Just received my Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. It's being charged up right now. I'll let everyone know hows the sound quality tonight.

Sound: Great Clarity and rich Bass( Sounds like your in a car thats equipped with Sound System)
Range: Since it is Bluetooth Version 2.0 , it has better range than any other bluetooth headset Version 1.2. ( My previous Stereo Bluetooth by LG HBS-110 was V1.2. While listening to music, it got cut off when i went into another room, and came back on when it was in line of sight.) On the Sony Ericsson, it was cutting off a little bit but not completely off, and can go farther than like the LG)
so far thats with the Music portion. Still have to play around with it more to see whats great about it.

teh DS970 works great. I got voice control working, Music plays sharp (almost as good as my bose headphones, and i got great range and the earbuds are great.! My only problems is i cant get the LCD display to show caller ID. This is important and i would like it to show the name of the person calling, or at least there phone ##. Is there a program i can download for this? or what do i have to do for this to work. (BTW Voice command works greaT!S

Did you get VC working with confirmations? No one else seems to have accomlished this. If you did , what is the trick?

I think Sony DR-BT Serie is better. Its more a Headset for Bluetooth MP3 Player. They have better DA-Converter inside. I use in the moment ... DR-BT50.

i've been using the Sony DR-BT10CX for the past few months and am very pleased with the sound quality i am receiving. i am having two major problems that i do not know how to fix:
1. every time i go to connect the headset to the phone, i have to go into the bluetooth settings, uncheck the boxes a) wireless stereo and b) headset, then save those changes. then i have to go back into the settings and re-check the boxes and save. - this is a nightmare of an issue, when the headset should simply connect automatically when turned on.
2. making calls is fine, but when a call is received it does not answer through the headset, but through the phone. pointless if you are driving for example...
if anyone knows how i can fix this, i'd love to hear a solution...

MBR-100 Sony/Ericson stereo receiver
I'm using the MBR-100 Sony/Ericson stereo receiver to stream music to me car stereo via 3.5mm input cable and to me earbuds when I am riding on my motorcycle. It connects quickly, sounds good and lasts about a week between charges. I only commute about an hour a day. I got it for $80 at Fry Electronics. I have seen a few of them ob ebay as well.

HT820 + Telus P3050 Touch
I have the Motorola HT820 on a Telus Touch P3050 Vogue and it is very good. I am pleased with my choice.

Sadly I must say stay away from the BlueAnt X5's...horrid sound quality. It seems that the sony's have good sound quality, at least as good as a wired buds that are included. The X5's are much worse. Less spatial seperation, more "muddy" sound, just not good.

Everything I've heard and read about the Jawbone BT headset says that it's a very high quality unit, with excellent noise reduction/cancellation properties. I'll be getting one when I save up some pennies. (10,000 pennies to go!)

i'm using the BlueAnt Z9 with the new 3.4 firmware update and, for me, it's loud and clear with the Vogue. i actually have to turn it down...i have not had any complaints from others when using the headset. when i purchased the Z9 it had the 3.0 firmware and the volume was very acceptable to me. also, the 3.0 firmware allowed you to control the volume with the phone. with the 3.4 firmware, all volume is controlled by the headset.

I have the black jawbone best bluetooth I have used thus far and I have tested quite a few. connects flawlesly and quickly as soon as you turn it on and the noise cancelation that the jawbone is famous for actualy works

I have an old wep150 (samsung) I got it for another phone about a year and a half ago. Its sounds worse on the vogue than it did on my motorola phones. I hope to get a nice stero headset for listening to music and calls. I'm glad to hear the sound quality is good for these devices.

I use the Jabra BT 5020 works awesome on my sprint (cdma) touch. Long life too.. I have always like the jabra products. You can also pair it with multiple devices. it has vibrate.

Just got the SE HBH-DS970 and it works pretty well. the call display only shows the number not the name unfortunetly. And My music tracks don't seem to show up on the screen. Any one else experience this?

I just got the new MOTOPURE H12 the other day and really like it. I got rid of the Jabra BT8010 because I felt like I had to yell into it. This new H12 is pricey at $129.00 but worth it because I am in the car alot. This thing is very small and very light. Has anybody got a bluetooth to work with Voice Command??! The closest I've gotten has been with the Blue Ant Z9, I manage a RadioShack, and we just started carrying that unit. It is small, lightweight, comfortable, and very good volume. Better than almost any Motorola bluetooth re: volume. The plantronics are good volume as well, but a bit bulkier. But the Blue Ant actually recognizes Voice Command! The problem, like most, is it doesn't recognize the confirmation.
Very Frustrating!
Anyone found a fix? I've tried some that profess to be the "true fix" but no luck.

