it may be a matter of just changing the res in the txt file thats in the zip. Or you might actually have to resize each image one by one. Sorry never done it.
here you go, i resized each image to fit in our screens and edited the txt file. Made an androidupdate.tar out of it. Enjoy
you are awesome thank you i will be updating now
update: works great thank you again
downloading and installing now, will report back when I'm done.
Looks and works great!!!

What are you using to resize? 75% data removed and the archive is still almost as large as the original one.
If you haven't allready, install VirtualBox and a Virtual Ubuntu machine.
Then do this to resize a boot animation (this example is for this one):
mkdir temp
cd temp
unzip ../bootanimation.zip
<modify desc.txt>
cd android
mogrify -resize 240x240 -type palette -quality 100 *
cd ..
cd loop
mogrify -resize 240x240 -type palette -quality 100 *
cd ..
zip -r -0 bootanimation.zip *
And the end result? Se the attached file.
I've tried a couple of windows tools but it was much more complicated and the end results were worse.
Here's another cool thing to do with mogrify.
Resize HVGA (640x480) wallpapers into QVGA ones (480x320)
mogrify -resize 480x360 -crop 480x320+0+20 *

CHANGELOG
v1.1 - Added "Ultra" compression switch. Added a few more commands.
v1.2 -Now includes batch file that signs the theme also. So if you need to add anything else to the theme, like an xml file, add it to themenew.zip BEFORE you run the batch file. I also included a batch file that change the Ticker, Date and Clock font colors to white, then signs it. Of course, you can make it change it to any color, you just need to edit the batch.
v1.3 - Now compatible with CM 4.1.5+ themes.
http://www.mediafire.com/?gmjbnzted5m
Then follow these steps...
Download and extract "themeporter.zip" to C:\themeporter(IMPORTANT that it's extracted there).
1) Copy old theme to c:\themeporter and rename it to "themeold.zip".
2) Copy new theme template to c:\themeporter and rename it to "themenew.zip".
3) Run Port.bat
note: If you want to see for yourself that this works, don't copy and paste "themenew.zip" into the themeporter directory. This batch will automatically create one if there isn't one there. You will then be able to see exactly which files are being ported over.
BIG NOTE: This only ports over.png's. You will still have to manually copy over and xml's, jar's or whatever over to "themenew.zip".
WOW
Man if this works.... WOW!!
The other issue is any modified xml's for color changes...

Yea, this will only be used just for png's.
Is this geared toward theme creators or users? If creators you could modify it so that if they store only modified files in a tiered folder structure it could just dump them into the new template.
If end users then you will be limited on your current track since you have to unpack/repack with entire files instead of it being selective.
Take a look into the bash scripts available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530081
Port the bash > batch, and you'll have a very nice theme porting experience in the windows environment.
I've been using it for the past month, and it's a champ.
cant wait to see this finished. with 6 themes to update this will be helpful!!!

ThemePorter v1.0 is up. Check it out!
Looks good. So now all that is needed is the manual updates for HTC Music, XML edits and colorchanger.
Nice timesaver!
Thanks

well i did a test that i was thinking about last night. Is it possible to port a theme over to a new CM before the new rom finishes flashing and booting up? the answer............ YES!!! i started the download for the rom and theme template at the same time and with this and colorChange.jar by Oshaka i was able to port my theme before my phone had fully booted up the rom. Also it only took 2 minutes to download the rom so that didn't affect timing too much. Great job ultra spikey, this is amazing

Yup had it in the right place and everything .. it zipped everything up into "themenew.zip" but just hit that error when trying to flash it
EDIT: just tried it again ... didnt get the error!! lol ... i had to resign the update.zip (duh) ... rebooting now
Just FYI, for some reason (on my Linux box), when rezipping the files, it does not keep the same letter case.
Phone.apk becomes
phone.apk
This caused some problems...but all I had to do was go in an manually rename. Other than that - awesome work!
EDIT: Actually, just realized that the battery progress icon does not work at all. When I manually change the files - it is fine. But when I run your tool - it is not. My guess is the case-sensitive thing.

Good catch eriss. I just noticed that as well and came in here to post that I am seeing the same issue.
hmm I didnt realize it was case sensitive. It's not on any of my themes at least. I will fix and to match later today.
I fixed the case-sensitive issue in 1.2.

If you are looking for increased ease you might think about rolling into/incorporating the color changer jar. : )
I have my updating/porting down to about 3 commands:
Code:
490 wget http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/experimental/template-cm-3.9.6-signed.zip
491 unzip template-cm-3.9.6-signed.zip -d ./theme.new/
492 ./update.theme theme.aero/ theme.new/
493 ./create.new theme.new/
I've incorporated the colorChanger.jar into my own script, and it has dramatically reduced the time/effort in making updates/ports...
hello to all of you....
How to make the dialer (contacts.apk) fit for 240x320 120 dpi
i know that : firstly if the dialer is built from source it can be adjusted to properly fit 320x240, if not then run a 320x480 kernel which will fit dialer and htc_ime properly.
But how....??
Anyone can help me...?
thanks and kind regards...Alex
This dialer fits pretty well for 2.1 at 240x320 120

no problem..anyway thanks for this try
are you going to be building from source? If so it's just a matter of editing the values in /res/layout-finger/dialpad.xml
This is the same for both eclair and donut builds.
then theme it with whatever png's you like
pretty easy to test after making it just ./adb remount
./adb push contacts.apk /system/app/contacts.apk
Or feel free to take the dialer from my last build, I'm fairly sure that was sized properly for qvga.
Once you understand how the layout files work it's easy to adjust any aosp app to whatever sizes you like.
Something handy, assuming you have your build environment all setup,
mkdir ./vogue
cd vogue
repo init -u git://androidhtc.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/androidhtc/manifest.git -b android21r2
repo sync (wait.. a long time, it's like 2.5gb)
than make

big thanks for the info...but i need a little bit more....what editor you use for android xml....

