I'm using froyo FR91 and noticed within the last day that my system was slow. I downloaded an app that shows cpu and memory usage and noticed that the total cpu usage is at 99%. The Android System process is between 84% and 90% all the time.....any suggestions? Do I need a bigger swap partition or something?
Oh ya, and it will reboot my nexus one after a while when trying to use the system in this state.
interesting... i took out my SD card and it isn't acting slow... could it be the way the partition is setup?
Have you looked at System Panel or some other program to see exactly what is using CPU?
Ya like I mentioned it just says Android System. I am using Android System Info. I wonder if it is a setting with the sd card because it doesn't seem to happen without a sd card in it.

Is System Panel better than Android System Info, which is another app in the market? I now have both installed, and they seem to do the same thing.

Ah, if they do similar things then okay, I haven't used the other one, I was reading it as you were using something in the Preferences to see what was using CPU there.
Hope you figure it out, I've never seen excessive usage in any program except for a handful of times that something went rogue.
Maybe you should start removing widgets.. Then if that doesn't locate the problem, background apps..

Oh, I'm not actually the guy with the problem, just someone who's been looking for a good program to track CPU usage. I've been using System Panel for a few days and actually prefer the interface to System Info. Thanks for the tip!

Oops, missed you weren't the same, but hey, glad you like System Panel I have zero to do with the app/author but I suggest it to anyone wanting insight into what's going on, it's really great for monitoring to see long-term app behavior (paid version) or a very good whats-going-on-right-now and app killer in the free version.
seems like it was the card. I was using an adata 16gb class6 card. The card seems fine on its own. Tests on it seem ok, but once in a while the card makes the android process take a lot of cpu usage. Not sure why. I will try again on cyanogens version.
Ok its not the card because I tried a different card and it happened again. Anyone else have this issue?
Same issue,
Even swapped out my 16GB class 6 for a 32GB class 2 . Both OEM ( not ebay cards ) and the phone still reboots/ hangs ect whenusing things like animated gifs.
This has happened to me too (system_server stuck at 100%), had to reboot to fix it.
Maybe a froyo bug? Any1 try cyanogen yet?

I find it strange that this App seems to try to open itself upon startup.....even after I have wiped twice switching ROMs. How is it even on there?

Probably stores information somewhere else on the phone than normal. adb shell your phone and look for it manually

Hmm odd.. I wrote that app and I made an activity that starts on startup the normal way... not sure why it would still be there after a wipe... *shrug*
I had a similar issue with another app. No matter how many times I wiped, there it was. I think the Market got "wonky" and was downloading it each time I started up for the first time after a wipe. Almost seemed the market website didn't get notified of the successful download/install and was trying to "finish" the download upon signing back on.
whats the problem? uninstall it if you don't like it. personally, I think its a great application and I use it daily.
What should you keep your settings on with this app, both high and low. Also after applying the numbers do you need to reboot?

Seems like a silly question, but do you use apps on SD card.
One of my favorite features of doing that is that I dont actually have to reinstall after wiping, just redo the simlink

That depends on personal preference. I keep mine at 528/528 'cause I like me some speed
EDIT: forgot the second half of your post, you don't need to reboot after applying.
ive never been able to get open over clocker to do ANYTHING, i put values in the box hit apply and nothing happens... reboot... cpu at same speed.... its like the button just does nothing, tried the standalone app and dudecake.9 with it integrated. it hasnt ever caused me any problems and removing it worked fine for me, it just never did much of anything at all for me
are you using the dude's build? he included the app in his builds until this last build

yes i have
When I wiped my ext partition and had maybe 20 default apps on, the app launcher moved like a beast, instant, basically like the godly iphone UI + a discrete adjuster.
However now I'ved restored my 250ish apps/elements it now lags like a mofo. What I want to know is what physically is being limited hardware wise, and is there any way to boost the performance of this memory? I assume it would be between CPU, RAM and GPU, although I dont understand how it could be annoy of those [sorry for my noobishness]:
CPU: Snapdragon, OCed, not exactly CPU intensive anyway
RAM: Have 250MB free, never seems to get 'full' when i quickly tab to the usage
GPU: This is what I guess, but if so why cant we get around this with a less intensive menu setup? Surely all that is happening is we have 20-25 icons + labels floating up and down on a screen? To be honest id prefer literally just that on an instant screen over the 'oo that looks nice.... oh wait it lags like a *****' we have now.
Any comments would be appreciated
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A
well, one thing which would probably slow down the launcher is the sd card speed... and considering u've got a helluva lot of apps on ur sd card, it seems like a plausable reason...
Is anyone able to confirm that? Surely though its precached the icons and names somewhere though :/

if you use CM rom you can go to spare parts and enable "keep launcher in memory" that usually helps a lot
I have Kang, so has a launcher over CM. The setting was enabled, but i dissabled and renabled to see if that was a problem. Possibly did solve a bit of it, but it still takes at least half a second for the menu to catch up with my finger, even including 'touch lag'. The only way you can see what I mean is if you play with an empty phone, its INSTANT.

You mean the activity/app choice list right? (like when you make a application shortcut, or view installed applications). It does lag when you have a lot of apps. If it does cache the data its definitely short-term, if you try it again after a day its slow the first time.
Lets hope froyo has something to make it faster, systemwide.