Here are some details:
It has a hi res OLED screen that is white text on black background so it's easy to view in daylight and at night. It's not too bright at night, but it doesn't have a setting to change the brightness. It shows the current FM station by default and it will display the phone number when some one is calling. You can download your phone book to it as well, but I haven't figured how to download it from my XV6800 yet.
There are two buttons and a scroll wheel. The button on the top left is for changing FM stations. The one on the right is for the configuration menu: phone device type, pairing, paring reset, and FM on/off. Then scroll wheel works well for navigating through the menus. The wheel responds to the speed you turn it and it has a similar feel to the scroll wheel on the phone. There are also four buttons on the face surrounding the display and scroll wheel: Select Phone, Select Tunes, Answer/Play/Pause, and Hang-up/Stop.
The Bluetooth A2DP stereo over FM is killer! This is the main reason I bought this thing. The only drawback is finding a good FM station to transmit on, but you have the full FM spectrum to chose from. Overall, it works well and the sound quality is great. Also, no cables - hooray!
It has two (in & out) 3.5mm stereo jacks on the left side, and standard USB jack on the right side for charging 5v devices. I think this is a nice bonus if you want to hook up your other MP3 player...
The hands-free works very well. It will play a chime over the speakers and beep from the device to let you know a call is coming in. It will pause you music if the player supports it. The sound through the speakers is full sounding and not "tin can" sounding. The mic sound good on the other end of the call, and the noise canceling actually works - at least with my windows cracked @ 75mph.
I hope this helps someone who's in the market for one of these devices.

for the touch it does not sync up the phone book so it will probably not sync the titan's either.
Damn, the radio i have is the only year they did not put RDS on their units. BAH.
Other than that it looks pretty cool.

I have a Moto Rokr T5 on the way from Newegg. It looks like it has the same functions minus the audio in and out jacks. It was about $80.

I ordered one of these T505s as well. Will report back but the reviews basically sound positive and it appears it should work as expected.

Mine came today. I haven't used it much yet but so far it seems really nice.
No trouble pairing with the Mogul. The audio streaming sounds really good.

So far the music playback is great. The FM transmitter is very powerful! It plays over the top of other stations with ease.
The channel selection is neat. Push the FM button and a nice british lady tells you which station to tune in. If the current station goes bad (hasn't happened yet) push the button again for a new station.
Sound quality over FM is pretty good as far as I can tell. I have a stock Toyota Tacoma 04 sound system and ears that have been exposed to a lot of loud noise, so take that for what it's worth.
If you take the phone out of range, when you get back in the car just tap the phone key to restore the connection.
Call quality seems fine. I've made a couple of calls today (while parked) and nobody complained so far.
I'm going to try leaving myself a couple messeges tomorrow and see how road noise factors in.
Audio controlls work with HTC Audio Manager and Windows Media but not TCPMP although the sound comes through fine.

Echo the same results here. I love it. Very slick device. Now all I need to do is get the $2.99 upgrade to Sirius premium streaming since 32K sounds like crap on the car now...

Nice, but I'd really rather opt for the T605 and just do a clean install myself. I can't stand the thought of streaming my music via A2DP and it having my music quality capped at FM Quality.

I'm sure the 605 is a sexier solution but the sound from the 505 is pretty good. It's nice to be able to move it from car to car and the radio in the shop.
I'm really happy with this gadget so far.

Advice. Best way to get music to the car?

I'm just curious what would be the best way to get all of the new music on my Captivate onto my car speakers when driving. I have built in bluetooth in the car and would love if there is a way to use a software solution to stream the music. If that's not possible I'm a bit lost on what the preferred method would be. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

If your BT stereo supports A2DP, then just stream from the Cappy to the radio. I do that and it sounds great. I also have a 3.5mm jack on the front, but that is an analog signal and the difference in sound quality, while slight, is noticeable. My car radio links automatically with my phone when I get in (so long as BT is enabled on the phone) and both hands-free and BT audio profiles are connected. All I have to do is start the music player on the phone and the radio switches input automatically. It also switches to phone profile and pauses the music player when a call comes in.

I'll have to check the link in a minute and I'll have to research about my BT connection supporting A2DP as well, but I appreciate the options. Hopefully one will work.
I'm really hoping the A2DP option works, that would be ideal for me, but it is a VW factory BT option that's on the car, so I'm not sure how sophisticated it is.
I'll try to remember to get back here with a post, in the event someone in the future stumbles on this thread looking for the same advice.

