i have a rooted hero running dc 2.08. this afternoon the screen went completely blank. the phone powers up and i can receive calls so i'm assuming its just a hardware issue.
i called sprint and they are sending me a new phone but i am wondering what i can do to un-root my phone before sending it back since i cant see what im doing.
would i be correct in assuming that sending it back with root would void the warranty?

turn the phone on to where you can recieve calls. plug your phone into the computer and flash the RUU from htc.com. that will unroot it

let me know if it works. you will probably need to click on htc sync on your phone. since you have no screen use the d-pad. wait a couple mins so that you can give the computer time to recognize your phone. after a couple mins use the d-pad and scroll down twice and then press the d-pad. hopefully that'll work. let me know

If u still have the guarantee, then flash back to stock spl/rom, run seus and if it still dont work send it back
seus never worked, i got stuck at the connecting the usb cable @ the tricolor screen because nothing happened when i did.
its supposed to check for update, but it doesnt respond..
Then I think it's very safe to say that your phone is malfunctioning. Going to the tricolor screen can not harm your phone. Also, it should always be possible to revert to the original ROM using SE updater (unless you messed it up real good, which you haven't).
Time to send it back I'm afraid!

I left my phone overnight and everything seems to work again, maybe it seems the phone settings take couple hours to work again?
My G1 screen stopped backlighting and then finally stopped working/detecting its position completely, and today I just got my replacement phone from T-Mobile and now I have to ship back my old one to avoid $100-something in fees. I have my phone rooted with JF 1.5, does anyone know if will they try to use this against me in any way to say its my fault my phone broke and then charge me for the new one?
unless your returning it to ebay thens its a no go i think you can remove teh recovery image back to orig and flash the Rc29 then it should be good.
Any ideas how to go about doing that without having the screen working? It's going back to HTC/TMobile, whichever takes care of broken phones.

oh sorry just leave it then htc has a 2yr warranty i think, dont tell tmo you rooted it thats foolish.
you will need to plug the phone into your computer and have adb working. then just do adb push /dir/to/DREAIMG.nbh /sdcard/DREAIMG.nbh, that will put the DREAIMG.nbh on the sdcard of the phone. after that you can type adb shell reboot bootloader and it will send the phone to the bootloader, after about 2 minutes you can press the power button, wait 30 minutes and reboot the phone with the three finger salute it will be unrooted(in theory)
I'm on a Mac, does adb work with that? I never got around to setting that up. My main concern is having them find my phone is rooted, I didn't tell them it is I just told them the screen is broken.
Well the screen just started working again when I started it back up, but only with the keyboard out. I'm not sure whats wrong with this phone, but now its back to RC29 and TMobile can have fun fixing this stupid thing.
Hey Everyone,
Just seeing if anyone might have a solution to my problem that I'm facing. I had rooted my phone when the root originally came out, and everything seemed to be working fine. I had been texting on my phone when it suddenly froze, I waited to see if it would come back, but it never did so I pulled the battery.
The phone originally booted to the M logo, but froze, after another battery pull the phone now won't turn on at all. As in it's not responding to the power button press at all. It's not being recognized by a computer, and there doesn't seem like much I can do.
Any suggestions out there? If my phone is bricked and can't even turn on, will a Verizon store know this? How could they?
thanks.
If u froze something like a system app that may have bricked it. Theres something u can flash which was a cracked version of an ota update that should fix it but u may not be able to receive official updates if u do that. Other option is to wait for an official sbf file

How can I flash something? There doesn't appear to be a way for me to access my phone. I can't get into restore or the bootloader.
What happens when you plug the phone into your charger(using the stock charger and cable)?
Nothing, no light, no anything
I actually haven't tried it in a situation like that so I can't give instructions :/

Just take the phone into Verizon and tell them it has stopped working. You don't have to go into any detail at all.

I think that might be what I do, I can't imagine they would have a way of knowing it's rooted if the phone won't even turn on, charge, or anything.
Thank you, btw.
Try taking out the battery and plugging it in to the wall without it in it. If it starts to boot, let it. Then replace the batter and plug it into the wall again and let it charge up. Happened to my Droid X before and I was able to get it working by doing this.
Tried this, but couldn't get it to work.
Took it to a Verizon store and they said they would send me a new one tomorrow, and then all I do is send mine in afterwards.
Is there a chance that after I send them my phone they could find out I rooted it? I'm worried they would charge me full price for the phone they sent me if they discover it.

