First off, I have an HTC Tattoo. I ran the update from the HTC website which updates the firmare. I assumed wrongly that HTC were finally updating from 1.6 to 2.1. I now have the updated Orange 1.6 installed in my Tattoo.
None of the rooting files or instructions work. I cannot roll back the firmware either and update............ I would really like to get 2.1 installed into my handset but I have tried for almost 1 week now with EVERY method I can find but still keep getting either no space errors or some other annoying text...........
I would appreciate any help with this. Please dont flame me or tell me to go and read another page on these forums about how to root my phone. I can assure you I have been on them all and I have read them all, and I do mean them ALL............... None of them work with this updated ROM image.
Firmware 1.6
Baseband 13.29a.55.13H_3.35.07.35
Kernel 2.6.29-g6561203 ([email protected]#133)
Build 1.67.61.43 CL#97826 release-keys
Software Version 1.67.61.43
To rollback, you have to create a goldcard and install the latest official RUU
follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603286
(is useless repeat the same here..)
Aha! Must be the problem I was having! Thanks for the info.

Where did u get that option? Eather theres some section I cant find, or I dont have such an oportunity....
OK, I managed to get it flashed now to Android 2.1 after much head banging and crying............... for some reason it worked this time. Not sure what I did differently but it now has 2.1 on it. Not the most stable of systems especially when you use the live wallpapers but if u ignore these then it works very well..........
In the end I had to flash to 1.67.405.6 WWE then apply root and the the 2.1 file but at least I have it now...........
Nice! Now, I think this 3d should be closed..

You can't downgrade the bootloader (hboot) version, period. End of story. This is NOT the end of the world though! The 2.1 leaked RUU that you used should have been a rooted developers ROM so you can use that to restore your phone, install the custom recovery, then use whatever ROM you want.

does the bootloader stopper you from using a 1.5 ROM? does it stop you from completely unrooting? i guess what im asking is, can you still flash a stock nandroid and stock recovery, would sprint notice?

If they need/want to reflash, then they will notice. You can just wait 1-? weeks for the official 2.1 Ruu, which likely will use the new bootloader.
Look, the just posted a release signed with Release keys instead of test keys. Once this is put into a proper RUU with Root it MAY fix your issue, give it 24 hours.

They leaked.
@ jlem26
I read this from the sprint community forum:
From Android Central When it rains, it pours. Just got word of a new leak for the HTC Sprint Hero. No way of knowing if this is the final 2.1 version, but this one is signed with release keys so you will lose your root for sure if you're into that sort of thing. Anyone who feels brave and wants to try for themselves you can find it here. Remember, this is not official software from any carrier. Using this is at your own risk, and nobody here at Android Central is suggesting you try it, though we're more than happy to show you where it is. Thanks Beezy420! http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html Haven't tried it myself...But I figured I'd post it..
I downloaded it, but I'm scared to try it.......
The new 2.1 leak is almost certainly the final, so the official Sprint update will prob. be out next week.
WARNING: the new leak is NOT ROOTED, and the old rooting methods will NOT work. (Someone took one for the team and already RUU'ed the new leak, and confirmed he could not root afterwords.)
Presumably someone somewhere is already trying new ways to root this upgrade.
I've attempted root three ways now. NO GO!
Yes, I took one for the TEAM and went ahead and ran the RUU, it's fast clean and works fine so far.
BUT.....it closes the ability to ROOT....you've been warned!
Thanks,
Bubba.
thanks for being brave! Have you had any problems so far.
No problems at all.
Phone runs smooth and fast.
Only issue is that I have NO root now. But I knew the choices going into this option.
Having said that, and being able to officially tell everyone that it in fact breaks the root abilities.....is there anyone attempting to get root with this version or will we just ignore it?
Thanks,
Bubba.
I don't see it getting ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if someone somewhere was already working on trying to figure it out.
Is the 2.1 Droid rootable?

