Updating PRL and Profile on AOSP - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I have my girlfriends phone on darchdroid and was wondering if their is a way to update prl and profile

nope, no way. you have to flash something like Fresh 2.1 and do it using that rom.
So nandroid backup what you have right now > wipe/flash Fresh2.1 > update profile/prl > wipe > nandroid restore your darchdroid backup.
btw, just sayin, but if u read thru just part of the DD2.7 thread you would've seen plenty of people asking the same question - getting the same response. Unfortunately with his AOSP roms its not an option.

I belive you may still be able to update OTA but no rollbacks using ##PRL#

flashing new rom to cdma hero I NEED HELP

im using the cdma hero with fresh 2.4 rom on it i wanted to move to the new cm6.0.
and i assume the nightly rom on the cm site is for my phone...right? buttttt
i deleted the files for what i believe is my nandroid back up and apparently never put them on my computer....is there a way to get around this? or am i screwed?? do i have to unroot? then root, flash?
is there a 1 click root?
AND idk how to get out of root..so a link to a guide or maybe a quick way to do it would be nice...thank you for all the help. if you need more info in order to assist ill be glad to tell you.
I'm confused. Did you already flash CM6 or do you want to? If you haven't why don't you just do another nandroid backup. If you already flashed CM 6 and are trying to get back to Fresh, then you are SOL.
Yes, there is a 1-click root, but I forgot where I saw it at.
Thread moved in Hero CDMA Q&A.
Well I'm on fresh right now. I want to move to cm 6. Do I always have to do a nandroid restore when flashing a new Rom? I assumed you did.
But I cannot do a nandroid restore bc it tell me "cannot open directory no files found"

No these are the steps to move to cm6
1. Nandroid backup (when people say nandroid first they mean a backup).
1.5 update your prl, radio, profile if they are out of date (optional)
2. wipe dalvik and factory wipe phone.
3. flash new rom.
4. enjoy.
Here are the CM6 nightlies for the CDMA Hero. If you perform a nandroid backup you are copying your system in the exact state that it is so that if something happens you can revert back to it. When you perform a nandroid restore you are reverting back to the state at which you ran the nandroid backup. Most people recommend doing a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom. You do not do a nandroid restore when flashing a new rom. Just make sure you do a full wipe and wipe dalvik before flashing a new rom.
Ooh okay wow that's gonna help! can i update the prl and all that by just going system updates? and updating there?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
thank you!
am i better off downloading the cm 6 rc1 froyo build? thats more stable then the nightlies? ccan i use rom manager to update the nightly?

Yes but only in Sense Roms CM6 and AOSP roms dont have this functionality (keep your last fresh nandroid for this purpose). Before you move to CM6 update all of that and then flash CM6. Then anytime you need to update any of that stuff in the future (prl, pri, profile) you can do a nadroid and then go back to your Fresh backup and restore then update it and then restore back to cm6.
okay! thank you very much!
and the nightlies? i dont mind using experimental roms as long as i can use like rom manager to just update it i dont wanna flash a new rom every day..

Comprehensive Backup and Subsequent Restore after a Reflash

I currently have Cognition beta 6 installed and want to reflash or update to beta 9. How can I backup my apps, settings and media? It’s my understanding that TiB is for only apps and will not do non-app-phone-settings (possibly not app settings ether?)? Correct me if I’m wrong on that. Also, should I use Nandroid?

From the CogWiki:
Can I do an Nandroid Backup when the install is done?
If you are running CogYo beta 6 or later OR Cognition for Eclair, yes, as we can once again get back into Clockwork Recovery.
If you are running beta 5.5 or earlier, no, you can't currently do a clockwork nandroid backup as its not compatible with 2.2's new recovery (3e) without performing the "kernel swap" trick. You can update to a newer version of CogYo or revert to Eclair to re-institute this functionality.

I am at CogB6 so this applies but I’m not entirely sure what it means.
In summary what can I do to get a comprehensive backup and subsequent restore after a reflash?
Thanks,
JOe K.
Several different things to address first your main question. Yes you need titanium backup. Its a great app and a lifesaver. As for moving phone settings thats when things get tricky. I tried restoring system apps and had horrible luck. It is going to mess things up bc the settings won't be the same and will cause funky bugs. Save your self some time and don't try to move your system settings from version to version.
2nd question clockwork basically makes a complete copy of your phone with all settings apps texts contacts etc. but it is only useful if you screw something up and need to restore your phone to a previous version

[Q] Not receiving sms using CM6 and AOSP

I, for some reason, wasn't receiving any text messages. I put stock back on and about 15 or so downloaded shortly after first boot.
What may have prevented sms from being received on the custom roms?
It seems to be an issue for some people as I have experienced it as well.
Froyo Powered HTC Hero
Just wanted to chime in since I was searching google for this issue. I have an evo and I've had this issue as well for the past two days on CM6 and a sense based rom so if you have sprint this may be an issue with them rather than the rom. I have yet to find an answer myself.
I did find the issue and it is a sms/mms database issue and can be resolved by deleting a file (which is immediately recreated and fixed). I found the answer (and regrettably didn't keep the link) in the CM 6.1 discussion thread.
Thanks for the replies.
Can you point me to that thread I'm having the same problem... Not seeing it.
Make sure your prl is current.

