Since you guys have the international phone (identical to other SGSs except USA) you guys can flash your phone as Euro firmwares, right?
All USA phones is different from the international model.
For instance, Samsung Captivate (ATT) has 4 keys (capacitive) instead of 3 keys (1 hard 2 capacitive). No FFC.
So.. it'll be harder for us to flash our phone to the custom ROMs
It takes time...the Euro version came out around a month or two.
The US version isn't even available yet.

That's not an official site, in case you seriously hadn't noticed.
okay does this mean custom rom for US AT&T Captivate will not be available until another month or so... this is a deal breaker. SGS is coming out next week. Mang if no custom rom i don't know if i get it.
This SUCKS.
@sl8125: there never are custom roms for a device that hasn't been released yet. The denbigh galaxy s variants that are coming to the us are going to have different hardware from each other and it will take at least a couple of weeks after general availability for the devices to get custom roms. Actually those galaxy s derivatives will probably be able to take advantage of the work that had been done on the galaxy s but nobody can say for sure since nobody has any pdt the for devices that are going under the galaxy s flag in the us.

I'm planning on buying either Galaxy S or Nexus S, the only thing that's stopping me from buying Galaxy S is that I dont know if android 2.3 is availible on Galaxy S or not, please tell me if it's possible to have android 2.3 on Galaxy S. Also I want to know if any of you are having problems with the phone and how it is, post your feedback of the phone here.
Well you can start reading some of the treads and you will get all answers you want.

Kiyori could be please specify your source.........the upgrade still seems a little hazy.
Further, I read that the galaxy s has been discontinued in india..............so why is this confusion still existing in your mind. You might not find the phone in the market.
And to your bad luck, neither is the Nexus S seeming to launch in India immediately. Google isn't a company which keeps india in its priority list...........so we could not see the nexus S launch in next 4-6 months for sure. Maybe we might see the romoured Galaxy S2 before that if samsung goes in for one more 100+ countries simultaneously launch as it did for the Galaxy S. ;-)

I enquired from the sales department of samsung, I dont know how much of this is true, but they said that there is a shortage of Super Amoled screens so they had to stop supply of Galaxy S in India, it should be back by january end, and apparently the Nexus S is to be launched by feburary mid.
We already have buttons ...Does this mean ICS roms will have four buttons ?
Maybe next time in Q & A section ?
Obviously there will be an option to hide the onscreen buttons.
Well lets think about all this when it is actually released. And I am pretty sure that Samsung and google have through about these things.
hit thankxx if i helped. sent from my mind through telepathy (ya its possible)!

If it's software button, there'll be a way to hide it, customize it or even destroy your phone using it.

Way not? Based on what?
Doubt that samsung will release ICS for sgs, we got 2.2 and 2.3, i think thats that for this phone.
Only based on my personal opinion I'm not sure if Samsung has a commercial interest in supporting Sgs 1 when they have the sgs2 now, plus 512mb is maybe too small for ICS ? Yeah I know Nexus S will have it, but without Touch Wizz... I hope I'm wrong .

It will be on S1 as long as will be developers for roms & themes.
I wouldn't count on seeing ICS on the i9000.

Don't break my heart lol
I have a feeling that it won't come out for the I9000, too.
It will be released for the Nexus S which is quite similar to the I9000 but they won't release it for us.
No doubt we'll see people raging on samsung for not coming out with ICS for I9000, while ignoring that it's unlikely any phone from mid-2010 will get it.
How many raging "never again samsung"s did we see over 2.3, with many pretending HTC is so much better when SGS actually got it before Desire that came out about the same time. Grass is always greener...

I agree with you, but its just stupid that one year old phone is already abandonware, competition (khm Apple) suports their phones atleast two years with major updates, while we get 500 euros (not subsidized) old bricks after one year.

