncher
(copy and paste this link because XDA won't let me post links until my account if verified by a moderator)
This was helpful to me and may answer a few questions for you.
Launcher Pro lets you have a sliding dock if thats what youve seen. There is also a paid app that lets you copy custom icons for Launcher Pro your phone (i haven't tried it yet), but i guess all you need are text icons that have a symetrical background and then you will achieve a 'bar' accross the bottom that looks like one solid piece.
Like I said. I'm new to this too but after installing launcher pro and AWD launcher there seems to be a lot of answers to how people are achieving what you're seeing.
Furthermore, to use these launchers you don't have to flash anything. Just install like a regular app. You can then select which one you want to use when the phone boots. Or you can select from a pop up window when you press the 'Home' button.
I'm still trying to find out if I like Launcher Pro or AWD better....
Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed, I'm guessing if I was to install a custom Rom is just back up the paid version.
Thanks once again man

No problem dude, I'm just as new to this as you are...
As far as custom rom's are concerned you can back up the rom if you need to but I think most of the stock roms are are somewhere on this forum anyway if you need to return to stock after flashing a custom one.
I'm still trying to fugure out if I really need a custom rom.
The only thing I think I need is the overclock, which I could do just by flashing a custom kernel..
So far I think the only thing custom roms have that stock doesn't are customised standard apps preinstalled and they also include the overclock in the package. I can remove preinstalled apps with Titanium backup anyway so I'm left wondering what other benefits there are to custom roms.. Maybe someone here can answer this..
Finally.. here's a link to some terminology I found useful
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Terminology
Also here's a link to the icon changer app website for launcher pro
launcherpro.droidicon.com/
Let me know if you go for the custom rom, I'm still thinking about it....
Thinking about the same thing. Probably I will wait until gingerbread gets the custom treatment

Hello,
i am using lately MIUI, and i am impressed basically with 2 features that i wished it would 've been in Android. Is it so difficult to implement these on Android?
1. Seeing the drawer with all apps, being able to create and put apps in folders and knowing which apps are not in folders.
Is it so difficult for this to be implemented in the drawer? And if you have a folder in the drawer just to drag it onto the desktop? So many times i am frustrated because i've created over 50 times folders, and they have been deleted (by mistake or intentionally). But if they are always in the drawer, i would just drag them on the desktop.
2. Dragging icons on the dock.
Again is this something so difficult to implement?

What for? There's lot of apps that do. Free Apps Organizer or its paid version Folder Organizer for 1.

it's a question to your launcher developers. stock does not have that. Other might. No big deal though unless you spend your whole day dragging icons to the dock.
If you think these are essential components of the os then write it and send the changes to google. If they think it's important they will add your patch to the next update. But don't hope lot cause as I know they accepted only a few patches in the last years

I am definitely sure that it might be applied to Android 2.5 or 5.1 or 9.3, that at some point people would have the ability to create folders in the app drawer in order to have their programs a bit more tide up, thus why delaying things?
And about the dragging, why not simplifying the things and use dragging, rather than clicking on it, then waiting for another menu to come up then clicking to go in another menu, until you find hte app you want...
MIUI for the moment rocks, i even tried with Launcher Pro as home app and is super fast!

Hopefuly it won't happen as Google announced all non core system components will be pushed out of system to allow users easily replace them

Dont hold your breath. Default behaviour for drag&drop is element removal from home screen. Of course any home replaacement can do on its own, but never seen any (nor I miss that feature myself)

and having an option to tide up your drawer would mess the system?

Hi all,
Is it possible to make Folders on the home screen to place apps in for organization? I Know HTC Phones allow this, but I've never used a Samsung Android powered device.
Any advice would be great as I would love to organize my games and tools.
Thanks!
https://market.android.com/search?q=app+organizer&so=1&c=apps
those are collection of apps that can do so ... the market is full of this kinda of applications , also , if you use any launcher instead of our stock launcher lets say ADW . got this ability , but you can't put it in folders , but you can place which apps can be showing in the drawer or not to be showing
Thanks much! I will be trying one of these soon! While I'm at it, is there any way of changing the lock screen? I tried Widget Locker but they weren't formatted correctly for a tablet.
there is look screen like the one in Honeycomb , just look in the market for Ripple Lock its nice though , i bought the paid one and its a little bit buggy , but its cool
Trust me, The ONLY app you need to organize your apps into folders is Auto App Organizer.
You can automatically or manually organize all your apps into folders and are also able to create shortcuts to these folders on home screen aswell as change icons of them etc.
Its a [email protected] sweeeeeet app!
SiMi Folders works quite well and is very customisable
Lol, I just realized I'm in the wrong forum. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Thats why when you mentioned the HoneyComb lock screen, I was confused because thats the same screen I already use.
But regardless, all these tips and apps still apply, going to try them.
aww, Simi folder is not supported my the Galaxy Tab 10.1 it says in the market.
LMAO LMAO .. you know if we know that from the beggening , trust me you ain't gonna get SH*T isntead you'll get trolling ...
go go catch your tab10.1 section rofl
It was an honest mistake though, the forum names are really similar. And plus, I found 3rd Party Organization apps that i never knew existed via the market, so I'm very Greatful.
Thanks again all, not at all trying to troll.
no prob , have a visit from time to time you'll see stuff , you can't see it anywhere
UPDATE: Unfortunately I have had to abandon this project, please accept my apologies.
I would like to introduce a little project I'm going to be starting, my first attempt at an App for android, one which will bring added functionality to the stock launcher on rooted devices.
Having tried a lot of different launchers, I actually prefer the stock launcher, for all but one thing which is the way it sorts Apps in the app drawer. The stock launcher sorts apps by name like most other launchers, but it splits them into System Apps and Downloaded Apps, so it can be hard sometimes finding the app you want.
My App is going to provide a way of sorting the Apps how you want, without modifying the stock launcher, so that it can last between updates.
My main aim is to provide a simple interface to pick how you want the Apps sorted, primarily alphabetical, ignoring whether they are system apps or downloaded apps.
You could do this by moving apps around manually but it would take a long time, so the idea is to automate this process.
While I work on the base of the app, I would like feedback on what other ways you would like the apps to be sorted, so that when you open the app, you can pick from different options as to how to sort the apps.
I look forward to reading some of your input.

Alphabetical

good luck. I'd add:
1. Most used
2. Last updated
3. Recently installed
4. Also if it is possible add search bar on the first page
All these options are available in GoLauncher. So if you refer to that you know what I am asking

Great,
But can you even add or mod the default tasker like when we long press home key at the bottom it takes us to task manager where we have to kill all unwanted application one by one, can you add a kill all button to that it wwould be amazing if you can do that.
By the way thanks a ton.

obviously u dun have htc phone..
lg's contacts and phone is ugly. plain and simple.. join feature is ineffective.. stock icons are lame.. lockscreen is LAME and slow and buggy with faceunlock.. if u manually join contacts, u cant edit the name.. and the names can be random and wrong..
themes are jus 4.. and ugly.. weather is ugly.. its slow..
list is too long.. lg made an epic device.. *WAAYYY BETTER THAN ONE X* but ****ed up with the software..
I like the launcher but this is annoying, nobody wants to.continue this? I think it would probably be easier to just mod the launcher itself