Backup your current ROM, wipe everything, and flash a Sense ROM. Reboot and update PRL and Profile. Then wipe everything in recovery and restore your custom ROM.

What is a "prl"? Sorry I am a nuub. I have CM6 flashed to my hero and have had it for around 6 or 7 months but all of the sudden I am not receiving SMS. I had read that if you were getting the "low space" msg that could be a cause but I cleared the space and I am still not receiving them. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to flash back to a sense based rom, then go to something like
settings > about phone > software version > system update
It should be clear from where you are what you are doing at that point, update your profile and prl from there and then go back to cm6.
Where can I get a sense based rom. I don't believe that I kept a copy before.

before everyone jumps on you for posting in the wrong section...you did

This doesn't belong in the Development section. It is well known that once you root and install ROM's you will not be able to update over OTA. If you want flash back to stock and use Kies mini to get the update...By the way it's only JH6 which is still Eclair 2.1
I wouldn't know if there are any software update's since i can't update over the air. and i dont wanna go back to stock 2.1 cuz i will loose all of my progress in all of my games that are on my phone.

seriously. read.
2.2 isnt officially out on ATT yet.
if you are running 2.2, then obviously you arent going to get ANY updates from ATT since they are not pushing 2.2 out.
common sense will tell you that if ATT is not providing 2.2 to us, then obviously there wont be any updates since their only update is JH7 which is ECLAIR 2.1-update1
there are about 5.2 million threads in the q/a and general sections that discuss this. please do some reading.
You won't lose your progress in your games if you back up with Titanium Backup, but there is no reason to go back to stock because there are no updates that have anything newer than your Froyo ROM.
as you can see i am a huge noob at this stuff. but to reply to sixstringsg about the titanium backup...how would i use that? cuz it's a app. so if i go back to stock 2.1 that will be deleted, meaning i will have to re-install it and i will still loose my progress.
Install it, and back up all user apps. Then either copy that over to your computer, or your external SD card if you have one, then when you flash back to stock, Root, install Titanium and reinstall through it.

Titanium backup and restore does exactly what it says it does. it will backup and restore apps+data
once on a new rom, you would install titanium backup again and click on RESTORE and it will restore your apps
the apps are saved on your internal SDcard which does not get wiped by merely flashing new rom
Please do some research before posting a new thread, let alone in the wrong section. If you are running 2.2 then you have flashed a rom and know how to search for your answers. It is all there to be read.

[Q] sh1t -_- need a way to system update

i downloaded and have been running asops 2.2 rom but i just changed my phone number with sprint and I cant figure out how to update the msid. obviously sprint cant help me since im not using stock rom. anyone know where to look or an app i can download, because under settings: about phone: phone status: shows my old phone number, and i cant make calls or send msgs because of it.
they kept giving me ## codes but they wont work it just tries to dial the number.
Sorry woulda responded sooner, been busy. You need to flash a sense rom to use dialer codes our have sprint modify the phone or account info tied to it.
ugh... ok can you recommend a quick and simple rom so i can do that real quick
hate flashing it takes forever without a highspeed usb. anyways, downloading a sense rom now. thanks
arrg! ok i downloaded and flashed over to herocs 2.2 sense rom, tried doing the ## codes and nothing happens.
anyone??? im kinda screwed here.. cant use my phone until i get the prl updated
If all you need to do is update prl, and you have a sense rom flashed, you can do that from phone settings. I believe it is under "about phone".

Just use LiquidSense to update it.
what is liquidsense?
this is the rom i flashed to for temporary purposes
It is a 2.1 Sense ROM that can be found in the Development section.
well i guess no need to worry about this anymore, the charging dock on my phone is now broken or something because nothing will charge my phone.
Try a different battery. Or a different usb cable.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
ok i was in panic mode earlier being without my phone and all...
got liquidsense, updated all info. all good there. however when i flashed back to aosp rom its suddenly really glitchy, i cant get passed the "touch the android" set up screen!
attempting to reflash and see if that helps any...
nope....man this is a nightmare. btw gave thanks to everyone who replied in this post.
well... i flashed back to LS and even that one glitches out at the set up menu. so im still nowhere with my phone.
**UPDATE**
i found a backup copy of aosp rom that i originally downloaded in another folder on my sd. everything is working just fine now couldn't have done this without your help (all of you)

Glad you got it up and running.
First Just for your future reference so your not crappin all over yourself.lol (Been there) If you haven't already make a nadroid of the LS Rom or sense Rom that you used.
Second,I believe alot of the people around here that flash between sense and CM and AOSP do a factory rest or wipe from fastboot(look in this guide for instructions on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063843 by forum memeber il Duce )the reason being is that (from what I've read) is that sense roms leave bits and pieces of files behind that can corrupt a flash,or make you phone wonky after it boots up.
P.S. If you ever have to RUU or unroot when you re-root makea nandroid of that after you root and keep it some where safe so you can go back to it.
Yes, wipe data, cache, and dalvik every time you change roms. Especially between sense and aosp. The only exception us when flashing an update to the rom you're currently running. Even then, it may require a cache and dalvik wipe. Wipes are not necessary when restoring a nand. Also, keeping a sense nand is a good idea, as out makes it quicker when prl updates are needed.
