How much data / month used on ATT? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering how many gigs a month of data you used with ATT. Information claims their unlimited data package is unlimited for grandfathered users. Can probably expect that to go away as 3G networks continue to get overloaded.

AT&T "unlimited data" samsung impression sim card + android?

My friend had a samsung impression (not an android) with an unlimited data plan. She's looking into getting a captivate off craigslist as her phone went spazz... Will her data plan be compatible or will at&t force her to upgrade to another kind of data plan?
Thanks!

Because thats not a smartphone I am assuming she has the feature phone data plan. So yes she will have to go to either the $15 for 200mb or $25 for 2gb data plans

Depends what type of data plan it is because I have the unlimited data plan that included all options for a smart phone on my wifes line because she was getting one in the very near future and didn't have to make any changes although they will try and get you to drop it, walk into a Best Buy store if you have one near and let them check it out for you- I have used them for my last few upgrades and have had no issues- They ironed out the issue when ATT tried to convince me my unlimited data plan had to go
I have heard from different sources that ATT will force you on the data plan they think you should have
Your friend already has the unlimited data plan so under the grandfather rule she will continue to have it unless she decides to cancel it for another data plan. But once you cancel it you can never get it back.

It needs to be the smartphone data plan to be grandfathered.

[Q] Will my bill go up switching to Note?

I'm presently on a 3g (Blackberry) phone with an AT&T unlimited data plan and presently my bill breaks down as folows:
450 min - $40
1500 Txt msgs - $15
Unlimited data - $30
Total - ~$85
Question: Essentially keeping all my fetures unchanged, will my bill go up if I switch to this unlocked GT-N7000 Note?
Thanks
If it relates to the AT&T note, you are in the wrong forum. It has its own forum.
how will your bill go up if you stay on an unlimited data plan?
in my Country there is no unlimited data plan yet. But, blackberry services in more expensive compared to Normal data plan.

Figuring that they charge for everything, I just wanted to make sure that AT&T doesn't charge more for HSPA+ over 3G
Nope... You are all set. Just make sure they DO NOT change your data plan to a tiered one if you go in and talk to them (I just did it without telling ATT anything).
There is a good post on how to set it up on XDA for use on AT&T with the APN and such if you buy one!
You guys sure pay a lot for your plans in the states. I thought that the UK was bad. I currently pay £32 for 1100 mins, unlimited texts, and 500MB data. Plus the phone was free on the contract. These prices are much higher than they were a few years ago, too.

[Q] Best deal Prepaid 3G plan

Hi guys,
i learned that the Prepaid Straight talk At&t sim 3G is limited from streaming videos.
is there a good alternative prepaid U.S. Carrier that offers a good deal of data plan?
Though the regular prepaid At&t 3G ($25 for 1 Gb) is good however I would like to know other alternatives prepaid carrier that is compatible with international galaxy note.
I'm on the $50/month unlimited everything GoPhone plan on AT&T, unlimited (uncapped, full-speed HSPA+) data (!!!!), unlimited texting (international texting, too), unlimited minutes, etc. It's more expensive than what you're looking at but the value still beats any other carrier in the US, especially because the service is so good
is the GoPhone 3G data compatible with the Galaxy note N7000 (international version)?

I looked up the Webpage of Gophone phone plans. and under the column of $ 50 unlimited plan it says it is unlimited however I can not understand the footnote below.
"Smartphone users must purchase a data package to use data services on eligible plans. Pay–per–use data is not available with Smartphones."
Does that mean that the prepaid $ 50 unlimited plan has another separate internet data price?

the international note's imei is not in att's u.s. database as a smartphone, it just shows up as "samsung phone" when they hook it up. therefor, you can get the "dumphone" unlimited data plan on the int'l note without paying the extra $30 smartphone fee. i've been using it for three months, it's brilliant.
i created a walkthrough thread on how to set it up awhile back. check that if you are interested in going this route.
Straight talk is the best option. $45 a month. And some months I have went over 4.5gb with no problems. With a consistent speed of 5.3+ mbps at any given time. And that includes streaming video.

Thanks Cwininger,
1. does the dumphone unlimited plan include a 3G video streaming?
2. what is the cap data limit of your plan?

