Now each rom has its own ADW launcher set up. I was wondering if you were able to customize it or change it, because some roms I like have a different launcher set up.
You can download it from the Market, when you set home it will ask you which to use, and you can set one was default, but my understanding is that both remain as running processes. So my advice is to remove your currect launcher from system/app and push adw there (you don't need to rename it or anything).

I do this if no ADWLauncher:
rm other launcher, download ADW from market, and push it from /data to /system/app so i can update from market, but it's still a system app.
Thank you guys so much , this changes everything. I would find a great rom but a shi**y launcher. lol

Hi,
I don't like the look and feel of ADWLauncher so I want to revert back to the stock launcher. It came by default with CM 5.0.8.
Also, how can I customize the trackball colours on different notifications? I can't find a way to do so.

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > ADW Launcher > Clear Defaults
The next time you hit the home key it should give you a choice. Pick the standard home and select "always use this".
Trackball colors can be changed with "Trackball notifications" from the market.

That's the reason I made the thread. There is no "Uninstall" option, only "Clear Data" in it's place, and the Launch by Default option says "No defaults set." and the "Clear defaults" button is greyed out.
What can I do to get rid of this?
I think you have to push the stock launcher. you can't uninstall it because that's the standard launcher. you can find the launcher in /system/app !! DON'T DELETE IT
You can only remove ADWLauncher with Adb.
Adb remount
Adb shell rm /system/app/ADWLauncher.apk
However the default launcher is not on Cyan ROM. So you need to get it from somewhere and adb push it before removing the ADW

Easiest way is to find a stock rom zip file, unzip it, and look in system > app
Should be a launcher.apk in there. Install it like any other apk.
here's launcher2 i pulled from cm5071 works flawless
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4e1hyt2zmog/Launcher2.apk
i put in 508 and resigned it runs like butter for me
I tried installing it, but the installation fails. Then I tried pushing it via adb, but it says "failed to copy 'Launcher2.apk' to '/system/app/Launcher2.apk': Read-only file system"

Thanks for that. I'll try it out now.
Also, how do I change the trackball notification light? It flashes green by default on a new SMS and I would like to change that.

So there's no way to do it in the ROM itself? No settings?

Doesn't work. Still says it's a read-only file system.
I had problems with this too. When i pushed launcher2 to my n1 on cm 5.0.8 i kept getting fcs
To fix it i pull spareparts.apk and launcher2.apk from cm 5.0.7.1
And pushed it to /system/app
After that no more fcs

adb remount.
Have you tried LauncherPro?
I didn't like the ADW either but the LauncherPro is million miles better than stock and way smoother.. and it is more identical to stock than ADW as well.
What i did was i just installed it from the market and then i just deleted
ASW from the system via adb.
Always type "adb Remount" before doing anything except doing shell commands.
This is one of the reasons I'm not running a custom ROM, just 2.2, I HATE ADWLauncher, and all these ROMs use it as default, if they could at least keep the stock launcher in there and give us a choice easily, would be nice.
Is there any way to get the default Froyo launcher on CM6 instead of the ADW Launcher that Cyanogen has included (or LauncherPro, or any other alternative)? I found a Launcher2.apk that I think is used on the Droid Froyo build, but it just Force Closes when I run it on my G1.
Any ideas?
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2739-how-to-remove-adw-and-use-21-launcher/
i guess another option would be to flash super f and pull (via adb) the launcher then push it into Cy6
EDIT: same method as above but that is for the 2.1 launcher
Here is the apk.
Here it is. I had the same idea and pulled it from super F.
Wow, thanks guys, pushing that Launcher2.apk file worked perfectly!
I do have a quick follow-up question - how can I lock the new launcher in memory? (Can't find an option in Spare Parts). Thanks again!
Can you tell me how you did it.
I pushed it to the right place without removing adw laucher as i want to keep it.
This should give me the choice when i press home but nothing comes up?
Hello, i need to change my default launcher, in my rom its comes with Launcher Pro by default, and i want to integrate with Go Launcher instead, but, to be used to default when i install the by Open Recovery, and i removed the Launcher Pro. Any file i need to change to make the Go Launcher the default launcher ?
Thanks
I'm not sure I understand what you did. But if you installed GO Launcher and then removed Launcher Pro, as soon as you reboot GO Launcher will be the home app.
Or, if you have both installed, you could go into Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All->LauncherPro and then hit "Clear defaults" in the "Launch by default" section. Reboot and when phone comes up it will ask you to select which launcher to use (you can mark the checkbox to make it default).
no, i want to make these change directly from the zipped rom. Not when i install this ROM.