I have a Captivate running a custom ROM with a custom Kernel.
There had been some grumblings about the speaker port not working correctly for quite a while, but I think they have now resolved it.
I wasn't sure if this was going to be an issue, so I was hoping for something along the lines of a BT connection solution.
Unfortunately, I just read the following piece of garbage info from a different site:
Audio streaming is NOT Supported on 2010 Passat, EOS, Tiguan, CC, Jetta TDI sedan or Touareg
Looks like Aux. cable for me.

Man, that's too bad. You'd think a 2010 vehicle would be up to date with the tech. I know some older cars were hands-free profile only because A2DP was not widespread, but a 2010 not having it is just silly. My radio is an aftermarket Sony I bought in 2009 and it not only supports music streamin via BT and has a 3.5mm AUX input, it has a USB port that I can put a thumbdrive with music in and a port in the back for an iPod (if I was stupid enough to own one and pay for the optional cable) and it also has HD radio. VW is usually further forward than most imports. Oh well, at least you can do the cable thing. Get a quality one, some cheapies are known to short contacts and cause problems.

I use a AUX input in my car and it works pretty well. The only complaint I really have is the sound is at a lot lower volume than radio and mini-usb port.

Not to point out the obvious, but you do realize that the AUX port is multi-volumed.....right?
You turn up the volume on your handset AND you turn up the volume on your car stereo.
From what I've read, it appears you should turn your "media volume" up to 50-80% and leave it there, then use your car stereo volume button to alter the overall volume.
If it's still not loud enough from there, either you have a short or something is up with your output.
Your ears should be bleeding.

Yea, I turn the volume up all the way on my phone whenever I plug it in. It was the same way when I used my iPod Touch.

Bluetooth Receiver for Headphones/Stereo

Curious if anyone has tried one of these or something like it.

It is a Bluetooth receiver which allows you to plug into it, a stereo or in my case a pair of nice existing (non-bluetooth) headphones.
I've had bluetooth headphones before, but they were expensive and not all that comfortable. I am not a fan of ear plug type headphones and much prefer a good, well fitting headphone.
I already have a good set at work, were I can completely drown out the noises in the office and concentrate on coding. With the N7 having Bluetooth (the Kindle Fire didn't), this becomes an option for me instead of using my phone.
Note that the picture is a little deceiving since it doesn't have an internal battery and the cable for power which is NOT shown is actually needed.

The Mw600 is great because you can use any set of wired headphones in it to create a bluetooth experience! And the MW600 doubles as a FM receiver. The clip on unit is a bit touchy because it uses touch tech to control the volume, but the play and media controls have dedicated buttons which works.
And dependant on your device you connect it to, you can also see track info on the clip. I use it on my Sensation and it works. The track info didn't work on my old Nexus One but I lived without it.

HBH-IS800 is too pricey, in that category I'd go with an Sony Smart Wireless Pro, also from Sony, but with integrated FM and MP3 Player (you can insert a msdhc card).
But my point was that the MW600 is about ~20 Bucks more and has all the advantaged a real headset brings. Controls (Play/Pause/Track Control/Volume), a Microphone, a Display that shows you caller ID and Playing Track, ..

Picked these up for $20 on Newegg the other day and work great despite having a huge head

Could I put my bog-standard wired headphones into these? The image examples show it being connected externally to a speaker, so I don't know if it has a headphone jack on the receiver.
Would be good if it does, would like to avoid plugging my headphones into the Nexus 7 directly because moving my finger around the screen makes a buzzing noise (interference in the 3.5mm jack from the screen I guess), bluetooth could probably eliminate this.

Love, Love, Love my MW600, it's worth every penny! I use it at work, at home and when I go on walks or hikes.

If you are referring to the SE MW600 then yes! You can put any standard 3.5mm headphones into the MW600. I use my Shure se215's and they are great!
Funny thing is I have the Amaze beats headphones and the Sol Republic Tracks HD, both have controls on the wires. And I plugged both of them in. While the music came through, neither of the headphone's buttons work. The Amaze headphones do not control the volume or anything and neither do the SOL Republic cans-which I kind of knew anyway because they are for "i" devices.
HOWEVER, using the MW600 I can use the bluetooth unit to stop/pause and volume control on it and it doesn't matter what headphones you plug in. Major win there again by the MW600!! :highfive:

Was actually talking about the Belkin receiver, but scratch that, the MW600 makes more sense! The fact it's portable and doesn't need mains power is a bonus too. Will be ordering that, thanks!
edit: I assume it outputs through bluetooth sound from games, video players, etc., and not just music, right?

Just to report back. The answer is YES, bt streaming is for games and movies as well, in the MW600 case anyways .

I have also successfully paired the MW600 with my PS Vita, just as an FYI.