Honestly the Magnuson-Moss act protects you in that VZW has to prove that rooting caused the phone to fail. However in practice you end up having to take them to court which is too costly and time consuming. But to answer your question yes they could pretty easily figure it out.
But to put it differently no one else that I've read about has had a failure like yours. People have bootlooped and such, but no one has just had nothing happen on power-up. It doesn't sound like you did anything other than root, which couldn't possible cause this. Freezing apps and deleting system apps only causes force closes and bootlooping, you had neither.
I use ClockworkMod's RecoveryInstaller, ran the .apk, installed it then opened it. There was a large button labeled "flash recovery" and when I pressed it, the phone turned off and won't turn on.
I plugged the phone into my computer and it continuously plays the "plugged in" sound. If I hold down the volume down and the power button, the "plugged in" sound plays more often and has another sound playing right after it, but the phone won't turn on.
I haven't unlocked my bootloader, but I have rooted the phone.
I believe it is in a boot loop or something, because the "plugged in" sound keeps repeating itself, or something like that.
I have an SD card if that is required in fixing the device.
I can't boot into recovery at all, screen keeps black.

I've been trying that, but I can't access my IMEI to get a KDZ file, and I've tried my IMEI on that thread before, and I didn't get any download. I've gotten an IMEI for my model from another thread, but that thread you sent me needs for my phone to connect to my computer, which it can't.

Right, you already said that, sorry. In that case I'm afraid there's nothing else you can do, that phone is dead.. I do believe other users who had this kind of problem had to rely on the warranty to get a new phone, so you should go back to the store. And from now on, don't use one-click solutions to do this kind of stuff, the process isn't that hard and there is less risk involved when you just follow a step-by-step guide.

I am sending this phone in for a warranty repair. But since I rooted the phone, will they accept it? Keep in mind, I have rooted it with TowelRoot, but I haven't unlocked the bootloader.

Not sure, in theory they wouldn't have to, since trying to install the bootloader caused your problems in the first place. But I've also heard of other people who did the same kind of thing and could still use the warranty. I just wouldn't tell them how it got bricked, play dumb and say the phone suddenly wouldn't boot up any more Best of luck, mate!

The main issue I told them, was that it wouldn't boot or turn on. Somehow, battery issues played into it, but I told them that the MAIN issue was that it wouldn't turn on. I don't think they can turn it on if I can't. They have the money and power to try, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to spend a load of time trying to figure it out.

If u connect ur phone via usb by pressing vol down button..
U'll enter into download mode..
It clearly says ROOTED.........
But instead u have to try to update phone using B2CAppSetup.exe (official software update tool)

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone is able to help me out with my HTC one M7. My phone has been out of commission since Monday night and I'm all out of options on what to do, I've even tried doing a factory reset as a last resort but that didn't seem to work as it looked like the process just stalled.
Here's a bit of background of what happened: Monday night I charged my phone through the wall outlet and went to have dinner, I came back to check on the phone and it was off. I thought that was odd so when I tried turning it back on I would only ever be able to get to the white HTC logo screen. I'm able to get into fastboot and recovery but after googling solutions and trying the options people have mentioned, it still isn't working. I'm not very tech oriented so I wouldn't know how to flash ROMs or anything like that...soooo, I'm hoping someone is able to explain steps in I'm able to understandr. I don't even know flashing ROMs is possible at this point since whenever I plug it into my PC, the drivers aren't recognized by Windows and says 'failed to install drivers'.
Any help is very much appreciated!! (I signed up to the forum in order to write this and seek help lol)
I haven't done ANY customization to the phone everything is all stock from my service provider so I'm really baffled at how this sudden fail could have happened. There was no OTA update either.

Yes, I did. It flashed to the screen with 2 green arrows in a circle and 1 downward green arrow with a progress bar at the bottom but nothing happens during this period. I left the phone like that for about 30 mins just to see if anything would happen and nothing did.