Depends. Do you want a rooted or non-rooted.
If you want rooted do you want stable or experimental?
If you want non-rooted then it's 1.6.
If you want a stable rooted then use CM-5.0.8.
If you want to try an experimental then try CM-6.0.0-RC2.
If you want a list of rooted roms look here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
Can't find the link? Try looking!
thank you very much, but ive found links to 1.6, but none of them work when trying to have them opened and flashed on my g1, i went to the newest rooted rom, but i think its rather slow, and would rather have the non rooted 1.6
Download DREAIMG.NBH from anywhere and wait for the phone to automatically say "an update is available" or you can download cupcake 1.5 then the 1.6 patch.
JUST GOOGLE IT!!!!!!
lol ive googled it! and have found liek 30 links of the 1.6 update, but they dont work!
What do you mean they don't work? Your phone is rooted, right? Then download any software from here (it does not have to be official 1.6 update, I suggest Dwang as a fastest G1 software I've seen) and flash it through recovery (remember to wipe first). It's really simple and I don't know how it might not work.
im saying, like if i unroot, and go back to stock and start from 1.0, and then i find one of the links on the internet that is the 1.6 donut update, while flashing, it will say theres a error and missing like x number of files and not work.
But i see what your saying thank you
i have a rooted htc hero cdma sprint phone.
firmware 1.5
build # 1.56.651.2 cl85027 release keys
software version 1.56.651.2
i rooted this by using this
what i want to do is go to 2.? software without losing root access.
i did not go to step 3 on that page, because all i wanted was to use the tether program.
what is a rom i should use,and how to use it, to still have root access and be able to go to the 2.? software?
thanks to anyone who responds
flash the .5 version of the rom(RUU) and then root again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
thats how i did it with the newest update. after that you can flash nfinites .6 sw version to have the latest stock sw while retaining root.
i hope that that is clear...if you follows the guides on here, everything will go very smoothly
ok
im lookinking for the .5 version of the rom,but i dont know what that is. i did go to the page and can follow the directions when i understand what that is
Now that you're rooted, all you have to do is flash nfinitefx45's Stock de-odexed ROM -- it is the latest official 2.1 release from Sprint, with root access (super-user permissions), wifi tether, and Apps2SD support added. Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703267 Follow all the directions there.
You can ignore the post above -- you don't have to run the 2.1 RUU in order to run a 2.1 ROM. I am running the ROM I listed and I'm still on the 1.5 root.
thanks
thank you i will try that now.
just a what if ?
what if i update to stock 2.1 with no update and then root from there? will that work? or will i be "barred" from doing that by some thing?i was just asking because reading about the rom you showed me there were some things that do not "work" correctly or just didnt work at all.i know that by reading all the coments.
just a what if
thanks
Yes, you can upgrade to the official 2.1 RUU using HTC Sync if you want. There is a way to root that version too but it's located in a different post in the Development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
thanks again
thanks again leaf
all i want is to have the most up to date or most powerful device i can have still with the root access, not to much to ask for seeing how i pay my bill every month.
Hey check it out I'm running 2.1,thanks again.