Free wifi tethering now free from verizon

Sorry if this is old news(I didnt see a thread about it), but finally the govt does a little something right. And its kinda nice to see greedy Verizon get slapped in the face. :/
hxxp://gizmodo.com/5930610/verizon-officially-cant-force-you-to-pay-20-for-tethering-anymore?tag=verizon
sorry im a new user cant post links
Unless I missed something it doesn't necessarily mean that tethering will be free. What the govt. did was slap them on the wrist for blocking tethering apps in the app store, forcing customers to use their paid app. I could be wrong, though. Anyhow I've heard that a number of people were already tethering anyhow. Just don't go overboard on the data usage even if you have an unlimited plan.

this.
It wasn't just for blocking users from using third party programs, it was for charging LTE subscribers to tether, period (especially users on limited tiered pricing). That is why the share everything plans all include free hotspot now.
Now I'm tempted to get a share everything plan. Can anyone recommend any apps to wifi tether on the market?

Would you even need a 3rd party app on a shared plan if hotspot is included? Wouldn't that use the built-in app?
If you are on share everything, then you can just use the built-in hotspot.
Here is an interesting article regarding FCC's ruling:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...eans-to-you-faq/?part=rss&subj=news&tag=title
People definitely need to read that CNET article. Anyone on an older unlimited plan still has to pay to tether. It's only existing customers with a fixed amount of data per month who can tether for free.
This ruling makes no sense at all. Why would it allow wifi tether on tiered plans but not unlimited?
im goingto guess because the deal was for the 4g range not the 3g range.... unliited plans werent for 4g only 3g.

Not entirely true... there was a period of a few months, I believe, where you could get 4G and still be unlimited. I'm pretty sure I fall in that bucket

Me too! I got my Bionic for free, since it was 100 bucks with a 2 year contract minus some discount I got for using more than 1 GB of data a month. Still unlimited data, no unlimited talk. Still 91 dollars a month for basic service.

How did you get a bionic early? They didn't release it until after they stopped offering the unlimited plan. I signed up the last weekend unlimited was available and the only 4g phones that were out were the Tbolt, Revolution, and Charge.

I got my bionic in December, then called in February and got switched to unlimited data. They had a loophole for a while where unlimited hotspot was listed in the features section of the website, but it failed if you tried to add it to your plan. You just had to call and many reps would tell you you needed to be on unlimited data to get that, so you just asked then to switch you to unlimited data. The unlimited data was even 29.99 instead of 30 for 2 or 4GB. Plus, if you had any kind of group service discount it applied to the unlimited data but not the tiered plan.

It actually makes COMPLETE sense (for Verizon's sake) - since you will run through your allotted 2GB or whatever plan you have. If you have unlimited, then you can just power your home WiFi or whatever you want, which is not what you're paying for when you have unlimited data for your cell phone.
Anyway, this is XDA, so this shouldn't really matter to anyone here...turn that 1 to a 0 with an SQL editor and enjoy your free tethering.
I have a stock charge and am using foxfi free tethering on unlimited plan. I will have a bionic in 3 days

Seconded. I bought mine release day with an upgrade and the only question I asked the sales rep was that I make sure I stay on unlimited data, which I have. In theory, the ruling should support free tethering on all 4G service, including unlimited.

New prepaid ATT go phone plans

ATT go phone just started their new prepaid plans which are compatible with our nexus 4.
New plan is unlimited talk, text, and 2gb of data for $60 a month. Plus additional 1gb of data is $10 per gb.
I know this is a little more expensive, but for people like me that live in and "E" data area for t-mobile, I now finally have hspa wherever I go with no spotty coverage.
There was rumor that you can get a postpaid att account with unlimited everything with 5gb of data. The clerks at the store said that since it is byod, there wouldn't be a contract break out fee, which I find hard to believe.
Anyone ever do that?
Would you mind posting your APN settings? I've had the gophone plan for a month and started getting horribly low speeds, changed the APN to get better speeds and lost mms abilities.
Also, I had the older gophone plan and on the 22nd it switched automatically to the new, cheaper, and better, plan.

Cyanogen has them pre-programmed in their ROM.
You don't want the Cingular one. That's the old one with slow speeds.
You want the one with "phone".

These settings work great on my nexus 4 and got them from a gs4 on display at an att store. In addition, it matches the htc one on display at the store.

Tried those above. Still can't send or receive mms.

Originally had my Nexus 4 on T-Mobile. After a week or so of 2g data I made the switch to AT&T's go phone plan. I'm on the 60$ talk, text, 2gig deal. I couldn't be happier. I just need to get used to only downloading file at home on WiFi.
