Bootanimation question - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I watched a video on youtube where a guy had a scene from the Iron Man movie as his boot screen on the nexus one. So, I decided to make me a animated boot screen. My question is can I make a .wmv my bootanimation, and if so then how. I've seen the bootanimations posted on this site, I just want something unique. I've had custom boot screens on both of my G1's and customized my recovery image, so I know how to do it for the G1, but I want to put my movie clip on my nexus as the bootanimation. Please some real advise, no theories.

Search. There is PLENTY of information here about how to do it and what needs to be done.

Obviously I'm not finding it, and obviously you don't know. I did'nt just join this forum. This the first time I ever asked for help, for some smuck to tell me search, who could've at least posted a link to the thread. I should've put no comments from smartasses either.

bootanimation.zip contains a sequence of PNG files. No .WMV or anything else.
Found in /system/media, or sometimes in /data/media.

Along the same lines.
I'm sure Google will help you with the missing bits.

Thanks a bunch though, but I already been to both places, before I posted thread, I was trying to avoid creating a bunch of png's, very time consuming, and figured I'd simplify the process. What I should've asked was can I convert wmv file into a series of png files, and if so what tool do I need. Dude had a cut from Iron Man, so I know it can be done, I just need somebody who's done it to view this thread.

Use some type of video editing program to split it into separate png files.

You could use a video editing program to export the WMV clip you have into a sequence of PNGs.
Try VirtualDub. It's free.

How to change AT&T startup pic & sound

Sorry if this has been posted before. I was fumbling through the registry and found references to the following files...
\Windows\3G_Up.wav
\Windows\3G Up_01_1.gif
First one is the sound, the second one is the animated AT&T logo.
Someone replace them and see what happens.
The registry entries are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation

Well, why don't YOU replace them and see what happens??????
Why should some else be the "responsible" one? You be responsible for what happens! Not that anything will happen, but don't ask someone else to TEST your "findings".

Because I don't feel like it. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. Have a drink and relax, Jesus.
You don't FEEL like it? If you are already there, found the files, what else is there to FEEL about doing it??? It sounds like you want someone else to TRY it for you and see if it works or dosen't work.
Have a drink and relax? How about you grow a set of balls and try editing your own registry FIRST instead of saying
"Someone replace them and see what happens"

Now you're talkin about my balls. Fabulous.
I have no suitable animated gif or sound I wish to use at the moment.
Others are welcome to try.

No, not talking about your balls... but rather the lack OF you having balls.
Anyway, thanks for the "tip".
here is a thread with custom startup pics but not sounds...

Totally shocked by your response
I'll try to be more clear about my good intentions next time I post something. I was searching the registry looking to move all the video and picture folders to the storage card when I happened upon this. It wasn't something I was in any hurry to play with so I figured I'de see if someone else wanted to.
Upon further investigations it seems this was already posted in a Hermes thread. I do remember seeing someone ask how to do this in the Kaiser forum so I thought I would offer it up.
As for my balls, well what can I say, I'm quite happy with them lol.
-James
This was posted before in another thread. I tried it. I replaced my startup animation with the one that is on the kaiser. I also deleted the reference to the 3g .wave file in the registry and left it blank. After soft resetting I now have the HTC logo animation and no annoying 3g sound.

Help with title_bar_shadow.9.png, please

I'm creating a new theme, but I have problems with this file. I followed some "how to" guides, but I still don't get it.
This image should make round corners, but I always get a wrong-stretched image. I have been working on this for some days and I don't get, maybe I'm too stupid, can somebody help me?
PD: of course I used drae9patch and other method, but , no way
just make it 320 pixels in width and you can avoid signing it.
draw9patch is useless without having eclipse set up. eclipse is what allows for the stretching to be maintained. however, like david said, you can just scale the image to that width without having to worry about using the more complicated methods of stretching/compiling a .9 png.
I thought about this too, what, you know, that's the easy way and I wanted the hardest and best way, but I didn't know that eclipse is necessary for this. Now, I know, and until I learn about eclipse, I will use your method.
Thanks to all!. It's nice to have guys like you here

hehe, you're doing what I did with Darkstar I can edit the .9.png for you, but what'd be the fun of that? you've got to edit the .9.png so that it only stretches the area between the black curves. If you've already done that then the problem is how you're using eclipse. It is really tricky to get eclipse set up to work right, but you need to do it eventually if you plan on making themes. Just keep reading through the tutorial and you'll get it eventually ^_^ It took me a long time to figure it out at first too

Of course, I'm using this idea, remember I asked for help by private message, because I think this size fits better with the widgets in your theme, but I didn't get answer, so, I decided to make my own theme and ask for help in a own threat. I was going to give you credit in the future theme's thread for the idea.
My problem was, that I didnt use eclipse, that's why I got crazy. So, until I learn how to use it, I'll use a 320px png.
Thanks
if you use 320px width then in landscape mode it'll looks bad..

when it is an image like that without much detail it will look fine, i know because i did something similar to what the OP was wanting to do. if you do it with an image that had a lot of small detail then it will look odd in landscape.
What Barina said has sense, but I tried and, as David said, it still look fine.
So it works, thanks, again
You can see the results here, later I'll post a screen of landscape too

[STICKY][ANIMATIONS]Custom Bootanimations Gtablet

Hi guys i looked at the forums and noticed not alot of custom boot animations going on.Anyways for all you Alienware lovers out there i've got 2 i've been messing around with to make work smooth. These are from the Aurura (my baby) screensaver so if you want to use then or if you have any idea's for different ones hit me up.I'll be posting them as soon as i'm sure they are done.
edit- Ok first one is done, Speed could very based on rom.
Link- http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C3AI4508
YouTube link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mJMRhX12zU <<not mine>>
Sorry if i'm breaking a site rule by posting a link please remove if i am, and guide me on how to share.
edit- Ok got the second done.Had to shorten it a bit and it decided to loop at the end...Left it because it looks cool.