I'd happy to take your bricks, after 1 year.
To be fair, the phone first release in June 2010, and now over one year later, Samsung still update the phone (JVT just leaked ?), and even if they doesn't support, you can still install many custom ROM or AOSP ROM

Sorry, how can you say that? Your phone doesn't suddenly stop working just because you don't get the latest update of Android. I still have an old Ericsson T68 which hasn't had an update in years but still works
I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that new Android phones will be supported a minimum of 18 months with software upgrades. Although that may not mean anything for our Galaxy S

The Nexus S will most likely have the ICS update. The Galaxy S has similar hardware to the Nexus S, so even if it is not officially released for the Galaxy S, someone will be able to port it.
just wondering could samsung be holding back the ICS for note, propably it would at this time atleast be "leak" ready..
could the only reason be the upcoming state release
I dont think they will release it in the states with the ginger..
and the state release is 19 february..
and then i was wondering if any devs read this, isnt it possible to use the sgs2 drivers to build cm9 for NOTE.. sorry if that is a stupid question just seems to me that they don`t differ that much.. only the screensize of course..
well I think it ain't as simple as you think, for one there's the S-pen that needs to be addressed, hence an extra added treatment for the note.

Let's just wait and hope our version of ICS is wee bit more polished than S2's version.
There are 3 different source codes for At&t Gnotes on Samsung's web. Anybody has an idea why?

My guess is they were waiting on the massive USA market to open up, then they can capitalise on the initial marketing push and community buzz and them a few months after release ICS and give the already buzzing market an extra jolt with a seemingly rapid OS update.

Personally I'm quite willing to use an initial release without S-pen and get that functionality later. That would still provide 95%+ of the functionality. The rest of the hardware is identical to the gs2, so it shouldn't be that difficult.

Not really. The camera module on the note is different than S2. Note has a barometer while the S2 does not.

Why are we complaining about optus when we are on custom roms?
Hopefully its not going to be bogged down by their firetrucking bloat/ 1 star apps like they did with the GB update which I unfortunately had to put up with for a day and a bit

Thats a good feature of ICS, and probably why the android devs decided to build it into ICS
But, laginess IMO creates the impression that the phone is crap
which creates the impression that the hardware is crap
and that HTC is crap
and android is crap
And thats why people buy iphones
Same with low end phones like the OG wildfire which didn't have a GPU
They are compared to the iphone (unfairly) and people class android in general as being crappy
Thats what happens in Melbourne/Australia anyway
/rant finished
And @OP don't cry, we are here for you, at least you don't have to put up with optus and their mediocre network and bloatware

Yup, no update in the land of Aus, makes me sad .
But im on a custom rom so im not complaining..
Does anyone know if its possible to downgrade your HBOOT to acquire S-OFF if you install the update that will be rolled out in August?
I know it is currently possible. But will it be possible with the new update?

I'm a little intrigued as to what's happening with the Virgin AU phones. While they are run on the Optus network and they have an Optus CID (OPTUS002) they are completely unbranded and have none of the Optus software installed and do not have a sim-lock either so theoretically they should get the same 'clean' update as the European WWE release. Virgin haven't said whether any updates will be pushed by themselves so I don't know if these phones will even get an update or whether they will get it at the same time as the branded Optus units. Due to the lack of customisation on Virgin phones, it's a bit ropey having to wait until late August to receive the update (if at all). One can only hope it's because they are ironing out even more bugs for the final release.

I did ask them a few months back when I was speaking to them regarding a billing issue. They said that any updates made for their phones are available from the manufacturers websites. The person I spoke to had no knowledge of the concept of OTA updates and said I should simply check the HTC website on a regular basis.

On T-mobile (EE).
It seems to include the BBC iPlayer Radio fix discussed on the BBC-iPlayer-Radio-app-on-Android-devices blog:
While we wanted to launch the app to all Android users as soon as possible there is currently an issue with some Samsung firmware. This means that some owners of the popular and powerful Galaxy S3 device may not be able to stream our new HLS audio in the short term.
This applies specifically to some Galaxy S3 devices on EE, Vodafone and Three and we expect these networks to roll out a fix in the next month.