I assume the only difference between our phones then is SD card.

Hmmm :/ So its not my SD card. I just dont understand why it physically lags, when I watch people showcasing some new app etc, their menu is perfectly fluid, even with a similar number of apps.

I didnt want to clutter up the AOIP thread any more, so I just came on here to say I tried the ram manager and ram expander. I settled on ram expander. phone is quiet a different machine now.
however I am having issues when getting a screenshot. I get an error saying "couldnt capture screenshot. storage may be in use" thoughts ? i have tried with and without the ram expander active.

hmmm it could be just an issue with AOIP 2.0 or a background app causing the issue. On 1.5 I don't have that issue and never messed with screen capture when I tested 2.0. In AOIP tread i posted a screen capture with ramexpander and LBE running.

Which SD card are your screenshots stored? If it's on the card where the swap file is that is most likely the issue. I do know that the SWAP file stops any ability to transfer files from PC to phone on the SD card in which it is in use. Change the storage location of the screenshots to the other card, bet that fixes it.

Obviously it makes sense when using usb cable as it gets unmounted from android first but android wont unmount if something is already accessing the sdcard. internal or external. its same with any os. however he is just accessing it within andoid it's self when using screen capture.. So which goes back to what i originally said as i can use screen capture on either sdcards with and without swap. Its either a bug with AOIP 2.0 or another app he has is blocking its access.
thanks for the feedback. im thinking its something in AOIP, I just wiped and reflashed AOIP 2.0 with the gapps from the thread, still no recording of the screenshot to either sd card. so im at a loss for now. I might post this back in the AOIP thread...
im still playing around with different settings trying to get the screen capture to work right for me. I do get a screenshot file, its just a blank black picture.
i know there is a way to track or i guess log the activity on the phone....can someone help me out on how to do that?
There's an app called aLogcat or from phone terminal type: logcat > /storage/sdcard1/logcat.txt. If you have adb installed, $: adb shell logcat.
ya hes right. If you you can't figure out after looking over logcat. attach it to a post and I'll see what I can find and do.
this is the file i generated from the logcat. i went through in wordpad and spaced out the commands, so if something looks out of place...sorry.
hope it helps. thanks!

k i just saved it to pc. ill look it over when i get a chance either later today my time or tomorrow for sure
sorry for being later at replying back got swamped with some freelance work. After reviewing logcat it looks like its losing focus due to not finding a qualified user. I may be completely wrong but I think it may be a bug in aoip 2.0. Cam may be better at seeing something I do not as he has a lot more experience at it. Your best bet at this current point is to pm cam to see if he can pin point the exact area and I'm sure i can do the rest as he is a busy family man. Depending on what he says you may have to either a) wait if bug has to be fixed in source code or b) swap roms to either previous aoip or different rom all together and but not least c) try an app that does it and see if it gives the same problem.
cool deal. thanks for looking at it. i will try a third party app and see how that works. and cam, if you happen to see this, i guess take note?
thanks guys!
not a problem.
Just going to report back, using a third party app I am now able to capture screenshots.

Hi all,
I have been using Moto G2 since October 2014 a year ago I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CM 12 and now using CM 13. In the first few days, the performance of the phone is good but as days are passing the performance keeps on slowing down. I'm now using a 32gb sd card also I have moved most of the apps to sd card but still the problem persists.I clean the cache memory from the "Storage and USB" option in settings and have been using Ccleaner for a long time now but I see no improvements what should I do?
Should I switch to any other ROM or is there any app causing the problem?
Or should I revert back to stock ROM?
Problems I'm facing:--
1. Slow loading of settings
2. Apps becoming unresponsive(these were the apps which used to run smoothly).
3. If 5-6 apps are open the home screen takes 10-12 second to load all the shortcut icons.
And there are some other issues.
Pls help me out with this ASAP is anyone else facing the same issue?
Thanks for reading.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Hi! After years of suffering with 1 ghz mono core and 403mbs of RAM here are my tips:
What's causing all this is the low amount of RAM available on the Moto G in comparison to other devices. 1gb is really pushing the limits nowadays. So you'll have to compensate for that. The only way to do that is by making it so that you can't multi-task that well but the app you're on atm runs great.
1. Get Kernel Aduitor, go to Low RAM Killer and set it to aggressive. This should already make it a lot faster.
2. Reduce background activities by disabling unused sync operations. Go to Settings>Accounts and then check them all one by one and disable sync for whatever isn't needed.
3. Get a Custom Kernel. Always a good idea.
If this all doesn't help there is one last option. Go to Developer Options and scroll to the bottom. You will find some options for background activities. Set it so that it doesn't keep anything in memory.
If that doesn't help, then one of your apps is causing issues, start investigating.
Also ,you should remove CCleaner and also any task killing app. They cause issues and slow downs.
Best of luck!
Chris.
ehm, try this....
dismount SDcard, maybe its broken, reflash ROM, with full wipe, data, cache, system.
only flash rom and gapps, and try it without SDcard.

How is everyone doing today?
Ok so I use the Device Care App all the time and recently I noticed that when I click on Memory and it says something like 800MB so i would tap Clear Now. What i noticed that after it is done if I go back and do it again instead it being lower than 800MB its higher, and it takes a few times going back and clearing the memory.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