Instruction simply save this Bootanimation.zip to sdcard open root explorer and past it in /system/media (backup yours if you want) also if nothing is there check /data/local Android checks there first, Good luck and i hope you enjoy please post a video so others can see. I'll have the other up soon.
As of now i will no longer be continuing this, as i'm going to be leaveing XDA for some personal reasons ty all for your replies and i will be leaving this download up.As of now there are many other guides to making Bootanimations so Good luck all

This should really be in the General section. Thank you for your contribution though!
if we can get an admin to move it that's no problem...the second bootanimation is turning out to be a pain lol.I'll get it
I'll give it a whirl.
EDIT: I like the second one best, the darker one. I just wish that the loop would've been the alien's head. Also, I think it looks crisper that the first one.
I enjoy both, but would prefer either to be without the Alienware text. Good god though.
As of 3-22
Download links still are only giving me 25k files when I try to dl. Videos look awesome and would love to get your boot animation into my Gtab.
Also is this sticky for posting other boot animations as well?
I still have the second one running so I shot a quick video. (New phone I need mmm.)

Thanks man! These are great.
Maybe post a guide on how to make one so others can contribute?
I will have to sit back and work on the Guide.. Personally i'm not the best at spelling or writing things out in (Guide format) But i'll see what i can write up (TY MS. kicker22004 lol) and i'll definitely be posting it...and if anything someone can find a faster way to do these.Believe me it takes forever on the Gtab i'm having to cut frames down because of the fast boot, on my X i can get 18-20 sec of video+audio <<<another thing i'm trying to figure out.Anyone know if the Xoom or another Tab has boot audio? Ok guys peicing my new Desktop together (Orange juice accident) but i'll be posting a new 2nd video without the loop or text as requested. If you would like the text encluded please send me a PM and i'll see what i can do.Thanks for being pasent with me these do take a bit of time to make. Also taking requests if anyone has any short Videos (quite short say 7-10 sec sometimes longer depending on rom) you would like to see converted over for animations please post and give me a little time don't think i forgot about you.
great i would like to know how to do this also but this is great work using the second on myself
Can anyone please tell me where to get this boot animation?

Wow i'm surprissed to see posts on this agian lol. I've been super busy areound here guys (Moving) I was actually about to remove the thread.
As for making them it's not really that hard.
Take a video for example......Clip off about 12-18 sec
-Reseze the video to 1024x600 (that can vary smaller is faster depending on size but you lose Quality)
-then take that new video and put it in a Avi-jpeg Converter and pull out all the Frames.
-from there you will just put them in a folder (part0)
-and then edit the Desc.txt file to resize to fullscreen and change FPS
-Layout of the Desc.txt should be
1024 600 X<<(X is the FPS faster if it's laggy)
p 1 0 part0
- p <unknown
- 1 <play the video 1 time
- 0 <Delay before moving to Part1 if there is a part 1
- part0 <the folder to Play
you can use any number of programes to do this it's very simple.
Then just zip it all up and if you use winrar remember to set it to STORE or it won't boot the video.
Then just move it to the Dir either /system/media Or /data/local
That's it, Sorry i'm not even close to good at writing Guides guys.
If anyone would like to rewrite this go right ahead and then hopefully we can get this Stuck and get more great animations.
When i get time to work on this agian i'm going to be tring to get boot sound while it's loading the video. Thanks agian guys and good luck making some Please post them in this thread so we don't have a million different threads

There are some pretty cool boot animations in this section but they are buried. I wish I knew who the moderator of this specific forum was because I know there is a post with at least 10 boot animations in it that should have been stuckyed. Ones like the Droid red eye and the dancing android. You can find them with a deep search.... maybe I will take the time this weekend to link the posts to the current sticky.
i'd like to know how to make them as well. thanks!
I am kinda confused as to where to put the new boot animation.zip as i dont see any on there now in data/local or system/media?
Ok well it looks like you have to put in the logodata file as well as system/media and the data/local file for it to work

Can you elaborate on this? I have been trying to add a Boot Animation to VEGAn 5.
I downloaded the custom one for Ginger Edition and edited it to make it shorter (so it only flashes up Vegan) but when I save it all as the zip and place it in system/media and reboot, no boot animation shows. Just a black screen.
The tablet still boots, but neither the original Vegan boot nor the custom one shows.
Anyone ideas???

[Boot animation] bleach anime fighting scene

Hey guys, this is my first boot animation I made using some GIF files and make a decompressed zip file. Its a scene from the show bleach on cartoon network. This was a request from a trend who likes the show. This was tested on my captivate and my friends DroidX. Must be rooted of course. I will try to make some others with sound but I'm having a little trouble/ never did it before. Hope you enjoy. Please make a back up of your current bootanimation.zip or a nandroid back up. Let me know what you think. Thanks
Hers the link you can download from dropbox.

please let me know whatyou guys think. Place HTTP before DB.ty since I'm not at my computer to upload file and I can't post outside links since this is my first post. Good luck and thanks
Forgot to mention path is /system/media/ I'm not responsible for you messing up your phone. Please back up back up back up. If you have any requests for boot animation videos. Let me know as well. Cheers