FYI - MW600 will not play while charging, if that matters to you...I have the Creative WP-450 which can play while charging...

I love these, call and music control and comfortable to wear. I usually tether them to my nexus 7 and gnexus to receive calls and listen to music at the same time.

Also, a wireless receiver like the airport express works great . Especially if you are networked. I have an airport express attached to 3 home receivers . 2 with optical and one aux. I can stream to all of them synchronized and even use my computer to control each separately and use the nexus as a remote. Only issue with Bluetooth is you need to be fairly close or in line of sight to make it work reliably.

Got my MW600 today, quite impressed with it, and no buzzing from screen now! Only downside is the audio in MX Player is out of sync by a second, the lip-synch doesn't match with the video, is this easily fixed?

Did you try playing with the different settings? Like software acceleration or HW acceleration?
I honestly haven't watched the transformers movie with dialog to see if the vids and audio synch. I'll have to report back on Monday.

Just tried the Transformers movie, lip-synch is spot on. Guess it's just an isolated issue with MX Player, was worried for a moment it could have been because of wireless latency.
Only got S/W decoding available, probably because I'm playing an SD video? Going to try some alternative players.

Much cheaper than the Sony, much smaller, and streams for 10-12 hours per charge. The only drawback is that it doesn't have built-in FM radio. However I gladly trade that for the miniature size and weight (about the size of a quarter, and the weight of 2-3 quarters) ... Clip slides over the seem at the bottom of a tshirt and is plenty to hold it's tiny weight in place. Can hook it anywhere.

Finally decided to ditch the iPod and use my Note II for all my music, podcasts, etc. I hate plugging/unplugging my phone every time I get in the car, I always left my iPod just plugged in and connected. My '07 Mazda 5 is old and cheap enough it doesn't have bluetooth. I looked all over for something that will basically take my Bluetooth A2DP stream and plug it into my AUX input of my stereo. I didn't feel like investing the time and money to replace the stereo in my car. After doing a lot of looking I picked up one of these, a GOgroove FlexSMART X2 Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter. I picked this particular unit because it has both Aux in and out for me to connected it directly to my stereo via the AUX input.

I'm not surprised I liked the unit, the unit pairs fast, works great, does exactly what I want it too and all of the reviews were extremly positive. What I am surprised at is the FM modulator works better than the AUX input into my car. Volume level is better with the FM modulator, there is a slight bit of ground loop noise with the Aux input while the FM modulator is completely clear with better sound. I am stunned how well the FM modulator works because I've had nothing but negative things to say about FM modulators in the past. It has a feature where you hold down a button and it scans all of the channels and tunes itself to the clearest channel. That feature works awesome. I have a ~45 mile one way drive to work, and it was crystal clear the whole way.

great for no Bluetooth cars
One day I noticed a friend was streaming audio and using waze (gps) at the same time in his older car with no bluetooth. At the time I was researching options like a Parrot or an integrated in car upgrade kit and found one of these to be much more affordable. They have another model the SMARTmini which I think is newer but has a shorter arm so depending where your cig lighter is this may make a difference on what model to purchase. Grabbed one last year for an older SUV with no bluetooth and works really well. Happy to see this posted!

I have a JVC stereo in my smart fortwo. Great one and cheap. It has bluetooth for streaming and talking with it's microphone. Plus usb, plus aux. All in one.

This is what I use. Plugs into the lighter and is able to charge your phone at the same time. My Rogue has an AUX input so I plug the other end in and it auto-connects when I turn on the car.
Works great

I want to buy the HTC stereoclip, it uses a lossless APT-X codec, which if your device happens to support it (The NII does!) you get losslesss audio over bluetooth! Pricey, and requires being plugged in all the time when the battery dies, but I still want it!

Hello and thanks for this, does this take my cell phone A2DB intake and give line out to my auxiliary in? I do not want to use the FM function because it usually does not work well in my over populated area.

My moto s705 soundpilot bt uses regular 3.5mm earbuds, so I got a cable from radio shack with male ends, plug from the bt to the aux input, streaming music, PLUS I can clip the bt on the visor and talk on the phone through the car stereo.

I wanted one of those to but I got what the op has for two years. Its ok but not good for voice.

I use a Belkin B46 hockey puck with inverter for power which use aux jack all hidden in the arm rest. Set it up to auto connect and kick off pandoea when conndcted. This way I get in my car and music starts playing. Cant stand the quality over FM.

Works very well with all devices, good choice for cars without AUX input. it streams music and handle calls all in one =], I love it!

I've never had good luck with these FM transmitters. For around $70 you can just replace your receiver with a Bluetooth enabled one.