HTC restart problems
Hi to all,
I bought a new HTC model A6288 G3 + Hero and I pressed the button "Return to factory settings" with both SIM and microSD removed. Window opens to restart Windows, then the indication is "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Phone." I clicked and pops with "align screen" after I used the stylus to align. Hence no longer happen. I can go one way or window. To turn off your Pocket PC must remove the battery.
In the Add / Remove Programs I have left only three programs, but to Explore My Windows Mobile-Based Device Windows folder there(with activesync help).
How can I solve this problem, if anybody knows? Thanks very much.
@dankdank11 -- Glad you got everything figured out!
@cj15pas -- I think you have posted in the wrong forum. This one here is for the Sprint-based Hero that is running Android, not Windows. You should go post your question in the Q&A of the other HTC Hero: G2 Touch forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=508
I'm pretty new to this stuff so i went for the easiest and fastest way to root, the universal android root.
I tried it and it wont root it. Ive been reading and im guessing its because my hero is at the newest update.
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Software number: 2.32.651.2
any solutions? or other legit methods?
pm me or post
anything helps
thanks
That version has been rootable for a long time. There is a method here. Can't link since I'm mobile, but the intro threads should have directions in them; or the Wiki for that matter.
Check them out! They're full of good info.
This solution is reported to work for 2.32.651.2:
One click Root APK for CDMA Hero
Search for super one click. I use it on mine when I want to start fresh. It works on the newest update. But you do need windows sdk installed.
HELP! Im confused..Sprint Hero 2.1update
Ive been looking through these threads for a couple hours now and I cannot seem to find any of them that apply to my phone. I have a different build number and all of that. My phone is running super slow and about to bounce off a wall. I am looking to root but I have no clue what all I need to do with the different ROMS and everything to speed it up. Any ideas everyone?
Sprint Hero
baseband version 2.42.02.10.29
Build number 2.32.651.2 CL282911 release-keys
Software Number 2.32.651.2
Any Ideas would be GREAT!!! Thanks
I am having the same issue. I did get it rooted with SuperOneClickv1.7-shortfuse.zip file. However, I'm not sure where to go from here. This is a lot more complicated than it was to root and upgrade my Moment to Froyo. I'm now working on my husband's HTC Hero CDMA build number is 2.32.651.2, Sprint release Android 2.1-1 update. I want to do a nandroid backup from what I understand (no clue how to do this!) and then flash a 2.2 or even 2.3 custom ROM to the phone after wiping some files? I have this process down on the Moment, but the Hero is completely different and I'm lost.
I have ASTRO file manager installed and under apps after using the SuperOneClick, I do see SuperUser. I was thinking I wanted to update to the CM 6.1 ROM for now, until the newer systems are completely stable and up-to-date... but I have no clue where to go from here as most directions I've found don't apply to this build. Since I'm 6 months pregnant and off of work until after baby gets here, I have most of the day to tinker with it, when not chasing a rowdy 3.5 year old around the house. Just need some guidance.
Attached is the ZIP file for SuperOneClick

You need a custom recovery installed to nand and flash. Rom manager is the easiest way to install recovery. Once you have that, backup, wipe data, cache, and dalvik, install rom zip just like on the moment. Also to get to recovery, hold down home then power.

I'll try that this evening when my husband comes home with his cell. I have a recovery file on the SD that I put there via Windows (recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3). Is this a good one to use? I'll download ROM manager onto the phone this evening and go from there. Or, if updating to CM 6.1 should I just flash that with the ROM manager?

That's an older version. You can flash that way. I prefer to go into recovery to flash. Better luck that way for me. At least you don't have to run the updater to have factory to flash like the moment. You do need to nand restore to a sense rom to update profile and PRL though, and then nand back to CM.
CM has a great guide on their wiki... http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_(CDMA):_Full_Update_Guide
I have a nexus one on android 2.2.1, when 2.2 was release i received the update pretty quickly.
However i have stayed on 2.2.1 ever since
With members posting OTA released of 2.3.4 im like wtf!
I have tried to install the updates manually by: update.zip on root and applying in the recovery screen - this has never worked for me, i get a verification error
Now im posting this in the hope that someone can help me update please!!!
Note: My n1 is not rooted and i would like it to stay like that also im only interested in updating to stock roms.
p.s. i try the *#*#2432546#*#* nearly everyday to check for updates.
p.p.s. im from the UK and am on Vodafone if that makes a difference.
Many Thanks
Vodafone use their own tweaked version of Android, and so you have to wait for Vodafone to tweak the update before you get it...
You can use the passimg method to put a completely stock Google Android on your phone, but will lose some data doing it...
Thanks for the post danger-rat, i didnt know vodafone did that.
Will look into passimg.
Cheers
For anyone else having this problem i have found a great guide on how to go from a vodafone rom to a google stock rom
http://ossadmin.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/goodbye-vodafone-uk-nexus-one-rom/
I haven't tried this yet but will soon and update to whether it works.
The above method works, the only problem i had was the passimg rom gave "Main Version is Order" error.
This was resolved by using the rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059116
I am now on android 2.3.4 google rom, still unrooted