can you post your apk...i only have found your eclair buld and if i copy out the dialpad xml it do not work also if i make a androidupdate from the contacts.apk...because of eclair i think
mmhhhh...hope you can help me
edit: also i tried to exclude it from a old *.sqsh system but i can not find a way to extract...
Thanks Alex
As I said this is building from the source. You cannot edit an xml that's already been compiled.
My contacts.apk is in my download for my build, just open the androidinstall.tar file and pull it out.

Place all of the files into a directory including the windows apktool.bat file.
=== To decompile/decode an apk ===
1) place apk in this dir
2) open cmd
3) run apktool.bat d Contacts.apk ./out
4) an out directory will be created
=== To compile/build an apk ===
1) apktool.bat b -f -d out
2) the apk file will be placed into /out/dist/out.apk the translated source will also be in /out/build
You then must sign the apk.
Use AutoSign or RightClick Sign.
With all of this said. I think there may be an issue with the workflow or decode/build process. Please give it a try yourself and see if you get different results. I would love for this to work.
Please read my experience here starting at post 247.

(This is not a flashable .zip you have to push it through adb or use root explorer for now)
heres a wallpaper to go with it :
Enjoy!
Pffft !
I might have to re-jig that to QVGA
yea cool if u gimme your res i can do it or you do it either way i dont mind
gotta have it. what phone/s is/are it for?
Wanna port it to the G1?!
Yea sure guys. I'll do some research and find out what the res is for all other phones and post them up today. Its designed on a htc desire so will also work perfect on a nexus.
Droped a HVGA one in there just tryna find out what the res is for the rest.
QVGA up too.
I flashed this on my G1 running SuperBad and it didn't work. It said it didn't have the right signatures.

It's not a flashable .zip It's just the bootanimation.zip
I dont know how to make a flashable .zip I just push it through adb :
(in recovery)
adb shell mount /system
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource/
adb reboot
Im on android 2.2 The file system might be different on other versions of android so it may not work. Check first.
I also got it working on my samsung spica (android 2.1) by putting the file on my sd card. using root explorer, mount r/w then copy the file and paste it to system/media overwriting the bootanimation.zip thats already there.
wow that makes a lot more sense, i don't know why i assumed i could just flash it
Could you please post a mirror for the QVGA version? Link is not working. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for this mate, I had also been looking to re-etch my the htc letters to thc on the back of my nexus. But it'd be hard not to **** that up, knowing my luck

It's time to show off your bootanimation to your friends and make them jealous of your android phone. May be it's just me; I haven't seen any horizontal bootanimation so far. Why should we have a small animation and ignore the rest of the screen?!
No matter what size screen you have, the NeoGlass bootanimation can fit it perfectly and it doesn't lose quality. I have highly optimized the images and made the animation as smooth as possible. I hope you guys experience the same thing.

Note: There are so many phones out there so I can't put a link for each one. But, you can download the bootanimation.zip file and the desc.txt file. For most of you guys the animation should work without any issues. If you feel different size would be better do this:
(Skip this part if you like the size of the bootanimation)
-Open attached desc.txt file and just modify the the resolution values based on your device screen size (Nexus one values are 480x800 (width x height). For example, if your resolution values are 300x700, your txt file should look like this in the first line:
300 700 24
-Save the file. Use winrar, 7zip, bettezip, etc to open your bootanimation in archive form (do not extract it) and drag the modified txt file and update the zip files. DONE! You optimized the file for your device.

what Operating sys are you using? What zip program do have?
Two reasons didn't work out for you. Your zip program didn't update correctly and you compressed the file. You should store the zip file (Zero compression). Otherwise you get blank screen.
Second reason: You file was not replaced, backup ur original animation and delete it. Wipe cache and dalvik and then push or flash the new one.

No matter what size screen you have, the Big Bang bootanimation can fit it perfectly and it doesn't lose quality. I have highly optimized the images and made the animation as smooth as possible. I hope you guys experience the same thing.
There is no audio for bootanimation. I just added audio to youtube to make it pleasant. Watch in HD and see the big bang
Leave me a comment if you want the same animation on CM7, Android in general, Nook,...

Very high quality
Would there be anyway you could do the cm7 one as "big bang"?

Thank! I'm glad you like it. The only reason I made bootanimation was to inspire ppl and show them some tricks to make it themselves

it's a bug in theme manager, I have the same issue sometimes when I apply anything. Miui Gingerbread is kind of buggy.
You can try this: Go to sdcard/Miui/theme folder, choose a working theme (make a backup of it somewhere else on you device or computer first) extract the mtz file you downloaded (winrar, betterzip...) and find bootanimation.zip in "boots" folder.
Now open your working theme file you backed up. Open it in archive form and drag my bootanimatio.zip to boots folder and update. Once ready, import it with theme manager (you should see the theme name twice since you installed it before so try both to see which one is the new one ).
Hope this helps

imo probably one of the best ROM's created for our android devices!
Just put this on my G2. Love it.
I think that the shining part of this boot animation would look cool with this pic.
A CM7 one would be great too
Great Great job, best miui bootanim seen so far.
This is cool