Just remove launcherpro.apk ( or whatever it is called ) from /system/app and replace it with the go launcher.apk
Thanks. I will try this.
You know how i can set too the configurations of apps and system by default too. For example, set by default to accept install of unknow sources, Jit disabled, etc. ?

Try removing it through Applications > All. If not, remove it from system/app using Root Explorer.
If I already have ADW Launcher EX, and there's something in the "standard" ADW APK that's clobbering one of my EX settings (the high-density icon hack), can I simply remove the standard ADW APK from the CM7 ZIP to install newer nightlies?
Rodney
yes, that is what I do. I'm no programer or anything, but all I do is right click and open the zip with out uncompressing it. just go to system/app. now you can remove the stock ADW and add your new launcher. I'm not sure if this is the right way, but it has work find for me in the past.
Okay so I rooted and installed apex launcher, and have google services with hangouts/gmail working. When I try to make a gmail widget on my screen it brings me to the settings page, and then the widget is gone.
I tried making apex launcher a system app by putting it's apk file in the /system/app folder that also did not work.
Is there a way to get widgets working?
Can't speak for apex but have no trouble with widgets using either now Launcher or Nova on my wifes, rooted with play services and store (and never registered with Amazon). Initially with now Launcher had to wait for play services update before it worked. Can't remember if I did anything else to get it working but I recall that I originally had the same problem.
I used Nova and made it a system app, and widgets work. I used this app /system/app mover from F-Droid: http://click.xda-developers.com/api...f-droid.org/repository/brows...systemappmover That I found from another thread on here.
I was successful on creating widgets for those apps that I'd made system apps. There are apps at google market which can do so.
I tried both Nova and Apex and converting to system app didn't do it. (So maybe build version matters. I'm running November 12.) Anyway, you may need to install Apex in /system/priv-app (recommended by @martinml and others). First make sure perms on the apk in /system/app are rw- r-- r-- (chmod 644) and reboot. If still no widgets, move to priv-app (confirm perms, reboot).
(Or, as mentioned here and by @sd_shadow in several posts, widgets work with Google Now without conversion.)
Widgets working in Google Now Launcher if you are willing to switch.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I never did get widgets working on the stock rom but i never tried google launcher.. I'm on CM12.1 and never going back. It just works great and widgets work too.

/system/app mover from the Play Store worked perfectly, moving Nova launcher as a system app (running rooted 5.1.1)
Now I have widgets! Thanks!
thank you that did the trick... i was just going to give up and not worry about widgets. had the problem with trying to put widgets and all it did was take me to the settings menu.

So do you just install Nova from the play store then convert it to a system app while leaving Fire OS alone to get widgets to work ? I tried Super tool which deletes Fire OS and installs Nova as a system app automatically, but widgets do not work that way.

I did the same thing and was able to move Nova over to system apps with the /system/app mover without any trouble even with the Fire launcher having been deleted.
Finally! A solution that works!

Thank you so much for this solution...I've been trying to get around this issue on my rooted Kindle Fire for weeks now. Many thanks!
Please help!
I tried the /system/app mover from F-Droid as mentioned above by SilverPony2001 in an attempt to change my Apex Launcher from user/app to system/app. I rebooted and now my tablet screen only comes on and off for a few seconds as if I was pressing the lock button over and over. I'm not sure what to do at this point?
